major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
we burn in fire. we burn in blood. we burn in dreams.
A disgruntled sigh gave away the annoyance that felt as if it surged through the core. The source of it was none other than the lowly amber haired ranger that wandered the streets of Jubilife. For some reason she could not get this sour taste out of her mouth. It could have been the morning coffee she had this morning yet it felt more like it was coming from having to interact with city-folk. They were fairly guarded yet loved to gossip among themselves about others. Not to mention the muggy heat that filled the area.
To be honest Adrian did not even remember why she had come to this city. At this point the woman was trying her best to eased her way through the area without much of an incident. At some point though the ranger knew that she had to do something about her discomfort. In that moment her piercing eyes dart around the sides of the streets in pursuit of a café or something of the sort. She was quick to order a strawberry smoothie to even out her palette and take a seat somewhere to the side. Her eyes scanned around as she drank her sweet drink as if looking for something interesting.
something interesting did, indeed, happen. there was a sudden flash of light somewhere on the road. only a moment later, what seemed like an innocuous-looking schoolgirl and her anorith buying ice cream turned into an armaldo sitting on a schoolgirl and ripping into the umbrella of the ice cream vendor. the ice cream man seemed to say something, and the girl underneath quickly became even more red with anger.
"HOW THE FUCK WAS IT A GOOD IDEA TO MAKE YOUR ICE CREAM OUT OF RARE CANDIES?!"
now, get this; rare candies tend to be very, very bad for pokemon if eaten in bulk. the pokemon in question tend to lack severely in their statistics, despite the high 'levels' that they gained instantly. in addition, the pokemon tend to despise the trainer and have low friendship levels due to the fact that stuffing a pokemon full of rare candies was just a really cheap and really stupid tactic that implied that a trainer didn't care about his or her pokemon, only it's level. in short, stuffing pokemon with rare candies is something nobody ever does because it's an asshole move.
naturally, the girl's pissed. people understand why she's afraid that her bug-rock pokemon dooesn't like her now. she fears for the health of her pokemon, and how it's stats could have been lowered immensely. but most of all, she's so astounded by the fact that this is her second sudden evolution this month, that she's gone through the border between 'pleasantly surprised' and 'downright livid'. her anorith helped her up to her feet (which was quite the endeavor, given it's claws,) with a pleading look on it's jointed eyes.
it was a few minutes before the schoolgirl was done roaring her head off, and the girl massaged her temples in an attempt to get rid of her growing apoplexy. "i need... i need a drink. vodka. coffee. a pound of candy, something." she stumbled away towards the cafe that adrian mastry was currently residing in, her newly evolved fossil following after concernedly. the kind-of-crowd that had grown had begun dispersing, with a few people feeling pity for the distraught trainer and others conversing with the embarrassed ice cream man.
we burn in fire. we burn in blood. we burn in dreams.
Being the observant person that she was, Adrian had noticed the scuffle immediately. It wasn't as if the scene was difficult to miss anyway... she would have had to try to not see it. While she could not hear the details of what was going on through the glass window, it didn't matter. The sight of the event unfolding disappointed the ranger. A young looking girl screaming, berating a local vendor selling merchandise likely due to some dissatisfaction from selfish standards placed on others. It was typical and a small dispute. Still as time passed it became more unlikely that she would not have to step in.
Usually after venting the individual that caused the scene would storm off and things would dissipate. This scene only devolved further as now there involved destruction of property. If not for the ranger's sense of duty (if not annoyance) then she would have let things be. The cadet was off duty and had no obligation to step in and interfere. But Adrian shook her head as she activated her Poketch.
No she was not going to go out of her way for something like this. "Adrian to dispatch." This was the first step. As the person on the other side responded to the call, the cadet spoke softly to report what she saw as an incident report for another ranger to respond to. Almost as if on cue the perpetrator walked into the cafe right after she completed the report. Cutting off the audio feed, the ranger sucked her teeth as she leaned back in her chair. The girl's face was red and for a moment Adrian wondered if they were going to cause trouble for this cafe's clerk as well.
For now Adrian kept an eye on the girl in case they tried anything else. It was not as if she was being secretive about it either. She could have been discrete but since she was one of the only people in the cafe Adrian's observations were obvious from the harsh glare that came from her eyes.
fidel didn't notice the ranger, the fiery girl being emotionally distraught at the moment. messing with her pokemon? sure, that was cool, whatever, they were all friends. giving one rare candy? yeah, reward for a job well done, or a neat treat fidel found lying somewhere. but evolving her pokemon accidentally, without permission or even training? she did it once, and her scizor was okay with it. it wasn't a big change. it was a trade evolution, too, so no harm done.
but money, her armaldo, had sudden went from a small bug to a giant monster. it could have had a growth stunt. it could have not wanted to evolve at all. the thought of it just ripped fidel away from buying something, now placing her attention on apologizing to her newly-evolved pokemon as much as possible. "yeah, i-i'm not getting anything. and, whatever you want, money. just-- just point."
the armaldo slowly pointed at a blueberry muffin, which fidel then paid for and handed to the now-colossal pokemon. taking a seat at the table directly parallel to adrian's and putting her head in her hands. the armaldo stood at her side, wobbling every few moments, and fidel felt more shame when she saw it's lack of balance. money didn't expect to learn how to walk on two legs so soon. "i'm sorry, money, i-- christ, i should've-- god damn it...!"
fidel didn't know what to say, too flustered to even speak. it was her fault. she was the trainer. she should've checked the ice cream, the contents, asked about what was in it, something. fidel had a track record in doing illegal stuff when nobody was looking, sure, but this was more fucked than a crime. this was screwing over somebody she cared about. she doesn't remember the last time she felt this type of guilt before. she never really had anyone to care about for it, she guesses.
"hang on, money, i... i gotta go pay for that ice cream stall, man. stay here, and just-- just learn how to walk and stand, okay? just-- test out your legs, man. i'll, uh, i-i'll teach you how to walk after this." fidel walked out of the cafe with her eyes on the ground, moving to speak with the ice cream man herself. she was more melancholic, more dejected in her body movements outside, now. the conversation was soft and nearly inaudible.
money the armaldo stared at it's blueberry muffin. it felt awkward and clunky and wrong about it's new form, despite the feeling of power within. but, at the same time, it really didn't want fidel to feel so terrible about it. the feeling when a trainer felt they made a mistake that hurt you... the feeling sucked, for money. money wanted to tell it's trainer that it'd be fine, that it'd be ok, but it couldn't converse quite like that.
it wasn't hungry anymore. the huge fossil turned around slowly. even turning around was hard for it. with solemn eyes, it looked down on the woman sitting there, and presented the pastry with it's claw. money asked if the woman wanted it. "ar... maldo?"

we burn in fire. we burn in blood. we burn in dreams.
Despite how obvious Adrian had been; the girl didn't even seem to notice that she was being scrutinized. The ranger slowly took a few sips of her smoothie while watching the girl now stuttering at the counter. Was that tone apologetic? Admittedly that was the hardest and fastest shift from anger to sadness that the woman had seen in quiet some time. Most of the time it was the result of others talking shit to her and then learning she was a ranger once they are in the middle of getting arrested. This time she was not sure what caused the change of heart. Not that she knew the details surrounding the girl and the ice cream vendor... most of the time you could guess based on the dialogue.
As the muffin was given to the girl who handed it off to her pokemon, the ranger leaned forward to place her arms on the table. It made her look preoccupied as the schoolgirl took a seat nearby. Her eyes shifted away from the duo towards her own drink as if to hide the fact she was looking. In the peripherals of her vision on the other hand, the woman could tell that the pokemon was acting strange... as if it was not used to its own body. Then came the mix of apologies and cursing. Yep, it was easy to tell now. Adrian didn't make much of a move after that however she did identify the stages of grief as they passed if she had ever seen it.
First denial, then anger which happened outside. Bargaining by buying the victim whatever it wanted as an apology. Depression was to come if it had not already yet ultimately the two would both have to accept what happened. Evolution was bound to happen sooner or later. Still that didn't give anyone the right to destroy another person's property. It was not as if that vendor did not have the right to sell his merchandise and it was the girl’s own fault in Adrian’s eyes. Though this was only her suspicions of what she believed happened thus knowingly she had no right speak on such matters. Debating whether to confront the girl the brunette had taken initiative first. Based on what was said the incident was resolving itself.
As her green irises followed the sluggish dragging of feet out of the café the woman sighed. It was the fastest ride along the grief train to ever exist. Maybe that simply how youth was nowadays. Now all that was left was acceptance of the fact. Nevertheless the ranger was left alone with only the strange Armaldo to keep her company, if one could call being in the same vicinity being kept company. While Adrian had no interest in interacting with the pokemon she did watch the rest of the story unfold outside as she reactivated her Poketch to append a note to her report. ‘Incident has been neutralized. No further action required.’
As the ranger entered those words there was a sensation that brushed on the surface of her skin. Nothing physically touched her – more so it was the feeling that her personal space had been violated. Glancing up from the device on her wrist her bold emerald eyes made contact with the hulking bug-like creature. Most likely would have freaked out at this point but Adrian simply looked over the pokemon calmly to figure out what it wanted. Which was how her eyes landed on the blueberry muffin that she had seen the schoolgirl purchase if not only moments before.
"Aren’t you being inconsiderate to your trainer?" she blurted out without much thought. Even if the woman had put the thought in, it was likely not a response that would change much. Trying to soften words had never shown to be a good option. Thus the amber haired ranger stuck with what she knew: blunt and to the point. "Your trainer bought it with her own money just for you because you wanted it didn't she? It was a token of how sorry she is but you’re just giving it to a stranger."
She turned away from the pokemon as to not face it, yet continued to speak. "Eat it for energy. If she was a half-decent trainer then she should be concerned about that so don’t allow that to be a viable concern." Leaving out the thought that the girl likely was not a half-decent trainer from the events that unfolded, Adrian took another sip of her drink while showing clear disinterest in the muffin being offered. Again Adrian had no right to speak of such things without all the proper knowledge but it was not as if she expected her words to have much bearing.

I told you that I would never be
F O R G O T T E N
"..." money stared at it's muffin silently as the woman spoke. that was true; any terrible feelings shouldn't outweigh good actions and intentions. ever the stalwart one, the armaldo nodded in agreement, feeling a passing guilt that it quickly tried to shake out of itself. feeling bad wouldn't save anything now. all there was to do was to accept.
the plate pokemon shot the other woman a dirty look as it took a bite out of the muffin. let it be known that fidel bolivar instilled loyalty in her pokemon, among other things, with all the deep shit she gets into all the time. money wanted to grunt something offhandedly to combat the insult to it's trainer, but again, pokemon language did not translate into human language very well, so the temporally-displaced bug decided not to speak at all.
as it stood, the aforementioned not-decent trainer had just finished her business, and the vendor looked... happier than beforehand. fidel had slipped the man some cash for the umbrella, cash to keep quiet about the whole thing, and a card that directed him to some people in the battle frontier who would appreciate him a bit more. good business over all, if not a bit on the hush side.
she was lucky to have been able to resolve the legal side easily, but she always knew how to do that. she'd been doing that for some time. but there was a difference between people you dealt with and people you cared about, and she cared deeply for her pokemon. it was... a fairly foreign feeling, to the street rat. most of the time, she did stuff alone. but now... now she fucked up with what amounted to family. fidel's 'i-feel-like-shit' emotion bubbled back up, at this.
the girl walked back into the cafe, throwing an empty poke ball back and forth between her hands to fill in some sort of emptiness. "armal?" the armaldo shifted it's attention from the ranger to the trainer. it's silent, brooding expression became one of concern and expectancy and a million other things. "aight, we aren't in trouble." the trainer said with a small shrug, and armaldo looked less tense than before.
"you, uh, you wanna go now? you want to eat more?" she knew that when pokemon grew up with a huge change in body mass, they ate a whole lot more. her scizor didn't feel those effects, but she had a feeling the armaldo definitely would. fidel looked out the cafe and into the street, hoping to find somewhere that catered to carnivorous pokemon more, but also trying to fill in the gap in the conversation. "we can, uh... find something." the girl was way more quiet and decent than how she normally was. she'd be balls to the walls on any other day, but shit went down recently, and she definitely felt the need to take it easy for money's sake.

we burn in fire. we burn in blood. we burn in dreams.
This always happened. She would say something and people she was directing the statement to would get mad. There was no telling how many dirty looks or nagging peers Adrian had experienced in her lifetime. It had gotten to the point that the woman would ignore it now because rather than finding the reason and opting for a solution, she chose to not care. Why would she? It was almost as if society was training individuals to be hyper sensitive to other's feelings rather than allowing them to speak their mind. How would they develop if that was the case?
Nevertheless Adrian kept her gaze cast outside the window. With the situation seemingly resolved outside, the vendor taking the money and looking rather content actually, the ranger saw no reason to continue monitoring the situation. Thus when the girl began to return to the cafe the amber haired woman wouldn't turn to look this time. The sound of the door opening and the girl returning to the pokemon that had taken refuge next to her alerted the ranger of all these action items. Whether that mattered was another story. The trainer and her pokemon conversed albeit being a bit awkward - not that Adrian had a right to claim that - with the girl seemingly trying to fill the void of silence between them. It was mildly amusing. Adrian was glad that her relationship with Absol, or any of her pokemon really, were like that. They all had a mutual understanding of how Adrian was and accepted it except in extreme emergencies though the ranger was usually relatively good with those.
Anyway this looked to be a... delicate moment. While again the woman did not care, she was running out of drink. Thus she promptly stood up and finished the rest of it so that she could start getting back to the grinding game. The sour taste in her mouth had diffused for now so she was satisfied to some extent. No doubt her sudden movement would have drawn some attention to her as she began to make her way to the door. On the way there she made sure to establish eye contact with the female trainer, her fierce eyes making the last few judgements as she did. "Try not to repeat your mistakes," she said offhandedly but loud enough to allow the girl to know the statement was to her.
Peeling her eyes away, she threw the remnants of the smoothie in the trash can. Giving it a few moments she glanced down at her poketch for the time before walking out. Thus if anyone wanted to confront her they would have a minute until Adrian had left completely into the crowd of people still walking outside.
