major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
alone. all alone. he can't do it anymore, can't bear the burden of constantly looking over his shoulder hoping, praying that no one would be there; old memories, ghosts, debts that have come to reap. rangers, galactic, adrien. all of it is too much. but he knows exactly what he has to do, knows who he has to sell his soul to in order for him to stand a fighting chance. it's not that complicated, really. all he has to do is to sell his soul to yet another criminal organization.
rocket.
he tells himself it's just for safety, just for protection against those who chase him but in reality he needs the safety to rebuild, to heal and grow again to become something he once strived to become. lost goals, empty missions, no more. he has a clear vision of what he wants to do, what he has to do. he's been fighting a battle from two steps behind, always at a disadvantage. no longer.
he only knows of one rocket contact, the nurse who has healed him on various occasions. he isn't going to drag her into this, not more than he already has. so he goes by himself to a rocket safehouse he knows of, one he knows will be infested with members. he just needs anyone to bring him to their leader, or really to anyone with enough power. he has most things planned out, and hopefully this one works out.
the safehouse is a seemingly empty warehouse near the corner of the city. it's nighttime when he arrives, so he doesn't bother to check his surroundings. he's dressed in a jacket that he hides his head under and a shirt that's ragged and stained. he welcomes the change of temperature; oreburgh being much warmer than snowpoint. he's mostly healed but his limp is still prominent as he approaches the warehouse.
door's locked, but he doesn't let that stop him. he forces his way in, breaking the lock in the process. he lets the door close behind him as eyes scan the room. it's dark, and empty. he slowly walks.

naomi reindhardt was slowly losing her mind.
days and days before she figured of reid's promotion, and long before their engagement or her promotion, she was standing in the abandoned warehouse at oreburgh having just woken up in the middle of the night. she had been dreaming odd dreams lately, though the warehouse didn't help. she had been given night patrol, but ended up telling the rest of the grunts to go home because for one, she didn't like company, and two, she didn't need much help because she doubted there was going to be some kind of break in.
but then she heard the sound a lock shattering, and her eyelids flew open. had she made a mistake? no... this could not have been predicted. there was no one in the warehouse except her. no one had been assigned this place but her. which meant the person across the warehouse was an enemy. transitioning in seconds from sleepy to wide awake, naomi's hand moved quietly and quickly to her belt, the small, jet black shotgun finding its way into her gloves.
the person is walking. she observed from the shadows, waiting for her moment to come. his stance isn't strong, but he might be troublesome to take down. she's reluctant to just kill him, but firing the gun is something she can do. she can probably get a limb down to slow movement and take care of it from there.
the man passes her spot in the darkness, and takes another step forward, walking almost painfully out in the open.
she steps outside and flips the safety at the same time, moving effortlessly behind the man so he doesn't get the chance to see her. nyx isn't taking any risks tonight. the barrel is pointed effortlessly at his back, and she won't hesitate to
"who are you?" she asks, but she already knows that he won't know the correct answer to that one. he's not a rocket. she can practically smell that much, so he won't know what passcode to answer her with. but she asks it anyway, because that is the question regardless.
this is reckless. he's moving in the dark with little to no vision at all in an unknown territory. there's a chance he might just set someone off and get killed for tresspassing. or he might get kidnapped and tortured for information instead. all these concerns, all these worries echo in his head as he takes slow, calculated steps forward. his foot hits something stray on the ground, causing metal to clash as it rolls along. if his presence wasn't known before it definitely is now. no going back.
he walks through the hall and soon passes a spot. he doesn't even hear the safety click or footsteps behind him. all he hears is the sound of a voice which prompts him to stop dead in his tracks. he tenses, freezes because it's painfully clear that he was being held at gunpoint. his heart pounds in his chest but he forces himself to remain calm.
"relax." he says more to himself than to her. he very carefully extends his palms out by his side to show that they're empty. "there's nothing in my hands." he slowly raises them up by his side before holding them up in a gesture most used when held at gunpoint. he breathes slowly.
"my name is liam summers." there was no need to lie, if he wanted to get into rocket they needed to know who he is and more importantly the information he possesses. "i'm going to turn around now. don't shoot me." he lets out a soft exhale before willing himself to turn. he might be turning to meet his fate, to be shot right then and there but he risks it all.

i am the summer breeze. she almost wills him to say it and fulfill the passcode verification, but he doesn't. it takes all she can not to shoot him for his audacity, but naomi's not very quick to anger. that being said, she's also at the limit of her patience for the day and she can only hope that this boy won't test her further. because no one misses strangers who wander into rocket territory, especially not when their bodies are never found, and missing for a day drags on to lost forever. but she suppresses those thoughts and instead regards the boy with a raised eyebrow.
she can't see him clearly, but there's a shaft of moonlight in front of them. "wrong answer," she informs half heartedly, never once lowering the gun. "no. walk into the light first. i want a clear look at you. then you can turn around." naomi doesn't like repeating herself, and expects to be complied. the authority in her tone is practiced; though she's not really the person to enjoy using it, it doesn't show.
given that the boy follows through --if not she'll likely just go for the abdomen to make things simpler-- she breathes out and calms herself down. "it looks like you know where you are, boy." he's not an ordinary trainer, she can tell that much. even for a man at gunpoint, he's far too clam. which makes him more suspicious. but it also rules out the possibility of s silly teen wandering around in the middle of the night. it makes him less of a nuisance and more of a threat.
"don't shoot? give me a reason not to." naomi watches him and takes in his features, wondering where she's seen him before. liam summers. does the name ring a bell? she can't be sure. she just hopes he's not a troublemaker.
he hates orders but given the situation has no other options than to comply. "fine." he complies and starts walking forward, keeping his arms raised in the same position. it's still dark but he manages with the help from the moonlight which he soon finds himself standing under. then finally he turns, slowly, carefully to meet a female. his focus is immediately drawn to the shotgun in her hand; not uncommon but definitely not something a grunt would use, which only leads him to wonder.
"tempest. rocket safehouse." he replies. he's well aware of where he was, just not so much who he was being held by gunpoint at. he barely knows anyone in rocket and should this deal even work he doubts he'll spend any effort getting to know them. instead he takes the time to study the woman's features; strong, stoic, elegant. he's certain that she isn't a just a regular grunt but he's unsure where her power truly lies.
"i can help you take galactic down."
it's a blunt answer but it's the truth, and it's what he came here to bargain with. he expects his answer to catch her off guard especially since he has no evidence to even prove the legitimacy of what he was saying. "i'm wanted for murder, attempted murder, public endangerment, and resisting arrest." something she would have known if she knew who he was. it wouldn't take long for her to find out regardless.
"all courtesy of galactic. now i want my revenge." and more importantly, safety. but she doesn't need to know that. if she did then it would make bargaining so much harder, especially since he would have literally nothing to lose at that point.

"oh?" she asks, genuinely amused at his answer. not enough to really crack a smile, but enough to make her reconsider her temptation to end the little midnight encounter. he wants to help them take down galactic. that seems understandable, considering all the things the organization had been doing to terrorize the region up until this point. burning a whole town down, now that was harsh. he lists his crimes and naomi's eyes only narrow in displeasure.
"...that liam summers, then."
it clicks. he's a wanted fugitive she's heard of well enough, and according to source he is affiliated with galactic. or rather, was. this was an interesting, if not troublesome turn in events. but there's no reason to pretend to be a murderer, there's not reason he would have waited this long if he truly was out to kill her or raise a ruckus. and yet...
"let's say i believe you and you really have switched sides." it doesn't sit well with her. call her picky, but naomi's not about to let an inch of her guard down despite the random and seemingly authentic propositions laid down by the man. besides, he can't prove his identity. and there's another detail that nags her.
"what use do you think rocket has of turncoats, liam?" she asks, tone as cold as ice. the unspoken question she means to ask, though, is simply this: is the information you have truly worth a breach in security? a loose canon out for nothing but revenge? that's dangerous and a foolish thing to accept, regardless. but then again, naomi's probably not in a position to kill him if he really is liam summers and what he's telling is the truth. revenge is such a fickle thing, but the hollow look in the man's eyes is something she cannot deny. she only wishes that people wouldn't get so caught up with stupid, dark desires like vengeance...
yes, that liam summers. he would have preferred to leave behind a different legacy but apparently it's that one, the murderer, the galcatic, the criminal. the only guilt he feels is that it plagues his family, and they're the only people he truly cares for now. it's hard to read her expression, the darkness doing little to help him. but judging by the tone in her voice she seems amused, maybe even genuinely interested in his offer.
there's no backing out of this now. he has to convince her to let him in because the other option could very well be death, which is something he's not ready to face quite yet. so he blinks, stares her straight in the eye and meets her coldness with aggression which might not have been the most appropriate tone to use in that situation.
"because i'm not just some other turncoat, which is something you should have realized by now. i know things, i know the organization inside out, i know their plans, and more importantly; i know their weaknesses."
he isn't going to tell her everything he knew, not yet, not when the deal hasn't even been offered. he thinks back to the night rocket announced their presence. "your leader, the redhead, he wants to conquer sinnoh, doesn't he?" he asks. he already knows the answer and so does most people in sinnoh. it was quite an entrance and a grand way to introduce himself, he has to admit. "i can help him, no, i can help you do that." he feels no need to specify who he meant exactly by you.
truth is he cares very little about rocket or their true intentions. all he wants is to end this feud, to stop looking behind his shoulder at every moment, to stop worrying. so he pleads to her, a shell of a man; broken, beaten, his eyes are heavy with each blink as arms start to tire.

ah. but there's a reason naomi prefers passion to quietness, a reason that makes people turn to anger and harsh words sooner than neutrality and diplomacy. and that reason is that you can't fake anger, nor hide raw emotion. you can't create the genuine effect that true anger, true desire leaves on your body. and naomi knows all the signs. the steadily raising tone of voice, the look as though he can't hold something back. it's genuine.
but in the end, it's not loyalty. the man before her doesn't care about rocket, it's plain to see. but she can't blame him. vengeance, like so many other things, is only one thing that team rocket is very capable of granting. she's seen it with her own eyes, all the ludicrous reasons that people join up and put everything on the line. who is she to judge? the final word bends her resolve, and naomi sighs.
"very well. you can't fake emptiness, i'll give you that. your loss in genuine, and so is, therefore, your offer." she's confident in her judgement. nyx after all, hasn't once made a wrong call in matters of the heart. at least, she thinks as much. the tension in the room slowly begins to disappear. "as for the terms of our agreement, liam, i'm afraid those will have to be handled by my supervisor."
she removes one hand from her shotgun and flips a pokeball down from her belt, a white light exploding, but the revealing little more than a murky shape in the darkness and a set of glowing, INTIMIDATING eyes. "watch him," she instructs, as she removes a small mobile phone from the inside of her coat. the gun remains in on hand, though it's no longer pointed at the boy. instead, mycah's gaze will have to do the threatening.
"hello? it's nyx. asset #4 has been located and secured. current location is tempest warehouse, oreburgh. over." the line clicks, and naomi turns to look at liam, the sad shadows of a smile on her face. she pauses, trying to find the right words. "revenge can ruin the soul beyond all repair," are the words of wisdom she's left to offer, and she does so willingly even knowing that they might as well be fallen on ears that had already been sown tight.

and just like that the tension dissolves, fades away as an agreement is made. finally. even though nothing has happened yet he feels a great deal of tension being lifted off his shoulders, like he doesn't have to go through this by himself. it's another criminal organization, and another way to disgrace the summers name but he doesn't care. for once he can at least feel somewhat safe in that safehouse, even if it is just temporary.
he lets his hands fall down to his sides when she lowers her gun. he keeps them outside pockets however. he takes notice of the glowing eyes that lurk in the shadows, feeling only a bit uneasey as he listens to her phone call. he raises a hand to his neck and gently rubs away at the scar from a past battle; a bullet wound that grazed. he lowers it when she finishes her call.
"ha, of course." he lets out a scoff when he hears asset number four. it figures that rocket would have connections in sinnoh, he only wonders how many are turncoats like him. "i'm not the first one to do this, am i?" her following words of wisdom just fall on deaf ears, to which he could only offer a, "right."
he takes a deep breath and lets his hand hover over his right pocket where his pokeballs are, a subconscious trait he's picked up from multiple incidents. he shifts his gaze from the glowing eyes back onto her. despite the coldness that she seemed to exude he can't help but feel like she might actually care. but again, that might just be an old trait he has yet to abandon.
"thank you." he remains standing under the glow of the moonlight. he feels like he should offer her something other than a 'thank you', maybe a handshake of sorts but he refrains himself. instead he says, "i didn't catch your name."

she blinks and looks up at him as soon as the call ends. "did you honestly think you were?" that sort of naivety was more befitting of a child than a murderer, and naomi can't help but wonder fleetingly about the boy-- how old he is, where he comes from. it vanishes in an instant though. she doesn't have the luxury of getting to close with someone like summers. "i'm sorry, liam," she says, and the apology sounds almost profoundly genuine. "but you aren't, and you won't be the last." it's the truth, and she can't coddle him or hide it from him. rocket's connections are ever expanding, and they'd picked out more than enough potentials before invading the region, having sent scouts like herself and lucas months before in preparation.
she frowns at his casual dismissal, wondering if he'll get involved in something dangerous too soon again. but that's okay. people like him, at least the ones she'd met never had long lifespans...or even pleasant ones. the thanks she receives is met with a nod. "your welcome." not like she should be on the receiving end of the kindness, but naomi knows her game of debt and favors well by now. it's hard to avoid, so she goes with it.
she pauses at his request. his was already out in the open, so she supposed it was okay. "nyx. they call me nyx." she looks behind her shoulders, almost apprehensively at the doorway. "it might be too soon for me to say, but welcome to team rocket..." she doesn't outstretch her hand, but leaves warmth in her words all the same. her eyes trace all over the blonde's body before resting on the hand inside his pocket.
she smiles ruefully upon seeing his hesitant stance, though there is little mirth to be displayed. "do you not trust me? ...i suppose that's understandable..." her voice wanders, as they're both forced into a simple stalemate, awaiting the arrival of a rocket admin.

he repeats the sentence to himself over and over again in his head. they own you now. you work for them. and for a moment it was like he's reliving how it all started, how he joined galactic; the orders that followed, the consequences, all of it. but he's older now, stronger. no longer is he that passive non-violent kid who wanted to change the world, no. that dream is long dead.
he knows he can defend himself should he need to. he's using rocket to support him, to have something he can fall back on and rely. "nyx suits you." he comments. he isn't sure if that's even her real name but he doubts it, but it doesn't matter. they won't see each other again most likely, or at least it will be under different circumstances.
at her question he could only raise an eyebrow in confusion. that's when he notices her gaze that's fixed on his hand that somehow has ended up in his pocket, an action he didn't even consciously make. "sorry." he frees his hand before cupping it in his other. "i don't. not yet, anyways. but that isn't your fault." he answers bluntly. too many times has he trusted someone and almost all of those times would end with someone getting hurt. he doesn't want to make the same mistake again.
"you don't trust me either." he states. eyes shift to the glowing eyes that still linger in the dark next to her. "and that's okay. because that's just how the world works. you don't trust until they give you a reason to, until they show you something, anything that compels you to." he shifts his gaze back to her and offers her a soft smile. "or at least that's how it should work." a comment targeted at himself.
he glances behind her to the door, anxiously waitiing for it to swing open. his heart's slowed down considerably but he still finds it troubling to maintain a constant, stable rate. "what's going to happen when they arrive?" he asks.

it was more of wayward comment to get him to move his hand away from his pocket without having to use the gun again, but the boy seems to take it as a question, and responds in a dark and dreary tone that makes naomi wonder vaguely what he had to go through. "..." she responds with silence, because she feels that's more comforting than anything else that could be said. nothing else needs to be said.
naomi pauses at his next question, pondering the answer to that herself. "you will likely be asked to give up any weapons or pokeballs on you and escorted to the current headquarters, most likely while blindfolded." rocket, at least, its branch in sinnoh, was still in a state of infancy. they could expect no risks at all, especially not for an outsider with alleged ties to galactic. she lets the words sink in before continuing.
"your possessions will likely be given back though, as long as you're determined more useful with them in tact." but at the same time, it would be a moment of total vulnerability for liam, no to mention a little humiliation. then again, it really depended on the nature of which admin exactly came to greet them. naomi wondered what lengths this boy was willing to go to in order to get revenge, and the idea tossed and turned itself around her mind. "but really, these are all my presumptions. i can't make any guarantees."on your safe treatment, on anything.
footsteps of grunts can be heard outside, and naomi risks a glace backwards. the doors swing open....

his mood changes when he hears that they might confiscate his team. "no, no, you can't let them do that." he retorts. his team has done so much for him; protected him, kept him safe, provided company. if it wasn't for them he would have been long gone. just the mere idea of giving them up, albeit temporary frightens him; to be temporarily vulnerable, defenseless. he shakes his head, retreats a hand back into a pocket before speaking again.
"i can't give my team up." he suspected as much when the idea of a deal first came into his head. obviously rocket would have some safety precautions. the blindfold was okay, but he doesn't feel safe leaving his pokemon in the hands of an organization notorious for stealing. and for a second there he contemplates just leaving, calling out whoever, cause a scene and flee. but there's something about the female in front of him that helps keep him calm.
"nyx, please don't take them." he begs and pleads but even he knows it might not be up to her. but she must have a say in things, right? he flinches at the sound of the door opening, the slight shock causing him to cough for a few moments as he raises a hand to cover his mouth. he can't see who entered, only their silhouette which frightens him.
"i have nothing else but them; no weapons, no possessions, nothing. please."
