IT'S THE SAME OLD STORY BUT YOU NEVER GET IT RIGHT
Oh yes, that sigh was just the thing to ease Adrian's growing concerns. Again he would turn away as if he had no interest in talking to her and in turn the ginger's lips would settle into a frown. Yet when he questioned how she had come to her conclusion, that was when her brows furrowed. He must have thought she was an idiot to be asking that. "How could I not?" The ranger knew that she might not have been the most social human being but if there was one thing that she was, it was observant. So the fact that the (apparent) signs were so obvious in front of her face and she was still asked that was what made her voice go into an aggrieved state.
The answer would nevertheless be indulged. If he really wanted to affirm she was not as retarded as he believed, then so be it. The streets of Jubilife was a good enough place to discuss this anyway right? "Every time I try to touch you, you move away from me like I have the plague. You won't even look me in the eye for longer than a minute ever since I held onto you after leaving the cafe." To emphasis this she brought up the hand that held his mere moments ago, palm facing upwards as if to show him something that didn't actually exist. Curling her fingers into her palm to close it, her voice began to escalate in both volume and unintentional grief that slipped in. "And don't tell me I'm not the only one because I know that's a fucking lie."
Adrien was a playboy. Even when she first met him, he had shamelessly flirted with her after setting her arm on fire. And it wasn't like he was single at the time as she would learn later. So it wasn't a far off guess to assume that behavior hadn't changed; that he would flirt with whoever he came across. Thinking about it alone would prove to anger her further. So what changed? It's not like Adrien cared about her opinions before and she already told him he owed her nothing. Yet somehow everything felt like it had changed between them.
Why?
His comment about her not having fun so far wasn't untrue, Adrian rolling her eyes at the assertion. Honestly how did he expect her to have fun when he was acting like he wanted nothing to do with her? The offer to leave that she had extended was mirrored back and at it the ginger would run an aggravated hand through her amber hair, serving to dishevel any orderly appearance she might have had there. Had this been her months ago when she first made this deal, she would have gladly taken it. Today, it was different and she couldn't figure out why that was but... "If I wanted to leave I would have done so a long time ago you idiot."
So why...
"But you said you'd try so I'm trying too."
Not that it mattered right? Adrian had known from the start that this wasn't a date. That her disposition repulsed other people away from her. She was used to it and expecting this to be any different because of whatever happened at the hospital during his time of need and her (supposed) drug induced state wasn't like her. What did she have to do to get her apathy back? Get hurt again? So fucking be it. "If this is my fault then just tell me right now. I'll leave." But she would pause here, remembering the trouble that she had caused for him. That she had put him through because of her own weakness and failure. How his despondent face made her want to punch him in the face and punch herself for not being able to prevent it.
And she had resolved not to allow him to break away from the waking world... no matter how much he hated her for it.
"I still won't let you ignore me but I can at least give you this one day of freedom from me."

Adrien's brows furrowed in intrigue when she made it seem that the reason was an obvious one and one which apparently flew right past him. Furthermore her tone changed and the words she spoke caused him to blank out for a minute. Touch? This was about him not touching her? Lips parted but not a word escaped his lips, his face blanking out as he stared down at her. His eyes glazed for a moment before he'd blink and scoff. He wasn't able to understand her thought process one bit. "What? I'm not avoiding you. You're the one that hates being touched. You keep getting annoyed and offended every time I try," His voice had raised a bit as well, nary a care given that they were basically arguing on the street. Instances of her scrowling, looking away and tensing up every time he did or was about to flashed past his mind. And what was that sentence - "You're impossible".
"I even extended my hand minutes ago. And you thought I was kidding and sick," He'd refocus on her hand, baffled by what he was doing wrong. He'd step forward, now frustrated as ever as to how to fix such a situation. "What am I doing wrong?" His voice gave in, now reciprocated her own pain as he'd frown. She didn't want to leave. She didn't want him to avoid her gaze. And she definitely didn't want to be void of his touch. Yet she didn't seem like she'd be enjoying herself even if he did adhere to her wishes. And yet, a good part of him was relieved and delighted to know that she didn't dislike him or his company. But he couldn't adhere to what she wanted if she never expressed it.
The grief in her inflection felt like a needle piercing through his chest, the pain stung and he felt terrible that he had overlooked her feelings. Ironically in an attempt to respect her wishes, he had hurt her instead. He could be as accusative as he wanted, but that didn't change the fact that he made her feel terrible. If anything, he was suppose to apologize. "I'm sorry. Adrian, it's not your fault," Softer as he'd look away for a moment. He didn't want her to leave. He wanted to spend time with her and it seemed that intention was reciprocated despite the woman being so very tangled about what she wanted. She was difficult but that was just a part of her he had fallen for. "If you don't tell me what the problem is, I can't fix it." His voice had calmed down, his free hand extended to grasp onto her balled hand. Fingers moved to try to slowly pry her fingers open and interwine his between hers before tugging at it gently, hoping to close that space she had created between them. "Does this fix it? Because I want to." His good eye settled on her properly. He'd smile slightly, his voice solemn and awkward as being honest with himself was difficult.

IT'S THE SAME OLD STORY BUT YOU NEVER GET IT RIGHT
"Because you were acting like you were being forced to handle a garbador you ass!" She screamed in retaliation at the accusation, her voice garnering a handful of spectators to turn in her direction. At the moment Adrian couldn't give less of a damn, as the male's eyes had finally settled on hers longer than a fleeting minute. The meaning of his words would go over her head in the spur of the moment and all she could do was settle for defending herself.
As Adrien had taken a step forward, the ginger took the moment not to concentrate on his movements but deciphering what he meant - what he was thinking. From a general perspective, it sounded like he was blaming her and that his repulsed actions were her fault. That didn't make sense to her initially and the outburst questioning what he was doing wrong would puzzle the ranger further. Was he really trying to be considerate to her? And what was with that tone? Hearing it alone filled her with sensation of remorse that would also lend itself to her voice. "Since when have you cared about what I think!?" Another exclamation as her thoughts flashed to the day he had claimed to be her husband to get into the ER with her and laughing at her when she scolded him for it. Then again in Canalave that he ignored her wishes to stay with his loved ones. And today when he had convinced her to wear a dress despite knowing her utter abhorrence for the garment. "If you really cared then why couldn't you have just asked me!?" He had just done what he wanted without a second thought and there was no other way Adrian could view it. Her final words had her biting her bottom lip afterwards.
Why did it always have to end up like this between them? Even when Adrian had tried to be a decent human being the result was the same. Constant argument and more frustrations. This time around however Adrian was trying to come to terms with more than just her own argument out of - ironically - consideration. Honestly there was no clear cut answer that would come to her in response to Adrien's question. Thinking back on today... maybe it was her fault. But she didn't want to make this about her, that wasn't her intention nor her desire and she wanted to express that.
Yet Adrien would speak first before she would get her chance. An apology to her that knotted her stomach and tugged at her heart. It was another reassurance and she couldn't tell if he was being genuine or if he was only trying to comfort her. He had come up with his own ultimatum for her to tell him what the problem was but again there was no real answer. Only uncertainties that Adrian wouldn't dare utter - the answer that she didn't know herself. Yet even so her lips parted, "I don't..." her words trailed off as her eyes lowered to her fist. This time around at the feeling of Adrien's touch, her already tensed hand would instead settle in his grasp. It would not have been a difficult endeavor afterwards to unfurl her fingers, their hands weaving together almost effortlessly.
The now familiar tug would once again bring the two closer together, though once again Adrian's body would tense from it. It was a defensive impulse that she couldn't exactly help even if she wanted to. However this time, just as her hand had, the woman had dropped her unease as guilt overpowered her embarrassment. For a long time she'd remain there and say nothing as she sought to look him in the eye and keep her gaze as long as possible. Those words would contort her on the inside - overthrow whatever thoughts that had found themselves at the forefront of her mind. How much of what he said meant what she thought? How much hope...
"Is that... another lie?" she'd murmur softly as if to herself than to Arkwright himself. "Because you'd be the only person to think that my company is anything but unpleasant." While the woman wouldn't directly answer the question presented to her, she wouldn't attempt to move away. In face in case Adrien would try to move away she hand taken her other hand and held it over his to hopefully keep him there. Keep him from breaking away and leaving...
Like he always seemed to.
"Sorry... I'm just not used to people touching me with any other intention aside from-" she caught herself mid thought, realizing what she was about to say. That was meant to be an apology for her behavior, the thing he believed meant her disdain. And once upon a time it might have indeed been complete disdain and disgust. Getting caught up in the moment however she was about to show weakness and at that the ginger would bite her tongue. "Nevermind"
It didn't take long afterwards that the woman would begin to hear chatter surrounding the two which wouldn't serve to help matters or really her ego. It was only at this time that a slight flush of pink would rise to her cheeks once again. "Maybe we should... keep walking?"
Post by adrien arkwright on Sept 28, 2016 21:26:47 GMT
Adrien would look away and flinched a bit as she continued to yell, the chatter of the small congregation around them finally catching his attention. It wasn't as if their presence bothered her. Rather, it was the fact that she screamed without a break, the man left with only moments to formulate his words and was about to speak in his defense when she'd yell again. Her words utterly perplexed him. Asked?"But that's what I just..." His lips pulled taut and he'd shut up, trying not to add more fuel to this argument. He'd just shrug his shoulders, unsure how to answer that.
But as the argument went on, the ginger considerably calmed down, such that she didn't retaliate when his hand extended out to hers. In fact she easily took that step forward -- the man's amber iris fixed on her visage. She stared back which had slight discomfort creep onto him, the fact that she was so close yet so far away from him a fact he couldn't get over.
"Mm?" He'd tilt his head as she'd murmur, hardly catching onto her barely audible words. But what he did pick up on and by her following sentence caused him to furrow his brows, realization striking him hard. Despite the cold hard shell Adrian had created about her, from the inside she was just as insecure and sensitive as anyone else. He felt terrible yet that close proximity, her soft murmurs and the warmth just made him smile. And then a chuckle, a thought vocalizing itself without being given much forethought. "Ugh, you're such an idiot, I could ki--" He'd stop himself as his hand ran through his hair, catching himself before he'd ruin everything. "I could never hate you," That smile turned apologetic, her lips so close yet...
Intention aside from...? The words never finished although her suggestion would snap him out of his train of thoughts and brought him back to reality. "Yeah, let's," His grasp tightened as he turned to the street in front of them, moving away from the crowd and into more open spaces. Eyes followed the two as they walked away although he didn't care. That small elation was all he needed regardless of how temporary it was.
A genuine smile crept onto his features, his playfulness recovering with his improved mood. And with that, he'd take every opportunity to enjoy these moments -- just being himself apparently fine with the woman. "Happy this way?" He'd tug her closer, his hand releasing hers and attempting to sling around her neck. "Cause I honestly am," He'd chuckle as they walked.
What were they? They fought on the streets about being touched, about liking the other, about being cared for. He had to remind himself that they weren't anything more than friends. Yet friends that argued and acted like this. It didn't make sense.

The smile had come back, and not that cocky or mischievous one that always meant trouble. This one was like the ones that ginger remembered during her stay at the hospital. It was one that radiated tenderness that Adrian was still in awe that the man was capable of such. The sight of it made the onset of guilt and grief on her shoulders steadily fade. With closeness of Adrien's body in conjunction to her's, it was a stroke of luck that the ginger's defensive instincts appeared to have taken a backseat to her frailty. With his warmth cradling her side a sort of unexpected comfort overcame her, a debilitation that refused to allow her basic movement away from whatever this was.
Why was she allowing someone so close to her? That was the thought that the ginger should have had - that should have crossed her mind. Instead as her eyes traced Adrien's features, making a mental note of what she had saw so close. Even being called an idiot would not cause her to shift away, however the incomplete sentence brought her attention back towards earth. "Hm?" With a curious gaze and a tilt of her head slightly to indicate confusion, the ginger waited to see if he would answer. Normally her brain would have auto filled the sentence like it always had however this time, like all her other cognisant senses would abandon her. That was until there was no longer a need for it.
Huffing a brief laugh behind closed eyes, the ranger's grip on Adrien's hand subtly increased. Could never hate her, huh? "I'll take your word on that," she said somewhat defeatedly. Yet while she said that hints of a smile would threaten her, the corners of her lips struggling to maintain their rigid form. It could have been another lie. She wouldn't have put it past him if that had been the case.... but was it wrong of her to take comfort in that? For only a little while?
It was not long after this that the male Arkwright had taken the lead and led the two off elsewhere, an action that Adrian was grateful for as she opened her eyes and followed along without reservation. The prying gazes of the witnesses to their spontaneous quarrel trailed after them for a short period and as such Adrian had wished she had a hood if only to hide her flushed face. Without one however the woman felt as if she had exposed herself unintentionally, unable to hide behind anything except for her own hair hiding her face and Adrien himself as a shield. A feeling that further contributed to the growing hue on her cheek.
Great.
The small force that drew the ginger in closer would be able to do so effortlessly as for once the woman was mindlessly following the blue haired male, not caring where they ended up. As he proposed his question to her, Adrian glanced upwards towards him as she cocked a brow at it. In doing so, she had not anticipated the loss of that hold that she clung to so dearly. Her eyes would lurch back over to the side as if her empty hand would give her an answer. Needless to say the redhead hardly expected to drape his arm around her instead. "Ah..." a sigh of respite would be ejected, her emerald irises being drawn over to Adrien's baby face once more.
Was she happy? That was the question that was proposed to her. For a time the woman would ponder these words, unable to discern if what she was feeling was truly happiness. Her heart was still heavy, that remained true, however now there was this fluttering effect that surrounded it. She could feel her heart beating faster despite it and she definitely didn't hate this. So what was this feeling? Whatever it was, she had to say something. "I'm not complaining am I?" the ginger would provide thoughtfully.
But why did it matter? It was not her happiness that she wanted. That was not her goal and the return of Adrien's smile had reminded her of why she had wanted to come. "But... if you're really happy then I'm..." what was the right word here? Was it happy? Relieved? No that didn't explain her pounding chest. So- "content." Taking her now free hand, the ginger would bring it up towards his face and lightly pinch his cheek like she had when they had first met. Except this time it was with significantly less force and with a better mood

Her quizzical gaze wasn't entertained, although he did note that she was far more expressive than when they had begun this day. A wry smile surfaced on his lips and remained there as she declared that she'd hold him on his word, the tone that escorted her words ever so adorable. Spending time with her seemed to have granted him the honour of witnessing those new emotions and insecurities of the admirably strong woman. Alas, this moment was a bittersweet one; enjoyable, yet torturous beyond belief. "Sure," Adrien affirmed as they made their way through the streets with a plethora of stores lining each side. The soft sigh which escaped her lips caused the male to eye her from his peripheral view, curious as to how she'd respond to his gesture.
She took her time in garnering her response, not the best of signs yet didn't move away or scowl. And when she finally did answer he'd scoff and cock a brow. Content. She had attributed her satisfaction to his own happiness rather than how she felt. But something about her slow but prominent change of demeanour made him think otherwise. Something she wasn't being honest about, although he couldn't quite badger her about it at the moment. "Haaah, you need to be more honest with yourself y'know?" His lip pulled taut when she pinched his cheek and made no attempt to pull his face away. This was more gentle and painless, well, physically anyway.
But of course, he wouldn't allow her to get one up on him. "And you look more adorable this way~" A grin plastered itself on his expression, holding her closer as he spoke, As they turned around another bend, Adrien's eye would flicker upward from her visage to the line of street food being sold at stalls in the distance. Sunset was still a while to go and so, it didn't hurt to bid a little time. "Want anything?" He'd ask as they neared. Maybe then he could actually ask about herself after this.

Need to be more honest with herself. The thought was rather comical to the ginger as she kept her eyes on Adrien. "That's rich coming from you," she'd reply with a scoff as she released her hold on his cheek. Was she not the one that always spoke her mind and told people how retarded they are? It was not as if she was hiding anything. Yet Adrien himself was full of secrets and the more she thought on the subject as of this moment, she could never figure out what he was thinking. Not that she had ever tried of course. But usually actions come from some sort of logic and maybe she should have actually given learning about him a shot.
Not that doing so would be easy either considering.
Contrasting the grin that Adrien wore, Adrian's lips remained pursed in thought. He was teasing her again yet all she wanted to do was reach out her hand again. The impulse that at any time this moment would go away drew her closer, however not once did she raise a hand to act on her desires. This wasn't about her - it would never be about her. She didn't even know what this feeling was in her chest much less how she felt about this moment between them. But for as long as Adrien was there and wanted this, they could remain. He said he was happy and that was more than enough after all that he had been through.
Of course for all that thought that ran through her mind, the ginger could not risk being thought lesser of. "Don't get used to it." Her defiant streak strung those words through her throat as she'd shift her gaze away momentarily towards their surroundings. The heat from her blush had still yet to fade as the soothing warmth that Adrien was providing her wasn't helping it. She had to cool down, she knew it. She wanted to escape from this burning sensation resting on her face and at her chest, but what could she do?
It was then her eyes had fallen on an ice cream stand right as the question was brought forward. Normally the woman would have never said anything material, and if she had then she would have gotten it herself. Yet her impulsive nature got the best of her, for better or for worse, and the words would play on her tongue before she could stop. "... Ice cream?" She bit her tongue right after, her eyes darting away as her ego trying to salvage what was left of itself by taking over. "Er I mean rest. We've been standing around all day and all."

Mastry's retorts were just her being difficult and defiant as always despite her actions contradicting her words. For the sake of his own sanity, the Galactic admin had convinced himself that she wasn't upset nor was doing this for his sake. Maybe he was lying to himseld in doing so, but at least it stopped him from over thinking the situation. "Mhm..." And so keeping that in mind he'd just smile and keep from talking back. Compromising wasn't his thing, the man usually letting go of matters only because he didn't care enough. But for what he did care and felt strongly about, Adrien was known to be stubborn and a pain in the neck. Alas, trying to counter Adrian on matters that bothered him never ended well and often turned into a battle of who threw the bigger tantrum. And hence to compromise was something he was now getting used to.
Ice cream. His eye flickered downward at the woman with a little astonishment eminent on his visage. It wasn't the exclamation of the kind of treat she'd like, but the fact that she didn't hold back speaking her wanrs this time. Usually Adrian wouldn't be so straightforward and would pprobably dismiss the idea altogether unless she was mayhaps allowed to pay (at least that was what he assumed). This was refreshing. The ginger herself seemed to be taken aback by her answer as she'd suddenly backtrack and opt to rest for a while instead. Like that's going to happen. "Yeah, sure," He'd vaguely acknowledge her request while continuing to walk towards the woman's choice of dessert. "Pick something and we'll go sit somewhere," Adrien spoke casually as he'd finally withdraw his arm from around her shoulder and reach for his wallet.
"And don't make a fuss," He'd quietly murnur as he'd give her a sideward glance, another trivial argument on the streets of Jubilife the last thing they needed.

IT'S THE SAME OLD STORY BUT YOU NEVER GET IT RIGHT
Adrian could almost feel his gaze on her after she had said the words ice cream. So much so that she didn't want to turn back to meet his glance. There was no telling what expression he would have worn if she had. Part of her hoped that she had recovered on time however his dismissive acknowledgement of her so called request told her otherwise as she was led towards the stand in question. In turn the ginger ended up sighing, her shoulders dropping low at her own defeat. The demand to pick something followed to which a frown accompanied with a sideways glance would be sent Adrien's way.
Which would only intensify once the warmth enveloping her shoulders removed themselves. Lips would part to argue, perhaps make a snide remark, however the murmur of a warning would stay her sharp tongue. Pick something he said. Don't make a fuss he instructed. Easy for him to say... then again everything was easy for him to say. Nevertheless she clicked her tongue, shutting her eyes as if recomposing herself, then grumble under her breath. "... Fine." Because honestly what was the point of arguing here? They had just resolved their last one moments ago and this was about getting ice cream of all things. Paying for it would have been nice but she had a sneaking suspicion that moneybags was already reaching for his wallet.
Opening her eyes to evaluate the choices with a glazed over look, not actually caring about what flavor she received. The woman was not particularly picky when it came to food and it was not as if she wanted something sweet either. What mattered was that it was cold so that she could take advantage of the chilled treat to hopefully cool down from whatever had come over her. Thus it would not take her long to gesture towards taking a scoop of vanilla ice cream and calling it a day. The vendor didn't take long to actually hand her the cone to which the ginger would accept as he glanced over to Adrien. "You get something too." She'd demand this while starting back towards him, hoping he would at least oblige her in that respect. Part of her thought about extending her hand back out towards him, her free hand motioning up slightly to do so, but she hesitated midway in case Adrien had grown tired of it. Instead she brought her free hand upwards to tuck a few loose strand of hair behind her ear awkwardly as her eyes fell back to her ice cream.
Post by adrien arkwright on Sept 30, 2016 12:01:35 GMT
His request garnered a sole response, a single 'fine', that carried an irate undertone which didn't go unnoticed. And while he didn't miss it, Adrien was just thankful that she complied in the end. His focus would now shift towards her as she picked a flavour, idly waiting on the side until the woman would exclaim an instruction of her own. From the tone of her voice it was understood as a proper demand which instinct dictated that he heed lest risk ruining what they had managed to savage. "Okay," A quite response. Besides, ice-cream didn't sound too bad, his eye shifted from her to the dozen flavours kept on display. Picking strawberry, the male would catch a certain sight from his peripheral view. A hand tried to extend out to his side only to be withdrawn half way.
"..." A smile surfaced on his lips despite the disappointment that accompanied it. Was she hesitant? Or did that imply something else? A plethora of questions inundated his mind, her behaviour causing his an unexplained delight and worry simultaneously. Either way, he wasn't going to dismiss that gesture. After making his purchase and collecting the cone. Adrien turned to the ginger and gestured to the road ahead of them. "Let's find a bench," The navy-haired male said casually as he walked besides her. For a while the Arkwright male would maintain an adequate distance between them before slowly but surely closing the gap. He'd raise his hand and drape it over her shoulder without any hesitation this time, his actions more casual than before.
Finally taking a bite of his ice-cream, his nose wrinkled immediately and his head recoiled a bit. Too Sweet. A frown enveloped his lips as he'd regret the choice of flavour. He'd end up staring at his cone for a while, certain he didn't want another bite of it. Imaginary gears turned and clicked in his mind as he'd eye the woman. Part of him was hesitant to do this, although his blithe self was certain his next choice of action was harmless. He'd slow down before stopping completely in the middle of the street. "Hey, Adrian," He'd lean his head forward and close to her face before whispering...
"Mind if I do?"
She wouldn't mind, would she? It was just ice-cream after all.

IT'S THE SAME OLD STORY BUT YOU NEVER GET IT RIGHT
Thankfully it seemed as if the two would be able to get away from the scene without much incident, both of them actually listening and heeding the other's instruction for once. Watching the blue haired male being handed another ice cream cone and making note of his smile once again, a flicker of elation eased into her system. It had not donned on her that this had occurred either as she took to waiting on the sidelines placidly until gestured to do otherwise. While the ginger had nodded to the notion of finding a bench and walking next to Adrien, she would no longer make any notion in an attempt to hold his hand or bridge the sizable gap between them as they walked. Instead she had taken to focusing on her ice cream, pressing her lips softly against the frozen dessert. It did what she wanted well, the mild sweetness coating her tongue and the chill of it suppressing the built of heat that lingered... on her face anyway.
The beating in her chest was still having difficulty settling into a slower rhythm. No matter how long Adrian held her ice cream to her lips and ate small portions of the treat, it seemed to have no effect to her dismay. Enveloped in her thought, mild concern rippling at the idea that her health remained in question, she did not even realize that Adrien had closed the gap between them. In fact she'd only notice once the familiar warmth was placed back around her to which her attention was thrown out of her trance. Pulling the ice cream cone away from her face, her eyes darted towards the man in question. The momentary tension that surfaced from the touch would dissipate within seconds, her body easing into his touch and supposedly acting more comfortable with these actions despite the steady increase of weight weighing down her heart afterwards.
Yet now she felt awkward, unsure of what to do or how to act. Her eyes would trail back to the walkway in front of her as she returned to taking small nibbles into her own ice cream, entirely missing the grimace from Adrien in the process. Thus when the pace began to noticeably slow, the firm hold of Adrien's arm around her bringing her own pace to mirror his, she'd pause momentarily. "Hm?" She'd hum the acknowledgement of her name, her head tilting to the side with a slight turn towards him as her attention shifted back to her company. Of course little did she expect that in doing so their faces would inadvertently edge ever closer as Adrien leaned in towards her.
A whisper would find itself reaching the woman's ear, the request taking a moment to process due to being overcome by the realization of the lack of distance between the two. She wouldn't react immediately, her mind reeling backwards trying to find a foothold in this situation. Each word that was said was being pieced together back into its original sentence, eventually striking the redhead with the force of wrecking ball.
And just when her blush had subsided.
"Wh-" Incredulous as it might have been, the heat that had receded bubbled back up with more force than ever. The shock of the question eventually formed her features to reflect that emotion, her eyes seeking some assurance of a jest hidden on his expression. Her mind was racing trying to find some other explanation to the question rather than the one that was jumped too. Why would he want to? Maybe because he was such a flirt? There was no possible way he thought she'd say yes to that right? Not that she would have-
Why hadn't she pushed him away in utter revulsion yet? Rolled her eyes and called him disgusting for even insinuating the possibility? No, instead she remained there staring towards him. Her lips pursed together momentarily to create a thin line. What were the chances that... "M-mind if you do what?" She spoke up albeit stammering a bit despite the accusatory inflection in her voice, no longer paying a single bit of attention the ice cream being held in her hands.

"Hm?" Her intial shock caused Adrien to look up and refocus on her visage curiously, immediately recognizing the discomfort etched on her face. It almost seemed as if the mere thought of him taking a bite from her cone had revolted her. "You don't have to if you don't want to," He'd quickly add, his good eye seizing opportunity to just study her face. It wasn't always that he could get so close to her, his gaze lowering from her eyes to her flushed cheeks and finally to those lips. "Mind if I..." So close. He'd subconsciously lean in, eye solely focused on her lips before... So close.
So very clo--Oh.
Realization hit like a freight train. "Ah," Adrien instantly recoiled his head a bit his as he'd rewind back to his words. It suddenly occured to him how his request could have been misinterpreted. A tinge of crimson could be spotted on his face momentarily as he'd shift his eye away from her. "S-Sorry", Pursing his own lips, Adrien had the sudden urge to go bang his head somewhere for making the moment awkward. A kiss had crossed his mind and he left stupid for letting that happen. Although... Was she expecting one? The thought was a terrifying one. Adrian couldn't have . From day one she had always shut him down even when his banter was mistaken for advances. This of all things would have definitely not been tolerated. Speaking of which, why wasn't he struck on the face yet?
What's more was that despite his slip-up he hadn't yet completely reclined back nor had removed his arm from her shoulder. His thought process was shutting down at the moment and all he could think about was clarifying himself and hoping that flush on her face (despite being ever so cute) would calm down. "I uh, meant the ice-cream," He'd attempt to quickly recover, his voice back to normal although his mind was still a chaotic mess. "I meant..." He'd lean forward for the cone in her hand, finally taking a small bite from it and completely dismissing the fact that he had originally attempted to ask her permission to do so. Looking back up at her, he'd continue with an awkward smile, hoping that he had successfully clarified the situation.

IT'S THE SAME OLD STORY BUT YOU NEVER GET IT RIGHT
He leaned closer and suddenly the possibility became all too real. Eyes would fixate themselves towards Adrien’s lips as the woman rapidly became hyper aware of herself and her surroundings. The sound of her breath reached her ears and conflicted with the echo of her beating heart. The feeling of Adrien’s breath brushing over her skin, freezing her in place helplessly. Why was she so helpless to this? Why did it feel like she wanted...
“Ah”
The voice followed by Adrien shifting his head back broke Adrian free from his spell, her eyes widening as her consciousness regained control. Sharing the same instinct, Adrian’s eyes had diverted away from him as he’d apologize -an apology that she would not respond to whatsoever. Instead she took to biting her bottom lip hesitantly, wondering why that had happened. He was aiming for a kiss wasn’t he? Even day one he had shamelessly offered one without a second thought. And this time he was so close. She was so close. They’re lips were so very close. So why did he stop then?
And why was she feeling so distraught?
Honestly she shouldn’t have cared. Nothing had come out of it and she should have been grateful for that. Months ago she probably would have beaten him senseless for even trying. Not like a kiss from her wouldn’t have even meant anything to Arkwright, right? Adrian had to convince herself of that to be able to force her gaze back to the navy haired man. While she wanted to question it, her subconscious wouldn’t allow for her conscious self to do so out of what could only be described as fear for the answer. With all that was said and done, it was needless to say that the reddened cheeks of the ginger remained as bright as ever as her eyes went back to looking towards Adrien’s lips – watching them move as he spoke whatever words he was saying. What was he saying? Ice cream?
It would take a moment before Adrian would recall the ice cream in her hand right as the man would move in to take a bite out of it himself. The sight of such boldness didn’t help matters concerning the deep crimson hue emblazoned across her face, a slight breath of surprise inhaled after. How was she supposed to cool down now? If she ate from the same place it would have been an indirect kiss. Actually, it was still an indirect kiss... but again that didn’t actually matter to Adrien, did it? She had to remember that. Remember not to talk so much stock in the things he did.
Shutting her eyes, trying to regain some sort of ground, she groaned. “You’re such a kid.” While she said that in complaint, giving him a small nudge in his side for the trouble, the woman didn’t sound angry rather than simply embarrassed. Yet she couldn’t exactly complain could she? He had paid for everything and he did sort of ask. Her eyes would eventually fall back to her own ice cream before shoving it towards Adrien’s face, mostly so he couldn’t see her own to make fun of her. “We’ll just... share, I guess.” She glanced away. Who really ordered the wrong flavor ice cream? “You big baby.”

The gasp that escaped her lips caused him to tense up, worried that she may have disliked him taking a bite. The issue of an indirect kiss didn't cross his mind, something of that degree rather trivial in his mind. Although it did mean that she was perhaps not comfortable with him. He'd finally realize that he still had a firm arm around her, his fingers slowly withdrawing from her should she wish to move away. Surprisingly (and thankfully) she didn't and instead nudged his side and chided him. He didn't flinch nor frown, but would sigh in relief and look away -- gratitude washing over his features. He was so close to ruining this date, even though this date was getting more difficult with each passing minute. The fact that she just called him a child was lost to him, not that it would matter otherwise.
She'd push the ice-cream towards him, the cream touching his upper lip before he'd recoil and finally recline completely to be at her side again. The cold touch on his lips would finally have him focus on her words. "Haaa, it was just one bite," A light sigh as he'd smile again, relieved as ever that she didn't yell or hit him. But he wouldn't bother her for another since she seemed so apparently disturbed by it. "Baby? You're the one who cried for ice-cream," Adrien scoffed as he'd turn back to the streets, his hand properly planting upon her shoulder again as they'd begin walking.
Crossing a trashcan soon enough, he'd discard his own melting cone. He'd turn quieter than usual now. the Galactic admin's mind was elsewhere and still rewinding back to that moment where he almost kissed her. He had to just forget what had happened, that he wasn't about to express himself. But he couldn't. Mayhaps if he just got these feelings out of his chest, he could finally disappear and never see her again. All she had to do was reject him, all she had to do was back away. All she had to do was push him away. But right now, the way they were, uncertainty took over. Heck, he had his hand around her. That little fear that she perhaps had begun liking him had taken over, especially after her reactions over these few hours. He'd swallow down the lump in his throat as they began walking again. Maybe...now?
"Hey..." He'd start again after a small pause and then took a deep inhale. Just say it. It'll be quick. It'll end quicker. All he had to say was...

IT'S THE SAME OLD STORY BUT YOU NEVER GET IT RIGHT
Somehow the situation was getting reversed on her, Adrian glancing back towards the man as he countered her baby jab at him. A gross exaggeration on his part that had the woman's lips curve into a frown. "I did not," she defended swiftly. The security of Adrien's hand placed back on her shoulder however had stopped her from taking the argument much further than narrowing her eyes at him disbelievingly. Nevertheless it did not change the fact that he had rejected taking another bite out of her ice cream which Adrian mentally questioned among other, more pressing, things that occupied her mind. He just made a big fuss and riled her up, over having some of her ice cream. Now he was fine? The woman huffed as she persisted to offer the sweet treat into Adrien's face. "Just eat some of it you idiot," she stated firmly, determined not to stop until he had at least taken another bite. It was better than allowing her mind to wander and begin delving into her thoughts.
Yet it wouldn't take long after that Adrian would have no choice but to succumb to the silence, save for the atmospheric background noise she had become so accustom to on her patrols alone. Turning towards the road and looking aimlessly ahead as if she had known where they were headed. Normally the ginger would have no issue nor trouble falling into this state, however today was much different. Today she could not focus, unable to follow a single idea for longer than a few seconds. Today Adrien was with her, supporting her with the clutch of his hand at her shoulder. And today Adrian had to question and patch herself back together before she broke.
"Hm?" The sound of Adrien's voice earned him the ranger's attention, her gaze traveling towards him without turning her head to not risk another misunderstanding. Ironically the ginger was all but oblivious to his thought process, his blissfully unaware of the meaning behind his actions within the last few seconds as she waited for what was next. The arbitrary question that came however was received with a questioning look, a brow raising out of confusion of the basis in which it had come from. "No I'm not," she answered truthfully, a dubious undertone being taken out of concern of the question's origin. With how the statement was phrased it almost sounded as if Adrien had already known that answer and was inquiring further, completely ignorant of the fact that she was the one that had let that information slip earlier that day.
It was not as if she was trying to hide that fact though. Many of the rangers at headquarters had known that and she herself had provided the information whenever she was asked before. Thus she'd shrug and extend that same courtesy, "I was born in Kalos." But that didn't change the fact that the question had come out of left field. She would have questioned about Adrien's origin had it not been for his Arkwright name already telling her more than enough on it. Instead she decided to settle for pursuing his train of thought. "Why? I didn't think that was important."
And where were they headed again anyway? We're they supposed to be finding a bench?
