major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
Beach parties were only fun if they lingered into the night. Most things were only fun if they lingered into the night. Despite being terrified of most things, Mikayla could be easily dauntless of others, like the night and the silhouettes that came with it. She'd grown up around ghosts- it was humans that scared her.
She was dressed in a long coat, a silk scarf and simple converse shoes. The summer night was cool, and for once she was preoccupied enough to not be humming the tune to some song or the other. She was busy thinking about things, all the fun people she'd met tonight and all the interesting things they'd said. She loved her journey a lot already, despite what Cordelia had told her. Sinnoh was a nice place, just as nice if not nicer than her imagination led her to believe, and it would be a hard task to make her smile any less dazzling in the dimly lit streets.
Unfortunately, it wasn't as difficult as she'd like it to be. In front of her, there were two men walking, one a little taller than the one in front of him, and as they walked by, the taller boy's hand brushed against the other man's back pocket, and while she couldn't really judge people for being gay, when it sunk in that the boy had stolen some off the other man it took a hard bite to her tongue to keep from gasping.
So the whole rumors of thieves and the like in Sinnoh were true! Obviously, the media never lied to her, did it? She watched the taller man disappear into a shadow, and followed the shorter man for a while long before she suddenly stopped walking, thought very long and hard and finally came to a decision. She spun on her heel and walked as quietly as she good (she was surprisingly stealthy for her personality), and made it back to the alley she'd seen him disappear to.
His dark blue hair was illuminated by the light of a phone that he held to his ear, and he was saying something or the other, and when Mikayla caught a few choice words she let out a startle gasp, her head peeking out from the entrance of the alley.
this mission was a nice change from the earlier one he was assigned. he didn't even finish the earlier one, abandoning it as it wasn't worth his time. he actually got into a bit of trouble for the last mission. apparently stealing the contents of a galactic package didn't sit well with the higher-ups. but here he was, unharmed and fine.
tonight's mission was more up his alley; it was a simple pickpocketing mission. he's done these before so it wasn't anything new. the guy he had to pickpocket had a keycard that galactic wanted for some reason. he didn't ask why just as long as he got paid.
getting the security guard walking was easier than he thought. a simple inquiry about the building and he had the security guard following him. it only took him a few seconds before he could reach into the man's back pocket to retrieve the keycard. and once that was done he dismissed the guard and slipped off into an alley.
"galactic hq?" he spoke on the phone. he heard an audible gasp and turned and saw a girl spying on him. how ironic, he thought. he hung up the phone and walked out of the alley, pretending like he didn't see her.
"hello?" he called out as he approached the start of the alley.
the light of the phone went out just as she gasped, ad she noticed the man turn but all she caught were slightly blue eyes. or maybe that was just moon playing tricks on her. either way, the call ended abruptly, and she pulled her head away immediately from the entrance, thinking of all sorts of things, a thousand new words and scenarios resounding in her mind with every heartbeat.
she stumbled awkwardly as she stood up straight when the man greeted her, but hey. a guard of sorts had just gone past, and some of the lights in Sandgem weren't out. she reminded herself that she was a young girl, and then remembered how her aunt told her she could get anything once she had her weapons sharpened. she had meant screams and a few well hidden cans of pepper spray, right?
she gulped and looked at the man in the eye, only because it wasn't polite not to when talking to someone. "i-it's me?" she joked, but then didn't want to laugh because she felt it would come out all twisted and horrible. the streetlight flickered, and she must have been imagining it but she was certain that when the lights weren't there the boy's inquisitive look seemed more like a dark glare, and his bright and pale features seemed like they were scarred with the crisscrossing shadows of the night.
she was lost in thought, frozen in place, but then something click and she snapped back to reality. maybe it was the classic phone being shut off as soon as she entered the scene that reminded her some something else, far away from her now. a couple hundred miles, at least.
"w-wait! you're a member of galactic!" she shouted, her voice oddly shrill and very out of place in the quiet town of sandgem, where most were fast asleep.
while the girl might not have laughed at her own joke he did, letting out a chuckle at her response. he took a few moments to examine the girl, studying her expression to find out how to handle the situation. she looked worried, but not scared. maybe she didn't hear what he said on the phone?
but before he could even say anything the girl basically screamed and proclaimed to the whole sleeping town that he was in galactic. "c-calm down," he replied in a soft voice, a bit startled. he glanced around them to make sure that they had not attracted any unwanted attention.
"you're going to wake up the whole town," he commented. he decided to try and be as friendly as he could, hoping that she would just drop this and move on.
"what's your name?" he asked, wanting to sway the topic away from galactic. "and why are you out this late?" he added.
he forgot to deny her accusations that he was in galactic.
the boy's laugh didn't disarm her, it made mikayla even more on guard. it was strange, that was for sure. guys didn't usually laugh so casually, plus this was a weird situation to be in, so why was he laughing like it was normal? did it mean something? was making people laugh as easy as an overdone adele joke? she didn't know! it was an overload of questions and infromation, and mikayla's brain thought that (attempting to) process it would be for the best, to maybe distract her.
she was going to wake up the whole town. but wasn't that a good idea! he'd stolen something, hadn't he? it would be nice if all the lights went on, the boy was surrounded by people and he just gave back what he stole. that would be nice. she wasn't sure, but maybe if she woke up the whole town that could happen. "why do you want my name!" she snapped, voice less shrill but still as loud, a little more shaky than before. it was hard being strict. she tried to remind herself that he had stolen someone else's belongings. it worked.
"i was at a party... but you. yous stole something, didn't you? what did you steal? were you on the phone with galactic? you didn't deny it!"
the accusations flew out of her mouth and poured on his head like a waterfall, and her voice was still loud, but not as loud, almost like she was threatening him with her shouting alone. her eyes were hard and trying to be stern.
being friendly wasn't working out all too well for him. the girl was still basically shouting her responses and was not calming down at all. "i'm just curious," he responded to her first question. her next series of questions was when he snapped.
a hand sprung up to cover her mouth. there was a wall next to them so he shifted his position and pushed her against the wall, his hand still covering her mouth. he was careful not to be too rough, but he used enough force to make sure to get the message across.
"keep your voice down..." he whispered. he spared a glance over his shoulders to make sure the coast is clear; it was. "yes, i am galactic and yes, i stole something from that man," he answered truthfully.
"i'm going to remove my hand but if you scream again i can't promise you anything," he said. he slowly retracted his hand away, about ready to pounce again if she screamed.
just curious? that was dumb! even the most uncivil of all men knew they had to introduce themselves first before asking for a lady's name. that statement alone was enough to make her want to shout again, but she opened her mouth and all she could shout into was someone else's hand, and then she was trying to shout but she couldn't hear her voice, and that was the scariest thing that happened all night.
she kicked the ground and grabbed at his wrist, and resisted until the moment her back was shoved to the wall and her head made a bit of a clang against the firm brick wall, at which she let a little bit of whimper before nodding, and then breathing out as soon as the hand was removed. her bangs hid her face, until the boy actually had the audacity to ask her another question. mikayla snapped, and in her rage she attempted to slap him straight across the cheek.
"how dare you lay your hands on me!" she whisper-shouted, seemingly scandalled that the boy actually touched her and not, however, worried about much else. but then the light of the streetlamp flickered and again and she jumped backwards and her imagination went wild. a galactic member! he probably murdered dedennes in his freetime and skinned mareep for the funsies! she was breathing heavily, obviously scared but somehow still clinging on.
she still looked angry, and even though she was a few steps away, she likely hadn't lost her resolve to "do the right thing." this wasn't going to end well.
liam saw the slap coming but he took it anyway, there was very little he could have done to avoid it. and besides, he knew he deserved it. normally he would never be that physical but he was desperate to shut her up. it somewhat worked, at least she was trying to be softer now.
"ouch," he muttered as he brought a hand up to his cheek. the side of his face stung and he felt it start to burn as he touched it. his eyes followed her as the light flickered, watching her jump back. was she scared of him? possibly.
"please, don't act like a boy's never touched you like that before," he scoffed. he rubbed his cheek again before backing off, calming down a little. he was still curious about something though, so he asked.
"are you scared of me because of galactic or because i touched you?" he asked.
her softness was forced, and her throat was brungin to shout at him again, to shout until the lights went on and someone came to her room to ask her why she was screaming, and what kind of nightmare she saw. the light flickered. the boy looked terrifying, and the fear paralyzed her legs.
but then he spoke again, and she scoffed. "you're stupid. you don't count as other guys i've met, so why are you comparing yourself to them?" she didn't get it. she wasn't disgusted because he was a boy (or at least, she didn't want to think that way) but rather because he was a galactic boy. that was trouble. "you're hands are dirty!" she was shouting again, but only slightly. she hoped.
"i'm scared of you because of neither!" her voice was getting louder. she couldn't help it, it was getting too heated, and mikayla never knew when to shut up. it always got her into trouble with the girls at school, and here it was, a hundred miles and several years later, getting her into a mess again. "i'm afraid of you because you're scary! you stole something because someone told you to, and you gagged a girl with your bare hands!"
she's scared now, because she thinks he's going to attack her again, and because her head's still throbbing from the last contact with the building.
for some reason the girl started to get angrier and angrier with every ticking second. "but you forced me to because you wouldn't shut up," he said. thoughts circled through his head now as he thought of what to do. should he just leave her here and hope she doesn't report him for theft and assault?
this would have been much easier if he had not laid his hands on the girl. it was basically his word versus hers, but now that he's grabbed her he was in trouble.
"you think galactic is that bad?" he asked, getting more heated himself now. his eyes stared at the girl as he spoke, his voice no longer whispering.
"i'm innocent compared to other galactics," he added. he thought about it for a second and nodded to himself. "i'm taking you to meet the bad galactics," he said.
there was a bit of space between them so there was always room to run. but he reached forward in an attempt to grab her wrist with the intent of literally dragging her to the galactic hideout.
she's definitely not the smartest tool in the shed, and knows that as a fact, but honestly whatever this guy says sounds dumb. just because the other galactics are worse than him, why should she care? that was like saying mikayla was comparatively more evil than a few babies. oh well, that didn't make sense. she was thinking too much again.
he began closing the space, but then mikayla let out a scream and pulled her hand back as soon as his fingers so much as brushed against her wrists. "kyaaaaaa!" it was loud. but she didn't care. the light of a window of the building they were standing by suddenly went on, but mikayla didn't care. she just wanted out. she spun and ran away, her black hair tailing after her, passing by the window and making strange shadows on the ground.
she ran as fast as she could, which wasn't all that fast, but still, she didn't look back. and as long as she didn't look back, the shadows couldn't catch up to her, right?
