certainly sunyshore was not a new place, but anastasia was a firm believer in the fact that the setting of a novel had little consequence to its plot, and life was what you made it to be. lies, of course. the real reason she didn't care for a change in scenery was likely the hassle of travelling in the first place. as exciting as a new place sounded, in reality it was more often a chore and a bore than anything truly exciting. which was why she only really left the city if there was a murder. but apparently saying that was harsh, so she'd let it be for now.
"thanks!" she said easily to the girl across the counter, moving from the coffeeshop into the cool air of sunyshore. despite its name, the city wasn't really extremely hot, but that was because it was half hand and half elevated walkways and the rest of it was just the beach. ana clearly didn't need to go far for something exciting. she walked with her little extra-sugar mocha in tow, walking up the steps two at a time before she was finally standing on one of sunyshore's defining features: its crazy solar-paneled walkways. regardless of whether you came there are noon or midnight, the walkways were constantly occupied with people walking, talking and just standing on the edge to look out at the water (or land) below.
today, anastasia would be joining the crowd of people hovering over a small patch of sea right next to the market beach. unlike the obvious tourists that were far too excited to see waves of H20 hit large masses of rocks for some reason, ana composed herself easily with her elbows resting on the railing behind her and her eyes out and about, scanning the crowd.
watson poked from behind her neck, revealing himself against her brown hair with a huge, albeit maniacal smile. "wynaut!" he declared, and ana nodded, smiling. "why not indeed."

It is bright in Sunyshore when she enters, a tourist city that seemed to embody what people portrayed Sinnoh to be. Warm, temperate, and always busy, Sabrina finds herself enjoying the sights, especially as she ascends to the very top of the walkways.
The ocean, as dazzling as Sabrina had imagined, glitters from below them. She however, refuses to go down there. Her image matters; she will never go as low as to admit that she is a tourist. Her ego simply won't allow it.
So she walks among the crowd, heels clicking against the tempered glass of the solar panels. It's then that she finds a girl in her way --normally she'd just walk around, but there's a sharp wynaut! beside her, and Sabrina stops to take a look, ignoring the stares of the people who had gotten caught up in her pedestrian traffic stop.
"What kind of pokemon is that?" She asks, rather abrasively, and points to small blue blob besides the girl.

someone stops to look at her, but honestly speaking anastasia only noticed when the crowd stops around her, people mildly cursing and walking around the two women as anastasia is quick to make the sort of painful, tactless eye contact you usually don't offer strangers. one hand in her pocket and the other loosely gripping her drink, with her elbows and one leg caught on the railing, it's almost like she's asking for a fight. being a part of the fairer sex is usually the only way she gets away with behavior like this.
ana's face twists into a mix of confusion, amusement and mild insult. on one hand, the declaration is quite valid so she can't reasonably argue against it, but on the other, she dislikes the girl's attitude. but then again, she's thoroughly impressed by it. either way, she doesn't really ow the stranger much and her response is immediate. "a psychic type." she says simply, looking at the girl with one eyebrow raised.
watson stares at the girl, unable to take his eyes off as he smiles his creepy smile, and ana is forced to look at him and chuckle, knowing full well why he girl could be brought to ask such a question but not really caring about giving her the answer the wanted. not like ana knew what the girl had expected to hear, though. she regarded the stranger blandly eyeing her up and scrutinizing every bit of her.
"wynaut!" watson declared, and ana had to agree again.

The girl's response is as flippant as Sabrina is, and she can't help but feel respect for that. A psychic type, she says, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. The pokemon in question smiles her in a rather off putting way and yells its name once again.
Sabrina gladly takes that as a challenge.
"Right."
She walks up to lean against the railing, eyes watching the cresting waves of the ocean. There's something calming about watching something so neverending, wafts of a salty breezing washing over them. Sunyshore is definitely popular for its beaches.
This girl seems young for such confidence. Her face hasn't yet filled in, and she simply gives off the air of someone like a college student -- youthful, reckless, and uncaring. Something Sabrina finds refreshing in contrast to her peers at Galactic.

anastasia blatantly stares at the girl again as she makes her way to the railing, watching bemusedly out of the corner of her eye how the stranger makes herself welcome in ana's little personal space. not that she really minds, but she hopes against hope that the inevitably conversation won't bore her to death. "oh please, don't call me a psychic." despite living in a world where psychic pokemon and ghost types walked around and despite the fact that both of them were specimens she owned, anastasia isn't the type to enjoy the idea of people crassly calling themselves psychics. "watson here probably isn't the model psychic type, either." which can be severely frustrating and quite humorous, she thinks to herself.
"sure then, sabrina. i'm ana." anastasia was often too long, but ana was vague and yet, for most people, enough. it could be a nickname or it could just be a name. to ana, it was both. not like she was really thinking of the sentimentality when she introduced herself this way.
"what brings you to sunyshore?" she asked, hazarding the guess that this girl wasn't from around here with another confident smirk on her face.

They are closer than normal when Sabrina decides to make herself comfortable against the railing, shoulders nearly touching and only inches away from a nudge. Such close proximity is usually only something friends would do, but Sabrina doesn't particularly mind. She can leave anytime she wants to.
Sabrina hums, raising an eyebrow at the response. "Why don't you just pick a better pokemon?" She says. Keeping a pokemon because of sentiment would only keep her back. It's obvious that some pokemon are stronger than others.
Ana is her name, although Sabrina can't quite tell if it's a nickname or a regular name. It's normal enough that she doesn't put much thought into it when she speaks.
"Money." She says, not quite a lie but not exactly the truth either. Money is only one of the many rewards of completing a mission; but Sabrina is well aware of the prominent ranger population here. It's where the HQ is based, after all.

ana's eyebrows raise at the challenge, and she frowns a little, before bouncing back with an equally haughty response. "because i'm not some angry twelve year old that gives staredowns to every pedestrian carrying a pokeball? the league doesn't interest me." no but seriously. ana had her eyes on a lot of things but she wasn't exactly the type with her eyes set on the league or the elite four or anything so presumptuous. she was fine with the path she'd chosen for herself.
ana laughs out loud at the girl's response, biting back the giggles that are soon to follow. "yo, you really don't have a sense of inhibition, do you? that's great." suddenly her body is turned to sabrina instead of with her back to the sea as her eyes become more accepting instead of critical. "money does make the world go round so i can't argue there."
ana shrugs as the question is reflected back to her. "eh, i live here." a pause. and work here, if i'm lucky." or they toss me an address and expect to arrive there within three days, siiigh.

Sabrina smiles, seeing that she's gotten a reaction from Ana. "Well, how else are you going to protect yourself? And other people?" She snorts. Baby pokemon are practically useless against wild pokemon. Sabrina may not have her eyes on the league, but she definitely wants to be strong.
Ana's mood suddenly shifts, and she laughs, turning more of her attention towards Sabrina. She's cute now that Sabrina's gotten a closer look at her. "Why should I care about what other people think about me?" Sabrina shrugs, leaning on the palm of her hand. She interjects, "People who say money doesn't matter are idiots."
Ana proves to her that she's a ranger herself, although it still remains vague. She lives here, obviously, and she works here. Freelancing? Sabrina raises an eyebrow and wonders how she makes much money with such a sparse job.

anastasia snorts. "do i look like the type that cares about that?" protecting other people, really? yeah, it was morally correct and ana would probably love to help others, but in the middle of a crisis she probably wouldn't be the one to dive into danger. it was just counter intuitive. not like she had ever been in any real danger before, but logically she assumed she wasn't going to be doing the rescuing any time soon. "as for protecting myself a loaded firearm usually does the trick." a bit of an exaggeration, but hey, she wasn't backing down from the challenge now.
"now that's a motto i can get behind," ana said with a chuckle, feeling that her response fit both of the other girl's sentiments. the girl inquires more about her job and ana smiles. she's not exactly a passionate workaholic, but being who she is is plenty exciting and it continually proves itself a decent conversation starter.
"sorry, i guess we need better introductions? i'm ana from the forensics department, a pokemon league ranger," she says boldly, knowing full well it quite contradicts with everything she's said a moment ago. "and you? what's behind the money that's brought you all the way here?"

Sabrina smiles, seeing that she's gotten a reaction from Ana.Sabrina can't help but laugh. Firearms have become an increasingly controversial topic in Sinnoh, but she can't help but agree with Ana. Sometimes a firearm is all you need against a wild pokemon or a criminal. And she idly wonders if Ana has one on her at this very moment. It'd be interesting, for sure.
"But you're a ranger, right? You're supposed to help people?" She says, until Ana keeps talking. Sabrina suddenly agrees -- introductions were in order. Badly. Apparently Ana is someone in the forensics department, and a ranger to boot.
How interesting.
"You're different from the likes of a normal ranger." Sabrina says, a statement moreso than a question. She briefly wonders whether it'd be plausible to try and recruit her -- because the likes of her, someone whose morals aren't exactly aligned with do-gooders, is perfect for Galactic. Yet something stops Sabrina from mentioning anything at the moment.
"I travel. Small tasks and errands for my boss. It's good money and I get to see Sinnoh." She says vaguely, shrugging. She's only ranked so far up the social ladder as a recent recruit.

ana can't help but feel opinionated on controversial issues, and shes glad sabrina can take the sarcasm lightly and laugh. god knows certain people might have been offended. pokemon licenses were just about everywhere, and firearm licenses were still hung in the limbo. in ana's opinion, it wasn't a good idea to arm everyone. but at the same time, they were already doing that, weren't they? whatever, the conversation moves on and ana is quick to follow, taking in everything she can and analyzing whatever information comes her way.
but then suddenly it turns to something of a recruitment, and the mood changes, if only barely. but it's something ana picks up on quite quickly. "you do little errands but get good pay? that sounds contradictory, but interesting nevertheless." despite her chilled college student aura, anastasia's mind is almost always furiously at work and now more than ever she starts picking up on anything the girl is leaving behind.
"someone like me," she repeats, slowly. "i doubt you're saying that because of my good humor, are you?" she asks, quirking an eyebrow suggestively with a wide smile. but as she thinks, the statement brings various possibilities. one, that this girl is in need of a forensics specialist, which could mean a private task force of sorts, maybe some research company's. two, that this girl is in need of a ranger, someone that has previous experience working for others, or just someone with that affiliation, which brought about a more darker, interesting set of options.
her mind began to busily work through them all while she simultaneously waited for a response to her eyebrow waggle.

Sabrina smiles, seeing that she's gotten a reaction from Ana.Sabrina shrugs, grinning at Ana's sudden curiosity. "Well I wouldn't say they're small. But they're easy. I get a job, and they give me money for it." She says, not to mention that she's often offered bonuses to leave her boss alone. Ah, how sweet harassment and blackmail tastes with a promotion.
She watches in interest as Ana starts dissecting her statements. It's as if she can see the gears in her mind working. "Research." She says. It about sums up what Ana would need to do.
Sabrina herself had been offered that path upon initiation into Galactic, but she finds that profession entirely too dull for her liking. Being a 'trainer', doing fieldwork and travelling is more of her forte. Relaxing and touring cities is just a bonus in her exploits, as long as she reports back that she's done the task.
"And well. Someone who doesn't think like that rangers." She says, knowing that it's somewhat vague. Sabrina pauses, to both come up with the right response and to give Ana a sense of anticipation.
"Particularly someone who doesn't have the best set of morals."

research, the girls says, and one can almost see ana's interest evaporate into the air, facial features slackening as she shifts her weight back against the railing. the offer, she decides, stands quite strong. it's money anyway, and research is mostly interesting. mostly being the key word. what if they keep her restrained to a topic she dsilikes, what freedom will she gain, what kind of jobs will she have to take? will it be stimulating, exciting but also give her freedom and the allowance to be lazy? the rangers are stiff of their code of action, but at the same time she's just a cadet and they're lenient with her behavior.
so the interest in anastasia specifically was because of her skewed views, huh? which likely meant that this girl was up to something shady. ana's expression turn quite expressionless as she wighed out the possibilities in the silence that followed. the girl's response had already been anticipated from the things she had said, so ana didn't flinch. "team galactic?" she asked, bluntly. what else was research oriented and amoral?
"those crazies that go around dressed like space knights?" she's frowning now, but she hasn't quite lost all interest. it's far more important to keep her options open, she guesses, considering that she doesn't want to stay with the rangers, but diving head first into business like this seems stupid as well. the idea of notifying HQ and getting a little pay raise out of this girl also crosses her mind, but pretty much every option does at this point.
watson at this point is scrambling over to anastasia, climbing on her head, which makes the brunette difficult to take seriously, but she maintains a thoughtful face nevertheless. the wynaut is still wearing his stupid smile, and pulls a little salute with a "wynaut" which only serves to deepen ana's frown.

Oh, Sabrina notes, seeing Ana's face suddenly fall at the revelation. Research, apparently, wasn't her forte. Her lips flatten, and she shifts her weight back to the railing that she leans against. Ana preferred forensics. It's probably more interesting for her.
Sabrina waits patiently as she thinks her statement through. It shouldn't be too hard. She's smart enough to figure it out -- and soon enough, Ana's eyes light up in realization. "Bingo." Sabrina says, lips curling into a cheshire smile.
"You wouldn't think they make much money, but they're big on research." She says, staring at her through lidded eyes. Sabrina doesn't doubt that this girl may very well rat her out, but she's interesting for sure. Much more than the regular ranger.

ana smiles as the girl reveals that she's won their little guessing game. but still, it brings more questions than answers. galactic. was this little recruitment planned? was she some kind of special attraction? no, it was more likely that this girl was acting on her own accord. anastasia hadn't been involved in success enough to be smoked out by recruiters. "what kind of research?" she asks, without thinking. will it be something interesting?
sabrina's next line of thought makes anastasia shrug in indifference. "why would i? you haven't done anything wrong. and to my knowledge you're not some scary mass murderer, either." she thinks for a bit, looking out at the water. "besides, the fact that you're on a job here means there's some subtle galactic presence in the city. and your obvious disdain for watson means you're not a half bad trainer." anastasia's eyes travel back up to the girl, and she smiles. "am i right?"
but she already knows she is. call it intuition for lack of a better word. so she outstretched her hand to the side, and the wynaut waddles from the top of her head to her palm, looking over at the sea. wingulls begin to caw loudly as a large wave crashes into the shore, and watson yells his name with glee.
