major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
[attr="class","jarcainereply1"] Caine had wanted a quick break and so he'd come to Lake Acuity to get some peace and quiet. He wasn't one to swim too much, but he did enjoy boating, and so he'd rented a small rowboat from a small boat rental place and had taken it out onto the still azure lake.[break][break] Frankly, he'd wanted to both relax and try to catch some pokemon. He'd gotten pretty busy in Team Galactic, and he was constantly swamped in paperwork or books due to his obsession with the legendary pokemon. He enjoyed the slight rocking of the boat as he rowed towards the lake's center - the furthest point from land, but also the most dangerous. If a storm ever decided to brew through, then Caine was in trouble. A quick glance at the sky told him that no such thing would occur - the sun shone brightly, nearly blinding him as he turned his head. Squinting his turquoise eyes, he paddled further.[break][break] Dang, the water looked fine. Perhaps he'd take a dip...but no. He put a hand into the water and felt how cold it was - freezing. Shaking his head, he withdrew his hand. He wasn't one to get very wet.[break][break]
First impressions of Orvis when you first see him? Crazy, stupid, screw loose, but he was definitely someone who brought life everywhere he went. So it was no surprise that the young man was swimming around in the lake, freezing cold as well, but did he care? Nope, not at all. Laughing and splashing around with his pokemon, Aella the corsola, Orvis would swim around the lake close to the island in the middle. Unfortunately for Orvis, he had no idea how dangerous these waters were, or perhaps he was just too stupid to care? Either way, he decided to play a little game of ‘dodge the angry corsolas bubble beam’ in the lake.
Aella was always a pain, but of course Orvis still adored her. Sure she was angry and tried to start a fight with everything she saw, but Orvis loved her unconditionally, just like every other pokemon he encounters.
“Aella! You’re a bit rusty today, you can’t seem to hit me at all!”
Orvis teased the pokemon, paddling side to side as the bubbles tried to blast him, this only infuriated Aella more and eventually she tackled him square in the face.
“Agh! Hahaha! There we go! Huh? Oh look, a boat!”
Orvis and Aella both turned around to see a small rowing boat in the distance, Orvis just had to go see them (plus the fact he was getting tired and needed a rest, swimming all the way out here was not a good idea). Him and Aella both swam towards the boat, excited to see who it was rowing it.
[attr="class","jarcainereply1"] Caine was surprised to see splashing that seemed to approach him. Was someone swimming in the middle of the lake? His nose scrunched as he thought of just how cold the figure might be, swimming in this frigid water.[break][break] As the figures got closer, he could see that one was definitely a man - dark haired and apparently a very good swimmer to make it this far from the lakeshore - and the other was a Corsola. The pink pokemon looked annoyed, and it sprayed the other man constantly. Caine could feel a smile creep on his face as he watched the comical duo.[break][break] Obviously, the man was swimming towards Caine and his boat, and so the galactic grunt stopped rowing to allow them to approach. When they did, he shifted his weight in the event that if the other man grabbed onto his boat, he could still stay in balance. The man fixed his golden eyes on Caine's green ones and grinned.[break][break] Caine wasn't sure what to do in this situation. It wasn't often he met people in the middle of a lake, especially one who had swum all this way. In response to the greeting, Caine replied cordially. "Hello. How are you?"[break][break] Always a good way to strike up a conversation.
Not hesitating, Orvis would climb onto the boat, helping his corsola up as well. Unfortunately he didn’t have anything to dry off, so he just sat down in nothing but his wet soggy swim shorts.
“Yo, thanks for letting me on. Didn’t really think before I decided to swim all the way out here haha.”
Orvis quickly withdrew Aella back into her pokeball, just in case she decided to go a bit haywire and attack the guy. Shaking his head like a wet dog, Orvis would stretch upwards and let out a content sigh.
“I’m Orvis by the way, pokemon trainer enjoying life and all that jazz. Sorry, I hope I’m not intruding on your little boat ride, just thought I’d come and say hello to the only other person out here haha!”
[attr="class","jarcainereply1"] The man climbed into the boat.[break][break] Caine could only protest feebly as the man welcomed himself onto the rental rowboat, which swayed dangerously as the man revealed his frame. No wonder - the guy was much taller and better built than the scrawny galactic grunt. Caine had to sit at the far edge of his seat to prevent the boat from rocking. He glared a little at the trainer - why the heck had he just invited himself on board? He hadn't even given any warning before he began to climb into the boat![break][break] Thanks for letting him on? He hadn't exactly invited him, but fine. Too late now. Caine stared slightly dismally at the water pooling inside the small wooden boat. He watched as the other man's corsola retreated into its pokeball. And now Caine was irritated because the man began to shake his head, spraying water everywhere.[break][break] So much for staying dry today.[break][break] Caine sighed. "Well you've already intruded enough. I don't suppose I can push you overboard without endangering myself. So yes, hello." He placed the oars to provide drag so the boat would stay in the same position. He looked down at his drenched shirt and gave a wry smile "And the person you've drenched so happily is named Caine."[break][break] So, Orvis was a pokemon trainer? Then Caine would have to watch out. He didn't want this trainer to find out that he was a galactic...
Orvis was one of those people that didn’t realise when someone was annoyed or upset with him, he just continued to be annoying and overly friendly which was probably one of the reasons he never made any close friends as a kid… Aha. Glancing at the now slightly soggy Caine, he laughed slightly and bowed down.
“Sorry man, I’d dry you off somehow but… Oh wait!”
Grabbing a pokeball, he’d toss it up into the air, releasing his castform in a dazzling flash of red. Chaac was ever so adorable, but also extremely shy. Quickly, he’d hover behind Orvis as he was always wary of new people.
“Hey Chaac, can you do me a favour and use sunny day? I accidentally soaked our new friend here, it would be nice to dry off too!”
Chaac nodded, smiling at Orvis and whooshed up into the air, glowing a bright red as he changed forms with the weather. Already Orvis could feel the heat against his skin, nothing too hot but not too cold that it didn’t evaporate the water.
“Thanks Chaac!”
‘BUMP’
Something had hit the bottom of the boat, making it shake side to side. Then, it started to move rather fast in a circular motion. Before the two knew it, the boat was stuck in a whirlpool caused by a clamperl that made itself known by popping its head up from the surface.
Then, it used water gun which hit Chaac badly due to his fire typing.
“Ah crap! I’m really sorry about this Caine but...Use rainy day and thunder on clamperl!”
Definitely Chaac’s favourite move, the sun was replaced by a large storm cloud in the air before rain started pummeling down. While it may have boosted water type move, it also gives Thunder 100% accuracy. It was always so adorable watching Chaac use thunder, a pokemon so small and cute releasing an incredible amount of power.
The arc of yellow and white sliced through the rain like a knife through a poffin, cracking striking the clamperl before it also conducted through the lake....
A few angry roars could be heard from the sudden jolt of electricity, Orvis laughed nervously, he forgot about the whole electricity/ water thing.
“Haha… oops.”
Not wanting to waste any time fighting, Orvis hurled a pokeball at the clamperl who was now currently paralysed. But while he was busy sorting that out, he didn’t notice the angry Staryu that popped up on the other side of the boat. Looks like the two were about to fend off a lot of angry pokemon.
[attr="class","jarcainereply1"] Caine gave a wry smile as the other man bowed before him. He was wet and not exactly happy, but this person's antics were indeed amusing. He began to squeeze water out of his shirt. "It's fine," he said, albeit a little gruffly. But the man had a bright idea and summoned a Castform to dry him off. Caine was pleasantly surprised.[break][break] "Thanks," he said, feeling the warmth of a sunny day on his skin. It felt good to be dry once again. Then the boat began to rock.[break][break] "What the-" A staryu and a clamperl emerged, the clamperl looking slightly angry. The castform, in its fire type, cried out as it was hit with a water attack. His eyes widened with forethought as dread began to build in his stomach while he saw Orvis give him an apologetic glance over his shoulder. Oh crap.[break][break] So much for being dry. The sky darkened as rain began to pour down as thunder and lightning closed in on the horizon. A bolt struck the lake - thank goodness wood wasn't very conductive - but it paralysed the clamperl...and probably all the pokemon in the lake. The staryu, which stared at Caine balefully, looked shocked.[break][break] Caine watched as Orvis threw a pokeball at the Clamperl. No doubt the trainer had maybe a screw loose, but Caine had to admit that he seemed like a genuinely nice, friendly person. Who unfortunately had gotten Caine wet twice.[break][break] He sighed. He didn't particularly want the staryu, but it sure seemed to want a fight, so he grabbed a pokeball and tossed it, releasing the Eelectrike within. "Torrin, attack."[break][break] The electric type struck with a charged beam of electricity, striking the water type from the front. The staryu looked paralysed with fear - or at least, it probably didn't like the smile that the Eelectrike was giving. Torrin attacked again, this time using Spark. The staryu fainted and began to sink underwater.[break][break] Oops. He'd been a little too rough with it. Caine watched as the star-shaped pokemon disappeared into the darkness of the lake, brows furrowed with slight concern. He hadn't wanted to make it faint, but rather to chase it off... oh well.[break][break] Caine turned his gaze back on Orvis. His alabaster hair, wet and dripping, was falling into his face so he brushed it out of the way. "Well, I'm wet again. But considering the fact that you've probably angered every single pokemon in this lake, it doesn't really matter - I can't get any wetter than I am now, right?" He flashed a smirk as he kept his eyes on the water. Caine was hoping to see a gyarados or magikarp...[break][break][break] Torrin used Charge Beam![break]Torrin used Spark![break]Defeated Staryu.
[attr="class","jarcainereply1"] Caine eyed the waters warily for other angry pokemon. Suddenly, one appeared on either side of the boat, causing small waves to splash lakewater into the tiny rowboat. Caine grabbed the sides to steady himself, and surveyed the situation.[break][break] There was a seel and a poliwag, with the poliwag to his left and seel to his right. The poliwag was closer to them and was glaring at Caine. Suddenly, the sky began to pour again, as the poliwag had used rain dance. Caine sighed and directed his Eelectrike to attack the angry pokemon.[break][break] "Charge Beam," he said simply. The attack hit the poliwag and it jumped as if shocked - which it was. Caine quickly withdrew a pokeball from his bag and hefted it at the paralysed pokemon. He called back Torrin, wanting to give the eel pokemon a rest.[break][break] Now he was positively soaked. Caine squeezed as much water out of his shirt as he possibly could and directed a small grin in Orvis' direction. "I suppose you don't have some sort of move that could keep us both from getting wet?" he said with a small chuckle.[break][break][break] Captured Poliwag
He wasn't too sure. This guy on the boat with him seemed like the smart type so maybe he'd have some advice? Ah what the hell, when did Orvis ever listen to useful advice anyway? He just thought of something and did it!
"Double thunder!"
Lightning struck castform before being channelled towards Seel. The first strike was blocked with aurora beam, freezing some of the lake before the second bolt struck it. Then shards of ice were hurled at Chaac, slicing against his squidgy body. Orvis laughed at Caine's comment about getting dry and this time he had a plan.
"Alright then! Chaac, we need to do this quickly. Sunny day and solar beam!"
Chaac made a cute little squeak sound as he rose upwards, sun shining down before a dazzling blast of light struck Seel and left the surface of the lake around the boat steaming.
"I must say, this is the first time I've battled on a boat before and I'm having a lot of fun!"
Chaac used thunder ! Seel blocked it with aurora beam ! Chaac used Thunder ! It's super effective !! Seel used ice shard ! It's not very effective... Chaac used sunny day ! Chaac used solar beam ! It's super effective !!
[attr="class","jarcainereply1"] This trainer was pretty powerful, Caine noted to himself thoughtfully. Maybe he'd be useful in the future. But what the heck was double thunder?[break][break] As he watched the battle between Orvis and the Seel, he noted that perhaps, as ditzy as the man might have seemed, there was a brain in there after all. It wasn't often one would think to strike their own pokemon with a electric move so as to change type.[break][break] Orvis responded to Caine's comment with a laugh, and Caine simply gave a wry smile back. Perhaps the trainer's enthusiasm was contagious? Usually he'd be a bit more...upset...about it. Though he did admit, the golden-eyed man's antics were quite amusing. Far more so than two other golden-eyed admins that he knew. Perhaps all he had needed was a quick break so as to refresh.[break][break] Caine glanced back at the water. Perhaps to get his magikarp, he'd need a fishing rod? Well, he'd buy one next time.[break][break] "It's my first time battling on a boat as well," Caine admitted, thankful for the rays of sun that shone upon the two of them. Castform had a good moveset - perhaps he'd consider trying to catch one another time.[break][break] "Now, Orvis, was there any goal you had in mind for coming out here?" Caine asked the dark-haired male. He was simply curious as to the trainer's answer - it wasn't often that one chose to swim in a lake for leisure.
[attr="class","jarcainereply1"] Caine glanced down at two more angry pokemon that had appeared out of the blue. A Luvdisc and a corphish - neither interested him. With a sigh, he called out his Eelektrik: "Shock 'em, Torrin."[break][break] Torrin let out a blast of a Charged Beam, hitting the Luvdisc from the front. The attack was super effective and the Luvdisc sank under the waves to nurse its wounds.[break][break] Meanwhile, Caine called back the Eelektrik and glanced at Orvis before grabbing the oars. He expected the trainer to fight off the other pokemon as he began rowing - corphish was a small fry, there was no need to worry too much over it.[break][break] "Again, did you have a goal for coming out here?" he asked with a smile.[break][break][break] Eelektrik used Charge Beam![break]It's super effective![break]Luvdisc defeated.
It was this kind of motivation from Orvis that made it clear to others why he was a trainer. The castform blushed slightly, looking down awkwardly with a big goofy grin. Orvis turned round to face Caine, smiling as he sat down on the bench stretched his arms up.
"Goals? Pfft, oh I get it, you're one of those people that needs to have a purpose with everything? Am I right?"
Orvis chuckled, gently nudging the castform as if they had an inside joke going on.
"Well Caine, I guess you could say I'm somewhat of a free spirit. I don't really have goals, nor did I have a reason for swimming out here. I just see something and I do it. No questions asked."
The guy was pathetically naive, he was cute and adorable but at the same time stupid. Orvis had been in many life or death situations already, take his trip to snowpoint for example. He hadn't even reached halfway before he almost froze to death up there.
He glanced down to a motion in the water, a small corphish who had popped his head up to see what was going on up on the surface. Orvis bent over the baot slightly (though not enough to tip it) and held his hand out.
"Hi Corphish, how are you?"
Slowly, the pokemon would approach, holding out his pincer as he gently patted Orvis' hand before smiling and disappearing underwater. It always upset Orvis a bit how some wild pokemon were so afraid of humans, all they needed was a little reassurance and the fighting could be avoided. Though on the other hand, Orvis often found himself in wild pokemon battles.
[attr="class","jarcainereply1"] Caine gave the trainer an appreciative look as he watched the man kindly pat the corphish on the head and somehow dispel its anger. That was a useful skill to have, to placate a pokemon - or perhaps a person - and do so without arousal.[break][break] Caine had no such talents. He was slightly envious of the man, but life wasn't ever fair and Caine didn't expect it to be.[break][break] "Indeed, I'm someone who does have multiple aims," Caine admitted, starting to row. Dang, why was it so much harder to do so with two people in the boat? "I am not someone to drift about. Although I do see why one might enjoy that lifestyle."[break][break] He glanced at the scenery and took in a deep breath. He was actually feeling so much more cheery today, after getting away from the Galactic HQ for a while. It felt really nice to relax. [break][break] "Hey," Caine said suddenly. "Do you know whether we can get Magikarps here? I've been looking for one." Caine glanced down at the water again, slightly dejected that none had appeared. [break][break] "Oh yeah, would you like to have a friendly battle? I think it'd be good training for my pokemon," Caine added, as an afterthought. It seemed like it'd be a nice idea - just a small battle. Heck, they could row towards the mini island in the middle of the lake, therefore avoiding damaging the surroundings. If Orvis didn't want to, that was fine as well. Caine enjoyed battle, but nice friendly chats were welcome, too.
Honestly, Orvis had just had a lot of fun just now. Playing with his pokemon, met a new person and defended the boat from angry fish that he may or may not have electrified... Turning his head to face Caine again after he asked about a certain pokemon, Orvis tapped his chin while thinking.
"Magikarp? Heh, interesting pokemon, the way it can turn into something so strong. Well, I'd say wherever there's water, there's a magikarp."
Orvis glanced over the boat, splashing his hand in the lake as he watched the ripples spread out from the rowing boat.
"You'll probably need a rod? Magikarp's won't really approach you to fight, but they'll definitely take a bite on some bait."
Dumb as Orvis may be, he knew quite a lot about pokemon. He was quite the expert on environments, what food they liked and how to track them. Well, maybe not 'expert', but he was still pretty knowledgeable on this kind of stuff. But what Caine asked him next slightly shocked him.
"A battle? Eh, I don't know man..."
Orvis hated battling other pokemon just for the sake of... Well, battling. The trainer appeared to have quite the soft spot for his pokemons emotions and always made sure that they wanted to fight before sending them out. Glancing at the castform, who was already hurt from some previous attacks, Orvis shook his head.
"Sorry Caine but Chaac is pretty exhausted and... Well, I know this sounds stupid coming from a trainer but, I don't really like battling just for the sake of it. Haha, damn, I guess you could say I need a purpose to fight!"
Orvis laughed, finally discovering that he wasn't such a free spirit after all. Yeah, he'd throw himself at any obstacle that came his way without second thought but with battling, there had to be a reason.
"But I promise that the next time we meet, we can totally battle!"
[attr="class","jarcainereply1"] "A rod?" Caine echoed, pursing his lips. It would make sense - magikarp was a fish after all. A weak, pathetic fish, but it grew into something so powerful...[break][break] "How about dragons?" he asked. He'd searched nigh everywhere, but had not spotted a dragon in sight. It had disappointed the galactic spy, and frankly, he'd nearly given up on the elusive species. Perhaps this man had an inkling as to where they could find these creatures?[break][break] He'd expected the energetic man to eagerly agree to a battle. So it came as a surprise when he spoke otherwise, explaining that he didn't actually enjoy battling for fun. However, he could accept that indeed, the trainer's pokemon was tired. Caine on the other hand, had switched out his pokemon so therefore they were less tired than that castform.[break][break] Caine shrugged his shoulders. "No biggie," he replied. He did take note that this trainer was rather contradictory - one moment he said he didn't need goals, the next he said he needed a purpose to fight. The young spy wondered just what these goals were, but didn't want to pry. Instead, he smiled back at the trainer.[break][break] "Indeed, let's have a good battle next time. Now..." he glanced on either side of them and gave a light chuckle. "Maybe we should head back to shore?"[break][break][break] Would you like to wrap up the thread?
