major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
being in team galactic meant that sometimes you needed to compromise your moral values to accomplish something. most of the times it was to turn a blind eye on a mission and do what is required, what is asked; to just follow orders without question. liam had a problem with this.
he had a problem with orders in general, which does not work well with being a grunt as orders were all he ever received. no compliments, no praise, just order after order. he got tired of it; no matter how many orders he followed he was still no closer to promotion. how long must he follow blindly?
that was a question for another day. he had someone else's agendas he had to complete: a mission. today's mission was a simple package delivery; get from twinleaf to sandgem. no detours, no distractions, just straight along one path. or at least that was the plan.
the funny thing about being in galactic is that they don't expect someone to be where they say they are. liam picked this up a long time ago and has abused it ever since. he figured that just as long as he finished the mission they didn't care about what else he did.
'summers, where is the package?'
he released an audible sigh as he reached down for his walkie-talkie, taking a few moments to relish in the silence before answering.
"what's the rush? it isn't even due yet."
there was another brief moment of silence before the voice replied.
'bosses want it before sundown.'
"why is this package so important to galactic anyway?"
his question was met with silence, which he took as a sign to shut up and move on with his delivery. before sundown would be tricky, but he could manage it if he didn't run into any trouble. little did he know someone might have been listening in on his conversation.
I ALWAYS WANTED TO ASK IF YOU UNDERSTOOD JUST A LITTLE OF MY FEELINGS ALTHOUGH I NEVER TOLD YOU.
[attr="class","sorry"]She hadn't expected her journey to start out like this. It had been two days; yesterday she'd gotten her Pokemon and spent some time getting to know the little Skiddo (now dubbed Elliot) and today, she headed out into Route 201 for the first time. After noticing someone who looked new, she had begun to follow him, hoping to catch up and introduce herself. Before she could, a walkie talkie buzzed and he answered; something about a package. She paused, stepping back - he hadn't noticed her yet, she was still a few feet away - and then she heard it.
"why is this package so important to galactic anyway?"
Now, the 19-year old was hidden inside the brush nearby, creeping alongside at about the same pace but trying to keep herself hidden. Galactic? That was the team that was trying to destroy the universe. And kill everything and everyone that was already here. She had just received her ranger's license; was it her job to confront him?
Hand reaching for Elliot's pokeball, she held onto it tight, heart beating fast as she finally stepped out of the bushes a little bit ahead of him to be sure he wouldn't miss her.
"If you're with Galactic, I can't let you pass," she stated boldly, and courage came rushing in finally as she heard the words leave her mouth. Elliot popped out of his pokeball with the press of a button, the little goat standing ground in front of Gray, who put the pokeball back and folded her arms determinedly. She took a better look at the man now - tall, seemed about the same age as her, and handsome enough that she had to focus on not blushing. At least she wasn't too embarrassed to do her job, but even so, she didn't know proper protocol for making arrests.
he zipped the bag up before swinging it over his shoulder. it was a messenger bag, so the strap went across his body and rested comfortably on his right side. his arm was placed on it as he walked along the route. he was careful not to move the bag around too much as the contents might be fragile; he didn't know. they don't tell grunts these things.
just when he thought he was going to be able to meet the deadline something stopped him. he halted in his tracks to see a female who stood strong with her skiddo. she was cute, but he knew when to separate work and emotions. he contemplated running for a moment but what good would that do? the skiddo could most likely outrun him.
"how do you know i'm with galactic?" he asked. she most likely heard his conversation earlier, but he was sure no one was around. maybe he didn't look hard enough.
a hand instinctively reached into his pocket for mira's pokeball. he often forgot that his milotic knew nothing except splash, but he could use her just to intimidate the girl.
"oh, are you a ranger?" he asked. he's had run-ins with rangers in the past, and they looked like how she looked. but she looked... different, like she was new.
he slid his other hand into a pocket, both hands now finding comfort underneath the fabric. he let his eyes trail across to the girl, scanning her from head to toe. she did look like she was a new ranger.
"are you going to arrest me?" he asked yet again. but this time he knew the answer to his question; no, she wasn't going to arrest him, because she couldn't.
I ALWAYS WANTED TO ASK IF YOU UNDERSTOOD JUST A LITTLE OF MY FEELINGS ALTHOUGH I NEVER TOLD YOU.
[attr="class","sorry"]How did she know? How did she not know? Didn't he realise he had been speaking outloud? Of course, if he'd had denied it, Gray may have been gullible enough to fall for it, but now there was no denying.
"are you going to arrest me?"
Gray tried, and probably failed, to hide the disappointment on her face. Of course she wanted to arrest him, but at the time, he wasn't doing anything wrong. Their rules meant that she couldn't do anything unless a Pokemon was in explicit danger, but... did he know that?
"I am a ranger, yeah," she replied, inhaling sharply and lifting her shoulders back. She wanted desperately to reply that yes, he was under arrest and he'd have to come with her, but... trying and failing to arrest someone was probably messier than not trying in the first place. She was stuck.
"I can't arrest you," she grumbled, posture drooping now and lips tugging into a frown. "yet." Her slate-blue gaze lifted to stare hard at the man, and her Skiddo seemed equally frustrated, pawing at the ground impatiently. The goat was clearly eager for some action, but it wasn't coming right now.
"But why are you going to Sandgem? What's going on?" He didn't seem that high up in the ranks, at least not to her, so maybe there was a chance he didn't even know - but if there was anything she could take to her higher-ups, maybe it'd bring about a faster promotion.
i can't arrest you. music to his ears. it was like listening to someone admit defeat, and in a way it was like that. he had presented himself as a threat but at the same time had taken away the power to do anything about it; a gun without any bullets.
but there was something about the power he had that called out to him. he wanted more. he wondered just how much he could push before things would collapse and fall down on him. but for now, he had the high ground.
"just delivering a package," he answered. he didn't know exactly what he was delivering so he kept it as vague as possible. hopefully she wouldn't pick up the fact that he was nothing more than a simple grunt who knew close to nothing.
"that's a tough looking pokemon you have there. does it bite?" his eyes glanced down at the skiddo who looked ready for a battle. he wondered if provoked enough would it charge at him. it was a dangerous thought to have, but it was also a fun thought. he slowly started walking towards the girl, his eyes shifting between the pokemon and her.
when he got close enough he stopped before the skiddo, careful to be a few feet away from it. he gave the girl one look before extending his hand forward. "i'm going to pet it."
and with one swift movement his hand jumped forward and met with the top of the goat's head, narrowly missing its horns.

[attr="class","sorry"]A package. Something stolen? Paper trails? Nothing that Gray could do about it. She didn't have proper warrants or evidence to try and get it away from the guy. And at the end of the day, she didn't know what Pokemon or what power he had; but he knew she just had a level 10 Skiddo and a shiny new license.
Despite this, he seemed wary of the little goat.
"I couldn't tell you," Gray replied with a shrug, folding her arms and watching curiously as he came forwards to see the little Pokemon. She wasn't worried about him stealing it; that wasn't Galactic's MO, but she still wondered why he had bothered coming closer. Elliot seemed to be a strange mix of curious and angry at the slowly approaching man.
His hand made it to the scruffy brown fur on the Skiddo's head and Gray watched, wondering what it would do; it could hold its own if the man tried anything, but in the meantime, she wasn't going to interfere. Instead, a vine lifted up from the green fur on the goat's mane, and whipped forward. If it hit, it would probably just leave a small bruise on the guy's hand.
"What about you," she asked suddenly, looking a little more serious and trying to hide the nervousness that sat deep in her stomach, "do you have any Pokemon?"
he was surprised that the goat pokemon didn't react to the head touching. maybe it was calmer than he had thought? but then a vine appeared from its mane and whipped at liam, who was too slow to retract his hand to dodge it. a loud whip followed.
he cursed under his breath as he slowly backed away from the pokemon, wary of another possible whip. red started to appear on the surface of his hand. he rubbed it gently as he let out an awkward chuckle.
"i suppose i deserved that," he said. in response to her question he reached into his pocket and pulled out a single pokeball and pushed it open. out from it came a milotic, majestic as ever. the tender pokemon hovered in front of liam, waving its tail in front of his face.
"mira," he greeted by brushing the ends of its tails. it wasn't long ago that he received the pokemon as a mere fish. but much to his surprise it had evolved rather quickly. he wasn't complaining, but it felt weird that it went from a small fish to this much larger one.
"she says hello," he spoke. he was still nursing the bruise on his hand. milotics had a way with calming people down, but mira was staring at the goat quite intensely. it might have something to do with the bruise.
I ALWAYS WANTED TO ASK IF YOU UNDERSTOOD JUST A LITTLE OF MY FEELINGS ALTHOUGH I NEVER TOLD YOU. LIAM SUMMERS
[attr="class","sorry"]The ranger couldn't help but be a little satisfied when Elliot's vines hit Liam's hand with a sharp crack in the air. Good to know the goat wasn't afraid to stand up for itself, despite being so fresh to the world.
She was curious to see what Pokemon he'd have, but the result surprised her - a Milotic, a Pokemon she'd only read about in books, equally rare and beautiful. Gray had been 100% expecting a Purugly or a Zubat... something of the sort that seemed more popular with baddies. Either he was different, or Galactic as a whole was different than she had first expected.
"Hm," she replied, trying not to look as impressed as she really was. Despite the fish being quite large, it didn't look experienced or sagely, so perhaps he wasn't an adept galactic recruit after all. Warily, she stepped forward, offering up a hand to the Milotic's nose.
The brunette poked her head around to take a better look at the grunt.
"You don't seem like... well you don't really fit the galactic bill," she said bluntly, then stepped back from the large water-type, and forwards to him instead, offering out her hand.
the only reason that he wasn't stuck with a common galactic pokemon was because he received the feebas as a gift. he was glad that feebas came his way, otherwise he'd be stuck with a zubat or something similar; something associated with galactic, and that's the last thing he wanted.
so when he heard her comment a smile grew on his lips. "thanks," he replied. the milotic lowered its head and pushed it gently against the ranger's hand, letting out a soft hum.
liam was a bit wary about giving out his name, especially to someone who could use it against him. so when she introduced herself it left him with a bit of a dilemma.
eventually he extended out his hand and accepted her handshake. "liam," he smiled.
"if it means anything, you look like a ranger," he said. he meant that as a compliment. but a question was looming in his head and so he asked.
I ALWAYS WANTED TO ASK IF YOU UNDERSTOOD JUST A LITTLE OF MY FEELINGS ALTHOUGH I NEVER TOLD YOU. LIAM SUMMERS
[attr="class","sorry"]Liam. Knowing someone by name made all your previous conceptions feel a little stranger. It created a sort of attachment, but whether that was good or bad in this situation, Gray wasn't sure. Either way, he was one of the first people she had met in her journey - was it chance, or were galactic members that common?
The girl stifled a laugh. "That's good, I think," she replied, stepping back after their handshake and resting her hands on her hips. Elliot had moved forward now, realising that Mira didn't seem to be a threat; at least not yet.
"I don't know, uh, considering your goal is the death of the universe, I guess you just weren't what I pictured," she explained (somewhat sarcastically), "but I guess it makes sense that you wouldn't want to be easily identifiable."
The images she had in her head from when she was younger (and from the TV ads) were more like... Team Rocket. Dressed in black, altogether sketchy looking, certainly didn't have Milotics as Pokemon. But Galactic was clearly cut from a different cloth.
She wanted to push further, but this guy was still a stranger and his giant water Pokemon was still towering over her. Gray couldn't be satisfied though - her statement about Galactic had only done more to solidify her hatred for them.
"As a ranger, I look out for Pokemon's well-being," she said suddenly, stealing a glance towards the Milotic, "by principal, I'm against what you stand for."
"my goal?" he questioned. he hated being associated with galactic, which was an odd hatred to have for someone who's a grunt. he understood most of what she said, he even agrees with some, but he felt like he was being targeted solely because he was a galactic member.
"why do you think that's what i want? i might be in galactic because i have no other option."
there's always other options, is what he thought she would say. he could just hear it in his head now. but really, for liam galactic was the only way he could achieve his plans.
"i'm sorry i'm not what you pictured galactic to be," he spoke. he was glad she saw him as being different, but at the same time he was annoyed that she thought he had the same goals as everyone else in galactic.
what you stand for. again, she probably meant what galactic as a whole stood for, but he was too heated to realize. instead he let out a soft chuckle and gave mira a gentle nudge forward.
"scald," he whispered to the milotic. the tender pokemon shifted her head to the side, pass the female, and shot out a stream of water at the goat.
"is this how you see galactic?" is this how you see me?" he asked.
I ALWAYS WANTED TO ASK IF YOU UNDERSTOOD JUST A LITTLE OF MY FEELINGS ALTHOUGH I NEVER TOLD YOU. LIAM SUMMERS
[attr="class","sorry"]His attitude seemed to flip on a dime. Obviously Gray had said something wrong, but she was letting her frustration with galactic get the better of her.
She didn't really have any words as Liam spoke. Why would he be sorry he didn't fit the galactic bill? She meant it as a compliment, but it was too late to try and discuss that now. He was obviously offended or angered at what she'd said. The ranger was lost for words.
When the milotic shifted, Gray reacted accordingly and stepped back; but not fast enough to tell Elliot to avoid the stream of water that had flown at him. The goat skidded backwards, a little steamy, but altogether the grass type hadn't taken much of a hit.
Is this what it's going to be like?
"Growth! Then vine whip," Gray said, voice shaky but angry, and the goat - looking shocked at what had been a friendly Pokemon moments ago - responded quickly, boosting both atk stats and firing off several vines towards the Milotic. There was no time for conversation anymore; Gray wasn't willing to divert any of her attention from her Skiddo at this point.
catch him on a friendlier mood and this would have been a much different encounter. well, he was in a good mood prior; so just don't bring up galactic and things should be fine. he couldn't help himself. there was something about being related to galactic that just made him angry.
he knew mira was at a disadvantage due to the types so he had to plan his attacks carefully. plan meaning when to dodge and then use the one move mira knew.
"careful!" he called out. the tender pokemon managed to slither away from one of the vines, narrowly missing her head, but the others connected with her body. she recoiled in pain and it was like a jab to the heart for liam as well.
he was too invested to withdraw from the battle now, even if it meant mira getting hurt. "scald again," he ordered. mira released two short but strong gushes of water at the goat pokemon.
meanwhile he thought it would be good to distract his opponent. so he spoke, "isn't hurting pokemon against what you stand for?"
I ALWAYS WANTED TO ASK IF YOU UNDERSTOOD JUST A LITTLE OF MY FEELINGS ALTHOUGH I NEVER TOLD YOU. LIAM SUMMERS
[attr="class","sorry"]"Tch."
Gray forced herself to try to stay calm. She slowed her breathing, watching as most of the vines hit Milotic, and another attack came Elliot's way. The damage, still, was mostly minimal - but now a burn was evident, and the Skiddo flinched.
"Leech seed - vine whip again," Gray said quickly and quietly, the Skiddo firing off a few pods of seeds at the Milotic and then following up with another vine-filled attack. Now that he was burned, the battle might be close, but she had faith.
"A Pokemon battle is different than abuse," she replied simply, steely eyes staring Liam down from across the battleground. "This- this is just practice," she added, and the realisation that practicing 'defending yourself from galactic members/people who want to hurt you' was going to be her reality now that she was on her own was... sobering to say the least.
unlike his opponent, liam didn't try to stay calm; in fact, he embraced his feelings and used it as fuel to keep going. it was hard, though, watching mira out on the battlefield like this. it wasn't ideal, but it was for something he believed in.
when the goat used leech seed it gave him enough time to think mira's next moves through. "dodge it and scald," he ordered.
mira's movements were fluid, narrowly shifting out of the way of the vines before shooting out another stream of water. her second attack had burned the goat so liam was hoping this one would do the same.
"how is it different?" he shot back a question. he met her gaze with one of his own, not afraid of backing down. "practice for what?" he continued.
he shrugged his shoulders. he wanted to be seen as an individual and not as a whole; he had his own ideals and goals that differ from galactic's.
"an apology."
