witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
welcome to the first ever battle cup tournament! set up along the beaches of sandgem are multiple areas that have been turned into small battlefields; sandy terrain with patches of water spread across to support water types. the battlefield stretches no longer than 50 meters. two trainers stand at the end of each side of the battlefield, a crowd gathering at the side cheering and waiting patiently, and soon enough, an umpire would gain your attention.[break][break]

Despite being a pokemon trainer, Dakota usually didn’t battle very much. This was a special occasion, however, as he was supposed to write an article about this event. Since it had been quite some time since he had been in any sort of tournament, he figured he might as well participate as well. At least it was a nice day out, he mused as he glanced around the beach. The atmosphere was almost intoxicating, the cheers from the crowd getting his blood pumping as an infectious grin pulled at his lips. He couldn’t help but feel excited, truthfully.
“Good luck,” he called out cheerfully to the young woman he had been paired against, waving briefly as well before he pulled out one of his pokeballs. “Alright, guys, let's do this,” he muttered to himself mostly as he tossed his three pokeballs out at once, bringing forth his whole team. He waited for his opponent to get out her pokemon as well, not seeming to care too much about what it was. “Knuckles, agility then screech. Tails, agility twice, build up your speed! And Eggman, use eerie impulse and then sonic boom on the one closest to you,” Dakota yelled out loud enough for his pokemon to hear, which nodded before complying.
Kunckles' speed would increase considerably before it would lower the defense of the opponent significantly, Tails would become drastically faster, and then Eggman lowered the special defense of the opponent before firing off a sonic boom on the one closest to it. For now, he didn’t seem concerned with attacking full force, more concerned with preparing for a longer battle instead of ending things quickly.

@DAKOTA HARTH Used Confuse Ray and Shadow Claw on Eggman. Ability; Technician increases the power of moves which have a power of 60 or less by 1.5×. Used Screech and Fury Swipes (18 power) on Eggman. Used Brine and Icy Wind on Ponyta.
Ophelia had been a bit hesitant to throw her name into the upcoming battle cup. She had always been rather skeptical of these things, having watched them for years. Trainer versus trainer battles always seemed a wee odd to her. Why send pokemon out to bash each other endlessly in a hope to win some sort of prize? It seemed like a massive waste of time and resources. Yet, she was here.
As she was ushered onto the field, a wave of nervousness washed over her. until she saw her opponent. She took a moment to size him up, glaring him down from across the field, ignoring his wave and call for good luck. Ophelia didn't need luck, she just needed to win. Her whole motivation for entering this was simply because, why not? Why not win, right? It wasn't like she had much to do anyway. Her new team hadn't contacted her yet, and she was simply waiting for anything. Why not join a stupid battle cup to waste time and possibly gain the attention of her new employer.
Although Dakota's cheerfulness had annoyed the woman, she was pleased to see there was no hesitance to start the battle. He had chosen a triple battle, something Ophelia had only ever seen on TV. The nerves that had ebbed away moments ago returned as she questioned her own ability. No time to hesitate however, she threw her three pokeballs up into the air.
Out came Sableye, Meowth and her recently caught Cubchoo. Just in time to take the oncoming attacks. All three pokemon covered their ears and whined as Knuckles used a screech then proceeded to watch as the Taillow ramped up its' speed. So enthralled with the movement, little Meowth hadn't seen Eggman launched sonic boom, taking the full blow of the attack.
Ophelia shook her head at both her unaware opponent and her own pokemon. Unlike Dakota, Ophelia's plan was to hit hard and fast. Her plan was to spam attacks as quick as she could to get ahead.
"Sableye, use confuse ray on Eggman! Then follow up with a shadow claw!" Ophelia ordered.
Next, she looked at Meowth. At least his ability, technician would be useful for this battle. "Meowth, use screech as well, then fury swipes on Eggman as well!"
Now Ophelia turned to Cubchoo who had been awaiting orders. A mean smirk crossed her face as she looked at the Ponyta. She hoped the type advantage would take down the pokemon quickly. "Cubchoo, use brine on that Ponyta! Follow it up with an icy wind to freeze it!"
“Eggman, keep rolling! Dodge whatever you can,” Dakota called out, only to watch with his gut twisting uncomfortably as his voltorb narrowly avoided the confuse ray and then was hit with a shadow claw and its defense was lowered before a series of furry swipes hit it as well. Eggman was on its last leg already, and it made him nervous.
“Tails, move it,” he called out, a bit relieved when the Ponyta had built up enough speed to dodge the brine with relative ease, but then it was hit with the larger area of effect of the icy wind, where both her and Treecko’s speed were lowered a little since he was closest. While it hardly hurt his fire type, it damaged the grass type considerably more severely. “Take down that Cubchoo! Knuckles, use a screech on it and then use giga drain. Eggman, stay in the back and use sonic boom. Tails, go in with a a flare blitz ,” Dakota ordered his pokemon, which obeyed without a moment of hesitation. He knew the recoil would hurt Tails some if it hit, but not nearly as bad as the ice type would be injured.
Treecko screeched at the ice bear before attempting to drain the ice type and heal himself slightly in the process. The heavily injured Voltorb remained back behind its teammates and shot off another sonic boom, this time at the Cubchoo. Right after, Tails rushed in with a speed that Dakota was proud of, fire covering her body as she charged right into the small bear.

Ophelia scowled and cursed under her breathe as the Ponyta dodged the water attack with ease. She should have known the fire type had a higher dodge rate after it's repeat agility in the beginning. The woman realized she should have taken into account Dakota's starting moves, realizing that perhaps it hadn't been the worst idea to prep her pokemon with move altering effects.
The next barrage of attacks made Ophelia curse out loud. Before she could even attempt to get Cubchoo to dodge, she was hit with her opponent's attacks. One after another, the poor ice pokemon didn't stand a chance. "Goddammit Cubchoo." Ophelia said angrily, as the little bear staggered back once it had finished and fell flat on her face, clearly fainted.
The woman detached the third pokeball on her belt and recalled the fallen ice type. Now it was two against three, so Ophelia decided to take out the weakest target; the Voltorb who was hanging back to even her odds.
"Alright guys, we're taking down that Voltorb." Ophelia said, looking at both her Meowth and Sableye who were awaiting orders. "Sableye, feint attack! Follow it up with another shadow claw. Meowth use another screech and follow up with a bite. Let's take down that Voltorb!"
With Eggman being singled out and already horribly damaged as is, Dakota knew that the poor Voltorb hardly stood a chance. “Dodge them, Eggman,” he yelled out in desperation, only to watch in horror as his pokemon was taken down from the onslaught. “I’ll get you patched up, buddy,” he muttered quietly as he withdrew the voltorb to its pokeball, where the knocked out Eggman could reside protected until he reached a Pokecenter to heal. That would definitely be his first stop, after this round ended.
“Tails, build up more speed and then stomp on Meowth,” he commanded, the horse pokemon immediately using agility again before running at Meowth and using the built up speed to stomp hard and fast on the same opponent. He had picked his target easily enough, planning on going for the target that was the most wounded. “Knuckles, you use agility, too, and then giga drain on Meowth,” the blonde quickly followed up with his order for his other remaining pokemon, hoping that Treecko could heal a little more from the super effective icy wind earlier.
Knuckles sped around the beach as well, having a bit easier time on the sand than the hooved Ponyta, and he then was quick to try draining Meowth to restore more of his own health. Dakota’s style was likely becoming more obvious, as he continued focusing on the speed of his team.
the sound of a bell would signify the end of the battle, the screams of the crowd cheering you on as the battle came to a close. up from his seat the umpire went, megaphone in his hand ready to announce the victor.[break][break]
