Challenging the Oreburg city gym should have been on his checklist back during his trainer days. Back then, it would be an accomplishment. Now? Just a training crowd. Regardless, testing one's pokemon against a standard gym did help assess his skill.
"Welcome! This is the oreburgh pokémon gym!" A decent enough welcome by the gymleader as he entered the area, but as the hardhatted male continued it became obvious that was parroting a well-reheaesed speech. "I'm Roark, the fir-"
"Adrien. A pleasure," He'd cut the man's dialogue short as he spoke indifferently, taking his position on the opposite side of the arena. Taking the hint, or at least that's what Adrien assumed, the gymleader would equip a pokeball. "The challenger has the first move." He'd beckon as he set out a Geodude. The silverette would only nod as he threw out a pokeball of his own. Twas a Duskull. A decent if not an advantageous match up.
BEGIN!
"Ice beam," Spoken as if performed a hundred times by now (and they really had), the skull face pokemon would lurch forth and prepare a brilliant white sphere of sheer ice. The adversary would only start with stealth rock, the geodude scattering a pleothra of hovering stones around the duskull.
The ghost pokemon would finally deliver the ice beam, inflicting a powerful hit on the opponent. The geodude staggered back, barely keeping conscious when it steadied itself and had a hand dig into the soil and hurled a slab of earth at the ghost type in a rock throw attempt.
The rock throw hit but the duskull was able to shrug it off and finish its opponent off with another ice beam attack. The geodude would collapse and was returned back to its trainer soon after. Next up, Onyx.
"Mm. Repeat. Twice." The silverette would dictate and the ghost type heeded, another ice beam was being prepared. The Onyx would roar and use its massive tail to kick up the earth and hurl another rock throw attack at the ghastly pokemon. Hit again. Weakened but not done. The ice beam struck the earth serpent and had it recoil its neck backward.
"Again,"
A final charged up ice beam ended the onyx and had it crashing down onto the rocky battlefield. "Not bad" A complement by the opposition that was met with silence. And then the final Pokémon; cranidos that was sent out charging at the little duskull with a pursuit attack readied. It hit and being super effective, had the ghost pokemon collapse immediately.
"..." Adrien didn't speak a word as he returned the pokemon. He'd smile however knowing all too well that the ghost pokemon had given its best. Taking out another pokeball, the male's smile turned more mischievous as he eyed his adversary. "Heliolisk," The pokeball was tossed out and as the light faded, a excited heliolisk would prance about the place ready for battle. "Really?" It seemed that the gymleader was equally amused.
"Really." Adrien answered, and then diverted his attention to his pokemon. "Brace yourself." Surely enough, the scattered stealth rock attack would surround and strike the lizard type simultaneously. While the heliolisk had braced itself, it wasn't spared a painful entrance.
"Electrify." Using the Pokémon's speed to his advantage, the lizard type would fay out its frills and direct a seemingly harmless electric pulse at the cranidos. No damage done. It wasn't meant to.
Instead, the headbutt the dinosaur performed would do little damage, only bruising the heliolisk courtesy of being converted into an electric type attack. "Surf" He'd scoff and the heliolisk produced a massive amount of water from its maw and flooded the area. The fossil would struggle to remain on its feet as the attack hit. "And again." The second surf would utterly engulf the dinosaur. Needless to say it didn't survive it.
"Good job," The silverette would stroke the hyperactive pokemon's head as he returned it back to its pokeball.
"The challenger wins." Adrien would just smile as victory came his way, a hand extended out as the gymleader walked across the field and towards him.
