major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
Entering the Ranger HQ Corbin would waste practically no time as he began walking through the halls of their HQ. He was still all excited inside from getting to meet Uxie during his latest mission. Tucked underneath the male's arm would be a leather bound journal, where he had wrote down a detailed report of the mission and what had happened during it. Including a note about the cadet that joined him on the mission who preformed very well. As well he gave a little description of the other two that joined them on the mission, noting that they were just civilians who wandered in and that he had to bring them with him. While he only managed to hear the name of one of them, Seamus, in a passing conversation the two looked a lot like twins.
Perched on Corbins' left shoulder we be his newly acquired Riolu, he had already taken an extreme liking to the pokemon he received from Uxie. Barely even putting the Riolu back into its pokeball unless it was to heal the pokemon or something like that. Besides being gifted it from a legendary pokemon the Uxie had also told Corbin it was a pokemon sealed away by a great hero a long time ago. So the last thing it needed was more time sealed up.
As he approached the door to the commissioner's office Corbin would knock on the door, clearing his throat a bit. "Excuse me, Its Corbin, Cole. Im here to fill you in on what happened at Lake Acuity."
IT'S THE SAME OLD STORY BUT YOU NEVER GET IT RIGHT
The knock on the doorway of her office would earn the ginger's attention as she peered up from the stacks of files littering the surface of her desk. Squinting at the sight of her own door, she'd groan mildly as she mumbled to herself. "Great, what now?" It had been days since she had returned to work after taking off weeks to recover in the hospital after a certain stint of her's and as expected plenty of work had piled up during that time. Barely having time to catch up and recoup her losses, the commissioner was expending herself trying to place everything back in a manageable order.
The voice that sounded from the other side of the doorway would state themselves concisely enough, the name that was presented one that she recalled deploying to the mission in question from her hospital bed in Celestic. Sighing in exhaustion as the woman brought herself to recline backwards in her executive chair, she took a moment to ground herself. Once she had taken a breath, she spoke firmly to allow her words to carry through the doorway. "Come in."
She'd wait for the ranger in question to enter, taking in the moment of reprieve from the mountain of paperwork. Raking a hand through her vermilion locks of hair, her eyes would focus on the man as he entered. So far the woman hardly had a chance to read any of the reports for the other lake missions so she was not sure what to expect from this debriefing. "Hope you have good news for me Cole."
As Adrian opened the door for him Corbin would give her a quick nod of his head before quietly heading into her office. "I do, figured out whats going on at all the lakes, well what was going on at the lake it seemed to of stopped now." He said before gesturing towards a seat in the room, still trying his best to be all proper and polite and a good little ranger. "Is it alright if I sit down?" If she said it was fine he'd plop down in the seat, setting the mission report on his lap for the moment.
"I wrote down pretty much everything that happened in this mission report here." He said as he held the report up a bit. "I can just tell you what went down there or just leave the report. I'm not quite sure how you handle that kinda thing yet." He added while looking around the office at the paper work that she had to do. Corbin figured that she'd just end up wanting a vocal breakdown of the mission. "Oh! We met Uxie there too."
IT'S THE SAME OLD STORY BUT YOU NEVER GET IT RIGHT
Would you look at that, someone that actually was respectful and requested things rather than indulging themselves. The ginger rose a brow in amusement at this before motioning for him to take the seat across the desk. "Go ahead," she'd say curtly in case he didn't understand her acknowledgement to do so. Allowing him to get adjusted, Corbin would speak on the minor details. Reports and all that were written in accordance to the protocol. While it as admirable the woman suppressed her disgust at having more reports and papers to look over. Thus at the offer of simply hearing the verbal report, Adrian would take it. It would serve as a respite for her as well while still doing work. "Ordinarily the written report alone would suffice, however as you can see I have quite enough reports on my hands to verify so give me a rundown." She'd gesture to all the papers scattered on her desk as she had said this to emphasis her current struggle.
That said the excitement in Corbin's voice would not go unnoticed, his exclamation causing the ginger to raise a brow. The legendary said to be the bringer of knowledge? "Quite a success then. Tell me of what you learned. What was the cause of the disturbances?"
"Well.." Corbin said before he began to debrief Adrian on what went down during their mission. "To get the whole what caused it thing out of the way, what Uxie told me was that, the guardians of Sinnoh have been angered. Unrest and imbalance has seized the region. I know it's a bit vague but it was all the answer that Uxie gave me before telling me to go into the chamber behind it to get this Riolu here, said that some old ancient hero sealed it up there and that it was mine now."
After Corbin said that he'd nod his head over at the Riolu sitting on his shoulder, the blue pokemon giving Adrian a frantic wave of its hand to say hello. "I know it's unprofessional to bring a pokemon in your office like this, but with how long this little guy was sealed up I didn't want to leave him in another pokeball for long."
Taking a moment to flip through the mission report he had wrote down Corbin would continue talking. "Lets see, when I first got to the lake another cadet showed up, a Fawkes Winter, he preformed pretty well during the mission. Two civilians also showed up they seemed to be twins but I only managed to get the name of one of them in a passing conversation, it was Seamus. While i normally wouldn't bring civilians with me on the mission I didn't have much of a choice. Two Abomasnows showed up and started to attack the group." After that corbin would pause a bit to see Adrian's response before continuing.
IT'S THE SAME OLD STORY BUT YOU NEVER GET IT RIGHT
Unrest and imbalance seized the region? Well that wasn’t news to someone that was overseeing the region. Still this was the first time that the lake guardians had actively done anything to show displeasure, going as far as to bring attention to themselves. Perhaps the situation in the region had gotten worse? More than Adrian herself had known about? Adrian’s expression developing into a scowl at the thought. ”I see. And we so short staffed too.”
The ginger cupped a hand over her mouth to ponder their next course of action, listening to the rest of the report all the while. The introduction of the Riolu would hardly earn Adrian’s interest as an apology was given for its presence. Unprofessional he said. ”Don’t concern yourself with etiquette. If bringing pokemon into my office is against form then I am guilty of it as well,” she’d offer with a shrug of her shoulders. Her eyes would fall upon the riolu as it waved at her, the woman until now neglecting to address the pokemon despite noticing it when they had first entered. Of course she would not return the wave but would nod in its direction before returning to the task at hand.
The name of the cadet would be kept in mind however two unknown civilians would cause the woman some discomfort. The fact they were not identified in case further investigation was necessary caused the woman to sigh. No matter, she’d address it later. ”I had heard that the pokemon that lived near the like had become aggressive so that does not surprise me. Continue.”
With a nod of his head Corbin sat there for a moment as he listened to Adrian's comments. While he too knew that the region was far from perfect with all the crime going on it in, it must of hit some far wore point if it ended up getting the lake guardians involved. Especially since it came off as them practically asking for help. "Eh well, its your office so you could bring pokemon in if you wanted, I wasn't sure if I could too." He said with a slight cough to clear his throat again, preparing to go back into another long winded break down of what happened. "They definitely were aggressive. Myself and the cadet ran onto a boat that was docked near the lake, and instructed the civilians to come on with us, while my Barbaracle tried to take the Abomasnow out. However as soon as we stepped onto the boat Uxie began yanking the entire boat to the little island in the middle of the lake that it lived on." After that Corbin shifted around in his seat slightly before continuing. "About half way across the water the boat was attacked by Sharpedo's, the cadet and I were able to deter them long enough with out pokemon until the boat could get close enough to the island. The Sharpedo still tore the boat apart and caused it to sink but not until we were almost right to the island, we all just swam the rest of the way."
Looking down to flip through his report again to make sure he didn't miss anything Corbin would nod his head one last time and continue talking. "Once on the island we had to pick some button to go down into the cavern where Uxie was, one button was a sword and the other was something like a book I think? We chose the sword button anyway despite one of the civilians wanting to just break the big slab in front of the cavern in." After that Corbin paused once again, just to give Adrian a chance to respond.
IT'S THE SAME OLD STORY BUT YOU NEVER GET IT RIGHT
The ginger shrugged at the assertion, not entirely comprehending the logic held behind barring the allowance of pokemon in her office. To her, even as the commissioner, Adrian did not think she deserved any special privileges for doing her job. For sitting behind a desk doing paperwork telling others what to do while the other rangers were on the field doing what they could. "As long as they do not cause trouble, I couldn't care less." A short and sweet statement that she expected would bring an end that topic. Had it been a tyrannitar or something then perhaps the commissioner would have had an issue however, sparing another halfhearted glance to the Riolu, she doubted that anything would come of it.
Regardless the mission briefing would continue, Adrian listening to what details Corbin deemed important to impart. It sounded as if the journey was turbulent if only due to the aggression of the pokemon in the area - what she assumed to be due to their need to protect the lake spirit itself. There were quite a few amount of details that were described and honestly the woman wondered if there was any necessity to be told of these parts. Sure she had no desire to read the report but these details did not feel as if they were detailing anything significant other than the struggle itself. "Right," she'd speak curtly as Corbin paused to flip through his own report.
At the news of being told of this slab, where buttons with etched symbols were presented to be pressed, Adrian arched a brow at the news of the decided choice. Personally she would have selected the book, despite her own desire for power, if only due to Uxie's representation of knowledge... but any of those choices were likely better than actually breaking anything within the chambers of Lake Acuity's lair. "Was there anything else? You claimed that Uxie gifted you with this Riolu here. Was that all Uxie had imparted?"
Corbin simply nodded his head at what Adrian said about the pokemon in her office thing, deciding as well that that specific conversation was over. After all it wasn't really a big deal it was just a Riolu after all, he was simply trying to be polite about her personal office space. Plus Riolu was pretty polite as far as pokemon went, the blue dog like pokemon was just glad to not be sealed up for once in some pokeball in a sealed chamber.
Instead of responding immediately Corbin would continue to flip through his report, trying to find anything else of note that was actually important. So far besides the first chunk of information he shared the man was just detailing every single thing that happened during the mission. Of course there were some things that could of been left out already like the boat ride and getting into the cavern. But he didn't want to waste too much of the Commissioner's time at the moment she must be a very busy person after all.
"As far as I know its all Uxie imparted on us. Fawkes asked it what was inside some pokeball he found abandoned near the lake, and Uxie told him what was in it. I'm not sure what it gave the civilians if it even gave them anything since I had to go into the chamber to grab Riolu over here. Which ended up being pretty good that I didn't wait to go in, Uxie had this Golurk cause a cave in so everyone had to hurry up and run out. Fawkes was with the civs and Uxie while I was in the chamber though, he should know if they were given something." He said with a confident nod of his head, it was the truth after all, while he was in the chamber he couldn't over hear whatever was going on outside.
IT'S THE SAME OLD STORY BUT YOU NEVER GET IT RIGHT
For now Adrian had allowed the man the time necessary to skim through his own notes, eyeing him carefully upon each action he took. It was a habit of sorts that perhaps made her appear more intimidating than normal. Nevertheless as the ranger would respond to her inquiry, her lips would purse to a thin line. "Hm," unspoken questions would traverse her mind at the lack of that substantial piece of information. If anything, it was good that the Riolu was extracted from its confines within the cavern, but why had it been sealed there in the first place? What did Uxie, or rather all of the lake guardians, hope to accomplish? The ginger felt as if not all the pieces had added up and that knowledge made her uneasy.
Realizing this might have been reflected in her features, her brows stitched together in mental thought and her eyes narrowed as she stared forward towards nothing in particular, Adrian would release a sigh before offering a sliver of her train of thought. "That's concerning. There are too many inconsistencies. Why would Uxie order the destruction of its own cavern?" Following this up with a huff, the ginger would sit back up to brush her hand across her desk and scattering a few of the papers laying on her desk further with scanning eyes seeking something among them. There were not many reports pertaining to the lake raids in general, not many squads being sent to investigate, but she presumed that would change soon enough. "I would have assumed you had questioned the details from the cadet before having written your report. I suppose I will have to have Patty demand a report written from him as well."
And thus her attention would shift back to Corbin himself as she assumed he had concluded the end of his report. While he had indeed done well on the mission and was one of the only rangers to deliver her good news in a fairly lengthy amount of time, there were concerns that needed to be addressed - starting with the civilians. "Why didn't you ask for the names of these civilians if they had accompanied you on this mission Cole? You must know of the liabilities." Now going in with civilians did not present a large issue, her past experiences having her recall many trainers insisting on participating whether it was with the graces of the rangers there or without them recklessly. The issue was not attaining their names or any defining piece of identification if they had agreed to allow them to accompany them.
"I'm not sure why Uxie ordered the Golurk to cause the cave in but its what happened. I can only guess as to why it did that, maybe to get us out of its cavern or something?" Corbin said with a raise of his eyebrow. It was the truth after all, Uxie did order a cave in and he had no idea why it would cause something like that. As well he assumed that the Riolu Uxie had him retrieve from the other chamber was completely irrelevant to the situation and just something Uxie decided to pass on from one hero to another.
"Although with it being a legendary pokemon and all, and with how it pulled the whole boat over to its island, I doubt that it would have any problem undoing the damage it cause to its cavern once we had left."
After that was said he'd close up the journal he had written the report in, leaning forward to set it on the edge of her desk. Just in case she wanted to go over the details again he'd leave the written report with her, there was no need in him keeping it after all. "As for not getting their names I don't have an excuse Ma'am, I guess I just got caught up in the moment and it slipped my mind. I screwed up on that and i'll take whatever punishment I'll get for that if it becomes a liability."
IT'S THE SAME OLD STORY BUT YOU NEVER GET IT RIGHT
To get them out? But there had to have been an easier way for the spirit of knowledge to do such than causing such a fuss... or perhaps not if causing a natural disturbance was its way of garnering attention to itself. While Corbin attempted to provide an explanation, it was but a band aide excuse towards the problem that was presented. Had that indeed have been the case then there would be evidence confirming this. "Perhaps I'll send someone to investigate the remains soon," she'd offer after picking up a stray paper into her hands right as Corbin's report had been added towards the jumble on her desk.
No excuses, a slip of a mind his said before appending the word Ma'am to the end of his sentence. Adrian huffed in response at the term, "Watch your tongue Cole. I'll punch you in the gut if you call me that again." Why would he even think it best to use that term? Their so called positions? Adrian was younger than Corbin and she knew that, and even if Corbin didn't it felt worthy of her ire. As for the topic at hand... "As long as you understand. You were the ranger in charge so it is on your head." Crumpling the paper in her grasp with a single swiping motion, Adrian balled up the useless document and tossed it casually into the trashbin next to her. "Is there anything else you would like to speak to me on or will that be all?"
At her sudden outburst at him calling her ma'am Corbin would simply blink, doing his absolute best to keep up a poker face to hide his confusion. He was genuinely completely dumbfounded to why she responded that way to him calling her ma'am, she was the one in charge around here. He was just trying to be polite after all. Continuing to be polite Corbin would wait and let her finish speaking in general before giving her a response. Which started with just a shake of his head.
"That's all I have to report on for now. I understand I screwed up and its on my head if theres any incidents from me not getting their whole names I'll take whatever punishment you give." He said as he stood up from his seat, stretching just a bit as he got up. The Riolu on his shoulder grabbing onto his hair slightly to try to steady itself. "I'll let you know if I find out anything else about the lake."
After he said that Corbin would turn and begin to walk out of Adrian's office, unless of course she had something else to say or another reason for him to stick around.
