witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
we burn in fire. we burn in blood. we burn in dreams.
During the day the forests near Twinleaf Town was usually bustling with young new trainers who had just began their journey and wanted to find new Pokemon. During the dead of night however, the brush of the forest turned into a much scarier place. It was this darkness and solitude that drew the young cadet into the forest's arbors at this late hour. Of course she was a ranger and thus no one would question her if they had crossed paths. Technically she should not have been out so late in the woods yet nothing mattered when peace of mind was necessary.
Periodic pulses of eerie dim light illuminated the otherwise pitch black landscape of the forest's depths as noises and yells echoed across the mostly asleep wood. The light that was being created was always accompanied by the rustling of leaves and low growls into the night. The cause?
"Use Psycho Cut again." The order was given with a strong tone as the pokemon in question lowered its blade-like horn only to release a wide brisk slashing motion which managed to fell the tree that had become their target dummy. Yes, Adrian was in the middle of one of her training sessions and while there were results there was still a look of dissatisfaction in her expression. This was not the only tree to fall victim either as a few others were either scarred or fallen as well. Yet it was never enough to disrupt too much of the local scenery and destroy habitats. The ranger made sure of that.
That said Adrian exhaled as she adjusted the collar of her shirt. "Try it again Absol. We need more precision with that power." This was met with an affirmative cry. It was only a matter of time before she expected that someone would come wandering by. All that she wanted was to stay off the radar for just a while longer.

THERE IS A THIN LINE
between what is good and what is evil
I will tiptoe down that line but I will feel unstable
Day time had ended, the lingering light was obliterated by the rapidly falling night. The once orange and purple sky transformed into a vast expanse of jet-black that casted over the region. Sprinkles of luminous starts were scattered over the void of the night sky, all kinds of different stars, some just being born others fading away into the nothingness. Dylan had chose to walk around a this time of night, he left his home in Jubilife and quickly traveled into the woods, absorbing the night time air into his body with each breath.
The young adult loved nature, he loved the outdoors, he would take a walk whenever he had the chance, or lay down to gaze up at the sky regardless of time of day. It was the very reason he became a trainer, to explore the world and its beauty. It also was a prime reason to why he had joined Team Magma back in the Hoenn region, it's because he believed they would make the world a better place for nature. Though he was sadly mistaken. . .
His Lucario followed behind him slowly, not daring to say a word, the Pokemon enjoyed the outdoors just as much as Dylan did, though it was something that grew on him rather than being a natural alluring thing as it was on the Trainer.
Dylan examined his surroundings, the trees were absolutely beau- He stopped, they weren't as beautiful as he thought they were, each tree was scarred harshly from some attack, not enough to hurt the inhabitants of the area, a regular person would ignore such a thing, but Dylan was an avid nature lover, the scenery was completely ruined to him. He frowned in disgust, looking around to find some sort of culprit for the damage, these were not natural, these scars were aimed with quite some precision he would note.
A flash of light in the distance, Dylan turned to the direction, he pushed up his glasses awaiting for it to happen again before investigating, and it did. The male quickly started down the path towards the location of the light. Once there he paused kneeling down in a bush to see, his Lucario kneeling close by him. He tried to make out the figures through the bush, an Absol and . . . A women? Or a male? He couldn't tell, he leaned forward losing his balance and falling into the bush causing quite the ruckus, though it camouflaged him and his Lucario, it was still obvious someone was there watching the two.

we burn in fire. we burn in blood. we burn in dreams.
If the night had not been so still then perhaps the distant sound of rustling could have evaded the ears of the ranger at the least. However with the brief period of rest after the last attack the reverberating noise filled the air with ease, causing the woman to immediately turn around with a scowl. The sound… it was close. Too close. Otherwise the female would not have heard it so clearly. With a measured shred of unease the woman walked forward towards her Absol’s side.
Her vivid green eyes steadily cast over the area to assure that they would not overlook anything. After a moment she would finally speak. “Whose there,” the female asked into the nothingness in her normal feminine voice. Perhaps that was a mistake. She expected no response and for a moment she considered asking again in a deeper tone, but threw the thought out of the window quickly after deeming it too late.
The dark type followed suit though with eyes of piercing red the Absol had already pinpointed the source location based on sound. He would wait silently as his trainer partner would speak first. Subsequently the Absol barked his name loudly in the direction of the noise, giving Adrian notice of the general vicinity to look towards. While the female was willing to pass off the sound as a local wild pokemon, reasoning it was too late at night for anyone to truly be wandering, her Absol also reacting gave her reason to believe otherwise. That alone prompted for a follow up statement. “Show yourself.”
Truly who in their right mind would be wandering about easedropping on other people? Now it was not correct to mistake this thought for distress though if it brought out the perpetrator faster then whatever.

Well shit. This was quite the awkward situation now for the Ex-Magma to be in, it would be impossible for Dylan to go quiet and pretend he wasn't there, but he never planned to in the beginning. The Ranger called out to him, from her voiced he recognized the figure was a female, though gender did not matter in the current situation. Dylan just wanted to know why someone was harming the trees, and would ask them kindly to stop, if they didn't, well Dylan would offer them a third option. . .
The woman had called out again, demanding that the two show themselves. Dylan easily complied to the task, though he would need a moment, the trainer's Lucario would step out first, for a safety reasons and for it was not the one who flopped into the bush by accident. The Pokemon held out a law to Dylan which he would grab onto to pull himself out. He dusted himself off briefly and turned to the woman, his face slightly red from the embarrassment of falling into the bush, though it soon faded as he got serious.
"I apologize if I scared you." He said and glanced towards the Absol. "And if I interrupted anything important." The young adult added as he bowed towards the two, his Lucario mimicked the action out of habit. "I know it seems quiet shady and suspicious that I was watching you, but I had no intentions of doing anything to harm you or your Pokemon." He straightened himself out after a moment, his Lucario following the action again. "I simply came to investigate the flashes of light."
The Trainer then proceeds to dust himself off a bit more, patting his shoulders and knees to clean his clothing, pulling a small leaf out of his hair. Dylan pushed his glasses up and glanced around at the trees. "You wouldn't be the cause of this damage would you?" He asked already knowing she was, the marks on the surrounding trees were all too fresh for her to deny it. A small frown appeared across his face, he clearly was not too happy about the situation.

When coming into view away from the shrubbery the sounds alerted the ranger to remain on guard. Once something came into view the Lucario was the first thing to show itself and that in and of itself was intriguing. It was obviously a trainer raised Lucario as there was no way that this pokemon had been a wild one, especially with how rare they were in these parts. Then it was the trainer that showed himself with the assistance of his pokemon considering what looked to be a mishap. It was too dark to notice his embarrassment so instead Adrian had judged the new figure based on his words.
Which didn’t start off well. His tone conveyed himself to be male and she could see that much from this distanced. First apologized for potentially scaring her which she attributed to the fact of how feminine she sounded and the atmosphere of a dark woods implying that she was helpless here. “Yeah scared… sure,” she mumbled to herself sarcastically. That was definitely what she sounded like when she was calling out into the darkness. Smooth. The ranger tried not to linger on that thought for long.
She folded her arms as the dialogue developed further that sounded more defensive of himself despite the courtesy bow. There was no reason to believe anything he said. Those exact words were what everyone said, especially if they had been caught doing something they weren’t supposed to. Adrian wasn’t on duty but she did not particularly enjoy being disturbed in such a manner.
At the mention of the flashes of light, Adrian glanced down to her partner who solemnly remained still behind her. She knew that the training was the cause but did not think the effects were excessively bright or noticeable. It didn’t take long after that she would be questioned for the damages around her. Again it was too dark to notice any specific expressions but she could only guess what this was about. “No I’m not,” she said briefly as she motioned to the dark type “He was.” Absol nodded quietly in agreement which would have been noticeable from the movement of his glowing red eyes. Adrian could guess what response would come next.
As a ranger she had known that what she had done was not against any laws. It was not as if she cut down the entire forest and many other trainers had done it all the time. Thus she felt no remorse for this. She figured that this was one of those tree-huggers types though and knew the best way to deal with them was to move on. In this light the ranger waited for the reaction and the cue to leave. There always was one.

between what is good and what is evil

"Mmm, well I didn't say you were scared I'm just saying if you were." Dylan muttered immediately picking up on the somewhat sarcastic reply, he didn't really care much for sarcasm, it was such a common trait in people these days. "And like I said if I interrupted you and your Absol, which-" he paused to look around once again pointing out the trees. "I obviously did." The trainer finished, he wasn't hear to pick a fight, but this girl was definitely feeling offended, he was signaled that by her folding her arms. The Ex-Magma decided it was best to continue trying to be peaceful, but it probably wouldn't last.
His Lucario, Rocco, stared down the Absol, not in a hostile manner, but just to show it was aware of its presence since Dylan hadn't given it much attention, something he'd regret soon, but for now it has Lucario's and that's all it would get for now.
Dylan somewhat rolled his eyes at her somewhat blaming the Absol with a sarcastic reply. "Oh, so you don't control your Pokemon. . ?" He questioned, it seemed a tad bit insulting, but if you're going to put on a show of such sarcasm and straight up annoyance it was to be expected, no? The trainer pushed his glasses up his nose bridge. "I guess you could call me a tree hugger, but it'd be rude for me to tell you to buzz off and practice on something like a rock, so I'll offer to be your sparring partner, or well your Absol's since he's the one wanting to practice on these trees not you." Dylan added, he glanced at his Lucario and rubbed the back of his neck. "Though I won't use him for he has the obvious type advantage. I'll use someone a just as strong if not stronger alright?"
Dylan plucked a Pokeball off his belt, and tossed it up and down in his hand. He hoped his comments didn't anger the Ranger too much, or that she didn't just walk off, well it didn't matter if she did as long as she stopped attacking the trees he'd be fine with whatever she does. "Well, what do you say?"

we burn in fire. we burn in blood. we burn in dreams.
Oh great, here it comes. The judgmental attitude and the defensive spiel. Though Adrian was not one to talk about judgmental attitudes, she was annoyed at the fact that a random person decided to come up and act like they were such an authoritative position when they were the ones spying in the first place. Nevertheless the woman exhaled a breath to settle herself a bit. All she had to do was wait for the cue and move on. That was the plan at least.
Until the moment that the woman was just straight out insulted. The moment that she was insinuated to control her Pokemon her hands balled into a fist to conceal her internal anger at the thought. Now this was straight up insulting. "No, I don't. My partner can make his own decisions." She stated herself sternly to get her point across. This would have sounded more authoritative as well, despite the fact she was not on duty. "We aren't in a master and servant relationship if that's what your implying." While the duo were training, they had mutually decided to train in this location at this hour. Adrian might have been giving direction but that was more of a guide than an order. Absol knew that if he had disagreed with a call, it was his choice to not follow it, and the ranger knew that as well but that's also where trust came in.
Then the woman simply scoffed. She didn't expect a trainer who saw battling pokemon as fun to understand this novel concept. "Don't know why I'm even bothering. Based on what you said you are clearly a trainer with that mindset. I don't need to explain myself to you." When turning to see how Absol reacted, the ranger noticed the lack of one. Absol himself did not appear offended but perhaps that was due to him concentrating more on the Lucario staring him down. The dark type was able to notice the opposite human's reactions, even the rolling of the eyes, but rather than reacting negatively like his partner might have he took things passively for now.
Then there was the challenge. Not only was it there the trainer was even looking down upon the duo. Again the ranger scoffed to herself this time. "Normally I don't turn down a challenge from someone that's insulting me but this isn't my decision." Her striking green eyes met with Absol's stark red ones though part of her already knew the answer. The dark type pondered for some time before shaking his head. "Looks like he doesn't want to waste anymore time here entertaining this. Absol does not particularly fight other pokemon unless necessary." The dark type barked his name in affirmation though it might have also served as a warning not to talk ill of his partner again.
The woman would lower a hand to pet the pokemon's head. "If it will make you feel better then we can take our leave and you can enjoy the rest of the forest by yourselves."

Dylan rubbed his temples, well things went south, but he didn't entirely care, she picked at him and he picked right back at her, probably was not the best way to handle that situation, but oh well. The trainer was clearly trying to think of a way to fix the situation until she opened her mouth again. He took a moment almost starstruck by her response. "Ehm, that wasn't what I was going for at all. . . But okay. ." Dylan took a moment before saying anything else. "Okay, so if your 'partner' began going buck wild and start causing trouble, you'd simply let him?" He was curious, did she not care? The male tried to avoid saying any that would cause more tension between the two, but that was right out the window once she claimed that his relationship with his Pokemon was master and servant.
"Oh my Arceus." Dylan whispered to himself as he tried to hold back his laughter, failing to do so. He took a moment to get his composure back, holding up his pointer finger. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, but that's a very big assumption right there." He sighed shaking his head. "Wouldn't my Lucario be living evidence against that point? I can't really command him to like me. ." He would assume the female would come up with some reason to disprove that, but he didn't care, she doesn't really know him anyway.
Dylan was getting a bit annoyed at her silly responses, though he didn't show it, instead he simply shrugged his shoulder. "I'd say something, but honestly this is just a very stupid situation." He decided it'd be easier to talk to the Absol, since the woman wasn't going to do anything but bend to the Pokemon's will. Made him question if it actually wasn't a Master and Servant relationship. "You sure? I dunno if you're declining because it isn't him you'd fight or if you actually don't, but you've both been staring each other down this entire silly conversation." Dylan said glancing at the Dark type, indicating this was entirely said to the Absol.
"If not, then do as you please. And please do as you please." He said towards Adrian, obviously poking fun at her for constantly saying 'not my decision' and 'not me, him' earlier in their conversation.
we burn in fire. we burn in blood. we burn in dreams.
This was insulting. Throwing a hypothetical situation in the mix and destroying any respect that the ranger might have still had, made this conversation even more of a waste of time in her eyes. "If my partner went on a rampage and places lives in danger, which I trust him not to because that’s not the type of pokemon he is, I would calm him in whatever way possible," she replied while trying to look past how rude that was to Absol. "That would be my decision. Somehow you still don't understand that so do me a favor and stop trying to pry into other people's relationships - or have you no shame?" Yet he had laughed to which this time, Adrian rolled her eyes under the cover of the night. Perhaps she should not have expected much from someone that was spying and throwing backhanded remarks about the relationship of other people and their pokemon. Luckily the Absol was more patient than Adrian was or else this conversation would have turned south much more swiftly.
What patience that Adrian did have was lost on the other hand. When he tried to point out his Lucario, she wanted to scoff but didn't. "Yet you are implying that I have a master servant relationship with my partner? Don't be so impertinent," she responded as she turned to walk away. Absol had remained still however so Adrian paused to look over her shoulder as the dark type was spoken to. The dark type looked angrier as the conversation progressed up to the point the male started talking to him and openly undermining his partner. It was conceited, and some humans were like that. He knew that this was being provoked now and any aggression would have been thrown back and used against them, so he remained as he was though he would remember. "You want to stay and talk to them? I'm going to go back to camp," Adrian stated to her partner. Absol would not even bark one way or another to the male as he turned around to rendezvous with the ranger, not even giving him the acknowledgement. He knew either way it would be twisted against them but at least it would not give the satisfaction. Of course the disaster pokemon knew his partner was not without her own set of flaws, and didn’t handle the interaction the best of ways, but there was a reason that he remained by her side.
In the same way that was likely the same for the Lucario and the male trainer. Hell, even Adrian understood that. Either way it was not fair for the trainer to act in such a way like the two of them were not in a trusting relationship.
How did this conversation even come to this? The world will never know.
