[attr="class","jarcainereply1"] The galactic HQ was quiet these days - especially so around the library and archives. Caine scanned the shelves for books, eyes flitting over the titles before he withdrew one with a slender finger. The thin volume he'd chosen was labelled "Of the Legendaries - Past and Present Findings". Caine hugged the leather-bound book to his chest and left the shelves, placing the book gently on a table and pulling back his chair. He flipped it open after blowing on the dusty cover, scanning the text quickly until he came upon a section marked with "Palkia & Dialga". His focus sharpened. The text explained about the origins of the two pokemon but said nothing about them being sighted, nor of any poof of their power. He sighed as he could not find the information he was looking for.[break][break] Another book, more time wasted. He supposed that hardly anyone would have the information he was looking for, but he might as well try. He picked up the book and headed back towards the shelves.[break][break] Caine turned the corner abruptly and bumped into someone. The book nearly fell from his hands, but he regained his grip on them with an iron-like hold. "I'm sorry, I apologize," he mumbled before looking upwards.[break][break] OOC: tbh was not sure how to start but let's see how this goes.

It had been a while since he had walked through these sullen corridors of Galactic headquarters, Adrien's lengthy absence causing one too many rumours to sprout. "..." With gold irises fixed at the library doors at the end of the decorated corridor, the man would remain absolutely quiet and dismissive of the grunts that babbled around him, about him. Keeping up appearances was the last thing he had in mind recently - - the coup, the Arkwrights, a certain menace, and a certain ranger were all prioritized over menial tasks this organization had resorted to taking. The handle of the library door would click as the cobalt haired male entered, eyes scanning the empty chamber momentarily. It was to be expected, not many in Galactic had a penchant for lore or even reading for that matter. What else did you expect from highschool dropouts and the more brutish, if not maniaca, majority of Galactic - - all of who Adrien had chosen against mingling.
Walking past shelves, the admin would make a beeline straight for the history sections and search for a certain book. The numerous titles the shelves had to offer barely piqued his interest, the man having long read through them and deemed them useless. Tch. Not here. Clicking his tongue, he'd turn to head to the next bend when stray strands of white would bump into him. His good eye closed upon impact, Adrien taking a few steps back as to regain his balance. His lips formed a grimace as an austere eye glanced down at the albino. He would spare the younger male a few stern words, that is, if he hadn't noticed the book in his hands.
Cocking a curious brow at the title, lips turned to form a wry smile - - almost amused that someone who looked like an apparent recruit was flipping through such pages. He hadn't seen him around headquarters either and Adrien could only assume that boy was a recent addition to the Galactic cause. Interesting. "Useless." Lips finally parted to only speak one word in the most bored of tones he could conjure. "That book is pretty bland and useless." A little elaboration on his part lest risk the boy getting the wrong idea. "Actually, most of the books here are."
[attr="class","jarcainereply1"] Caine expected reprimand when the other, taller man had stepped back, regaining his footing in silence. The figure exuded an aura of authority which made Caine wary - he dearly hoped he had not angered someone of a higher rank. But his prediction of the future - to be scolded - did not come into fruition, and when several seconds passed by without an angry word, Caine looked up. His turquoise eyes rose to meet the man's golden one and his eyebrows rose with shock. Of course he knew the man he'd bumped into - although purely by sightings from afar and by rumors. [break][break] "Ah, greetings, sir," He articulated, nodding his head in acquiescence. As the man uttered the word, "Useless", Caine's spirit fell. Did he really create such a horrid impression at first glance? His brow furrowed when the Galactic admin amended his statement. It made more sense when he finally communicated that the majority of the library's books on legendaries were useless. And bland. Caine attempted a smile - he felt self-conscious speaking to such a powerful person.[break][break] "Indeed, sir, it's rather bland. And I cannot seem to find the information I seek," He admitted. He started when he realized that Adrien had been staring at the volume in his hands. "Were you looking for this volume?" he asked, offering the admin the book.[break][break] "Oh, I suppose I should introduce myself," Caine said. "I am Caine Ingram, a new recruit." The youngster glanced at the titles lined neatly on the shelves, jasper eyes flitting over the encyclopedias and papers and articles.[break][break] "I'm interested in legendary pokemon, specifically their powers and its downfalls. I've not found much..." He trailed off as he realized just how much time he'd spent searching through countless volumes for such knowledge. Although he had to admit that he did enjoy learning on the lore of pokemon and in history in general.[break][break] He wondered why the admin was here - of course he'd heard that Adrien enjoyed reading on lore and history, but he had not really expected him to be in the Galactic library, not when other libraries held older archives and papers. To Caine, Adrien was akin to the celebrity that you know of, but never met. And yet, he had bumped into him in a place he didn't expect.[break][break] Perhaps he could learn more from this person.

Eyes shifted from the book to the boy's face at his speech mannerism. It was an extremely formal diction which caused Adrien to unintentionally cock a brow. Alas there wasn't much the admin could question before the alabaster-haired recruit spoke again. At being offered the volume, he'd shake his head in polite refusal. "I just told you that the book was useless..." He'd offer some elaboration as his lips pulled taut into an amused smile. Caine Ingram. A new recruit, that had been established. "Adrien Arkwright." Answered briskly. The fact that he had chosen to address him with the honorific 'Sir' should have been evidene enough that the recruit knew his position although the admin's response was out of habit than anything else.
A keen eye studied the boy's visage as he'd go onto explain what he was looking for, a topic that piqued the admin's interest in this new recruit. There weren't many in the lower ranks that took such an interest to lore and legendaries. But while Adrien was interested, he wasn't impressed just yet. "And why?" The question parted with his lips the moment Caine had finished speaking. "Is there any particular reason you're trying to accumulate such information?" Asked as the man reclined a bit, his gold iris expressing a glint of curiosity now.
"Tell you what, impress me with your answer and I'll lend you a title that may be of use," Adrien would append the sentence moments later. While most aligned their goals with Galactic's, there were twice as many that used the resources Galactic could provide to fulfill their own personal agendas. Adrien was no exception to this and was aware that such people usually wouldn express themselves entirely unless given an incentive to. Besides, the volume he had in mind wouldn't be too difficult to produce seeing that his office had stacks of rare books all over the place.
[attr="class","jarcainereply1"] Caine felt a bit like an idiot as the Galactic admin eyed the book and quirked the corner of his lip, as if amused by Caine's offer. He felt like sinking through the floor as the man said that he'd just mentioned the book was useless. He'd suspected as much, but had thought to be polite anyways.[break][break] Caine nodded in acquiescence as the golden-eyed male introduced himself. He already knew who the man was, of course, so the man must have muttered the name out of habit.[break][break] Adrien's eyebrow cocked curiously as he regarded Caine. He asked why Caine was gathering this information. The young recruit was not sure how to respond, and he bit his lip slightly. Should he tell the truth? Or should he tell a lie?[break][break] Caine himself already knew of the coup that was being planned - rumors spread far, but then again, they were only rumors. He'd come at a time when the team was obviously split - not much help to him, but then again, he'd simply side with the side he was sure would win. Currently, he was supporting the admin who were planning the coup - one of which was standing right before him.[break][break] Caine was not sure how he could impress this admin - as a figure, he was formal, but not particularly impressive. As an intellectual, he could strategize and think things through, but he was not extremely cunning, nor sly. He heaved a sigh and placed the book back on the shelf, his hand lingering on theb book's spine. "I would like to change a part of this world," he said honestly. It was true - just not specific. He didn't quite trust the admin enough to divulge his whole story, but for some reason, he felt that this man could be trusted with some information. "And I want to know if it is possible. Even if evidence says otherwise," he admitted. "I'll keep looking until something proves that my selfish goal is possible..."[break][break] Caine was surprised. He hadn't expected to be so...honest. After all, his goals didn't align directly with Team Galactic's. He'd joined only to fulfill his own goal. He hoped there would be no repercussions...

"I would like to change a part of this world,"
Typical. Adrien's expression did not waver at his words, his good eye just scanning the boy quietly as if beckoning him to continue. To change the world was an ambition Galactic held as a whole. And while the navy-haired male did not react, he did take note of the interjection of 'part' in the boy's answer. It caused the man to wonder whether Caine had a more personal agenda in mind, one which was confirmed as the boy spoke on. Admittance that his goals were a self-serving one caused the man to furrow his brows in slight interest. It didn't surprise him, many in the organization had their own motives and plans -- many that needed to be curbed before they got out of hand.
As for Caine's answer as a whole, "Unimpressive," Lips parted to deliver the verdict in a monotonous tone. Arms crossed themselves in-front of his torso as he'd muse over one part of the alabaster-haired boy's answer. His smile would fade as he'd lean his shoulder onto the side of the shelf. Something about the boy's answer didn't seem to add up. His answer was terribly vague, yet he dropped hints that could potentially get him into trouble. Was he taking a risk or was he just plain stupid?
Either way, the'd hum over his answer momentarily as if giving it thought. "You say you want to change 'part' of the world and yet have joined Galactic without being certain of what you're looking for" He'd emphasize of the word 'part' as his amber eye settled on the male. "You say you aren't sure yourself of whether these apparently selfish goals are plausible. Why did you join Galactic if you didn't come to a concrete consensus of what you're looking for?" He'd shrug his shoulders and momentarily break eye contract. The boy's stance didn't make sense.
If it was access to research material, there were far better places to seek it out than Galactic. Unless Caine's reasons aligned even a little with the organizations own, there was no reason for him to join. What was this legendary power he wanted to learn about despite being unsure of himself? "Are you sure that's all there is? You don't seem that stupid,"
[attr="class","jarcainereply1"] "Unimpressive."[break][break] Caine's spirit plummeted. Well, so much for trying to impress him. Obviously, he'd done a poor job...but just where had he gone wrong?[break][break] Caine continued to listen to the golden-eyed admin's response in silence. Yes, he wanted to change a part of this world - the vagueness here was on purpose. Heck, he'd only just met the man. He wasn't going to divulge this secret. Yes, he was certain of what he was looking for - the possibility that Dialga could stop time for only one specific person, rather than just the whole world. Or perhaps the possibility that Palkia could warp space so as to create a separate dimension for one specific person. And if multiple timelines already existed, then to warp space ad time so that a timeline could merge with this one...for one specific person.[break][break] The main reason Caine had joined was because he saw his highest chance of grabbing Dialga and Palkia here. There was no one outside whom he thought would be sympathetic with him, nor with the idea of him using those pokemon for something other than world peace or other trivial ideas. Plus, his previous affiliation with the team, as an errand boy mostly, had been his source of income. Perhaps he could research outside of the team, but he'd still have Team Galactic after him if he decided to leave his previous affiliation.[break][break] If he joined Galactic, he could potentially have Dialga and Palkia all to himself. Slim as the chance was, it was still a better chance than outside of the team, where everyone would be whining for him to use that power for a greater good. And frankly, Caine simply didn't care about that.[break][break] Caine admitted to himself that one reason he had joined was because he had already seen just how powerful the team was - and Caine himself was greedy for that similar kind of power. He didn't need it, but his ambitions pushed him towards that goal with a burning desire. If he could be that powerful, he'd be able to do just about anything. Also, the one who had introduced him to Galactic had said that a leader of the team would capture the legendary pokemon...[break][break] What could Caine say? He knew very well that he was speaking to someone who currently held a position that he desired. He knew too that he'd need to work his way up patiently. But there was no denying that currently, this man had the authority that Caine wanted.[break][break] "Are you sure that's all there is? You don't seem that stupid," the Galactic admin pressed. Caine's turquoise gaze fixed on the man's golden one.[break][break] "I'm sorry if my answer did not satisfy, sir," Caine replied in monotone. He tried to seem dejected, which wasn't hard given the insult the admin had thrown his way. Caine didn't mind insults - he'd been insulted enough to shrug them off - but he could still dislike them. "I know what I'm looking for. I know what I'm aiming for. But to go into further detail would be sob story and I do not want to bore you with trivialities."[break][break] The blonde-haired boy shrugged and straightened his attire. "I must ask, why might you be here, sir? Are you looking for something?"

There was some semblance of dejection eminent in Caine's inflection Adrien had picked up on when the alabaster haired managed to meekly defend himself. Unfortunately it did little to change his and only served to further amuse him. His answer remained an 'unimpressive' one for he had vaguely paraphrased it and barely managed to leave any sort of lasting impression. The defense that followed by Ingram was the perfect excuse to cut off someone without diving too deep into the subject at hand. Normally Adrien would have praised someone who could do so with such ease, however since it was himself as the opposition, the man was instead irked. "Careful," The admin shrugged his shoulders as he'd stand up straight, eyes now darting over to a shelf in the distance. "Team Galactic isn't quite the team right now. Or ever was for that matter..." He'd casually speak, well-aware that they were the only two people in the library. In some context, he dropped a clue of the divide to come. In another, he spoke of more than just a major split. "Many of our members either lose their way or their lives in search of their personal agendas," Walking towards the shelf in the distance, Adrien would raise an arm as he'd trail the line of volumes arranged. "Friends in this rat race are essential," His inflection turned more severe as he'd both advise and threaten the male. It was no lie - - Adrien had only Aster to depend on within the organization - - a man who's aid and intervention had manged to save his life even.
"As for me... " The admin's voice trailed off as fingers stopped at the volume of interest. Pulling it out, he'd wipe the dust off its cover before displaying it to the younger male. "Yeah. This book. The creation of the red chain. The final trinket needed to control Dialga and Palkia," Answered truthfully as place the book in his palm and flip through its pages as to confirm this was the title he was after. A affirming hum escaped his lips as to acknowledge that moments later.
[attr="class","jarcainereply1"] Not quite a team right now? Caine's curiosity perked as the man gazed over the bookshelves. Was it a clue? Caine wasn't sure - it was vague, like his own answers had been. He settle for a grim smile as he watched the admin with clear turquoise eyes, listening for clues. He had heard something similar from the other admin - Aster - and he knew that whatever it was, it was being kept pretty tight-lipped. From his conclusions, he assumed that there would be a storm brewing on the horizon, and something that would change Team Galactic.[break][break] "Friends are essential," the admin said. Caine heard the dangerous sharpness to those words, and he knew just exactly what the man was implying. But Adrien didn't have to worry about Caine, for Caine had resolved to aid both Adrien and Aster as much as possible. Even as a lowly grunt.[break][break] Caine's eyes darted towards the admin's fingers, which rested atop a small, thin book. The cobalt-haired male withdrew the volume and held it up, long enough for Caine to read the title. His eyebrows rose at the mention of the red chain. Caine had heard precious little about the red chain, for the only places he'd ever found it in were vague mentions in old texts. The final trinket to control Dialga and Palkia...his fingers itched to read through it, but the golden-eyed male still held it in his hands as he flipped through the pages.[break][break] "Thank you," Caine said. He hesitated, casting an eye downward for a moment before looking back into those gold eyes.. "Sir, you do realize you have my loyalty. If, for some reason, you ever require the assistance of a lowly grunt, then I will help." He phrased it so it was a statement, that there was no questioning it. And Caine would be glad to follow him. However, Caine didn't require friends, and although friends in this strange place would most certainly be helpful, he knew that they would more often than not stab him in the back than help him.[break][break] Loyalty was a different matter. Loyalty was performing to the best of your ability, to act as a service. Loyalty was far more precious than friendship in a harsh environment, and Caine found that Team Galactic certainly did not require friendship.[break][break]

"Oh?" Adrien would fake astonishment in his inflection as his gaze settled on the youth. The corners of his lips threatened to form a wry smile when the boy spoke of loyalties, the child's demanour and stance having fluctuated rather quickly. Loyalties to him as an admin was essential and apparently Caine thought Adrien was refering to himself on that matter. Fortunately and unfortunately, he was not and moreso was advising the alabaster haired male to seek friends of similar agendas within these four walls lest he wish to risk being found out. But as for loyalties... "I have your loyalty, you say? " He'd repeat and questions with emphasis on the 'I'. Closing the book, the man would approach Caine as he closed the distance between them. "Careful with your words, Ingram," He'd caution the boy as an austere iris stared down at him. "Do I have your loyalty or does Team Galactic?" Asked with a more severe tone, notion that he wasn't jesting anymore. Caine's words had been carefully taken note of and now twas time to test how true to those words would he stay. "Because a 'lowly grunt' such as yourself can become more depending on what you choose," His voice was almost a whisper. Twas an offer and all Caine had to do was pick his poison.
[attr="class","jarcainereply1"] Caine knew he had said the wrong thing as soon as the admin raised an eyebrow and muttered the word "Oh". He'd misinterpreted something and had instead roped himself into a trap. Caine swore inwardly as he prepared himself for whatever the cobalt-haired galactic would ask of him.[break][break] The golden-eyed man snapped the book shut and approached the young grunt, gazing down at him. Caine kept his gaze strong, but it would've been hard to break eye contact with the admin anyways. "You have my loyalty. Sir," Caine said. For it was true - he didn't feel any thankfulness for being on the team, and he certainly wouldn't remain true to team Galactic's goals. The only reason he'd joined was because he saw a way to achieve his own goal through the team. He was using them, and not the other way around.[break][break] Caine kept his gaze on the man. He still wanted that book, solidly in the admin's grasp, but he had a feeling that the admin would test him using that very item. He hoped the admin would simply trust his words. [break][break] And of course Caine wanted to be more than just a lowly grunt. Heck, he wanted to rise in the ranks, bully the younger ones like the older members did him when he first joined. Power was relishing, and he wanted it.[break][break] He only hoped that he had made the right choice.
