but peace within a raging storm and the serendipity that can be found within the storm
nothing beat the city. as much as people loved to talk about how the country was beautiful, there was a reason people migrated to areas like jubilife. it was because they were filled of life. having had her early cuppa and having felt the busy drum of people that reminded her closely of home back at hearthhome, isabelle was in a good mood for the weekend. it was a friday, which meant she could mostly relax, as her duties weren't that much during the weekend. after all, she was only a cadet.
she snickered thinking of all the paperwork jason likely had, sipping her americano with a small smirk and with her crystal blue eyes hovering over the rim to check to see if anything interesting was going on. in a few moments, a certain blue haired individual would walk by, and she'd wave to them for their attention. if she was successful in obtaining it, she'd title her head to the side and offer a wry smile.
"if it isn't the milotic trainer."
or wait. wasn't this just a hunch? after all, it had practically been midnight, though she remembered his face from the light of her pokedex pretty well. "that is, you are who i'm thinking of, right? last week..ish?" she couldn't really be bothered to remember. all she wanted right now was to not be entirely alone while drinking her coffee. that was one thing about having left home. ever since five years ago she'd never been consistently in the company of friends. it hadn't been a pleasant experience, if even she'd rather die than go back.
her hair was wild as usual, but her face was as clean as the finely bred rich girl you'd expect, and her clothes were crisp and devoid of faults-- her smile and her hair were the only two things crooked about her, and they should have been a good warning as any.
[attr="class","smdbody"]jubilife was fantastic, simple as that. he was still a country boy at heart, but being in the city was a nice change of things. it balanced out all the traveling that he did for galactic. it was also a make a good pit stop to rest and recover.
today was friday which meant it was only a day away from the weekends. not like it mattered to someone like liam; a galactic grunt. even though they had a lot of freedom to do what they want they still had to be a hundred percent loyal. that meant they had to respond whenever they were called in, even on weekends.
but so far there was no call yet. he was at a coffee shop waiting in line, his eyes focused on the menu that hung from the wall. he didn't feel like a coffee so he ordered iced tea instead. he then heard an oddly familiar voice.
"coffee girl," he replied. the circumstances were a bit different so he felt more comfortable. it showed with a friendly smile as he walked over to where she was.
"glad to see you in your environment," he continued. he let out a chuckle before taking a seat across from her, not even asking first. "does coffee girl have a name?" he asked.

but peace within a raging storm and the serendipity that can be found within the storm
she decided the male definitely was pretty to look at, but her memories of their conversation in the woods made him anything but interesting. either way, it was fun to meet with someone she'd only met in the middle of the night ages ago and on such weird circumstances in such a...well, normal place.
"it shouldn't be surprising to meet you here, but it is. what're the odds?" she asks, a little rhetorical question to break the ice-- or that. he sits in front of her easily, causing her to lift an eyebrow and open her mouth to object, but then she clamps down on her tongue. "don't i just blend in?" she asks, instead, the sarcasm strong but not exactly unfriendly. okay, maybe a little bit. she can't really help it. "quite right. it's isabelle. and you, fish-boy?"
she swallows some more coffee, watching him absent minded as her thoughts begin to wander. it's been a while since she's sat at a coffeeshop with guy. the last time was to avoid getting netted in with some forced romance to some rich boy with his head so far up his own behind that she was certain she was looking at a human pretzel. she idly wonders what kind of man they'll throw at her next.
[attr="class","smdbody"]if he had to pick one place where he'd most likely run into her he'd pick literally any coffee shop. "not really. i just wasn't looking," he said. he placed the cup of tea on the table in front of him.
he enjoyed the drastic change of environment. their first meeting had been under the moon at around midnight on the route. it was definitely a strange place and time to meet for a battle. granted she didn't partake in the battle itself, but she was still a guest.
"it's john," he replied with a smile. he used a name that was a memento of his old galactic mentor. well, not really a mentor, but liam did learn a few important lessons from the man. like how to take a beating, for one.
"so what's a pretty girl like you doing sitting alone in a coffee shop?" he asked, straight to the point. he leaned back against the chair, folding his arms as he looked across at the girl. she looked... interesting.

"John," she said, absent mindedly, eyeing his tea with little less than disdain. it was like coffee except instead of getting you mind running it got your bladder running, and she simply couldn't comprehend the taste. But whatever. To each their own. She wasn't going to hate on the stranger for liking tea, so instead she decided to not think of him much at all, until he progressed the conversation on his own terms.
She snickered at his question. "Well, if you could believe, drinking coffee," she replied sarcastically, not even having to think before the words came out of her mouth on their own, a little mischievous fire lighting itself in her eyes, looking across the table at the handsome male, challenging his rigid and closed off posture with her own elbows on the table and hands around her steaming cup.
Isabelle thought of the question for a bit, and told the male in a frank and genuine voice, purely because she did't really care for lying: "Nah, not really. Looking for someone, more like." She shrugged, pulled her elbows off the table and receded back into the chair.
[attr="class","smdbody"]the boy chuckled at her sarcastic remark. if there was one thing he could appreciate it was sarcasm, arceus knows he's had his share. "right," he commented. he supposes he deserved the sarcasm. you get what you give, right? possibly.
when she leaned forward to place her elbows on the table he reached for his cup and leaned back in his chair. he held the cup in one hand, using his leg as a support as he stared at the girl across.
"who are you looking for? he asked. he tried his best to study her and truth be told it wasn't hard. the one thing he concluded was that she was rich.
"taking a break," he smiled, "did you ever run into dino-boy again? still curious about how he got it."

but peace within a raging storm and the serendipity that can be found within the storm
"No one important," she said, because she believed it was true. Jason had wanted her out of his hair and so he'd tasked her with some menial task of tackling someone that had made off with some poor trainer's skitty, or something like. She had asked around and aparently the owner of this fine establishment knew a thing or two about the crook's place of residence, so she was mostly set. Now she was just savoring her break.
She dropped the topic fast and switched to the boy instead, hoping he wasn't as boring as she'd though the other night. "Oh? Break from what?" Well, he looked old enough. He was probably working. Everyone was, these days. "Mm, no, not yet. Have a feeling I will though, now that I've run into you," she joked. In reality Isabelle wasn't the type to hold her breath for coincidence to strike again. "Tch. Still hung up over that? Though, you know. It would be funny if he actually did steal it..." her voice trailed off, wondering exactly how common pokemon theft was today.
[attr="class","smdbody"]he remembered her comments from that night about him; that he was boring. that didn't set very well with him, he didn't want to be boring, he didn't want to be your average joe. but at the same time he didn't feel comfortable telling her the truth. but he's already lied and said that he's john, so telling parts of the truth wouldn't hurt.
"galactic duties. they really take quite a lot of your time," he replied with a grin on his face. he put the cup back onto the table again. "it's not all that bad though; recreating the universe and all," he added.
he said just enough to catch her interest, so he opted to change the topic. "i wouldn't be surprised if he did steal it. it's a rare pokemon to have," he said. if he had a dinosaur arceus knows the things he could do with it. take over the world, maybe. the thought brought a smile to his face.

but peace within a raging storm and the serendipity that can be found within the storm
isabelle sucked in a mouth full of air-- and unfortunately, hot coffee. she began coughing hysterically, slapping her chest and coughing some more, all her while her thoughts moving around her crazy. when she seemed to have finally recovered she looked at him with her face in the transitional period before a laugh. "what!" she demanded, but it wasn't more of demand, more of a playful shove with words. he was obviously joking. "you're kidding, right? recreating the universe?"
she knew all about galactic's silly plans that made about as much sense as their uniforms made fashion sense, and she hoped this sensible looking man wasn't really being serious. "oh my god, you're not joking." her face turned horrified before she laughed.
in that one second, isabelle had to make a split second decision: that decision was to believe this stranger, and take his stand seriously. "isabelle smith. a coordinator." god, the word itself tasted foul on her mouth just sitting next to her name, but if she wanted to figure out how serious this john was she'd need to figure out well.
still managing a smile, she shook her head like she didn't believe it, and tilted her head and rested it on the palm. "please, it's more likely you stole your milotic. blame the poor stranger, when you're the galactic hotshot, why don't you?" she joked.
isabelle had no idea how long she was going to be able to keep this up. but this was getting interesting, and the mischief and excitement in her eyes could be easily misinterpreted as flirtatiousness.
[attr="class","smdbody"]as far as she was concerned he was a man named john who was in galactic. that was good enough, but he just had to push it even further. he wanted her to be fully intrigued, to accept that he wasn't boring after all. he chuckled when she did, shaking his head as he spoke.
"i'm not joking; my name's not john either. i can't believe you actually believed that," he laughed. he was enjoying himself more than he would've admitted. the girl made an interesting company, to say the least.
"mira was a gift. the dino-boy is no poor stranger," he replied. he just felt uneasy when he thought about the stranger with the dino. he wasn't strong then but there was an aura behind him that just didn't sit well with liam.
"i am the galactic hotshot though," he winked. he took another sip of his tea and looked curiously at the girl. "what's it like being a coordinator?" he asked.
"i mean, you being rich and all should come as an advantage, no?" he asked.

she couldn't even believe the words that were tumbling out of her own mouth. a coordinator? she'd sooner be caught dead. and smith. honestly? that name was so fake she disgusted herself. john was a fake name too, huh. "well you had me fooled," she said, lightly pouting on the side. "so what's your real name?" she asked, a little too eager. but then she smiles again. "or is it some kind of secret, hm?"
"no stranger?" she asked, excited at the possibility for more information on the blondie of the other night. "so you're acquainted?" she laughed at his wink, feeling already charmed by the boy's looks alone, shaking her head mentally at the fact that she might have even fallen for this cutie if he hadn't disclosed the goods early on. well, that had been close.
"ahh, exactly what tv makes it out to be. lights, camera, action. and the worry that you still have spinach stuck in your teeth all the while." she shakes her head, mentally wincing. no one had to know about that episode. that was one secret that was better off taken to the grave. "yeah, i guess i do get access where some of people don't--" she paused, and then looked at him, and then shook her head, chuckling.
"was it that obvious that i'm rich?" she asked, teasingly, sipping at her coffee. "so, hotshot. how about instead of a coffee we go for a drink next time."
if she could snare this fishboy, she expected a promotion in no time. hook...line...and...
I ALWAYS WANTED TO ASK IF YOU UNDERSTOOD JUST A LITTLE OF MY FEELINGS ALTHOUGH I NEVER TOLD YOU.
[attr="class","sorry"]for a moment he contemplated telling her his real name. at this point he's probably told a fair few people what his real name was. it wasn't supposed to be a secret by any means, but it was fun to create a lie and a new identity. some might see it as immoral and wrong, but it was just his way to make galactic more fun.
he shook his head at her question about the dino-boy. "no, that was the first time we met," he replied. he had no idea if the boy was in galactic, if he was a ranger, or if he was just a regular trainer; he'll never know. "no poor stranger has a fossil on their team," he commented.
he wasn't really interested about hearing about her coordinating stories, he never found much interest in that field anyway. but he chuckled at her joke and later at her tease, surprised to find himself enjoying this conversation more than he thought he would.
he perked an eyebrow at her suggestion, wondering what implications it had. "are you asking me out on a date?" he teased back. "i didn't think rich girls could handle alcohol well," he laughed.
but in the end, he took the bait and nodded. "when?" he asked.
