major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
Grey eyes studied the window of the darkened building, the shop seemed frozen in time, not a Pokemon or human in sight. Steady hands seized a back pack and frigid fingers unzipped the bag to retrieve a crowbar. This wasn't Galactic business, not at all, Matt had tasked himself to snatch a few Pokeballs from the shop's inventory to hone his skills as a thief and to potentially snag any sleeping Pokemon.
The crowbar was wedged into the crevis of the glass sliding door,
"One...Two..." he wiggled the tool in an attempt to open the shop. He had done this multiple times in Sunyshore, be it most of the time he was breaking into abandoned buildings to sleep for the night. The door didn't budge, nor did the glass crack his efforts were wasted.
Matt angrily threw the crowbar onto the ground and hissed a swear under his breath. He wasn't patient enough to keep at the task, nor did he really want to break into the establishment, but if he grew soft in his off time from Galactic work he would be kicked to the curve and he would lose the only home he had, and he would NOT go back to sleeping in condemned shops. He snuck into the back of the building, nothing there but a dumpster and dimmed light over the back entrance. It reeked of trash and expired food, an overfilled dumpster the culprit of the stench. He jiggled the door knob to no avail, another lock.
there's a lot on her mind. her performance has fallen, people are taking notice. she's sent on scouting jobs, run-of-the-mill things meant for grunts. she wants to tell them they're not using her talent, that she's worth more to them than this lowly work, but she's keeping her tail between her legs now, head ducked down. she doesn't want trouble. and gods, she doesn't want them to start getting suspicious. she expects a quiet night. rocket's been active, sure, but they're crafty. lift up the rock and the bugs just scatter to the next nearest hiding spot and there's always more of them. rocket's a hydra. chop one head and two more will appear in its place.
alpha is by her side, though he's about as alert as she is. they're both tired. sleepless nights have left them both exhausted, burnt out after long nights spent on the training field in an attempt to force themselves into sleep. and it works, though her dreams are always filled with nightmares and she wakes up in the morning as if hours had only been minutes.
she's jogged from her thoughts when the sound of something clattering to the ground draws her attention. she gives alpha a look and he spits an ember from the corner of his mouth, juts his chin towards a rundown looking building. how far have they walked? shit, she needs to pull herself together. "we'll take it slowly," she says in a low voice. the pair creep around the alleyway and she puts a hand down to help obscure the charmeleon's flickering tail from view around the corner of the building.
grey eyes flicker down to the crowbar on the ground. nothing but a petty thief. easy work. "ready your fangs." the charmeleon snaps his jaw; embers spark from his teeth when he clicks them together. both sweep out from behind the alleyway and she says, "what do you think you're doing? my name is willow and i'm with the rangers."
The stranger's voice caught Matt off guard, it was bad enough that he couldn't break into the place, now he had to deal with a Ranger, something that he had yet to train for.
With little hesitation he dropped Aries' Pokeball onto the ground, the Blaziken soon materializing at his side, he whirled around, searching for the source of the ranger. Whoever they were, they must have meant business to so bluntly call out a perp.
"Whoa... I knew the Rangers had a few attractive officers, but this is ridiculous." He muttered voice tranquil with hints of almost flirtation in them. "I don't want any trouble Willow, but since we're introducing ourselves. I'm Matt, former Galactic recruit; it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance.
Though he should have been on his guard, he stepped into the light of the street light to get a better look at her.
"Wait a second..."
His eyes narrowed at the stranger taking a few more steps, disregarding the Pokemon at Willow's side, "Tell me, have you ever been in um... A gang or something?" he couldn't quite pin a name on where he had seen this woman, but he was confident he knew her.
Could she have been a TV personality... Maybe an actress turned cop Surely she held some prominent title in the underworld.
"Team Rocket! Yeah! That's where I saw you! Back when I almost joined." his voice was high pitched, filled with disbelief, "It's an honor to meet you. What are you doing as a ranger? Don't tell me you're trying to become a 'hero'." he laughed.
neither willow nor alpha flinch when the blaziken bursts forth from the opposing trainer's pokeball. they stand their ground, though her calm and collected surface, grey eyes vacant, flush with irritation. she snorts at his remark. "you'll watch your tongue." eyes narrow when he finally steps out from the shadows. she's not one to make first assumptions, knows better than to over or underestimate any possible opponent. though she does wonder briefly if his self-confidence is balked by an ego or something more formidable.
"yes. rocket. you certainly know your information when it comes to gang activity. you know, you're not building up the best alibi for yourself right now. is there a reason why i shouldn't report you to headquarters?" she ignores his quips, though they rub her fur the wrong way. goosebump prickles along her arms and she silences the tremors in her hands by curling her fingers into fists.
"what i do with my spare time is none of your concern. however, yours i'm quite interested in. " alpha eyes the blaziken uneasily. embers continue to crackle and burn in his mouth. when he shifts his weight, willow holds a hand out to steady the tension that's slowly building in him. wait, she urges. gray eyes flicker upwards towards the opposing man.
Matt crossed his arms, her remarks earning a snicker from him, "You certainly play this hero character of yours well Willow.". He clapped his hands, giving her a mocking round of applause.
She wasn't playing any games, she was actually trying to reform herself as some sort of rehabilitated Ranger "I don't want to fight you." he returned Aries into his Pokeball.
"They've been lying to you, Miss Willow. There ain't no such thing as a hero!" he barked, "Not anymore... But you, people like you, great people, you become addicted to the illusion of what a hero is and what a hero does. You grow weak for a second and you think you need someone to pat you on the back? Someone to lift you up?" Matt looked away from her.
"As a ranger you protect Pokemon, you protect people, but you don't protect yourself. And that hero mindset is what will get you killed for what? A few soft words at your funeral?"
He sighed, "Here, arrest me then hero, and get those oh so meaningful words of encouragement from those liars." he stuck his wrist out.
"Those rangers, those rockets, they'll turn on you, but me, you don't know me but I would never turn my back on you because you and I are a lot alike. We both want to be something that we don't need to be.... Plus I think we'd make a cute couple."
bad move. as soon as the blaziken goes back into its pokeball, she parts her lips to order alpha to move in. but then she stops, both at his words and at the sneaking suspicion that this could be a trap. so she holds her ground and in the middle of his ramblings, alpha cranes his neck back to look up at her. her jaw is taut, eyes blazing with a fire that hasn't been there in years. she's had dozens of confrontations, been spit on, kicked down, but she's been drowning in all sorts of shitty emotions all week. and her patience isn't wearing thing--it's gone.
"you think you know me that well? do you honestly think i give a shit about what the rangers do? what they do to me?" the words are scalding on her tongue, hot as the embers that flare in her charmeleon's mouth. and when she lurches forward, he moves just a split second after. delicate, lovely, ruthless fingers wrap around his wrist as she yanks his forearm against his chest. the dumpster behind them makes a resounding thud as she forces him back against it.
"you have no idea who you're talking to, friend." fingernails dig into his skin and alpha lets out a warning growl.
Matt chuckled, if he knew there was one thing that could set someone off, it was a long boring speech, and luckily for him, his worked... Alittle too well. The former rocket made a rookie mistake, NEVER let your emotions get the best of you.
Matt gave her little resistance at first, soon finding himself pinned aginst a dumpster, the impact nearly knocking the wind out of his sails. Soon however, the forearm of his free arm would find her neck as he shoved her back into the building behind her.. Yeah, he was a lanky fellow, but he had more than enough strength to hold his own. "Oh please, I know you don't care. Who the hell am I anyway? Some random."
He didn't add any pressure to his pinning, he held her in place, placing a leg between hers in case she got any ideas of a low blow to put him away, "I am not your enemy." his arm burned, her nails broke the skin and then some. "You gonna let go of my arm so we can have a conversation? Because we can sit here all night if we have to.
His wounded arm would make an attempt to grip her wrist.
rusty. out of touch, out of practice. she bites back a yelp when her head slams into the brick behind her. breaths come short as her temper flares and alpha lets out a guttural snarl, but she stays him with a sharp, "stop." grey eyes dart from her angered pokemon and back on the stranger. the easy night she'd dreamed about has long gone. she could end this quickly, order alpha to go in with a move that could incapacitate him. though she doesn't. but she wants to know if he knows anything. his offer for conversation is the only thing stopping her from telling alpha to rip him to shreds.
she eases her fingers off of him, holds her hand up and away to show she means no more harm. but her guard is back up now, rage bottled tightly. she bats his grab away with her free hand, holds his wrist for a moment in warning before releasing him.
"now let go of me and step back, before i have alpha here sink his fangs into your leg." another growl rumbles out from the charmeleon.
"Aww, not so tough now?" he yawned, he released her wrist and of course retrieved Blazekin's Pokeball and dropped back onto the ground. "Control your lizard, or else you'll have on less Charmeleon, see you're a former rocket, a shell of who you were, your threats mean nothing ranger."
Matt released her, dropping his second Pokeball to release houndoom, "I guess these two will be my insurance policy while we speak. Just in case your lesser char Pokemon gets jumpy."
He dusted off himself as he backed away, "Honestly, I kind of want your charmeleon, it's a fire type, I like fire types... Hmm." he tapped his chin, "It would be a good addition to my squad... Yeah." he rubbed his hands together, "Yeeeees."
Would it be hard? He had two fully-evolved Pokemon vs a charmeleon and a former Rocket... "Nah, I joke, I joke. I'll see you later, I have something I need to do."
and with that he returned his pokemon and left the scene.
