major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
Orvis had stayed back at his old house for the night, though could barely sleep at all due to the excitement he had for today. It had been almost a week since he departed with Caine and a lot can happen in such a short amount of time! Orvis had been exploring new places and strengthening his bond with his pokemon (some old and some new).
"Oh my gosh I'm so excited!"
Orvis was standing at one side of the public arena, his pokemon had been registered into the computer for the big screen to show up and all he was waiting for was Caine now. Orvis was early to be fair, so he didn't mind waiting for a little bit.
The arena was plain and simple, a dirt ground with the basic pokemon arena style painted across it. To the right was a large wall with a screen on it to display health bars and on the left were benches for people to sit on.
[attr="class","jarluctitle"] You say it isn't hard?
[attr="class","jarlucpic"]
[attr="class","jarluctext"] It had been a week since Orvis had jumped into his boat and zapped the pokemon in the lake. Caine wondered just how much stronger Orvis' pokemon had gotten within that week, for him to suddenly take up Caine on his offer for a battle. The galactic spy smiled to himself. Oh, this would be a fun battle indeed.[break][break] As he walked down the streets, following the directions of people he'd ask, he finally came across the public arena.[break][break] Caine hadn't expected such a fancy arena.[break][break] Heck, he hadn't even known about the arena in Veilstone. He basically lived in the city, especially since it was the Galactic HQ. It would only make sense for him to know these places, and yet he'd somehow foolishly overlooked this massive stadium. He had assumed that it would be something simple, possibly Colosseum style, with open benches for anyone interested to just drop in and watch.[break][break] Not fancy gadgets that registered the pokemon's HP. However, it was interesting to see his pokemon's stats and health bars appear on the large screen as he registered his pokemon. He'd hoped to use the element of surprise in the battle, but the screen cut down on that. No matter, he'd simply fight his hardest.[break][break] "Hello there, Orvis!" Caine called as he stepped into the arena. "How've you been?"[break][break] He walked briskly to the section opposite the trainer and smiled. An automatic voice resounded through the arena, letting the both of them know that the battle would start as soon as the countdown ended. On the large screen, Caine could see numbers counting down from five. At the moment, a prominent, white 3 on a blue background was being displayed. Caine grinned at the other trainer as he settled on the pokemon he'd send out.[break][break] "Let's have a good match," he said, preparing for battle.
[attr="class","jarluclyric"] When those eyes in the mirror stare back at me, I'm reminded that the ghost of pride is clear to see.
Two golden eyes lit up at the sight of Caine entering the open arena, his smile growing big the moment he said hello. Orvis couldn't help but give him a big wave as his left hand reached for the first pokeball.
"Hi! I've been alright, it's good to see you again!"
His attention was quickly diverted to the sound of a countdown beginning, the numbers on the screen getting smaller and smaller until...
'DING'
"Battle start."
Orvis' grip tightened as he brought his arm back before throwing it forwards, the pokeball releasing a flash of red as Freyja the snorunt was revealed. The hat pokemon yawned, clearly tired as always but Orvis knew just how much she had improved in just a short amount of time. All it took for Freyja was to see just how good she could be if she put her mind to it, for example, she managed to freeze pokemon for the first time a few days ago!
Slightly nervous at the sight of a strong pokemon like Gliscor, he instinctively tugged at his sleeve, something he did when he was worried.
"Well then, let's begin! Freyja, hail and blizzard. Go!"
Making a cute squealing sound, almost as if she was singing, Freyja started to gather an immense amount of ice and snow around her tiny body. Before long, hail started to rain down from above. Then, her body shone a dazzling white as huge chunks of ice and snow were sent hurtling at Gliscor.
[attr="class","jarluctitle"] You say it isn't hard?
[attr="class","jarlucpic"]
[attr="class","jarluctext"] A bell-like sound resounded through the open space and as the voice announced the Battle Start, Caine felt anticipation and excitement growing in his gut.[break][break] "Alright, Valen, you're up." Caine tossed out the pokeball, revealing his gliscor. However, he quickly realized that the match-up that had occured had put him completely at a disadvantage.[break][break] Orvis had sent out a snorunt, an ice type. Valen, being rock and flying, would not be better off in this battle. Chewing on his bottom lip, Caine's mind whirled as he tried to think of a battle strategy.[break][break] Above all things, he had not expected the small snorunt to release such a powerful attack. Hail and blizzard? Caine's jaw set as he watched the blizzard swirl into being and flinched as he saw his own pokemon get pummeled by the icy shards. He winced as flecks of hail pelted him in the face. That hurt.[break][break] "Acrobatics," Caine called, raising his voice so it could be overheard through the howling wind of the Blizzard. The gliscor nimbly flew through the air, still being pelted by the frosty flakes, and lashed out at the snorunt with the acrobatic attack.[break][break] As Valens returned to Caine's side, he could hear the pokemon whimpering as the hail continued to strike it. Caine himself, shielding his face from the hail, tried to give the pokemon a reassuring smile. "Hang on just a little longer," he said.[break][break] Perhaps Orvis would be a tougher opponent than he expected. [break][break] Caine bit his lip as he decided on his Gliscor's next move. "Slash."[break][break] At his instruction, the gliscor would burst forward, claws ready to rip into the small snorunt.
[attr="class","jarluclyric"] When those eyes in the mirror stare back at me, I'm reminded that the ghost of pride is clear to see.
This was what he loved, knowing he could rely on his pokemon to give it everything they have. Of course he checked with all of them first, he would have hated to throw them into a fight if they didn't want to. Glad that the blizzard hat hit the Gliscor, he prepared for the next incoming attack.
First was acrobatics, striking downwards as the opposing pokemon swiftly slammed into Snorunt before reaching out with an outstretched sharp claw.
"Protect!"
Snorunt summoned forth a barrier of blue light, defending herself against slash. But now the gliscor was close, a perfect place for another blizzard.
"Blizzard again!"
Large chunks of snow began to form, accompanied by chunks of ice before they were thrown at Gliscor like an angry swarm of beedril. No matter how many times it tried to dodge, the blizzard would always meet it's mark in a hail storm.
[attr="class","jarluctitle"] You say it isn't hard?
[attr="class","jarlucpic"]
[attr="class","jarluctext"] Caine growled with frustration as the snorunt quickly put up a protective barrier, rendering the Slash ineffective. Valen didn't look too pleased either, and he kept swiping at the barrier, though to no avail.[break][break] He knew Valen was giving his all, but the type disadvantage didn't help. And apparently the snorunt had the amazing ice body ability, allowing it to recover health in the hail.[break][break] The snorunt's next attack of blizzard was devastating. The ice pelted the gliscor with so much force that Valen could no longer handle it, and had to sink down to avoid the higher-velocity winds at the top of the arena. Caine could see from the large screen at the back that Valen's health was dangerously low.[break][break] And unfortunately, the Hail caused the pokemon to faint.[break][break] Caine bit his lip as he called back his fainted pokemon. "You did great, Valen," he whispered to the pokeball before tucking it back onto his belt. The galactic spy would deliberate on his next pokemon for a few seconds before swiping one off his belt and tossing it into the air. "Byrn," he called.[break][break] The charizard roared as it emerged, hail pelting its face. It winced as the icy flakes pelted its face, but the hail didn't do much to affect the fire type. Caine pointed at the snorunt, jaw set with determination. "Flamethrower," he ordered.[break][break] The charizard opened its maw, letting out a blast of flames, a roar of fire that tore its way through the hail and towards the snorunt.
[attr="class","jarluclyric"] When those eyes in the mirror stare back at me, I'm reminded that the ghost of pride is clear to see.
Yes! Orvis and Freyja did it! Honestly, he wanted to run onto the arena and spin her around in a big hug, but that would just have to wait.
Orvis was also quite curious of Caine. Upon meeting him the first time, he seemed as if he was very headstrong in reaching his goals and from all his questions about catching pokemon, very analytical. Seeing him with his pokemon was nice, he was kind and still thrilled to fight. But he also thought Caine was kind of on the same level as Orvis in terms of experience. He was wrong.
"Oh crap."
The charizard who went by the name of Byrn roared, asserting his dominance of the battle field which was clearly understandable. Fire did not bode well with ice at all. Freyja was obviously scared, glancing back to Orvis regularly for support.
"Don't worry Freyja, we got this!"
Hot red flames poured from the jaw of the dragon, scorching the earth and melting ice along its way towards Freyja.
"Double team!"
Her body flickered, dodging the attack and soon there were multiple snorunts all over the battlefield. Each one staring at Charizard with that extremely creepy gaze.
"Headbutt!"
One by one, each image jumped forwards and dived towards Charizard from each angle. Orvis just hoped it would be enough to keep her in the fight.
[attr="class","jarluctitle"] You say it isn't hard?
[attr="class","jarlucpic"]
[attr="class","jarluctext"] Caine gave a grim smile as he saw the snorunt dodge the charizard's ferocious fire attack. He'd hoped the fire attack would succeed, but the snorunt had managed to avoid it with double team. From Orvis' surprised face, as well as the snorunt's scared look, he could tell that they had underestimated him, and had not expected such a large attack.[break][break] How funny, that they had underestimated each other.[break][break] Caine watched as Orvis gave his snorunt the command of double team, upping its speed and creating afterimages of the pokemon. His next command, headbutt, semt the multitudes of snorunts jumping at Byrn, and Caine quickly yelled out an order. "FLY!"[break][break] The charizard soared into the air, out of the snorunt's reach of attack with headbutt, thus avoiding the blows. The snorunt was left below. Byrn climbed into the sky and Caine called out another command. [break][break] "Flamethrower!" he yelled. Byrn followed immediately, and the charizard roared and let loose another douse of flames at the ice type.[break][break] Caine could tell that the hail was still proving detrimental. The charizard's eyes were closing as it winced while it was pelted with hail. Caine could only bite his lip and hope that the hailstorm would end as soon as he got the snorunt out of the battle.
[attr="class","jarluclyric"] Sorry, short post is short :/
Well they both had tricks up their sleeves. Orvis couldn't help but smile as Charizard evaded the attack, the way a powerful pokemon could also move so elegantly. It wasn't every day he got to see cool pokemon like this. Then came the flamthrower, Orvis tried to shout out to Freyja but the distance and roar of the snow storm just drowned out his voice. There was no escaping this fire attack.
Snorunt looked back at Orvis with a smile, she knew she had lost this fight but was still proud to be his pokemon. She gave a quick wink before her body was shrouded by hot red fire. As the fire faded, Orvis happily retrieved her into the pokeball.
"Caine I had no idea you have such a strong pokemon!"
Orvis laughed, sounding very impressed at his opponents skill. Thinking quickly, he'd grab the next pokeball, clicking the button and letting it grow in his hands.
"Okay Chaac, rain dance!"
The ball flew through the air, releasing the castform that Caine was familiar with (including his attacks). Hopefully though that wouldn't be too much of an issue. Castform's body changed into the water form as hail turned into rain, splashing along the ground.
"Thunder!"
Castform squeezed his eyes shut, summoning forth a storm in the sky as the once blue skies turned into thick dark clouds. Within a matter of seconds, an arc of electricity shot down like an arrow straight towards Charizard.
[attr="class","jarluctitle"] You say it isn't hard?
[attr="class","jarlucpic"]
[attr="class","jarluctext"] Caine felt relieved that the fire attack had hit. For a moment, he'd been worried that the snorunt would have been able to dodge. He gave Byrn an affirmative nod of the head that told both of them that the fire type had done a good job.[break][break] Caine waited as Orvis commented on the strength of his pokemon, and he gave a wry smile in reply. "Thanks. I didn't know your pokemon were so tenacious," he remarked admiringly. And indeed, the snorunt that he'd thought would've been easy prey to the charizard had managed to avoid the attack and even attempt its own attack. He wondered what Orvis would pull out next. He had a suspicion, but...[break][break] He was proven correct. The trainer tossed out his castform, which was perfectly suited against Caine's charizard. However, Caine would get Byrn to attack it as fiercely as he could.[break][break] Aaaaand of course, the castform used Rain Dance. Caine slowly watched as his charizard frowned at the sudden change in weather that would dampen its powers. Caine, on the other hand, was not pleased to be soaking wet again. However, it was a battle - such a thing was to be expected.[break][break] "It seems as if I always get drenched whenever you're around," Caine chuckled, giving Orvis a smile. And then Orvis gave the order of Thunder.[break][break] The white bolt of energy crashed down and Caine didn't even have time to give Byrn an order. The charizard roared with pain as the bolt streaked through it, electrifying it. Caine, anxious, glanced at the large screen. Thankfully, Byrn was not paralyzed, but the attack had done significant damage. He bit on his lip as he planned his next move.[break][break] "Dragon Pulse," he finally uttered after some deliberation. The weakened charizard let out a pulse of energy towards the castform, a glowing blue-and-red mixture of color in the shape of a beam. Caine knew his charizard had no moves that would be effective against the now water-type castform and so he could only hope for a critical hit.
[attr="class","jarluclyric"] When those eyes in the mirror stare back at me, I'm reminded that the ghost of pride is clear to see.
Electricity pulsated through the fire and flying type, clearly obvious that it had hurt the charizard by quite the amount. Upon hearing Caine's comment about getting soaked all the time, Orvis burst out into laughter and clutched his stomach.
"Hahaha! Having a pokemon that controls the weather sure is fun, ain't that right Chaac?"
"Castfoorm!"
Jokes aside, Orvis glanced back at the Charizard who was now building up quite the attack in that powerful jaw of his. The dragon pulse tore through the air and rain, enveloping Chaac like a wave of water.
"Chaac, you okay?!"
Castform nodded, giving Orvis a brave smile with determination in his eyes. This was the first time he had ever been like this, ready and excited to fight... He wasn't afraid of being weak or what others thought of him.
"Okay then! Hydro pump and thunder, use them at the same time!"
Chaac looked at Orvis nervously, what did he mean at the same time? Well, an order was an order and the castform would do just that.
Rain started to be drawn towards castform, spiralling around him in a spherical shape before being unleashed at Charizard. Then, the thunder struck down on the hydro pump, the water conducting the electricity is it sent sparks everywhere.
[attr="class","jarluctitle"] You say it isn't hard?
[attr="class","jarlucpic"]
[attr="class","jarluctext"] Caine gave another faint smile. Indeed, controlling the weather was an amazing ability to have. Orvis must be quite the trainer to have such a powerful pokemon following him.[break][break] His eyes were trained on the castform's HP bar as the dragon pulse attack hit, enveloping the smaller pokemon. He watched with some relief as the pokemon's HP bar went down. However, it was a long way to go before the castform fainted. Caine turned his attention back to Orvis and his castform to see something extraordinary.[break][break] Was the castform just ordered to use both hydropump and thunder?[break][break] Caine felt a sinking feeling in his gut. This would not end well. [break][break] Thunder struck the jet of water, causing sparks to fly everywhere as the water was not only charged with electricity but also had some evaporate upon the bolt's impact. Steam filled the area and Caine could only watch, horrified, as his charizard was drenched and electrocuted at the same time. He knew instinctively, even before he looked at the screen, that Byrn would no longer be able to fight.[break][break] The pokemon was recalled to its pokeball and Caine quietly whispered a thank you to the fainted pokemon. He then unclipped another pokemon from his belt...Oh this would be a good chance to test his new pokemon's strength.[break][break] "Da Vinci," he called, releasing the pokemon from its encasing. In a bright light, emerged a Zweilous.[break][break] Captured on one of his recent expeditions to the base of Mt. Coronet, he's been so pleased to catch a deino. Caine was extremely happy with this pokemon and hoped it would prove its strength.[break][break] "Da Vinci, use crunch. Then Slam." he said. The two-headed dark dragon gave Caine a confirming nod before it shrieked and charged at the castform with full intent to bite into its frame, then slam it into the ground.[break][break] Caine gave a grim smile. Let's see how Orvis deals with that.
[attr="class","jarluclyric"] When those eyes in the mirror stare back at me, I'm reminded that the ghost of pride is clear to see.
The attack worked perfectly. The charizard was soaked in water before being electrocuted and was soon withdrawn from battle. Chaac was ecstatic with his victory, the small tiny castoform just defeated a charizard?! Orvis cheered him, making him cry with glee.
What happened next was a turn for the worse. In the fire pokemon's place was a zweilous, a rare dragon pokemon.
"So I see you found yourself a dragon pokemon, I'm so happy for you!"
But the zweilous moved quickly. Darting forwards, the double headed pokemon crunched down on Chaac with a dark power before slamming it to one side with immense power. So this was the power of a dragon? No wonder Caine was so intent of finding one. Retrieving Chaac from the field, he'd quickly toss in a pokemon he knew would have a type advantage over this pokemon.
"Go, Demetria!"
Looking beautiful and modest as always, the wormadam tilted her head downwards in the most elegant fashion. But one should be careful around her, beauty can be deceiving.
But it appeared Caine was not intent on fighting the bug with his dragon. He withdrew Zweilous and sent out Medicham, another strong pokemon.
"Haha! I'm starting to think you were acting as if you didn't have an arsenal of strong pokemon at your waist on the boat? Oh well. Demetria, use toxic and bug bite!"
Demetria lurched forwards in the rain, the droplets glistening on her lush leaves as she spewed a poisonous liquid towards Medicham. Her long elongated beak quickly glowed a turquoise colour as she lunged in to jab the pokemon with bug bite.
[attr="class","jarluctitle"] You say it isn't hard?
[attr="class","jarlucpic"]
[attr="class","jarluctext"] Caine smiled as he looked upon his zweilous. Indeed, he'd been ecstatic to catch it. No doubt Orvis remembered when Caine asked about whether he knew of where to catch dragon pokemon.[break][break] Da Vinci surged forward and bit down on the castform before slamming it to the side. Caine simply watched as Orvis withdrew the hurt castform and tossed out another pokemon, this one a wormadam.[break][break] Caine withdrew the zweilous as Orvis sent out a wormadam. From what he'd seen previously, the Zweilous could inflict a lot of damage. It would be a waste to use it against a completely fresh pokemon, with full HP and a type advantage.[break][break] Caine contemplated his pokemon carefully before selecting a pokeball and throwing it onto the playing field. "Ajax," he called to the emerging pokemon.[break][break] The medicham began to immediately scream with fury, yelling out the kind of sounds one would make if they were in the middle of a karate fight. Caine buried his face in his hands at the pokemon's tactics. "Ajax, please, quiet down, oh my god," he mumbled. The pokemon acted so...out of control... that it was embarrassing for the Galactic Spy, who prouded himself on his well-disciplined pokemon.[break][break] Ajax quieted, but only marginally. And that was only because the other trainer was speaking. Caine grinned at Orvis. "Hah, no, my pokemon were not this strong last week. But your pokemon are really strong, too!" Caine chuckled slightly. "I was expecting to see a Corsola but instead you had a snorunt with blizzard? Sheesh!"[break][break] Caine listened to Orvis' orders for his wormadam - bug bite and toxic. He frowned as he deliberated on Ajax's next move. "Feint to dodge, then use Confusion." he ordered to the Medicham. Ajax would glance at Caine, give the galactic a thumbs up, then let loose a stream of unintelligible yells as it proceeded to charge forward. The wormadam's bug bite would miss as Ajax took a sudden turn, dodging away from the attack, then used confusion.[break][break] Too late, Caine remembered he'd forgotten about the toxic attack. "Damn," he hissed as he noticed the attack beginning to take effect. The medicham cried out in pain as it was affected by the poison that had begun to flow in its veins.[break][break] Perhaps the wormadam would be affected by confusion...
