major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
when he heard that there was a lunar festival event back in floaroma he traveled back there. it sounded like an event he would enjoy; lanterns, music, food. he decided to delay the challenge for the third gym, deciding that he needed his milotic with him. she was stolen from him, and now he was looking for revenge.
the festival had already begun by the time he arrived. it was about nine and the town was alive. people gathered at the town square to celebrate and to have fun. but he was here on other business.
he texted the girl prior to tell her that he was going to be here and also to ask her to join him here. he took out his phone again to send her another message.
'i'm here where u @ show urself u thief'
it was all fun and games, really; he didn't mind that she took his milotic, just as long as she had plans to return it. he stopped by a stall to pick up a drink before taking a seat on a bench, away from the crowd.
Soaring through the sky on a Staravia is a lot harder than it looks. Lena is forced to be carried by the straps of her bag as Lancer struggled through the air-- if only he'd evolve. A staraptor could do this effortlessly, and yet here she was in the worst seat possible. She would have enjoyed it more had she not been terrified for her life the entire time. Unfortunately, this festival was a priority. She had seen signs for weeks, and it only made sense that she go. Especially since Liam said he wanted his battle there instead of Eterna. Inconvenient, but doable. Mostly.
The smell of flowers and the sights of booths come into view. She smiles in excitement as Lancer banks down-- a certain male figure comes into view. "That's right Lancer, right on him." Liam was not going to get this Milotic back easily; the profound amount of shit he would have to deal with might make him rethink even asking. Lancer lowers Lena to a safe distance off the ground before he releases the girl, leaving her to stumble right into the galactic spy with gleeful joy. She figures he'll be a nice way to break her fall as Lancer circles above, stretching its now weightless wings after releasing its burden.
"I'm heeereee~ Gotta battle me if you want your baby back!"
there he was, being peaceful as always just sipping away at his drink when something crashed into him. he stumbled forward, managing to stop himself from falling over but the casualty of that was the loss of his drink. the drink spilling over the grass as he regained his footing.
"why are you so heavy," he laughed. normally he would have been more upset at someone if they literally used him as cushion for their landing. he stretched a bit before finally turning to look at the girl.
"nice of you to finally show up. i've been waiting forever," he said. he looked at the spilled drink and pouted slightly, letting his hands slide into his pocket.
the galactic spy was dressed casually; a simple white shirt and pants. it got a bit chilly during nighttime in sinnoh but he could handle it.
"i'll battle you, thief," he chuckled, taking out two pokeballs. he gestured over to the side where there was nothing going on, and the land was big enough to battle safely without bothering anyone.
he walked over and tossed the two pokeballs out in the air, calling out his trevenant and the newly evolved excadrill.
"I'm not heavy, you just have no muscle" she scoffs, sliding off of him and onto her feet. She barely notices he lost his drink, and chooses to ignore that she did upon realizing. Apologizing sucked, and feigning ignorance was always easier than admitting she made a mistake. "Literally forever? Like.. forever?" she says obviously, letting her hair down from the pony tail it had been in for the flight. She was dressed nicer than usual today-- festive, almost. She most definitely fit in, that was for sure. "I'm no thief! It was job security" she grins, holding the shrunken pokeball between two fingers to show it off in front of him. She tucks it back into her bag with a sadistic grin. "You can have that back as your last pokemon in our battle. Makes you have to commit." Truth be told she's picking a fight with a big dog, but it would be uncharacteristic of her not to.
Liam knows she has no patience to wait-- Lena eagerly takes her place on the battlefield, loosing two of her own pokemon; the classics. A starter and a regional flying type. Toad is the only one who needs to be released, while Lancer simply lands on the field next the ivysaur. She sticks her tongue out at him. "I'm a winner at heart. Lancer, prepare for aerial assault! Toad, use what's left of the sun!" She remains vague intentionally with the hopes to distract the Galactic. She figures he'll spend the time figuring out what the hell he's in for instead of his own attacks-- a long shot, but it never hurts to try. Lancer leaves the dirt in one fell swoop, circling around above the haunted tree, body doubling rapidly as the double team makes its illusions. The shadows on the ground show a flock of staravia above the battle, yet only one will be dealing damage. Toad digs deep and braces himself, releasing green spores into the air before his blooming flower slightly parting as he collects the last rays of the sun before it falls behind the clouds. Lena didn't ask for the sleep powder, but she was happy with it regardless. Putting the opponent to sleep first was a classic move that she had found great joy in, and this battle was no exception.
staravia - 20 - 100% used double team! high in the sky! one of treventant's attacks will miss
the girl even teases him by showing him milotic's pokeball. had she not been so far away he might have attempted to just snatch it out of her hands, but doing that would meant that he was scared of battling, which he wasn't, not yet.
soon enough the battle begun and the two pokemon she called out were not new, but they did look stronger, which made liam panic a little bit. even more so when the girl ordered them to attack but didn't mention what moves they were to use. "what?" he called out.
"stop using sneaky tactics," he scoffed as he analyzed the two pokemon, trying to figure out exactly what it was going to do. the bird circled the tree and it didn't take long for him to realize that it was trying to improve its evasion.
"oh my god," he muttered as he watched the ivysaur put the mole pokemon to sleep. liam rushed forward, not wanting to make the same mistake as he did last time and used a full heal on the mole.
"quick, use rock slide," he whispered to the excadrill before turning to the ghost tree to give it orders too. "leech seed then feint attack," he said, not keeping it vague like his opponent did. it didn't take long for the excadrill to fully wake up. it slashed at the ground, sending chunks of rock flying towards the bird and also the grass pokemon.
the tree took a more relaxed approach, first sending out pods of seeds towards the ivysaur instead of the bird. it quickly followed that by vanishing, reappearing underneath the bird and delivering a jab to the bird.
"what have you been feeding them? they got stronger so fast..." he called out across the battlefield, both curious and also an attempt to distract her.
trevenant - lvl26 - 100% - leech seed on ugly green thing - feint attack on bird (100% accuracy)
excadrill - lvl32 - 100% - full heal - rock slide on both (30% flinch) LENA RUDDY
Only slightly smug as she catches him off guard, Lena holds her head with her hands on her hips as her staravia is protected from the rock slide in the sky; the bird dive-bombs the ghost-tree once the Excadrill has made its move, double team creating the illusion of multiple birds coming in for the kill on the Trevenant. It's a fast, high-powered killing machine with relentless talons and energy. Even with the impending feint attack Lancer dives strong, refusing to flinch in the face of danger. He's a true bird of prey, going in for the kill and getting out, if not with some damage. "Get back up there!" Lena reminds him. The bird weakly flaps its wings in place post-hit before shaking off the attack and returning straight back into the sky to prepare for another fly.
Meanwhile, the ground front isn't so kind to Ivysaur. The rock slide has him battered and bruise, while Trevenant's leech seed has him tangled in life-sucking weeds that compromise his well-being and ability to battle. The solar beam has charged, but time is running out. Lena sees the flower on his back reach its full energy point as the grass pokemon pushes itself to its feet, flat teeth gritting as it works through the pain. "Aim!" The cannon points toward its target- Lena can only hope the Excadrill is still enthused with its digging- "Fire!" The beam of light releases itself at mach speeds in a linear direction, heading straight for the Excadrill and, if it dodges, anything behind it. It's sinister. Lena knows their spot is cut off from the festival, but what's to stop a stray child..? Lena does her best to keep her face under control-- he can't see her enjoying this, not yet. Not until she gets to rub it in his face later. She sprays the Ivysaur with a super potion as he cools down from the attack, though the leech seed is almost as relentless as she is. Lena can only stop it from switching the Ivysaur out-- and he would never allow her to do so. For a grass type to escape the move of another grass type would just make him angry at her later. Depending on the rest of the battle, it may be a risk she has to take.
"Standard pokemon food, and some table scraps" she grins, hands clasping in front of her. "I'm so glad you've noticed! Don't worry, we haven't used Milotic as target practice... that much~" At all, actually.
What is she, some kind of sadist? Of course not.
staravia - 20 - 52% staravia is in the sky! rock slide does not hit! (continued from last post 1 of 2; we can talk if it's complicated since rp makes this a little harder) staravia used fly [on trevenant]! (part 2 of 2) staravia is hit by feint attack upon landing! staravia used fly! staravia is circling above (part 1 of 2)
ivysaur - 27 - 95% hit by leech seed! - 5% (more or less idk?) hit by rock slide! [32/100 no flinch] ivysaur used solar beam [on excadrill]! ivysaur was hurt by leech seed! -5% lena used 1 super potion on ivysaur ivysaur was hurt by leech seed! -5%
the bird was constantly in the air which made it extra difficult for either attacks to hit. but liam had a plan, and he hoped the girl wouldn't see through it. but the bird had to come down eventually, so the trevenant was alright just waiting to take the hit. "hold strong," he said to the trevenant.
he only had to focus on the excadrill for now. the solar beam hit strong and sent the excadrill back a few spaces, but it wasn't nearly enough to faint it. "hone claws then rock slide!" he yelled out. quickly sharpening its claws the excadrill then repeated the same move again, slashing at the ground. it wouldn't hit the bird but liam was only concerned about the ivysaur.
"feint attack again when the bird comes down," he told the trevenant, who nodded and dug into the ground with its roots, preparing to take a hit. liam guessed that the attack wouldn't be enough to faint it.
"you better not have used her as target practice," he shook his head, a bit worried that she might have been telling the truth. he had to win this battle, to get the milotic back .
"i didn't think you were one of those trainers who uses potions," he laughed.
trevenant - lvl26 - 56% - hit by fly (-54%) - leech seed heals 5% - leech seed heals 5% - waits for bird - feint attack on bird - feint attack on bird
excadrill - lvl32 - 63% - hit by solar beam (-37%) - hone claws +1 atk - rock slide on both LENA RUDDY
"Don't stop moving for one second, Lancer!" she calls up the raptor, his wings casting a shadow much bigger than himself over the Trevenant. Lena can only brace herself for the inevitable and put her confidence in her little monster. She can only pray he's competent enough to dodge at least one attack.
Three.
Two.
One.
It's hardly his last move, but every hit matters. He knows that, she knows that-- hell, even Liam probably knows it. Lancer's previous double team still gives him the necessary speed boost to arrive at the haunted tree pokemon, talons extended and aiming for the holes in the trunk where the things eyes should have been had it been alive. It's not a dive bomb this time around, it's a kill strike. Lancer aims to be in the process of gouging the wood that makes up his opponent's body as a feint attack knocks him away.
"Focus!"
Lena is getting worked up. Her heart beats faster, her fists clench as she can only watch, helpless, from the sides. The Staravia swoops over and under the next attack, barely getting away with its remaining life. The battered bird looks broken when it lands in front of her-- feathers ruffled, wings out, panting. Lena only scowls and ignores it-- she'll take care of him later. Her main concern is the second rock slide that Toad had taken in Lancer's moments of incompetence. She's running out of options. Tick by tick, Toad's health goes to Trevenant, hit by hit the Excadrill makes an even more devastating mark than before. "To sleep" Lena tries to speak gently, but the words are forced through pursed lips and grating teeth. Toad wobbles to keep himself standing straight-- always resilient. Sleep powder spores are blown toward the Excadrill once more-- Lena is out of time. She has to put one of her pokemon on the line no matter what. A second super potion impacts the battle field- to Lancer. Toad is too stubborn to take it when she tries. The Ivysaur will battle on and fall as he is supposed to, and who is she to betray his wishes? The Staravia quickly preens himself and flies back to his position on the field, staying above ground with every flap of his wings.
It only occurs to her then that the white noise behind the battle was Liam himself speaking. Lena's ears feel like they're ringing, whether it be from adrenaline or stress. She only stares- no smile, no nod.
"What?"
staravia - 20 - 100% staravia is in the sky! rock slide does not hit! staravia used fly [on trevenant]! (part 2 of 2) staravia is hit by feint attack upon landing! -48 staravia dodges feint attack!

the battling was getting more and more tense as time ticked on. the pokemon were evenly matched which made the battle that much harder. this was a total opposite from their battle before, and liam couldn't decide if he was scared or impressed.
he watched on as she used another super potion, this time on the bird instead. he knew she had to sacrifice one of them, and it looked like the green dinosaur chose for her.
he noticed how concentrated the girl was too, and how much she wanted to win. he could hear it in her voice when she spoke. she was so invested that she even zoned him out completely. he almost felt bad for what he was about to do next, but he wanted to get mira back. and if he just blatantly let her win she would most likely notice.
he took out two things from his bag, a super potion and a full heal. he sprayed it onto the trevenant and then the excadrill respectively. yeah, he felt pretty bad about doing that. he could have let her taken down one there but he feared that her other pokemon might be even stronger than the two, and swablu was new to battling.
"are you okay?" he called out. he was worried. he was also worried about the well-being of his and her pokemon. the green dinosaur looked like it was about to faint. and so liam gave it mercy.
"just use hone claws and wait. fifteen, poison jab at the bird," he ordered. the now healthy trevenant jumping forward to deliver a jab at the bird, its arm coated with purple ooze. the excadrill was a bit confused by the order but did as was told, sharpening its claws and just standing there waiting.
"you should recall your ivysaur," he said, crossing his arms as he spoke. this wasn't going to end well for either party.
trevenant - lvl26 - 100% - hit by fly (-54%) - leech seed heals 5% - leech seed heals 5% - leech seed heals 5% - super potion - poison jab at bird
excadrill - lvl32 - 63% - atk+1 - full heal - hone claws atk+1 LENA RUDDY
Her heartbeat is a countdown. "Put them to sleep, now". Toad knows. He's trying. He's trying his hardest-- his fire burns as brightly as his trainer's. The excadrill awakens- he only glares, more spores entering the air. The leech seed hits him like an electric shock, making him fall to his figurative knees. Thump. There's still more time. Red eyes shoot daggers at the Trevenant who seems to be all too focused on his companion. The Ivysaur lets loose another sleep powder-- the air is thick with the spores, and Lena is forced to hold her breath. When she looks down her pokemon has fainted, the will to keep going gone. Lena ignores Liam's concern.
"He wasn't done. Now he is."
Well, not gone. Forced out of him. She recalls him without a word, releasing Pumpkin in his place. Only a little stronger than before, but more focused, less cuddly. The skunk seems more put-together, more battle-ready. And yet, it looks at Lena with that excited little face. Her stare changes its mind-- this is obviously no time to place. The stunky shakes itself off, fur bristling, tail raising as it prepares for the defensive.
Lancer's evasiveness comes into handy now, the bird able to swoop out of the way of the toxic branch coming straight for its midline. It finds protection in the air, using fly to get away from the tree once more. Blue eyes follow the bird as it times its descent, while Pumpkin proudly takes the field, filling it with a smokescreen. Black haze limits the field's view to the outside world-- Lancer will be going in blind. Lena can only hope that he's made his mark, and fast.
staravia - 20 - 100% staravia evasiveness: +1 dodges poison jab! uses fly! in the sky! 1/2
ivysaur - 28 - 0% used sleep powder! sapped by leech seed! used sleep powder! sapped by leech seed! fainted! +1 level hit 28! learned growth [replaces vine whip].
the girl was flat out ignoring his concerns, not even recalling the ivysaur back. this was worrying, to say the least. the ivysaur finally fainted but not before it got off another sleep powder. liam was out of full heals and he really did not want to swap excadrill since it would lose the buffs it had.
"wake up!" he yelled at his team. but it was no use. the stunky then filled up the battlefield with smoke. lucky for liam that neither of his pokemon took any damage that turn.
there was nothing else he could do this turn. both pokemon were asleep and he was out of full heals. nothing could be done to the bird in the sky and liam assessed that the skunk was not going to be a problem.
"he was done from the moment you called him out," he replied.
She offers a weak smile, obviously not genuine. "I'd say he got pretty far." After all, Toad had left behind two still, sleeping targets, ripe for the taking. Staravia takes the dive through the smokescreen, fly allowing it to crash into the dead tree with lightning speed. One circle around and the flying type's wing attack digs deep; Lancer continues to give this damn thing his full effort.
"Go help." Lena nudges the stunky from behind, watching as the thing skitters off into battle. Stunky runs into the thick of the smokescreen, the smell of toxic sludge amplified in the black cloud as the sludge bombs fire off in succession on the Trevenant. Lena almost wants to be cocky, but the sleeping excadrill is a reminder that she has absolutely no space to celebrate this small victory. Ivysaur is down, and it's taking two of her pokemon to attack the ghost-type. She doesn't look at her opponent, she only leers into the fog of battle.
staravia - 20 - 100% used fly on trevenant! used wing attack on trevenant!
stunky - 20 - 100% used sludge bomb on trevenant! (30% chance of poison) used sludge bomb on trevenant! (30% chance of poison)
the ghost tree was the victim of the assaults that came from the enemy, both pokemon hitting it. it didn't survive, fainting after the stunky's final attack. liam recalled it, whispering a sorry as it came back. he wasn't expecting the girl to gang up on one pokemon.
this wasn't fair. but then again, was the battle ever really going to be fair? his pokemon were ahead in terms of experience and levels. but watching the ghost tree get bullied like that was saddening.
he called out lis the swablu who he's never actually used before. "hey, protect us with safeguard," he told the bird with a smile, encouraging it. the bird did just that, and the excadrill finally woke up.
"hone claws then dig at the skunk," he told the excadrill, who once again sharpened his claws and dug underneath the ground, staying there for now.
She breaths an obvious sigh of relief as the Trevenant goes down. As long as leech seed was gone, she'd be happy. At least one pokemon was down, albeit with more effort than last time. Liam is still going to beat her ass, but she refuses to just lie there and take it. "Get up and out, Lancer" she has more control to her voice, more sanity. Being successful is one regard is enough to quench her thirst, for now. The Excadrill is going to prove to be an impenetrable wall; one that Lena isn't fully capable of defeating without all six of her pokemon up against it. "Double team while you're there. And you," Pumpkin knows when she's being summoned, "Ruin its plumage." She flashes a quick smile and wink at Liam, only a semblance of her old playful self returning.
The smokescreen is gone, ominously making its way to the forest to dissipate. Two sludge bombs are fired off at the little cotton bird, aiming to swallow the thing whole.
staravia - 22 - 100% used double team! evasiveness +2 used fly! in the sky! (1/2)
stunky - 20 - 100% used sludge bomb on swablu! used sludge bomb on swablu!
with the way the battle was playing out it was turning out to just be a 2v1, with staravia constantly in the sky. liam had no problems with that, he just felt bad to be basically bullying the stunky. pumpkin was its name, wasn't it? he remembered from that night. a small smile across his face as he remembered.
suddenly the excadrill popped out of the ground underneath the stunky, attempting to deliver a dig attack to the stunky. immediately after that it would jump backwards and ready himself for more orders. the swablu on the other hand just took the sludge bomb attacks, not worrying about being poisoned because of safeguard.
"hone claws for now and lis, take down," he ordered. the excadrill sharpened his claws once more, at this point surprised his claws weren't as sharp as knives. swablu did the only physical move it knew besides astonish, flying forward to deliver two take down attacks.
the boy said nothing for now, instead just watching the girl carefully.
