IT'S THE SAME OLD STORY BUT YOU NEVER GET IT RIGHT
It was always impressive how many people got gotten riled up during the holiday seasons. As silly as they were to someone like Adrian, there was at least some ounce of appreciation for the enthusiasm that sprung from individuals that chose to decorate their homes and allow the younger generations to enjoy themselves in their games of pretend. Thus as small children would run past in their outfits meant to strike fear rather than looking adorable on the night of supposed horror, the ginger could only huff an amused breath as she brought her gloved hand over to protect her bare shoulder from the chilly night air.
Night had fallen over the city of Jubilife and, while participating in any sort of festivity was never particularly her thing, the ranger commissioner had decided to indulge in the night's events. Having purposefully setting time apart from work with the insistence of a rather roguish lover, Adrian had found herself wandering the outskirts of Jubilife in a rather unusual costume. In some ways it was rather impressive how inconspicuous it made the commissioner, not many recognizing her based on her title rather than a stranger in costume. That said, it wasn't a very... indistinct look that she would have ever gone for. The ginger wasn't sure how she was talked into it, likely some form of sugar coated words and affection that had convinced her, but the more looks that she had gotten towards her the more awkwardly indignant she became.
"I hope you're enjoying this," she's speak up towards the cobalt man besides her, trying her best to ignore the feeling of fur brushing against the back of her legs as they walked. Indeed, dressing like an overly provocative cat costume did wonders to mask her from those who had known her as the abrasive straightedge commissioner of the rangers. Normally the woman wouldn't have been caught dead in such an outfit and perhaps enough people had known that to overlook the identity herself in costume. From the white cat ears to the makeup and even the curled tail that swayed in the evening breeze, of course it was only Adrien Arkwright that could convince her to do such a thing.

Pale skin, pointed ears, the signature fangs and a long black cape -- Adrien had chosen to celebrate Halloween in the most classic of outfits – The vampire. Halloween wasn’t anything special to the Arkwright male, having stopped attending such festivities a while back. Those late night Halloween parties he used to grace with his presence were now a thing of the past, The man now found the art of socializing tiresome if anything. But on this day, there was one certain person the man had absolutely no objections in spending the day with. That person being Adrian Mastry – the woman that now walked besides him, all dolled up in a provocative costume he had picked out for her.
For her sake (and so that she agreed) Adrien would actually put effort into his costume. “Thanks, baby,” He’d gently whisper and plant a soft kiss on her cheek in response, careful as to not smudge those whiskers. The Galactic admin had finally managed to coax her into wearing the rather immodest attire. It looked amazing on her, and despite telling her that numerous times, his lady-love was apparently not convinced. Eyes would turn to inspect the cute tail a final time before meeting her visage. “It still doesn’t beat a swimsuit but it’ll do~” He’d scoff recalling how she refused to let him even think about it back at Sunnyshore. And finally, taking note of the cool temperatures, Adrien would drape an arm over her shoulders. The cape of his costume followed along his arm, blanketing her back.
The Jubilife Haunted House was one of the latest attractions hosted up on the occasion of Halloween and that was popular with people of all ages. Those who had visited it gave the place quite a few good reviews, although Galactic had caught wind of some trouble brewing within those four walls. A few grunts had gone missing and combined with other rumours surrounding the place, cautious by the organization had been advised. And while he paid heed to the warming, the male also wasn’t opposed to a few thrills – confident that was able to handle things.
Keeping that in mind, the male would tug he closer as they’d approach the haunted house – their turn soon to come.

IT'S THE SAME OLD STORY BUT YOU NEVER GET IT RIGHT
The words of appreciation were met with a hum of discontent, quieted only by the sensation of his supple lips impressed onto her cheek after his breath had brushed against her ear. "You better be," she supplied quickly the second that the kiss was parted from her. Despite already having managed to persuade her, the ginger had every intention of making her lover repay her for every milligram of humiliation she felt while within the scantily clad outfit. Dressing up was never particularly her thing, per say. Granted, it was better than wearing a dress but not by much. That said it should have been of no surprise that the woman looked quite out of her element, the woman was never one to do something as trivial or petty as dressing up and flaunting about like an idiot; and while her charming incubus of a boyfriend did try to placate her with compliments, it changed little about her opinion on the matter.
On the other hand, emerald irises would then travel to scan the golden eyed man by her side once again to take note of the outfit he selected for himself. There was almost no doubt that the costume of an alluring vampire was fitting for him. Of course, she might not have agreed when they had first met, the dark and mysterious vibe that was supposed to be exuded from him not quite fitting with her previous perception of him. As of now though she wouldn't deny how attractive he looked one way or the other, even if she wouldn't say it aloud without the necessary prompting. There was no regret in forcing him to dress up along with her in that respect whatsoever.
Regardless, she'd miss the stolen glimpse towards that costumed tail of hers while she had taken the time to look him over. Once their eyes met again however, she'd huff at his playful assertion. "You're not going to let that go are you?" She'd ask halfheartedly before fluttering shift of a cloak distracted her attention. The warmth that then encompassed her form would serve for her to more than welcome the affectionate gesture though, the corners of her lips teasing upwards as she'd cuddle into his side in turn.
The ginger knew of the plan for tonight, her eyes catching the sight of the rather eerie appearance of the supposed haunted manor in her peripheral vision. She recognized it from the chatter around headquarters and floating rumors that surrounded it. Magically appearing out of nowhere, the attraction got quite a bit of popularity in terms of frightening those that had visited. None of that would have been a problem that would have raised much fuss for the rangers, had it not been for the rumors of disappearing visitors and others being found in a comatose state. It wasn't a big enough deal currently to have the rangers officially act of course, the proof of such marginal to nonexistent so far.
Thus the commissioner didn't think much on them being more than hype talk, despite the dubious background of those that organized it. This visit was purely due to what she assumed was idle curiosity considering Adrian was highly doubtful in the house's ability to particularly scare her, or really him as well for that matter. Perhaps she was being too confident, but Adrien never seemed to be much of a person for such thrill seeking and so she'd question this nonetheless, "Remind me why we're here again?"

"Remind me why we're here again?" Eyes shifted back from the haunted attraction to his lover by his side who had, by now, snuggled closer to him. A mocking smile would surface on his lips as he’d meet her gaze. “What? Don’t tell me you’re scared,” He’d tease, confident and well-aware that a haunted house probably didn’t bother the woman. That didn’t stop him from commenting, however.
Regardless of what her response was, the man would then wave away any retort made by the ginger and offer her a more honest response. “Mm, I heard it’s worth it. Besides, you hate parties so I needed to get you dressed up for something,” He’d shrug a shoulder as the smile sobered, eyes looking over her again. A momentary pause was observed before eyes lit up again, “But hey! I had a plan this time,” He’d grin as if he had accomplished something, which he had seeing how the man hadn’t ever come up with a concrete plan for their dates.
The doors of the haunted house would soon open and people exited the premises – although Adrien could’ve sworn more than entered. Either way, the ride attendee would soon gesture the couple towards the doors of the mansion. A chill emanated from within the premises as the man would step into the dark manor. A huff escaped the male as he’d barely be able to see his way, even with the doors still open behind them.
IT'S THE SAME OLD STORY BUT YOU NEVER GET IT RIGHT
The smile and the derisive tease was met with a dismissive scoff, the ginger not willing to give her boyfriend the satisfaction of an answer. There was no way he actually thought that and in case he did there was a slight nudge into his side from her elbow. "You wish," she'd curtly remark with a keen eye on his expression to see if he'd react to her statement. There was no way that the woman was going to act scared if he had indeed aimed to scare her, but she was somewhat interested in knowing if that was his intention.
Regardless, once her words were waved off by the golden eyed vampire, his provided explanation proved to be more developed and reasonable. While she wondered where her boyfriend could have possibly heard and thought that visiting a haunted house would be any degree of worthwhile, there was some appreciation for the consideration towards her disdain for social events like parties. He wasn't wrong in that respect and she was happy that he understood that, but it didn't stop her from being somewhat perplexed. "Right..." she mumbled lowly, not planning on arguing his reasoning. Truthfully if had wanted her to dress up, he could have asked without the need for an excuse to go out. If she had the choice of wearing such an outfit for Adrien's eyes only then perhaps she would have been more lenient in doing so. Then again, it was also possible that she'd refuse if they were staying indoors anyway because she figured there wouldn't be a need.
Thus she kept silent on the matter aside from that word of comprehension, letting the silence form between them until the merry outburst was had. With the already light mood between them, Adrian moved her hand to her lips to stifle the laugh that was forming. Of course it only went so far as hints of her amusement sounded softly in the night air. "Well there's that at least. Good job, sweetie." Returning the smile that she had received, the ginger took satisfaction in the time that they were spending together. It wasn't long until the duo had reached the front of the downtrodden building and the ranger couldn't have cared less as people began exiting from the house amidst her thoughts.
Once they had been gestured inside, a breath of frigid air had permeated through Adrian's skin upon entering despite the warmth that was shared with her by her lover. A shiver ran up her spine that she attributed to that cold sensation they had experienced, suppressing the instinctive thought that it could have been danger of any sort. It didn't mean she didn't keep her guard up, the green eyed ranger being as attentive as ever, but there wasn't as much tension that should have flowed through her; at least never when Adrien was around to hold her like he was now. "That's... one word for it." Supplying that hesitant reply, the woman cast her gaze further into the dark depths of the manor. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to see and distinguish much more than her partner did.

The sharp voice that had caught onto his murmur caused Adrien to flinch momentarily, his head turning to search the darkness for the source. Nothing. As if on cue, the doors would follow as they slammed shut behind him, perhaps an indication that their tour had begun. "Huh, let's go," He'd murmur quietly, his sole eye focused on finding some light source in the unusually dense and dark manor. Through the corridors, the couple's footsteps would resonate over the old wooden planks. While it seemed that it was just the two of them, the feeling of being watched couldn't be shrugged off. "Isn't it too dark..?." He'd complain, slightly frustrated at the fact that they were sent in without as much as a flashlight. Without adequate lighting to guide them, Adrien would outstretch his arm to his side and plant his palm upon the wall as they moved, careful as to avoid anything that may get in their way.
It was not long before the corridor widened and a faint light came into view from the father end of the corridor. His eye narrowed as it'd focus on the dull illumination, unable to make sense of what the table exactly possessed. All the Galactic admin could tell was it felt as if the source was beckoning him towards it. With his arm still draped over Adrian, quiet footsteps would make their way to the light source as if mesmerized by the object at rested on the small table. And he was, for anything the ginger would interject with would go on deaf ears.
Gradually, the temperatures began to drop and a chill enveloped him despite the layers of clothing he wore. Eyes became heavy-lidded and instinctively, as if to protect, his hold around his lover tightened and he'd pull her closer. His conscience warned against approaching the table, yet he couldn't help but walk towards it. He'd walked until his legs carried him. "Tch..." He'd stumble a bit, his grip on his girlfriend now weakening before he staggered to one side. "I think...I'm..." And then eyes tiredly blink once, and the again, and then the third time -- Thud.
The man's frame had collapsed.
Eyes flickered open as a cool breeze awoke the Arkwright male, amber irides setting themselves on the streets of Celestic. He was standing in a plaze as people went about their daily business. Adrien's brows furrowed momentarily, unable to recall why he was back at his hometown. 'Work?' He'd ask himself, a hand running through his cobalt strands in mild confusion, glancing at the various faces that inundated the streets. "Ah..." He'd pause as his hand would stop and come to touch his eye-patch -- one that was nonexistent and his vision seemingly cured entirely. "It...healed?," He'd murmur to himself, perplexed but pleasantly surprised nonetheless. There wasn't any recollection of the minutes prior, only that he was here and that he was supposed to here with someone...
Someone...
"Adrian!" He'd exclaim in both realization and as a request, eyes turning to settle on the vermilion beauty approaching from behind. She remained quiet with a petite smile surfacing on her lips. Gold irides settled on her visage and then lowered to her garment. She wore an elegant knee-length dress with laces which looked amazing on her. The cobalt-haired male would only grin as hands intertwined with hers, unfazed by the fact that she wore something she usually loathed. "You look lost. Is something the matter, sweetie?" The woman by his side would ask softly as she'd place her hand on his shoulder and plant a soft kiss on his lips. His lips arched upward at her gesture, a slight hue of red surfacing on his feature at her initiation of such an act.
"Uh, It's nothing," He'd shrug it off unable to quite remember what worried him earlier. The admin only knew he felt elated as every moment passed and every worry that plagued him would dissipate. But as to why he was here... "Let's go?" The feminine figure would speak up with purpose as she'd lead him through the streets. "Where?" Asked as he'd follow as they'd weave through the streets and into a quieter lane. The ginger wouldn't answer and the male was only left to stare at Vermillion strands as he'd quietly follow. Looking away from her and to their apparent destination, he'd furrow his brows at the sight of a dark establishment at the far end of the lane. "Adrian?"
Somehow this seemed familiar, yet so...
This time she'd tilt her head over her shoulder and giggle softly at his oblivious spell. Her demeanour was oddly alluring and he couldn't help but smile like an idiot at that.
IT'S THE SAME OLD STORY BUT YOU NEVER GET IT RIGHT
The laughter had brought the woman's disinterested eyes upwards to scan the darkness, not heeding the fact that the disembodied voice that had spoken had addressed their statements appropriately. Her efforts had failed to result in much of anything however as she'd end up unable to distinguish the source. The abrupt jarring slam behind the two on the other hand did bring the ginger to reactively turn her head to look over her shoulder at the doors behind them. "Yeah," she answered approvingly upon hearing her lover's voice. As the two walked further into the dense dark corridors, the occasional creaking noise of the weak floorboards below them breaking prolonged periods of silence, the ranger couldn't ignore her strong impulse to keep her guard raised. Her muscles were tensed and her eyes kept darting around the room as if her senses were anticipating danger to strike, which was unusual for the normally aloof woman unless there was some degree of danger nearby.
While she couldn't see much, the source of comfort beside her had served to quell some of her unease as he guided the way onwards. He had yet to release her from his hold and she was wordlessly thankful for it, keeping close as the warmth from his unneeded protection had her cede to following whatever direction he chose to go without complaint. So far the so called haunted house was far from fearsome with none of the usual scares appearing as opposed to their silent wanderings through the interior. She hardly believed that with such dark lighting that they would be able to see any scares that were attempted, which dampened the point as her vampiric partner pointed out. "There has to be some source of light somewhere," she reasoned. Of course they could have cheated and brought out one of their pokemon to help light the way, but it undoubtedly ruined whatever point that organizers were trying to achieve.
With lowered eyelids blinking away a slow second, a gentle light eventually came to emanate in the distance. At that there was immediate hesitance from ranger to approach, her mind reasoning that this was too convenient, but her body wouldn't listen to that rational. Something had overpowered her, overtaken her usually defiant will as she walked alongside Adrien towards the unknown object that lured them in like a siren catching prey. That was until she felt the grip of her lover tightening around her shoulders. There she released a breath of air that condensed into a puff of fog that dissipated in front of the ginger, bringing her to realize how much less energy she felt in her body than when she had first arrived. Her eyes lowered then shifted to the man next to her make note of his drooping eyes as well. "Adrien... I think..." she was fighting to deliver these words of warning, to implore him to resist the weariness with her voice. Personally combating her eyes to keep them open as she tried to focus on speaking out, she somehow managed a few more as Adrien had come to stumble, bringing her along with him as she took a faltering step forward to keep her precarious balance intact.
Yet it somehow felt too late.
She didn't register those last few words that her lover mustered, establishing too late all the implications that led to the obvious conclusion. "this was a..." her voice trailed along with her train of thought. Her boyfriend had since stopped talking and it wouldn't take her long to realize that they were both weren't going to make it to that light ahead of them. Her vision blurred and at those final moments, her focus was found not upon the item in front of her but the man beside her as the weight of her body could no longer be sustained. "Sh...it..." the low grunt came right before the fall of the vermilion haired ranger, a soft thump resulting as it echoed in the otherwise still manor.
It was the restless clamor of the civilians around her that brought emerald eyes to flicker to life, the haze that came with nodding off readily apparent to the ranger as she rose her head upwards. That was unlike her - to fall asleep in the middle of the day - though she brushed off that thought in favor of regaining her bearings. Immediately the woman had glanced around, taking note of the non distinctive faces of those that had passed her by as she focused on any landmarks or details that gave away her location in the unknown area. She figured that it wouldn't take her long to do so and remind herself why she was here once she figured that out, but upon taking in her surroundings her brows took to scrunching together instead. "What the... where am I?" Her lips pursed into a fine line, her mind trying to unravel the mysteries of her presence in whatever town this was. What was it she was doing before this? All she was able to manage however was a fuzzy recollection of warmth and comfort though.
... Warmth and comfort.
"Adrian!"
The call of her name brought the ranger to immediately turn towards where she heard that familiar voice, realizing that Adrien must have been somewhere nearby when her peripheral vision caught glimpse of fluttering of a dress escaping her line of vision. She wasn't sure why she made note of that as she spared a moment to watch the redhead take light steps away into the crowd, but it ranger exhaled softly as the stranger stopped in front of whoever they intended to meet there. An indifferent gaze followed the recipient of those strangely delicate words, attempting to look past them with the intention of finding her own boyfriend rather than lingering in someone else's business...
Which was when she realized who the woman was talking to.
A sharp breath was taken upon witnessing the liplock made between the cobalt haired man and the red haired woman in front of her, a thorn piercing through her chest as recognition set in instantaneously. Her lips parted to leave her mouth agape in speechlessness, unable to shift away from the sight of her lover kissing another that undoubtedly wrenched at her heartstrings. The dismissive response that came afterwards served to reinforce the ginger's insecurity, her eyes widening as a fist was subconsciously clenched to her side. How could he? Adrian was just inches away from the thought of screaming at her lover when the redhaired woman would turn to the side slightly to fetch a hold of his hand.
"What?" A breathless murmur as emerald eyes scanned the figure of the one leading Adrien away, disbelievingly squinting at the features she was able to distinguish before they began to walk off. "... is that me?" It was impossible, unthinkable to believe, but it was hard to deny the sight of her face when it was used against her will. Yet once the two had begun to depart, the forsaken ginger didn't waste any time following suit to trail them. She couldn't hear what they were saying afterwards, many of those non distinctive faces from before now deterring her from catching up to the duo as the walked off, but that wouldn't stop her from screaming with a mix of anger and desperation in her inflection upon hearing a disgusting giggle lingering in the air as if meant to taunt her. "Adrien!!"
