major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
[break][break] Lake Valor was often hailed as one of the best tourist destinations Sinnoh had to offer with people from various regions visiting the lake what was supposedly home to the legendary pokemon - Azelf. But tonight, the lakeside is deserted - not a soul in sight as a dense cold fog shrouded the vicinity. The cries and hisses of Pokemon can be heard in the thick tall grass and silhouettes flicker pass you as you make your way to the pier. [break][break] A plethora of boats have been docked, although all have been abandoned as guides refuse to take passengers to the island at the center due to the recent phenomenons at Verity. Whether you choose to ride your pokemon or take the boat, the destination remains the same. Head towards the island at the center, but be cautious. [break][break]The waters aren't as still as they seem... [break][break]

Parker wasn't a fan of being around wooded areas at night. It wasn't anything like the city, but he was here for a reason. Mostly just because someone had to rep Galactic. Of course he'd heard rumors on the wind that he wasn't the only Galactic in this particular event happening, but he'd never met Calypso and therefore didn't really know how well they'd get along.
Of course when he approached, he'd wait a few moments noting that he was the first to arrive. He tapped his foot on the dock as he gazed out toward the center island, slightly lost in thought. He had Pudding, Cracker, and Cupcake on him and none of them could really take him across....looked like he was taking a boat.
He approached one of the boats, but decided for now he would wait for Calypso. Once she approached he raised his hand in greeting, politely helping her into the boat and kicking them off.

he keeps his head low as he trudges through the fog that spreads across the vicinity of the lake. he can't see below his shin, can't see what he's stepping on, or in. he hears ruffling in the bushes, fading footsteps of what he can only assume are others like him, curious about the incident, but he's not here for himself, instead he's been ordered on a mission. get us the legendary. this is your chance to redeem yourself. redeem himself for what, he can't be sure anymore; was it the escape attempts? or the mini hiatus? whatever it was he knows he needs to do this to please them.
his nose twitches at the scent of water and gasoline. the lake must not have been too far now, it was hard to tell underneath the cover of the fog. reports told of a flash of white at each lake and what followed were violent attacks. if for that reason only he keeps his hand in his pocket at all times, around a single pokeball ready to be brought out. he steps off the grass and onto wood instead, the docks now in sight.
each step causes the wood to creak underneath him. he looks around, tries to hear anything but it's clear that most, if not all, of valor has been abandoned. he's not surprised, the warnings from media outlets were clear to stay away from the lake for now. despite that there are still some people on the docks, scarce, but they're there. "hey, you going acros--" attempt after attempt he'd fail to find a boat willing. none of them wanted to take him across for unknown reasons. he assumes out of safety concerns but as he stares at the lake he can't seem to understand their worries. it looks fine.
he nears the edge of the dock and bends down to a knee, letting his fingers trace the surface of the water. it's cold. the water's too still even for a lake. he's uncomfortable with the situation, now abandoning the idea of using anu to get across since he's not too sure what lurks beneath. ripples in the lake would set him off, eyes glancing to the right to see the outline of a boat and some passengers leaving. he's too late to get on that one and he doubts he can find another.
he sighs and wipes his fingers against his pants as he stands back up. he pulls the hood off of his head and calls out a pokemon. the bright flash of white is bright enough to attract attention, especially in the middle of a fog. standing on the dock now is koma, the talonflame. he flaps his wings and nudges his beak against lucas's hand. "h-hey, koma." the feeling of his feathers still feels weird, it reminds him too much of his braviary. he shifts his gaze between the bird and the lake, eyes trying their best to see through the fog to where the cave was. but instead his ears pick up footsteps. he turns, one hand remains on the bird as if telling him not to attack. he's not sure where the sound came from but he keeps his eyes wary before speaking up.
alpha's tail helps keep some of the fog at bay as they walk. she'd been dropped off in veilstone almost an hour after she'd received the call. her performance as of late has been exemplary and while they may not trust her, she has a feeling she's gaining ground, finding small handholds to pull herself up inch by inch into their ranks. after all, she's the one who had received the glossy manila folder with the valor mission.
her work as of late has been keeping her busy, keeping her tired, keeping her away from the messages on her phone. different numbers, same person, she knows. she'll get letters sometimes, tied to the leg of a pidove, and not once has she opened them before letting alpha spit a few embers on them. it's for the best. that's what she tells herself. it's best for both of them--perhaps not to forget each other, but to forget their loyalties. she can't afford to question her own.
the surrounding area of valor is too quiet, too eerie, and the path they walk on is deserted. there will be other people there. it's up to you to protect the pokemon of the lake. she has no backup. the rangers are stretched too thin with the new appearance of rocket. dealing with both crime syndicates at the same time has taken its toll. she must be proving her worth if she's here alone.
eventually they find their way to the shore. ramshackle boats sit pristine next to their perspective docks and she narrows her eyes. she hadn't felt a breeze before, but suddenly she's aware of just how quiet it is, just how empty. "something's really not right." alpha stays a moment longer by the shore, blue eyes narrowing as he stares into the water. willow pauses. "is everything--?" but before she can finish, the charmeleon brushes her off and starts walking again.
they walk for another few minutes until it's made clear that no one else can take them across the lake. though she does see the shape of a boat on the water, two silhouettes inside, as it moves cleanly towards the cave in the middle of the lake. she reaches for lyune's ball, but alpha stays her hand, nose twitching. recognition flares in the charmeleon's eyes and he shifts on his feet, looks down. "i know that look. what is it?"
he points. two docks down are more silhouettes, wavering forms too obscured in the fog for her to make out anything more than a trainer and their pokemon. but the look on alpha's face makes her heart sink. "is it...?" it can't be. but alpha nods. he's here to find the legendary pokemon and take it. she closes her eyes to steel herself. half of her wants to run, though she know she can't. they'll have to deal with one another once they reach the cave anyway and...no, no, it's not like that.
"let's go," she murmurs. the silhouettes take a more solid shape. she's taken aback when she realizes that it's lucas's fletchling she'd battled only a few weeks ago, though it's not a fletchling anymore. once upon a time, their teams had grown together. she'd felt as close to his as her own. she stiffens when he turns suddenly; alpha's tail twitches.
"lucas, it's--it's me." she holds her hands up, palms out. i mean no harm. even though she knows this is probably hurting him as much as it's hurting her. "so they sent you, too." they don't have time to dally on awkward meetings. "i saw two people in a boat heading out already. we need to get going now." she takes out alpha's ball and returns the charmeleon. then she pulls out lyune's, looks down at the water.
"i have a swimmer to carry me, but--" i don't like the look of that water.

it's me.
his heart drops when he hears those words, her voice instantly clicks in his head letting him put two and two together. of course she'd be here. he watches through the fog her outline slowly starting to form, and next to her a source of light that suddenly makes him feel a lot more uncomfortable. he instinctively takes a step back to avoid the fire. his back soon hits the bird and with no where else to go he takes a deep breath. koma tries to comfort the man by nudging his beak against him, but that wouldn't work. soon the charmeleon's recalled and everything feels lighter.
you're okay, you're safe.
it all happens in a brief moment and he hides his fear well, the fog helping to keep his facade up. he's brought back to reality when she speaks again. he doesn't say a word, not yet, how could he? he's annoyed. all those messages, calls, even letters, ignored. it's not the best feeling in the world.
"are we speaking now? finally." he tries his best to hide his annoyance but it just seeps through with his final word. he hates feeling like this, hates not knowing. but he knows it'll do neither of them any good if he keeps acting like this. he shakes her head at her suggestion. "water looks too suspicious. i have anu, but i'd rather not." it doesn't register in his head that she hasn't seen his new team yet. it's been weeks since they last saw each other, and in that time period he's distracted himself with training and battling.
"we can fly there on koma." he gives the bird a gentle pat before letting his hands fall down to his side. he then remembers the conflict between their two factions and how they'd be forced to fight sooner or later. he's here for the legendary and she's here to stop him, no doubt. "he's strong enough to carry both of us." he gently nudges the bird forward, koma swings his wings downwards and up to stretch them, getting ready for a flight. the man turns back to avery and looks at her with an annoyed yet worried expression.
[break][break] What unlikely allies that would be formed this night, as two sailed off towards the heart of the lake and two would cautiously standby at the shore. The eerily quiet atmosphere would not shift for the better. A mysterious crying sound would echo into the air as the water of the lake rippled outwards from the island that stood in the center. The boat that Parker and Calypso rode would rock wildly as the ripple passed by the vessel in what would look to be a warning against venturing further. [break][break] Suddenly from the otherwise calm waters, a swarm of Gyarados burst forth from their depths. Their appearance would normally indicate defensive aggression and one might believe they were there to fend off invaders. On the contrary, as they appeared, they turned to each other. One by one they began flailing in the water, attacking nothing and seemingly doing nothing more than stir the waters to treacherous levels. If this continued then the boat would capsize and those within it would be left stranded to their fate. Now brave adventurers, what will you do? [break][break] Calypso Barnes - Missed Rotation
the bird is even more brilliant up close. sunset and tawny feathers ruffle as the pokemon shifts. there's shallow recognition in its eyes and she wonders if lucas has shared anything of her with it, or with the rest of his team. her gaze only slides back to him when he poses a question and her look is somewhat unkind. brows pinch and she says in exasperation, "speaking now that we're faced with the very situation i was trying to avoid, yes." her voice stings, though there's a softness beneath the words, a you know i didn't want it to be like this. everything she can't say.
"anu." she repeats the name, but she doesn't ask anything further. it's clear he won't be using it to get across. lyune is strong, but she knows his flighty tactics would prove difficult for her should he run into trouble on their swim over. the question had been there unasked, though when he gives her an answer, she has to forces herself not to say no. she wants to prove she can do this on her own, but she's not above putting her team in danger. not again.
"then we'll go on koma." she steps forward, reaches out curled fingers towards the bird. but lucas stays her hand when he speaks. "because of this. do you see where we are right now? i know why you're here, just as you know why i'm here. if i were really doing my job, i would stop you from leaving this dock and going anywhere near that cave." she goes on to say more, to say they should drop this, not think about it now, just get there, but then she hears a cry.
the sound of water crashing has her stepping past lucas and squinting into the fog. the boat she'd seen earlier is spinning out amidst a writhing mass of...something. she can't make out what they are from here, but all she knows is that those people are in danger.
"we have to go." she stops, turns. "i have to go. i have to help them. and i'll do that with or without you and koma." fingertips linger on lyune's pokeball as she waits for his answer.
Post by LUCAS BLACKBURN on Sept 10, 2016 9:02:03 GMT
brows furrow upon hearing her answer, because no matter how much he wants to deny it he knows it's true, that this is problematic. he opens his mouth to speak but the sound of a cry stops him. he looks to the source to see the lake starting to unsettle, water rippling violently, the boat from before now looks to be in danger as it almost capsizes. he then shifts his gaze onto the ranger, feeling conflicted yet again.
the rocket in him tells him to just abandon them, to use this as an opportunity to get to the cave. if it was just any other ranger this would have been an easy decision, but it wasn't. he grits his teeth and finally sighs, nodding as he reaches for another pokeball in his pocket. "fine." he finds anu's and calls her out into the lake, a kingdra materializes as she plunges into the lake. she stays afloat and looks to the man for orders.
"avery, anu." he takes a moment to introduce them before kneeling down near the edge of the docks. he leans closer to anu, a hand reaches out to her to place on her head just between the spines on her head. "keep her safe for me," he whispers, "can you do that?" she replies with a nod that only garners a smile from the man. "good." he stands back up and dusts off his palms before turning to the ranger. "she'll listen to you."
he takes a phone out of his pocket and places it neatly on the dock. he's preparing for the worse as it becomes clearer with every passing second that he might have to delve into the water. "avery." he turns to look at her, voice carrying genuine concern. "be careful." and with that he'd climb onto the bird and take off into the sky.
his eyes squint as they fly into the fog towards the chaos. outlines and shapes soon become clearer and it doesn't take long for him to understand the situation. a few gyarados seem to be the cause of the problem, all of them trashing violently at the water though for what reason he can't be sure. there's no way they'd make it past them to the cave, not by water anyways. again, the temptation to just fly right over them calls out to him but he shakes his head. she's going to help them, and he has to help her.
"take me down."
the bird changes his flight direction and soars downwards towards the rocking boat. he's quick to fall off of the bird and land on the boat, feet clashing with the plastic to make an audible thump. a hand immediately wraps around a pole at the side of the boat to help him keep his balance. he looks to the two passengers and gestures off the boat.
"you need to get off this boat now. can you swim?" he asks. the boat rocks more violently now, almost tipping over at one point. "use your pokemon to help calm the gyarados, if you have any." he shifts his gaze away from them and onto the many gyarados. he sees koma doing his best to calm them, using a TAILWIND to fly faster and then an ACROBATICS on one of them. if they can't be calmed then they can be defeated.
though his concern still remains with the ranger who was forced to travel by water. he looks to the side and into the fog, worry at a high as he clenches his jaw. stay safe. "swim back to shore. the cave isn't worth it." the tone in his voice makes it clear that it was more of an order than a suggestion.
that's not who--but he's gone before she can think of even say anything. she crouches down near the dock's edge and holds out a hand to greet lucas's kingdra. the seahorse pokemon drifts closer and presses the tip of her snout against willow's outstretched hand. her gaze softens and then she stands, shrugs off her coat and ties it around her waist. gaze flickers towards the rampaging gyarados; there's not much time to waste.
she's lost sight of lucas and koma, and that's part of the reason why she's working so quickly. lyune is released from his ball. his serpentine form disappears underwater for a moment and then willow follows. hands hit the water first in her dive, but it still doesn't do anything to prepare her for how godsdamned cold the lake water is. she comes up sputtering and gasping, teeth clenching to stop them from chattering.
anu is under her then. she wraps stiff fingers around the kingdra's back fin. lyune resurfaces and dips his head towards her, nose tickling her neck. she scratches the side of his cheek and then looks out onto the lake. "we're going to stay on the edge. we're not attacking," she says as she tugs her stylus out. she has no idea if this will work. angry gyarados are not fun. but she swallows her fear and urges anu forward.
the kingdra snorts and lurches forward. lake water surges and willow has to hold on with most of her strength to stop from being ripped off of anu's back. when they grow nearer, she suddenly makes the team stop. confusion at the gyarados twists into fear when she sees lucas on the boat. "lyune, double team. now. calm them however you can. and if anyone falls off that boat, you help them." her grey eyes are cold when she looks at him. "you know your priorities."
"anu, i need to get close to them for this to work. we'll focus on those two." she points forward and then the kingdra rocks beneath her. lips shiver, fingers whiten. she prays she doesn't drop her stylus. waves buffet her as they get closer and she coughs as water fills her nose. "this won't work. you'll have to dive under." she takes a breath and then she's under. the cold wraps tightly around her.
underneath the water, she can make out just how sporadic the movements of the gyarados are. this isn't an attack. this is madness. anu is quick, but she's not as agile with willow on her back. so she keeps a wide berth as she circles, doing her best to dodge tails and fins and gaping jaws. the tip of willow's stylus glows. rings start to overlap one another as they make their rotations. her chest aches and she fights the urge to inhale. only when black spots dance on the edge of her vision does she yank on anu's shoulder and motion towards the surface.
the connection with her stylus breaks, leaves a soft glow around the gyarados, but when she reaches the surface, she can't spare the expense of watching to see if it had worked. she's draped over anu's shoulder, sputtering and retching as she tries to fill too-empty lungs with air.

If he's honest, he's not doing too good. He wonders briefly why he joined the raid at all, maybe some reckless need to prove himself? He's pale, he can feel it, as the water starts to churn. He glances at Calypso and watches her own face reflect his own. He takes a deep breath. He stands in the boat.
And then nearly fucking falls over when some guy lands in their boat and basically demands them to get out. He feels his face heat up, fire boil in his veins, and his lips curl back in a sneer. His knuckles itched at being commanded like that, reminded him of some time ago. He didn't comment though, simply looked down into the waters churning and saw some chick trying to calm down the gyarados.
Which was fine and all, that was fine. But Parker was wearing a heavy sweatshirt and a binder and he was a city kid.
He couldn't swim.
"Nah dude I'd rather go down with this boat so you can just fuck off."
Why did he come here anyway? The boat seemed so solid before, and still seemed solid enough to withstand the waves but what did he know? He braced himself on the boat, gazing down into the depths and glancing at Calypso, trying to communicate something to her.
[break][break] There appeared to be a disagreement. Differences in ideas, opinions, goals. This common to see in humans though it hardly helped ease this situation. The Gyarados would continue to thrash about in the water and it was a fool's errand to approach them haphazardly. The single boat floating amidst the water would not be able to withstand the fluctuating current as water began to splash into the sides. No longer was it a boat rather than a sinking stone on the brink of desolation. The efforts of Willow using her stylus would be somewhat effective to some extent, a few Gyarados receding back from their aggressive state. However the attacked performed by Lucas' Talonflame would have the opposite effect, as the acrobatics struck true into the back of one. Whether it was due to luck or misfortune, the recoil from the attack caused the tail of that Gyarados to crash into the boat as well and the result sent it flying into the air with the passengers that remained there. [break][break] Calypso would be the victim of misfortune however as the strike would hit her the most directly. The impact would leave a large bruise on her chest, knocking the wind out of her lungs and otherwise incapacitate the woman as she fell into the lake's edge. That being the case, an orb of light would then appear at the entrance to the cavern in the center isle. The Gyarados were continued to flail regardless of this as the orb of light would shift higher into the sky and create a streak as it traveled. These streaks would form words if one paid attention and they would spell out the following: [break][break]
"I do not understand - Why are you here?"
[break] [break][break] Calypso Barnes - Missed Round (2). Incapacitated and will die if not rescued. [break][break] Note: Use the roll function for your next post. [break][break]
relief washes through her when she watches some of the gyarados recede, but the feeling is short-lived. not a moment later does she watch koma dive down towards the other circle of gyarados, body twisting as it lashes out at the flailing pokemon. her heart skips a beat when she sees the tail come down and she screams out a warning, but it's too late. one of the waves from the gyarados' tail washes over her. anu forces them back up to the surface; breathes go in and out of her snout anxiously as she searches for her trainer.
"lyune, find him." the copies of her dragalge fade around her and leave a single one on the surface. his serpentine body disappears as he slinks under the water. the gyarados are moving faster now and she's struggling to hold onto anu against the force of the waves, but she doesn't dare leave. she's not so sure the kingdra would go anywhere without knowing her trainer was safe either.
there were other people on that boat, willow. she knows this. this thought keens at her, scratches at her insides, for every second she holds anu back and waits to see lucas resurface. waits to see that he's safe. a light in the sky distracts her, gaze flickering upwards. she blinks past the salt in her eyes, can barely make out the words in the sky with her blurred vision.
she can't worry about that now. no one has resurfaced yet and the waters haven't gotten any calmer. "lyune will get him," she says in an attempt to console the distraught kingdra. "we have to--we have to try." she urges anu down, but the pokemon's having trouble listening to her. her movements are shakier, rougher, as she plunges back under the water under willow's orders.
it's almost impossible to see underwater, but she can make out the form of something, no, someone sinking lower and lower. they're not moving. anu circles closer and willow reaches out, sinks fingers into the body's shoulder. there was still one more, her brain is telling her, but she's been under too long. her lungs are aching and this person needs to get to the surface.
so she points anu away from the horde, away from lashing tails and flailing bodies, and they resurface in calmer waters. the body she's holding is deadweight and she can't tell if the person is dead or unconscious. "take us to the cave's shore."
dragalge is sent to retrieve lucas willow rescues one person (up to players whether it's parker or calypso) kingdra is taking both of them to cave's shore

it all happens in an instant; the turn to abandon the two on the boat, the piercing cry from the gyarados, the impact to the boat that sends him flying off the edge. he doesn't have time to take a proper breath before he finds himself fully submerged. his body temperature drops, he wants to scream, to shout out at the sudden coldness that surrounds his body. eyes open under, he tries his best to swim up to the surface but the flailing from multiple sources makes it hard, the current of the water pulls him in many directions though none of them to where it matters most.
he's running out of air, he feels it when he can barely keep his eyes open. a hand reaches out in desperation, for anything to save him from sinking further. luckily for him help comes in the form of a dragalge. something wraps around his hand, he doesn't know what, but he takes hold of it anyways. he's pulled against the current and within a few second he's resurfaced in much calmer waters.
he struggles for air, coughs are short and rapid, every inhale for air sounds like he's choking. he rests head against his arm that's now wrapped around the dragalge. eventually his breathing becomes less rapid but he's now shivering in the cold water. his eyes look to the cave to see the outline of two bodies and a pokemon. he assume, hopes that it's avery and anu. he doesn't care who the other person is, just that she makes it out safely. they're headed to the cave but his eyes shifts back to the violent waters behind him.
one's missing.
it should bother him that someone's in trouble, but he can't find it in him to go after them, not when she's safe on the cave's shore. instead he turns away, gestures the dragalge towards the cave. "thanks for saving me." he whispers to the dragalge and places a hand on the kelp pokemon's fin as they make their way to the cave. eyes glance upwards to see koma. he places two fingers in his mouth and blows, whistle. it's enough to catch the attention of the fire bird, so he points towards the cave and that's where he goes.
he just hope that she's safe.
- does not help anyone in the water - heads to the cave - talonflame flies towards the cave

Before Parker could do much more, he felt himself lift up. Suddenly he was crashing into cold water, and he was sinking down, down, down. He flailed and panicked, realizing that he was royally fucked. Desperately though he flailed his arms and managed some semblance of form, kicking his legs and opening his eyes. He needed to find Calypso. While she'd been eerily silent this whole time he'd seen how pale her face was and figured maybe she was regretting this situation as much as he was.
He couldn't find her in the water. Kicking his legs and breaching the surface, he zeroed in on the skies and spotted Calpyso's hair, with one of the others. So she was safe? He prayed she was. Next, he zeroed in on the shore, and with a sense of panic realized how far away it was. Weighed down by his hoodie he realized with a sense of dread he'd have to abandon it. It was dragging him down and he pulled off the offending article, clad in his black binder and a very wet white muscle shirt.
He checked his pockets, made sure his team was there, and struggled back towards shore. One of the Gyarados flailing in the water got too close though, and with a looming sense of dread he realized that the tail heading towards him was very real. He was forced under the water again and with a dizzy mind realized he now had roughly....at least 3 cracked ribs. He felt his chest nearly cave in and knew from experience the sharp stabbing pain in his side for what it was.
He managed to breach the surface again, sputtering water and with a splitting headache. Paddling to shore he crawled onto land and vomited up a few mouthfuls of water. He breathed deeply, gritting his teeth against the pain, and stood up. He looked around, shivering, and felt a warm trickling down his temple. Okay great it was blood, so he had 3 broken ribs and possibly a concussion.
"Worst shit ever great..."
He focused all his attention on Calypso though, and watched the two land. Immediately he scrambled over to her, ignoring the spooky scary whispering from the cave in favor of trying to save his fellow Galactic.
This was like his crew all over again, and he really really didn't want her to die.
[break][break] None would oblige the floating sphere with any response. Answers absent as priorities were set to saving lives - saving each other. A valiant effort and one afforded the consideration of the school of Gyarados. Momentarily the pokemon would lessen the intensity of their wild thrashing as the humans would reemerge to the surface. A majority would seek refuge on the cavern isle in which the orb of light would shift higher in the night sky and away from the group. Whether this patch of earth would grant them safety remained to be seen as roars would resound in unison with enough force to strike fear in a lesser man. The single Galactic that returned to the shoreline would be able to do so with the prying scarlet gazes of the Gyarados. The metallic scent of blood drew their attention with ease. A few would break apart from their rampaging brethren to approach Parker as he escaped from the lake's grasp. [break][break]
"YOU"
[break][break] A booming voice echoed into the minds of all present. The sphere of illumination quivered. Another ripple would shift the waters of Lake Valor and as it traveled, something abnormal would occur. A chain reaction - the ripple making way for artificial tranquility. The further the wave expanded, the more obvious it would become that each and every Gyarados would freeze. Completely motionless and absolutely still. It was as if time itself froze for the area that was the lake. Willow, Lucas, and Parker would be able to continue to move however any pokemon out of their pokeballs would also suffer the same fate as the Gyarados. The quivering orb would lower at this time and Lucas alone would hear the following words. [break][break]
"Tell me. What is it you desire most?"
[break][break] If a disembodied light could stare at someone - it would be staring at Lucas as it hovered nearby awaiting an answer. What would this mean for everyone else?
