distraction. he needed to keep himself occupied, keep his mind off of his troubles. the gyms so far have proved to be a good distraction, despite them being easy as shit to overcome. that was the cockiness that resonated from having three badges, three easy badges. though pastoria would prove to be more of a challenge for him, given his obvious weakness to water types.
but that didn't matter, he still held the same level of confidence as he did with the others, and part of that was because he had to.
the gym was well designed, a built in waterfall and on top of that was the battlefield. the climb would have been exhausting. luckily there would be no need for that, a hand grabbing out a single pokeball before releasing the beast that rested inside. an aerodactyl, a pokemon from another time, wings mighty as it took off, but not before the spy got on. it cruised atop the body of water, wings rippling as it flew across before rotating, body flying straight upwards at the waterfall before arriving at the destination.
the spy got off, taking his position behind the aerodactyl, who recently has been less wild. he stared across at the leader, annoyance building as he heard the man speak. wake called out his gyarados and the battle commenced.
whistle.
straight ahead went the dinosaur, flying swift towards the fish. its fangs glowed yellow, sparks of electricity jumping across before transferring over, the bite connecting. it was quick, the dinosaur flying up and away as soon as it finished the attack. a brine attack came chasing, managing to hit one wing which made the dinosaur plummet. it was able to keep itself in the air, narrowly missing the body of water below before circling back aimed straight for the fish. another bite and the fish went down.
whistle.
next up was the quagsire, but the spy was quick enough to signal the aerodactyl to attack first. in went the aerodactyl, delivering an ice fang to the slimy quagsire, who quickly wiggled away and slammed into the dinosaur. not effective, which allowed the aerodactyl to finish it off with two more bite attacks.
two down, one to go. wake sent out his final but strongest pokemon, a floatzel. it was quick to attack, wake learning from his earlier mistake. a quick brine attack and an ice fang was enough to take down the dinosaur, who was quickly recalled to avoid hitting the water.
steelix. the steel type would not fair well on this battlefield, standing on a patch of land in the middle of water. it couldn't move anywhere, so he waited for the floatzel to come. which it did, coming for an ice fang attack only to be countered with a thunder fang, the sheer force of it enough to knock it out.
battle won.
