major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
She smells like salt water. Not that she minds, she likes it- but it will be a problem when she has to appear professional in approximately three hours. She explained her situation to him as vaguely as possible- Liam obviously wasn't happy, regardless of how fine he insisted he was. Now the sun, high in the sky as it comes to set, beats down on both of them in the open skies. He had insisted on taking arcanine, but by the time he reached for the pokeball Lena had already whistled, and the Staraptor had scooped them both up.
As Veilstone comes into view in the distance it appears... foreboding. Clouds come in from over the mountains, the setting sun making the mountain city darker than it should be. She's not ready to check out of her current reality, not yet. "Land now!" she commands, earning a confused look from the Staraptor. He complies regardless, immediately pointing toward for a quick descent. A maze of white picket fences come into view. "The mountain side."
Soon enough her feet are firmly planted on the ground again. Lena doesn't wait for his question.
"We're going to battle right now. Before everything has the potential to go sour. Your weakest pokemon against mine- three on three. Friendly. I don't want the next time we battle to be out of spite or hate, or war.." her voice quiets at the last word as she realizes the potential for such a thing. She stands defiant, ready to argue her case again should he deny her.
vague answers just made him worry even more. the boy hated the unknown, hated that he could not prepare himself for what's to come. unfortunately it seems like it was inevitable, and the best he could do was to train his team, get stronger so he can stand against the true enemy.
but for now he was still with the girl, wanting to enjoy whatever time left he had with her. soon they landed next to the mountain. he thanked the bird before turning to look at the girl, wanting to question why they were even here in the first place.
then he realised, this was the route where he tortured the silverette. an uneasy feeling started to grow and he was left to wonder whether or not she knew. would she have minded? yes, most likely, it was torture.
a battle? he had a worried look on his face caused by both the torture from before and the mention of a battle. battles between the two of them have never ended well, apart from the first.
"you know i would never battle you for those reasons, right?" he asked, just to make sure she knew. even if things were to go south he doubted he would have any hate or resentment. he let out a sigh, realising that this could potentially be their last friendly battle.
"okay. friendly, so let's try to have fun." he fished out one pokeball first, calling out his alakazam, which for unknown reasons was named 'food'. the other two he was going to use was the arcanine and the dinosaur, but he wanted the dino to be a surprise.
"this is food." the alakazam waved. "you can have the first move."
She smiles as he obliges, turning to take her place on the field, but not before an appreciate peck on his cheek and a lingering hand trailing off of his shoulder as she turns. She doesn't answer him- does she really know? Emotions and stress change even the most sincere of promises.
"Food?" a shit-eating grin spreads on her face. "And you critized my names?" she's laughing now, even as she reaches for her own pokeball. it doesn't occur to her that the pokemon's feelings may hurt, not until she's already gotten it out of her system. "Sorry, sorry," she snorts, releasing the little ice-tree. "This one is Delta." As the snover stands in place with an innocent wave, dark clouds appear from nowhere. Bullets of ice fall from the sky- hail.
Lena doesn't bother explaining. "And he'll be starting off with powder snow," she prompts, reminding the Snover why he was out. An icy blast is released at the Kadabra, followed by sharp shards of ice that threaten to rip and tear any fragile skin.
"Hope you brought a jacket!"
snover - 34 - 100% snow warning went into effect! hail rains down! snover is unaffected! snover used icy wind! snover used ice shard!
sorry, food. he told the alakzam, who was telepathically linked with its trainer. "food isn't that bad." he returns a laughter. he waved back at the snover, smiling at how cute it was. one glance up at the sky and he noticed it was getting darker, clouds circling them overhead before ice fell. temperature dropped drastically, and liam was left to shiver slightly as his hands found his pockets for warmth.
not long ago they were still in the ocean, so the sudden temperature change was not appreciated at all. "t-this isn't fair!" he yelled across as he continued to shiver, but he soon adapted enough to stop.
the ice attacks came in strong, the alakzam taking full damage from both of them. liam had to sidestep to avoid being hit by shards of ice, laughing at how close he was to being hit.
"are you trying to kill me?" his voice remained vibrant and happy, in the moment as he relayed orders to the alakazam. the psi pokemon did some weird hand movements involving the spoons, resulting in the last attack the snover did to be disabled. spoons pointed forward next, sending out a powerful wave that only targeted the snover, liam making sure the girl would not get affected by it.
alakazam - lvl29 - 27% - hit by icy wind (-28%) - hit by ice shard (-35%) - hit by hail (-5%) - disables ice shard - used psychic - hit by hail (-5%)
Snover whines, looking at its own tree-hands as it feels the disable take over. Lena pouts at the opposing trainer. "We know that trick," she huffs, though it's all in good fun. She tries so hard to keep the attitude high, and it becomes apparent that Liam has the same thing in mind. The snover obviously isn't happy being disables and bombarded, and in retaliation releases a fury of icy wind attacks that represent its short temper. It huffs and puffs and stomps, obviously frustrated with itself for getting hit.
"Hey, hey, it's okay.." Lena has to kneel down next to the pokemon to reassure it while it waits for its moves to take hold- the Snover takes as deep of a breath as a snover can, and stands sturdy for the next move.
"He's still a little new..'
snover - 34 - 53% hail rains down ice shard was disabled snover was hit by psychic (-47%) snover used icy wind! snover used icy wind!
seeing the snover get upset at itself just hurt his heart. it probably needed a win more than the alakazam did at the moment, so when the ice attacks came in liam told the psi pokemon to take it. down it went before being recalled by a quick light of red.
"hey, delta, good job! no one's ever taken down the alakazam before." he lied, just to cheer the little pokemon up a bit. next came his arcanine, released from its pokeball. the heat resonating from the fire pokemon warming the spy, a hand finding its way onto the thick fur.
"go easy on it." a fire fang would most likely hurt the snover more than it needed to, liam not wanting a repeat of the incident before. whistle. off the arcaninr went, reaching high speeds as it tackled the snover twice.
alakazam - lvl29 - 0% - faints
arcanine - lvl34 - 95% - uses extreme speed - uses extreme speed - hit by hail (-5%)
Delta whistles happily in response to Liam's encouragement. "Brace." Lena is quick to interrupt the celebration-- just because it's a friendly match doesn't mean this is not a lesson for the snow pokemon. Delta is too slow to turn around- one tackle hits and the tree struggles to stand-- the hail lessens. Another tackle passes it by and the snover cries out and crashes into Lena's legs, causing the girl to nearly topple over herself. Blowing a strand of hair out of her face she recalls the fainted pokemon with a smile and a shrug. "He'll know better the next time. I don't think you're ready for this next one~" and with a wink she reveals another pokeball- a great ball. "Try not to scream," she grins. With that, the slowpoke is released.
Pacific falls to the ground with a thud, tongue out as it rolls onto its side, offering its stomach for its trainer. Lena gives the thing a good pat. "We gotta battle now bud, come on, come onn~" her voice raises two octives as she speaks to the thing like a dog, giving it praise as it grunts and rolls onto its feet.
Round two. "Go ahead sweety," the slowpoke and its trainer have connected, despite Lena's apprehension about psychic types. The pokemon knows its duties as soon as it focuses on the battle, an earthquake erupting from the ground a split second after the slowpoke bounces-- it would seem like such a dainty movement, until it landed. From the cracked earth purple ooze bubbles up, the toxic threatening to seep into the arcanine's veins and corrupt its battle.
snover - 34 - 0% +2 levels - learns woodhammer! replaces solar beam. hit by extremespeed x2 fainted hail stops
thankfully the two attacks were enough to faint the snover, not leaving it with too many injuries. "he fought well." the hail stopped, temperature stabilizing. the sudden changes going from hot to cold to hot would most likely get the spy ill. the thought brought with it a sigh, realizing being ill would do him no good.
next was the slowpoke, its actions along with its dumb but cute look made the spy laugh. "have you been hiding him from me?" the thing just looked so dumb, but it was the cute kind of dumb.
the earthquake caught liam by surprise, stepping backwards to avoid the shaking ground. but the arcanine seemed to be ready for it, leaping away from danger as it avoided the ground attack. the poison that followed was not avoided, a shade of purple now coating the fire pokemon's fur. the slowpoke was stronger than it looked but the arcanine would not give in easily.
"He's my secret weapon," she laughs watching the arcanine with admiration as it maneuvers the field, more nimble than she would have originally thought. "He's pretty impressive too.." thoughts trail off as she imagines having one of her own-- what a brilliant beast to ride into battle; it was no wonder Liam wanted to use it to get here. The earthquake may have been a let down, but now the toxic begins to take its toll.
"Twice more," she states, steadying herself as the slowpoke bounces off the ground in succession. The thing is having a great time, fatty belly bouncing off the earth as it rebounds to small, pointed feet. Pacific is having as much fun as a slowpoke possibly can on land, and as much as Lena hates the headache from the shifting ground, she enjoys watching.
watching the slowpoke battle was fun, he had to admit. but not fun enough to distract him from the battle. the arcanine, quick on its feet, managed its way out of the first attack only to fall short on the second. it was hurt, liam knew, but it would be fine for another round. the toxic kicked in, taking away the arcanine's health bit by bit. there was nothing he could do, no full heal available to be used.
"one last attack!" no whistling this time as the arcanine got back up to its feet, all four legs now weak as purple coated. whatever energy it had left was mustered up for this final attack, using its weakness to boost the power of a reversal attack. and once the attack was done, the poison finished off the poor fire pokemon, falling to the ground in practically in front of the slowpoke.
a shot of red and it was recalled and its place, an aerodactyl who hovered in front of the spy, staying surprisngly low to the ground. its pokeball was still in liam's hand, fingers quick should the dinosaur lose control.
"this is my secret weapon."
arcanine - lvl36 - 0% - dodges eq - hit by eq (-45%) - poisoned (-15%) - used reversal - posioned (-20%) - fainted
Lena almost feels bad for the canine-- almost. There's a sick satisfaction is watching the thing break slowly-- she has half a mind to snap herself out of it, but she finds herself lingering on the thought of the arcanine's internal organs struggling to keep it on its feet. Fascinating. She's only brought back by the attack on Pacific, but the slowpoke cries out and releases a water pulse that expands slowly, missing the arcanine as it falls and instead heading toward the aerodactyl.
The sheer size of the thing is nothing short of impressive, Lena finds her eyes wide as they dart between the prehistoric pokemon and Liam.
Lips slide slowly into a smile. "You've really been holding out on me, huh?" The exhilaration of seeing another fossil in the flesh tempts her to release her own. Lena looses the Cranidos without thinking of the consequences- the pokemon is the object of a crime, but she disregards anything that may happen, at least in the second she releases it. She almost forgets about the news headlines: Ranger Sics Cranidos on Citizen. The sudden thought turns her mood sour- media. Irritating. So much criticism and, yes, she overreacted, but the lack of the whole story is, in short, infuriating. It's too late to recall the thing, so Lena is left to watch her own fossil pokemon strike at the ground with a clawed foot, nostrils flaring as its head stays down.
Lena's face straightens, anxiety suddenly spiking. It's too late to recall the thing, even tho it hasn't started battling. It stands by her heels, just waiting its turn.
"Me too..."
slowpoke - 36 - 27% hit by reversal! +2 levels did not learn slack off used water pulse!
the aerodactyl was basically called out to take a water pulse attack. it was strong enough to take it head on but it wasn't happy, and as a result flew high into the sky, circling the battlefield as it waited for a signal, wings flapping off the water attack from the slowpoke.
"just a little bit." then the girl called out a pokemon, and for a second he was amazed to see another fossil, but then his stomach dropped, realising that fossils were not easy to get.
me too. lips straightened as he looked at the small dinosaur. it reminded him of a certain other, and feelings associated would soon follow. "what does that mean?" the boy paid no attention to the battle anymore.
"was it a gift?" the aerodactyl grew tired of waiting and decided to act on its own, but liam expected as much. the dinosaur rotated in the air, massive wings turning downwards and suddenly it was spiralling towards the slowpoke. a quick but powerful thunder fang was all it did before hovering slightly above ground.
"did he give it to you?" the pokeball that was once in his hand shrunk, returning to a pocket as he decided. he was not comfortable with anything being given to her by aster, and so he would allow the aerodactyl free reign, not controlling it if decided to unleash on the smaller dinosaur. anything from the man was poison.
aerodactyl - lvl29 - 49% - hit by water pulse (-51%) - thunder fang on slowpoke
The joy of finally seeing Pacific evolve, even after the thing was fainted, was overshadowed by Liam's tension. The slowbro had just stood on to two feet, too tired to fight, when Lena felt the pressure. He's mad for a completely different reason- her face resembles something like a child who's gotten in trouble, eyes wide and lips parted. "Wh-what? It means I have one too--" she stutters, trying to answer his questions as they come. "No, nonono--" the venom behind the implication. She doesn't know whether to defend herself or be mad that his grudge is ruining their day. Both? "No, I caught it in Floaroma." she clears her throat, smile faded, instead replaced what that same old cold expression.
"Though I don't see why it would matter. Infant!" She ends the sentence with a command, calling the Cranidos to attention. The thing perks up and trots onto the field, bouncing in place as its eyes follow the aerodactyl. "Strike it down." Even the fossil pokemon knows he can't reach the high of the first generation-- instead its eyes narrow as dark clouds roll to the field again, thunder clapping over their heads before the thunder strikes down like a god from the heavens. Electricity crackles in the air, the fabricated storm representing the mood of the battle.
though a bit relieved that the small dinosaur wasn't a gift he still felt the tension that remained. "sorry..." the word has been said so many times that it has started to lose its meaning coming from the spy. hands went up to cover his face, his eyelids shut as he slowed his breathing. calm.
the battle raging on between them, liam toning it out completely as he breathed. the aerodactyl had to handle the battle it on its own. the sky cracked open and down came a bolt of lightning, zapping the aerodactl, electricity flowing through the rock type causing it to descend lower. fangs start to lower in temperature, coating in ice as the aerodactyl charged at the other, an ice fang attack on its mind.
"it's just... i don't know." exasperated words left his mouth as he lowered his hands, his face both sad and tired and at the same time still a little bit angry. he shrugged his shoulders. "he's inside my head... i can't explain it. maybe hatred." or fear.
"i'm just worried- don't trust him."
aerodactyl - lvl31 - 27% - +2lvls - hit by thunder (-22%) - ice fang on cranidos (75%)
"Oh, I couldn't tell," sarcasm laces her voice as she tries to smile for him, relief coming with the apology and his understanding. It would seem the incident with Adrien had flown over his head-- something she could appreciate, for now. She almost forgets to take in the prehistoric battle on the field, almost forgets to value how lucky they are to be seeing something like this in the modern age. She sighs. "Stop worrying so much. It'll ruin your life if you let it."
Lena doesn't have much to say about it, not when she's sided with the very source of Liam's problems. From the sky the flying fossil dives with a mouth full of ice- Lena braces for the worst, but the scary face from before has done its job. Cranidos gains the edge of speed, and with another nasty look he summons another ear-piercing thunder. The little pokemon roars (which in all honesty sounds more like a screech) and stomps its feel, daring the other fossil to try something again.
