major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
The whistling winds glided through the trees that classic Sinnoh chill the region was known for accompanying them. The scurrying of the the Pokemon across dimly lit grass paths. He cares so little for it all this overabundance of the monotonous that only corroded any sense of actual purpose. Still he can't help but scan this....excess for lack of a better word the trainer's eyes following anything that moves lazily if only to distract him from the first steps of his mundane journey. His current focus? The dinosaur type... thing that trudged ahead far too happy to be leading this party of two. His first thoughts on the small pokemon concerned its pettiness when it came to anything involving leadership, his second was that it cared far more for the world than he did. The man hadn't decided whether Twenty-One was necessary just yet, but he currently leans toward the negative.
The sun's long since set as the two continued on down the path, their destination being Sandgem town. In the distance the lights of the quaint town could be seen, the professor's lab the focal point of it all. The cool Sinnoh winds rattle his bones to his dismay eyes still focused on the Tyrunt who for the last two minutes had been attempting to decide which direction the two should continue in. The trainer decides to overtake the Pokemon walking towards the lights only for the Pokemon's incessant growling to return. It'd been a new record, fifteen minutes in blissful silence.
"Twenty-One if you don't decide I decide for you." Hazy eyes halfway turn to the Pokemon only for it to be focused on something else entirely. The rock Pokemon had assumed some kind of offensive position its body angled to the alternate path this being the most aggressive he's seen the Pokemon in the four hours they'd been traveling together.
"Okay, you have my attention, what?" The trainer moves to the dinosaur's side now curious as to what has the pokemon so riled up.
[attr="class","talk-scroll"] Isabelle was off duty, dressed in a gray tee, black jeans and white uggs, with the obligatory cup of starbucks held in one hand, making her look a few years older than your typical teen. Still, her messy brown hair falling long to her back, and her sharp, focused blue eyes made her look at the very least a little less basic than she already was. She was also squatting on the ground, watching the dinosaur like pokemon with a fixated gaze, before quickly scanning it in her pokedex when she saw its trainer appear.
She stood up as the man came into view, dusted herself off, and dexteriously managed to put her pokedex in her bag while still juggling her starbucks in one hand. "Hey," she waved to the stranger, no friendly smile or annoying wave attached, just a simple greeting from another random girl.
"Hope you don't mind," she said, with a tone like she could give less of a damn whether the pokemon was even his, "It's just rare to see a fossil walking about like that." What? She had done her studying, after all, and ranger acamdey wasn't always all talk. She didn't seem to notice that the Tyrunt was riled up, and she didn't really give the boy much of a second glance.
If he didn't say anything or call out after her, she'd be on her merry way back to where she came from. The time she was given as a break was very, very limited and Isabelle was conscious of the fact. It would only be a week or so until she'd figure out who her supervisor would be and then it would be getting in the good graces of some people from there on out. She needed an early promotion, and talking to people, as opposed to arresting Galactics, was not the way to go about it.
Of course, if he boy did say nothing, Isabelle would probably end up turning right into another boy that seemed to be headed this way.
[attr="class","smdbody"]a dinosaur? in sinnoh? there was no way that was even remotely possible, or at least it shouldn't be. but when liam's ears picked up some faint mumbles and sounds he eventually heard someone say 'fossil', which he took as confirmation that there was a dinosaur nearby. curious, he decided to investigate.
he was careful not to make too much noise, his feet maneuvering between fallen twigs and leaves. galactic did teach a number of ways to remain silent, and the simplest one was to watch what you step on.
eventually he made it to where the commotion was coming from. a male and female conversing, and in between them was the dinosaur. his eyebrow perked as he examined the creature, intrigued by it. but more so intrigued by how it ended up here.
"is the dinosaur yours?" he asked the boy, seeing as it looked to obey him. he paid no attention to the girl for now as his hand found his pokeball. he held onto it for now, but he wanted a battle. but eventually his eyes wanderd over to the girl to give at least some attention to her.
"hi. are you lost?" he asked with genuine concern. he noticed the starbucks and thought that this would be an odd place for her to be at.
Apparently the Pokemon had found someone, someone who'd treated the dinosaur better in their first 30 seconds of meeting than he'd done all day. The Dinosaur barked happily at the girl turning halfway to his trainer before once again focused on the new trainer "I wouldn't get to close it ate some bird thing earlier....whole." The girl seemed pretty ambivalent about their chance meeting, meaning he didn't have to match any quirks she may or may not have had. Two wasn't incapable of being social it was just tiring. The girl looked normal in all senses of the word, the type of girl who you'd find at some over priced coffee shop in a city too focused on it's 'down to earth' aesthetic. The type of girl who made sure she was loud enough for the entirety world to hear her when she was on the phone. Was that normal? In his mind it sounded pretty normal. After attributing a slew of stereotypes onto the person he was about to make his way leaving their meeting at that only for a third face to interrupt your existence.
He hadn't noticed the third face until it was too late, another fairly normal face, maybe a bit more handsome than a typical male his age. These two would probably fit fairly well together based on insensitive stereotypes alone, but who was he to say? The new boy was the first to speak up also commenting on the dinosaur, apparently little monster was kind of a big deal. So far it'd just been a massive pain, but if there was value in it perhaps Twenty-One was more necessary than he'd initially judged. "Yeah..its mine." He'd turn from the boy to glance at the dinosaur who despite it being closer to 11 at night seemed to have an excess of energy the trainer wanted no part in dealing with.
The newcomer would then turn to the girl who seemed more than happy to mind her own business asking if she lost her way. He personally doubted that she'd was lost. if someone the girl had managed to displace herself his question would be how, she got her coffee and managed to wander a mile past city borders, before realizing she was lost? Impossible. "Sorry to interrupt your whole midnight woodland coffee time...thing." the cat eyed boy shoved his hands in his coat pockets as another breeze passed. He didn't really care to ask, but he supposed he should, "What brings you two out here in the middle of the night, doubt you had plans to share an espresso."
pokemon name, type (ability) move -- set -- here when you battle! just put your notes! on what you did! in your post!
[attr="class","talk-scroll"] Of course her being off duty also meant that she was very close to being on duty-- and she changed clothes all the time and hated her uniform with a passion. The result? Her being at odd places at odd times, a little before it would be appropriate. The coffee was just an integral part of her being, and couldn't be left behind. So Isabelle gave the boy, as cute as he was, a simple wry smile. She didn't want to deal with civilians with those creepy concerns for women in the middle of the night, right now.
"No, not really," she remarked, her bluntness nearly impolite but not really. She then summed the boy up and down with her blue eyes, pulling the cup to her mouth, sipping on it, and then pulling it away before hoping to walk back-- she even made a motion as though she was going to continue, fully satisfied with having taking in the male's appearance, but then she was stopped by a question from the other boy, the one that actually looked lost.
"It's an Americano, actually," she informed, not crisply or rudely, but with a bland matter-of-fact way that she'd learned from her superiors at the ranger base. "I have somewhere I need to be, and I have to be at least slightly awake. Mister Blue Eyes Dark Hair over there wasn't really foreseen." She offered the male in question a wave. That summed it up efficiently. But then the curiosity gave way: it was one thing to run into some stranger in a forest with an interesting pet-- but another to run into two strangers, in a forest, both mildly interesting in some way or the other.
She was, naturally, supposed to mind her own business. But the question had been asked to her, so she relented. "And you two gentlemen? Here to duke it out where no one can see?" Of course that was more of a retort than an actual possibility- she had already come to the conclusion that the boys didn't know eachother from the previous snippet of conversation. After all, being hazy in the morning meant she was twice as sharp at night.
[attr="class","smdbody"]he shrugged his shoulders as a response to the man's question. truthfully he had no idea what he was doing out at this time of the night just roaming the route. but the same could be said about the other two who were here with him.
he returned the girl's wave with a friendly smile, but he was more keen on the dinosaur. he wasn't sure why exactly the dinosaur intrigued him so much; maybe it was because it was rare, or maybe it was because he was jealous that he didn't have one. either way, he took a pokeball out of his pocket and tossed it into the air.
"hey, mira," he whispered as the milotic burst out of the pokeball. it landed with grace and precision as it stared at the strangers. he gave the pokemon a gentle pat before pointing at the dinosaur.
"could we have a friendly battle?" he asked the man. it seemed a bit unfair; a tiny dinosaur squaring off with a much larger opponent. but liam was curious as to how strong extinct pokemon actually were.
"i'll battle you afterwards if you want," he looked over at the girl. he was quite confident he would walk away from the battle victorious and still be ready for another.
And so the small talk had begun, not to say he hadn't played a significant hand in it's creation, shame on him. The blond haired boy raised an eyebrow when the other asked for a battle, something which he had every intention of declining, but due to the nature of his Tyrunt who upon hearing the word battle immediately readied himself for a fight moving away from the girl and falling into an aggressive stance directly in front of the man's giant sea snake he'd released moments prior. This sea-snake was no less than three times bigger than the dinosaur, but still the rambunctious pokemon was ready for a fight. If nothing else he couldn't say his pokemon held any kind of fear, or really any sense of self preservation...That was probably why the pokemon had gone extinct a millenia ago. The trainer's eyes fell to the Pokemon, "I suppose I don't have much of a choice now." A short laugh followed Despite his pokemon's eagerness the boy wouldn't move quite yet listening to the girl as she spoke latent sarcasm in her own voice.
When she spoke of duking it out he responded quickly, "Of course, how else would we decide which of us gets to court the beautiful girl in the audience." Sarcasm exuding from his voice now. Despite his sarcasm and cynicism regarding the situation Two didn't appreciate his opponents confidence concerning both twenty-one and himself, and so he'd stand behind his pokemon with some minute amount of determination, which honestly was more than he'd had all day. "What do they say in the movies, when people do this kinda thing? En garde or something."
Her wry smile returned at the man's shrug when posed with the same question-- she supposed it was true that she didn't have much business inquiring as the next guy, and was fine to be on her merry way. Her squirtle remained happily in its pokeball-- she only really took him out when necessary. The water-type's personality was embarrassing, to say the least. She didn't respond to his smile-- she probably wasn't even looking at him while waving, instead distracted by the taste of coffee in her mouth.
She made quaint sipping sounds, a little obnoxious, but from the deadpan across her face, it was clear that the slurps were meant to be mocking. When Mr. Dark Hair Blue Eyes released a milotic, however, her eyes widened, and she used the free hand to conjure up her pokedex again, scanning it. The mechanical voice filled the air.
Milotic is said to be the most beautiful of all the Pokémon. It has the power to becalm such emotions as anger and hostility to quell bitter feuding.
The straw was removed from her mouth so she could speak, just after the boy had his words. "How ironic." She thought for a bit, and shallowly decided she wanted the blue haired boy to win, mainly because he was more good to look at. But the blonde was alright, if she had to judge, and his eyes looked like something else. She kept her comments to herself, of course.
But then the blue haired boy talked about taking her on, and with such a strange typing, too. She laughed openly. "Sorry, I don't do kicking dogs when they're down. Maybe next time." She paused. "Yeah, you're right, blondie." She then set her americano within the little side pocket of her bag, quite ready to prefrom her role as a princess in this battle.
Hey, it was almost midnight and the twenty-something was sleep deprived; what did you expect?
She put extended a hand and walked in between the boys. With a sudden, almost unexpected (from her) burst of energy, she lifted the hand up. "En garde!"
[attr="class","smdbody"]again, liam simply shrugged his shoulders at the girl's response to his offer. he wasn't really counting on her accepting, but it was always nice to offer. his eyes trailed her as she made her way inbetween them.
once he heard the signal he gently nudged the milotic forward. "scald," he ordered. it was funny how confident he was acting but in reality the milotic only knew one damaging move. hopefully his opponent wouldn't catch onto that, and hopefully the dinosaur wasn't too strong.
mira hovered forward, her mouth gathering a large amount of water before shooting a strong stream towards the small dinosaur. the water was searing hot so mira was careful not to aim it too close to the trainer who stood behind the dinosaur.
meanwhile, he thought it would be a good idea to distract the man as well as learn more about the creature. "how'd you get the dinosaur?" he called out to the man.
Twenty-One when it came to battling didn't listen to his trainer; a fact. The trainer was inexperienced and didn't seem to care too much for the dinosaur's well being in its not-so-humble opinion. That of course wasn't to say the dinosaur was a master of the art, far from it in fact. The duo was nowhere near as organized when it came to battling as the darker haired trainer and his majestic fish thing were. It wouldn't even be too much of a reach to believe the girl on the side probably worked better with her own team than these two did, an assumption even with no knowledge concerning her or her pokemon. However, understanding this Two had managed to improvise some semblance of a style that while not efficient and flawed in general managed to work for the two, and would have to until they managed to obtain a more standard style
He hadn't expected the girl to take on to his sarcasm in such a grandiose way, but with her signal the battle begun the darker haired boy ordering his first command. The Tyrunt had as expected already run up to stomp the large fish without out any kind of direction from the trainer only to receive a torrent of burning hot water to the face knocking the partially rock type pokemon back. Upon taking damage the trainer would begin his advisement." I wouldn't just jump at it. It's a fish so it's not gonna be super mobile on land, circle it and attack when you have the chance." The now wet pokemon while angered decided to follow his trainer's suggestion strafing quickly before attempting to stomp the massive fish pokemon again this time with a bit more poise.
If nothing else this would be a good lesson in humility for the pokemon, the water attack having done more damage than everything the small dragon type had been hit with today put together.
As he gave his orders his eyes would fall back on the opposing trainer attempting to read into the man, "How'd you get the fish?" His eyes would flicker to the girl who he assumed was enjoying the show at this point wondering how he'd ended up in this situation.

It seemed like all three of them were apathetic, generally uncaring and some level or the other of sarcastic, which, for some reason, made this little midnight rendezvous all the more enjoyable. At the very least, Isabelle was enjoying it. The blonde wasn't doing too hot, she could tell of the bat, but he seemed so detached from victory that she couldn't bring herself to feel sorry for him, either. The type advantage was going to burn, no pun intended.
She removed her americano from its pocket again, sipping it with cool ease, and flipping through her pokedex. She watched the battle as well, as Isabelle had been raised to be talented in the art of multitasking. When she heard the blonde's comment she offered a snicker in agreement, watching the dinosaur do its best to harm the Milotic.
She caught the blonde's eyes as they'd flickered and offered him a wave as well. Every now and then, however, her attention would also flicker towards the east end of the forest. Her stylus, hidden in her bag, was the only reason she hadn't gotten lost yet. She was supposed to be at Verity by midnight for a stakeout, of sorts, and it was clear from her shift of focus from the battle to her watch that she was two things: one, no stranger to watching people duke it out, and two, most definitely late.
"I know it's the middle of the night but you two could use some vigor," she said, and it was difficult to discern if she was being serious or not. "This is about as dull as Sandgem Town," she mumbled, the later half not really an attempt at conversation (unlike the former half), but it slipped none the less.
[attr="class","smdbody"]he noticed that the dinosaur wasn't too keen on waiting for orders. it charged at mira but was instantly stopped by the gush of water. a smile grew on liam's lips as he watched the battle.
"i asked first," he responded. but he was certain he was more curious about the dinosaur than the man was about milotic. so he responded, "it was a gift."
and he kept it as that; short and simple. he turned to acknowledge the girl's comments. there was nothing he could do about it on his end; mira only knew two moves and he was sure he's never going to order her to splash around.
"you shouldn't bash sandgem town; it has some nice qualities to it," he spoke before turning his attention back to the battle.
mira had taken a stomp attack from the dinosaur, and while it hurt it did not do enough to stop her from attacking once more.
"Oh really?" When the boy gave his opinion of Sandgem town he couldn't help but be contrary. "I disagree, It's an antiquated town where old people go to reminisce before they kick the bucket." The man would shrug his eyes meeting the trainer almost daring him to challenge his point. He couldn't help but want to challenge the man a little, it'd help him gain a little more insight to his personality, past the stereotypes Two had created for him. "You disagree coffee girl?" He then turn back to boy a shrugging before answering his other question,
"I stole it."
His voice was solemn watching both of the trainers waiting for their reactions, It was a lie meant only to test the waters. After a moment he'd speak up again, "A joke, sorry couldn't help it." The calculated smile returning as he watched the dragon strafe towards the fish pokemon once again, "I inherited it." A half lie this time, it wasn't so much an heirloom as much as it was forced on him, but honestly who cared for the details.
As the battle continued Twenty-One was eventually caught by another torrent of burning water once again sending the reeling back. Judging its status the pokemon wouldn't be able to take another hit by such a powerful move. This one would be over soon, but there was no way the Tyrunt would retreat at this point, shame if it dropped its pride he could have saved another five minutes or so. Well, if the pokemon was to continue fighting he'd at least help it make the best of the situation.
"Switch it up a little, if you keep moving in the same ways it'll catch on, understand?" The pokemon would glance at the trainer giving a nod, "Good luck, I believe in you." He'd offer the pokemon a small smile even if it was based on a lie entirely, for now he'd have to play the part of a good trainer at least, and getting the pokemon to believe in him a little was in the Two's best interests anyways.

"Wasn't bashing Sandgem Town. It was more you, sweetheart," she said dryly to the dark haired boy that was proving to be dull despite how pretty he looked. She offered a faint smile to the blonde in response. "Nah, you're on the mark, blondie." She pulled the cup closer again to make yet another intentionally obnoxious sipping sound, and the sound was literally cut right in the middle when the blondie spoke again, and Carissa went as far as remove her lips from the straw and say, quite simply, "What," in a very surprisingly authoritative voice-- although it wasn't quite there yet (too masked by disbelief), she was obviously not pleased.
And then the eerie silence was broken again and she huffed all the air she'd been holding in a snort of disbelief. "Damn, you got me," she admitted shaking her head, chuckling to herself. He'd said it with so much confidence that she'd totally believed him. "Jesus Christ, that was a lame joke," she mumbled again. Though if he'd said he'd inherited it right off the bat, Isabelle would likely have called him out on some bullshit or the other, the words seemed a lot more believable after such a ridiculous lie, so she let it slide. Either way, the eyes that had begun to wander were now focused on the match once more.
Meanwhile, the Tyrunt fought the losing battle, but did so valiantly. Neither trainer really seemed to care deeply for their pokemon (more like the three of them were old enough to not care out shouting pokeball, go), and the commands that were given were to the point and concise. The off duty ranger couldn't help but be thankful.
She looked at the watch offered by her pokedex-- the screen once again lighting up her features before she blinked it shut. She impatiently folded her arms ad began tapping on her forearm with her fingers, her coffee, the one thing that was keeping her stable now finished.
[attr="class","smdbody"]"don't you think there's something rather peaceful about that?" he replied. one day he might end up in sandgem town himself. but he hoped it would be in a new recreated world. he turned to look at the girl when she verbally assaulted him, chuckling softly as he thought of a suitable response.
"well we did just meet," he said. after hearing the man's repsonse about the dinosaur he didn't quite have the abrupt reaction the girl had, instead he simply raised a curious eyebrow. maybe it was too common of a thing for someone like him now; to be able to not be surprised by theft.
when it was revealed to be a lie he still had his doubts. it wasn't hard to lie again. "from who?" he asked.
when the tyrunt started charging the milotic glanced back to her trainer. "take it," he said. he had confidence that mira could survive any attacks the dinosaur could dish out. and once the stomp had connected mira immediately shot out another gush of water at the dinosaur.
