The flickering and gathering of lights was so beautiful that she forgot that it was a city.
Illuminating what was already a bustling city were the light posts and rooms from the indoors. From faraway, Jubilife City would have looked like some night life metropolis. On the other hand, it was but a large city that circulated around it's large TV Station. Perhaps that was the brightest of them all.. The ginormous screen that you'd be able to see from the furtherst part. It broadcast the news channel, so you'd always have something to be watching while in Jubilife. It was perhaps the only city that she was familiar with in terms of environment. And yet it really had nothing on Lumiose City. Speaking of.. How was it doing? It would be nice if she could go and visit Kalos again sometime..
Colette shook off those thoughts, bringing her gaze back up at the large screen that loomed above her. She was sitting at the fountain in front of the TV Station, the only part of the city where there was a large grass patch smack dabbed in the middle. Despite the intense modernizatioin of the city, that one natural part was well kept. It was nice.
But what is a girl to do in this night? It was rather chilly, considering that it was nearing halloween. The autumn breeze brushed on by, blowing her braided twintails in the air breifly while her gloves hands gripped onto the stone of the fountain. "Hm.. Maybe I should find a place to stay tonight." The trainer pondered to herself, slowly bringing one hand to grip onto her other elbow. "Eheh.. I probably should have gotten a few more layers.." Great going.. Now you're going to freeze to death. Considering that she was only wearing a white dress, black leggings and a white hoodie.. No. She didn't have many layers to begin with.
As though on cue, one of her pokeballs opened up. Out flew a petite Swablu, gently resting on Colette's shoulder and wrapped it's fluffy wing along the back of her neck to save the chill. "Ah.. Thank you." Although it would have been nice if she had someone to speak to. It was getting late, and the streets were never safe in the dark. Even Swablu was trying to give her that hint, and her trainer could only stifle a weak and nervous giggle in response.
In the process of pushing her gloves hands off the fountain, a man who was about an head taller than her was standing in the shadows, with a Zubat accompanying him. He was hidden behind the where the lights didn't reach him, and Swablu couldn't shake off that wary feeling. Was someone stalking her trainer? Colette didn't seem to notice..

Cool. I'm just trying to be cool. Cool. I'm just trying to be cool. Cool. I'm just trying to be cool. Cool. I'm just trying to be cool.
He’s no stranger to the hustle, bustle or bluster. Jubilife keeps bright lights, but only to hide the dim bulbs. And cold winds graze the skin of those brave (or foolish) enough to walk through its moonlit streets alone. Johnny walks the line. The sidewalks seem innocuous enough. They’re paved, and relatively clean. But on certain corners and in certain alleys--well things weren’t quite as nice. Again, however, he was no stranger. He knew the deal.
Some people didn’t however. That could spell trouble.
In his peripheral vision he sees two things. A girl with a helplessly wholesome disposition. And a man. One who’s far too comfortable lurking in the dark. Or, at least, he would seem that way, had he not began making his way towards the girl the moment Johnny started looking.
The self-proclaimed hero hadn’t been noticed. That’s good. The element of surprise was always a boon. He doesn’t have much time to think about intervening, nor would he really care for such a thing; he’d seen where hesitating had gotten him before.
Then again, he’d also have physical injuries to point to the last time he got involved in strange business. Was he brave (or foolish) enough to take such a risk once more?
Of course he was.
”Hey… is that who I think it is?!” He shouts from across the street. The man’s attention is taken, and hopefully so is the girl’s. Even if not, Johnny proceeds to walk in a hurry to the fountain where the girl is sitting. ”Yo, it’s me, Johnny from the trainers' school! I haven’t seen you in ages.” Johnny sits on the fountain as well, taking great care to give the girl her personal space--there was already one creepy dude in the vicinity, and he didn’t need to play second fiddle.
”Man, it's insane the kind of people you run into in the middle of the night...” Johnny says all of this with a casual nod in the strange man’s direction, desperately hoping the girl (or her pokemon) picks up the hint. ”So, you doing okay?”

Something was amiss, and Swablu could practically feel it in her bones. Or.. Feathers? Wait, she had feathers right? Her wings looks like clouds so she just assumed..
Point is, something just didn't feel right.
The petite blue bird was on high alert, keeping it's head held high in searched for the source of such an ominous presence. Unfortunately, Swablu failed to find the stalker in question. That is, until he made himself visible in the light. While Colette was still off in lala land, Swablu had her eyes fixated on the suspicious looking figure. If it weren't so cute, she'd growl. Like that'd do anything.. Because a puffy cloud was absolutely fear-inducing.
Colette at the very least took note of Swablu's on-edge attitude. "Is there something wrong?" Her voice chirped up, a hint of concern and worry in both tone and expression. She uh.. Still didn't seem to notice. Oblivious little mareep she was. But seriously, the trainer was seriously concerned about how cautious her pokemon was at the moment. Did it had something to do with that man approaching her? Perhaps.. But it would be rude to assume. Nothing said ruder than accusing someone to be stalking you only to be mistaken.
Within her mind, she was contemplating whether or not she wanted to move just to confirm he were following her. It was night, moon lit sky with the stars hanging above sort of night. Not a single soul would be crazy enough to hang around in the dark all by their lonesome - she didn't count because of Swablu - so it was certainly a mystery as to why he would be out as well. The other part of her wanted to override her common sense and ask if he needed any help or something, because his eyes were locked either on her or the ground at his feet.
Before she could raise her voice, the brunette's ears picked up the chiming of another voice in the not-so-far distance. Both she and the man turned their heads, finding a figure under the lit light-post borderline jogging to her position. He spoke as though they were familiar.. But she didn't quite get it. Did she know him? Did she not? Hrm.. She was good at remembering faces, so she wasn't all that sure where she's seen him before. No doubt, he must have been a stranger. But if that were the case, why did he approach her like that? Maybe he mistook her for someone else?
Unlike her air-headed trainer, Swablu picked up the hint really quickly. In an attempt to enlighten the clearly confused trainer, the bird waved up it's other wing in the air while playfully imitating a 'hello' gesture. "Swablu, you know him?" Huh, she must really have had a bad memory then. If Swablu knew him, then odds were that she should have as well. Why couldn't she remember? And trainers' school? She didn't recall ever attending with him, never mind in Jubilife-- Hold on.
She was home schooled.
"I erm.. Think you have the wrong person.." She started, anxiously, holding her hands up defensively and slowly inching away a bit. She was bad at speaking to people and by extension, strangers. Colette didn't know how to react to this, because she really didn't know this guy. From her shoulder, Swablu was pretty much mentally giving itself a face-wing. This oblivious streak was going to be the death of her someday. Though luckily, he wasn't invading her space. That right there was a huge sign, but this girl was just too thick-skulled to let it process and click. She was tempted to run, move away, and just dismiss him there. But Swablu was determined to make her play along. So much, that it actually gripped more into her shoulder. Now, it didn't hurt, but it certainly got some sort of message across.
Reluctantly, and hesitantly, Colette took a deep breath to collect her thoughts before responding. "I'm doing alright.. How about you, Johnny..?" She trailed off near the end there, praying that her memory didn't fail her while it was having a brain fart. The grip from Swablu lightened, so that was a good sign. It means keep it up, keep playing along. As for the man.. Swablu made sure to keep a close eye on him and observe his movements. Now that someone was with her, he was most likely having second thoughts himself.
There were times in life when you just hit the wall… which is actually something that never happened to Athena. Any and all mistakes that happened in her life were calculated and wanted. There was so much to learn from her mistakes, after all, and some were very beneficial to her research.
So in all of her non-stop work, Athena decided to cool off her head for a while. Most geniuses used most of the moments when they were down to get some inspiration. It would never happen to Athena, so she wanted something as close as possible. Jubilife City seemed like less of an appropriate place to do it, but her decision had been made random through throwing darts. Probably the least academic way to make a decision but today was all about chances.
It was such a pleasant surprise that right there and then, Athena would meet the man of one of her most successful experiments to date. She could still feel the repercussions on her body, some of which, were quite interesting to note. The scientist couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow at the scene unfolding just before her.
A sweet girl, though much older than her, being taunted by two different kinds of creep. One was a coward, hiding behind shadows, with a Zubat. She could barely make out the man, but it was the usual stalker. The other played the part of the fool playing the part of a hero… who was also a fool. There was something about this scene that irritated her.
And most the things that irritated her often disappeared.
She crossed the street, not in strides, but paced and with purpose. Of course, Athena couldn’t let the target know she was his prey. An eye for an eye, or so the idiom went. Athena approached him and whistled his way to draw attention, though she caught more attention than intended. Her next move involved slowly undressing her black fur coat slowly, revealing a sleeveless black chinese dress with white fur, and used her arms to inflate her chest.
It worked like a Drowzee using Hypnosis.
The man cajoled her to come forward, causing Athena to smile. She placed back her fur coat, and walked towards the dark alley where he was stationed. Minutes later, muffled sounds and sparks of lightning lit up the alley way for a moment… and smoke rises from within.
Athena exited the alleyway quickly, satisfied with her work quickly making her way to Johnny, and his “guest”. The scientist didn’t bother to say hi to Johnny, but intervened in their conversation. “Hello to you.” She addressed the brunette without a glance, eyes on Johnny. “And you, stop using every situation to flirt with other people. I can't afford to get another experiment.” The glare was cold, but her words were emotionless, with an underlying emotion Athena wasn’t really sure how to describe. Whether Johnny responded or not, Athena would turn the glare at the much older girl.
“For someone as vulnerable and inviting to all sorts of crime, you should really be more responsible for your own safety.”

Cool. I'm just trying to be cool. Cool. I'm just trying to be cool. Cool. I'm just trying to be cool. Cool. I'm just trying to be cool.
Of course. He has the wrong person.
He sighs, and his expression flattens ever so slightly. Not only did she not get it, but if her apprehensive body language was any indication, Johnny had apparently only succeeded in frightening her. Still, he had already known there was a chance of that, and he supposed giving the appearance of a threat wasn’t as bad as actually being one. Speaking of which, that “actual” threat seems to have fled the coop.
Johnny takes a glance, and at the last second, catches a glimpse of the man entering a nearby alley. And… was that a flash of light? It’s a strange little distraction, but a brief and momentary one as the girl, hard-pressed by her Swablu, finally seems inclined to play along.
”Listen I’m--”
Johnny’s reply is cut short by a familiar face. Athena’s words are cold, and her eyes match in temperature, but Johnny is accustomed to the chill. Fond of it, even. So he smiles gently as he corrects her preconceived notions about his intent.
”Relax, Athena. Our friend here isn’t quite my type. I was just trying to help intercept a potential mugging. Or worse.” Johnny looks back into the alley, his expression that of scrutiny. ”Though I suppose he’s gone now…”
Athena doesn’t hesitate to start lecturing the girl, and while he agrees with her sentiment generally, he tries inviting a bit more tact into the situation.
”We all make mistakes, but she’s right. It can get dangerous out here if you’re not careful.” Johnny gets up from the fountain to take a standing position adjacent to the girl and Athena, though he looks to the former as he speaks. ”I’m Johnny--Sinnoh's next pokemon league champion--and this is my friend Athena. Assuming you live around here we can walk you safely back home, miss…?”

Was she perhaps making him uneasy? That.. Wasn't good. Not at all. Swablu had been desperately trying to give her trainer a hint - no matter the method. Granted, she wasn't even aware that she were in some sort of danger in the first place. Hence the oblivious reaction towards him when claiming that they went to trainer's school. In the corner of her eye, she did however notice that brief spark in the alleyways. But that was it, just a spark that lasted less than her mind could register as important information. Swablu on the other hand, had good ears. They picked up the sounds of whistling, and found the man entranced by another woman who was luring him on by. While many scenarios ran in the bird's head, she chose to shake them all out out of fear. Didn't do good against lightning, after all. "Swablu? Is there something wrong?--" She started, however the head of the puff ball nudged it's beak at her cheek, as though trying to lead her attention away from the incident.
Swablu was acting weird in her opinion.. Was she not feeling well? Yes, that was a likely conclusion. Maybe she should bring Swablu to a pokemon centre, just to check if they were affected by some sort of poison. That would be terrible! That would also explain why she would wave at the male who Colette was unfamiliar with..
”Listen I’m--” “Hello to you.”
Yet another voice chirped up, Swablu had clearly recognized her. While approx. a bit younger than their own trainer, this woman indeed was the one who enticed the stalker away from her trainer. While thankful, that cold tone was off putting. "Ah.. Hello." Colette on the other hand brought her hand up to a gentle wave and greeting, only to realize that her eyes weren't on her - but the male. Now, she just looked like an idiot.
The two of them exchanged a few words, however her ears picked up something that was news to her. While she wanted to speak up, poor girl didn't want to go interrupting their urm.. Reunion? Was that the right word? "Oh gosh.. I'm so sorry! You were trying to help and I just made it hard for you!" Again, she felt like an idiot! Their conversation was short lived, up to the point the younger woman began.. Scolding her. Oh dear. Really made a girl feel immature. She really didn't want to say anything, and thus may have come off as hesitant when struggling to be rid of that lump in her throat. “For someone as vulnerable and inviting to all sorts of crime, you should really be more responsible for your own safety.”
In her mind, she was intimidating. Swablu thought the same.
”We all make mistakes, but she’s right. It can get dangerous out here if you’re not careful.”
In the end, they were more or less concerned about her safety in some way or another. With that view, she was actually grateful to them. While oblivious to events that happened in the background, her anxious expression slowly eased itself into a calmed smile. Really, she was grateful. Swablu on the other hand was questioning how simple-minded her trainer could get. "I.. Don't really know what happened, but thank you for your concern." Colette retained her gleeful smile, with the earlier tensed vibe slowly easing back as Swablu was staring at the two curiously. She was an airhead, no matter how much she didn't want to admit it. Even then, she felt kind of bad that she interrupted the two from the schedule. What if they had somewhere they needed to be right now? Oh gods that'd be terrible if she were holding them back!
Her azure gaze fell back onto Johnny, the man who had attempted to assist her from that creeper. From what he just said, he sounded to be a pretty.. eccentric or energetic individual? Energy was good! Much as she would love to take up that offer, there were two problems. "Oh! I'm sorry! My name is Colette, and I erm.. Don't live around here. I planned on staying in the pokemon centre and then making way to Floraroma." She explained, but she probably said a bit too much than she was suppose to. Oops. Get this girl talking, and it'll be like running water from a tap. Unfortunately, she was still unaware of the ahem.. incident. "Ah.. I'm rambling again, aren't I?"
Her face was impassive as Johnny explained the situation. “Yes, because becoming the criminal makes it easier to accept things, isn’t it? Approaching a stranger and suddenly attempting to become her long lost friend will make the target less likely to scream for help.”
She hated the hero types because they were so flashy whenever they became active, doing what heroes did best, which was to make a fool of themselves. Even as Johnny attempted to clear the cold air between them, making the girl smile in return, Athena could only raise an eyebrow. It was easy to misconstrue her actions as benign, though she wondered how in the world did Johnny got thanked for something that could be seen as a crime in and out of itself.
“Please do think a little before you act. It’s people like you that give the female race a very weak standing in society.” Her voice was monotonous, but she did advance forward to take a closer look at her, and in doing so, blocking her view from Johnny. “I do not need your gratitude either. Dealing with fools is something I do routinely.” as she said so, she glanced at Johnny from the side. There was something interesting about this vagabond that did intrigue her, and it was not Colette herself that was the cause, but the blue Pokemon on her. The scientist shifted her gaze from the trainer, and to the Swablu, her eyes unemotional but intense.
After a period of time, she leaned back and said “Let’s use the term “friend” with a grain of salt. But yes, I’m Athena, aspiring scientists, and debunker of fools.” She extended a hand to Colette to formerly shake her hand. Whether she did accept or not, it was no matter. Her focus was elsewhere. “ Now, as for recompense for the service done to you, if you would please hand over that precious Swablu, I’ll have Johnny here escort you back to the Pokemon Center and you can go on your way to your ephemeral life." She smiled as businesslike as possible, though it only came as a vicious, evil smile.

Cool. I'm just trying to be cool. Cool. I'm just trying to be cool. Cool. I'm just trying to be cool. Cool. I'm just trying to be cool.
”Okay, Athena…” His words are thin and tired. Athena had launched into her signature kind of verbal tirade, and Johnny, a fan of the path of least resistance in this particular case, acquiesced to her criticism without much in the way of fanfare. In fact, it’s not until Athena makes it a point to put young, poor Colette on the receiving end of her words, that Johnny feels the need to puff out his chest.
“Woah, I’m sorry?” His words are preceded by an awkward laugh of disbelief; he’s not sorry. He’s surprised, and baffled. ”You aren’t taking her swablu.” He states to Athena, as a matter-of-fact. ”She isn’t taking your swablu.” he states to Colette immediately afterward. His head seems to be on the swivel as his focus switches between the two young women, but his next words are an attempt to clarify for all parties, and a rather indignant correction and dig at Athena’s suggestion.
”Here’s what’ll happen: Athena, if she’d like to experiment with the radical practice of being a good person, will help me escort you to the pokemon center, and since she’s a big girl, she can do the work of catching a swablu all by herself. Or, if she asks really nicely, I’ll be happy to catch one for her.”
He can’t help but grin at the self-centered scientist with that last line.
His next statement, however, is an idea that falls from his mouth without much of a second thought, and as a result, the implications of it are, perhaps, not considered quite as carefully as they should be.
”You could also both just stay at my place until the morning. It’s closer anyway.”
