major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
When he wakes, he comes out of unconsciousness slowly.
Like before, Jason notices the pounding in his head, although it's not as pronounced as the first time. He opens his eyes, but quickly closes them against the light. A mild throbbing in his temples, most likely the symptom of a lingering concussion.
He lifts an arm to drape them against the bright lights, and flinches when he realizes that it's the one that got bit.
All the memories of the torture come back at once.
Jason's eyes widen, and he lurches forward in a mild panic. His heart is beating quickly, and his eyes dart around the room for any sign of Liam. But there's no sign of danger. It's just...Adrien.
At the sight, Jason only slumps. He's safe for now, but he can't help but still feel unsettled. He's conflicted about Adrien, to say the least. Liam can't be trusted with what he says, but it makes so much sense -- if Adrien's in Galactic, than all those hospital visits and news stories suddenly makes sense. And to have such dangerous enemies, only makes it more justifiable.
But that also means that Jason couldn't be with someone that he's supposed to be an enemy with.
He looks down and rubs at the sheets, thinking of ways to approach such a grand topic. At this, Jason only sighs and makes an attempt to smile, if only because it may be the last time he'll ever see him by his side.

Leah had been the first to awaken, her injuries significantly lesser than Jason's, the man who's bedside he now sat besides. Tired eyes were fixed upon the unconcious blond, imaginary gears at work as he tried to muster up the courage to say what he wanted to. He loved Jason but after what happened hours ago it seems his happy little love couldn't stay happy. As much as Adrien hated to admit it, there was no denying the fact that he was a threat to those he loved. And for that he needed to disconnect. Dissolve. Dissappear.
"Mm?" Brows furrowed when the blond opened his eyes, although Jason startled reaction would have him lean forward worriedly. "Jason?," Concern aplenty in his tone, the Galactic's eye would widen in bewilderment as the man would slowly calmed himself. Tch. It didn't take long to realize that Liam had put him through hell and he was traumatized just as Leah was. Painful.
"...Adrien."
Immediately Adrien wanted to leave. That voice and that smile was out of place, almost alien in such a situation. A gulp. "You should rest," He'd turn his head away for once, suddenly not ready for whatever was to come. Suddenly the person before him seemed so distant.
His breathes are heavy and loud in the room, and he clutches at his chest, willing his heart to still. But it doesn't. Especially with Adrien beside him, guilt and concern laced in his voice when he says Jason's name. He shakes his head and ignores the flashes of fire fangs that run through his mind. He's completely fine. People have been through worse.
Jason looks at him, but it seems like Adrien's not so keen on doing the same. He swallows, looking away, and suddenly looks too uncomfortable in his own skin. Jason doesn't blame him, and he resists the urge to reach out and grab his hand.
He sighs loudly, throws himself back against the bed, runs a tired hand through his hair, and barks a self deprecating laugh. How could he be so weak? To the torture, to Adrien. To his own emotions. "It feels like I just woke up from a nightmare, to be honest."
At this, he acts too casual for his own good. Because in his months of dating Adrien, he's learned that Adrien shuts down when it comes to serious conversations like this. Jason reaches behind him and throws the pillow at Adrien's face, nurses be damned. He can apologize for the mess later.

"Hey... " Adrien would stand from the chair and move closer to the bed, carefully sitting at the bedside. "Hey, it's over. You're safe," Calm, soft and comforting, for once the Arkwright male had no words of jest to offer the ranger. A hand would gingerly reach out for the blond's shoulder to comfort him even though Adrien felt he suddenly had no right to do so. Jason's reaction was stressful to say the least, the ordeal he had gone through apparently etched im his mind. Different people reacted to different ways when they underwent the same suffering; Leah was an utter mess, Jason still relapsed upon those moments and as for himself? He was enraged then and he was the same now.
A Nightmare. His eye lowered to gaze at the sheets, a sigh escaping moments later. It was a nightmare and ordeal for them all and although it should have ended as soon as Leah and Jason were brought to the hospital, it didn't because now came the next part of it. One that he was unsure of now. The admin wanted to be selfish and happy but if this was the price to pay then it wasn't worth it. And while Adrien contemplated over his next few words, a pillow smacking against his face would pull him out of his daze.
"Huh?" He'd look down at Jason, confused momentarily as he'd hold the pillow. Talk he said. Talk what? He'd retract his hand and run it through his blue locks, nervous and unsure of what to say. Jason's sudden calm demeanor was perplexing. It eased him although didn't lighten his guilt any lesser. The silence wasn't very comforting either and so Adrien would splutter the one word he so wanted to from when Jason entered the hospital today.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. If you didn't know me, this wouldn't have happened," His voice was pained, eye still lowered. Apologizing was hard but meeting Jason's gaze today was harder. An inhale. "I'm sorry,"

Adrien's voice breaks through the hazy memories in his mind, and the warmth of his hand's touch grounds him. He's suddenly glad to have Adrien there, and within seconds he's back in the hospital room, with the gentle beep of the heart monitor and the smell of disinfectant.
At Jason's words Adrien looks infinitely more wrecked, sighing and suddenly too lost in his thoughts. At this, Jason realizes that he must've been as emotionally hurt as he is, if not more. A pillow's throw serves as enough of a distraction from his thoughts.
Adrien looks at him, running a hair through his locks, confused. Can't he see? Jason's doing this for him. The silence is far from comfortable, but he's willing to wait for Adrien's response.
And he does. In the worst way possible.
Jason reaches forward for his hand, and if Adrien lets him, attempts to squeeze it tight.
"No, please don't apologize, Adrien. You didn't mean for it to happen," Jason murmurs, bringing Adrien's knuckles up to his own lips. Such a gentle action was warranted in this situation, right? He smiles, although it doesn't quite reach his eyes.
"But why would someone try to hurt you like this?"

Regret immediately seizes the man, Jason's response doing little to better the situation. The blond reaches out for his hand, his eye following its path to his lips. Jason's an asshole and knows how to ruin a mood, but with such gestures, the pretty-boy sure knew how to make someone's day too. Alas, today it wouldn't be enough to make him forget all that had happened and the Arkwright male had to resist caressing his lover's little face.
But I knew it could happen. The words almost pour through Adrien's lips, the blue-haired male barely able to withhold that urge. It wasn't a lie and ever since his grandfather's demise the male had turned increasingly paranoid that Liam would target another. He feared that Leah could have been his next victim but then Jason of all people? That was an err on his bit, an err which he had to pay dire consequences for.
Jason's next questions however cause the admin to freeze, Adrien quickly recovering before his features pale too much. Instead, he'd look up and smile at the male, a finger pointed at his own face. "Do I look like the kinda guy who makes friends?" He'd chuckle and make light of the situation, Jason's sudden curiosity was disturbing if anything. "I'm just, sorry you had to get caught up in all of this. You don't deserve this," A sigh as he'd close his eyes. This was a conversation he just didn't want to have. And while Adrien was in no position to make small talk at the moment, he was still an expert in attempting to escape a situation.
"How're you feeling now? Do you want anything to eat? Shall I get you water?" The man would start off as he slipped his hand out of Jason's grip and turned to the table close to them. With a fake smile spread across his lips, he'd add in casually,
"So! Tell me, what would you like? I can order something,"
Jason watches carefully when he asks his question, something that he's been wondering for the whole length of their relationship. Any attempts before then had been parroted away by Adrien, and he gets increasingly defensive when probed. Today, however, he's determined to get the truth.
At the question, Adrien suddenly freezes. The color drains out of his face before he looks up and attempts a smile, something that Jason can see through. He narrows his eyes at what Adrien says, but reluctantly plays along for now. "Better. My life isn't in danger or anything, but I obviously can't go back to work until my wounds heal..." He says. He flops back against the pillowless bed, ignoring the way his temples flare in pain at the impact, and smiles. He better get paid time off for this.
"I'm not hungry..." Jason murmurs, flexing his hand at such a sudden loss of warmth. His smile suddenly disappears, and for once, he's wearing a sober expression. He'd need to be straightforward and stubborn to get what he wants -- no, needs to hear.
"Adrien," He starts. He attempts to reach forward to loosely hold his hand again. His smile fades away, replaced by a sober expression. Because for all that Jason's inclined to joke and brush this off, he can't.

Jason's answer wasn't the kind Adrien was looking for, his chest constricting as he noded along quietly. "Of course you can't..." He'd murmur as he'd gently put down the pillow near Jason head. The Galactic admin was responsible for this, even if indirectly, he did nearly jeopardize an innocent ranger's life and career. Two, no, three rangers at that. Commendable in the eyes of the Galactic leader. Despicable to himself.
The ranger would decline food and Adrien's shoulders slumped as the man would reach for his hand again. A sigh before he'd smile as grip his lover's hand tightly. Comfort was one thing Jason deserved and the one thing Adrien was depriving him of. The man's stubbornness however was intriguing and the admin could only link it to what happened yesterday. But he wouldn't probe at it. The blond had suffered enough. He needed comfort.
"You're awfully adamant today," He'd comment as he'd sit comfortably and faced the blond. The lack of a smile was concerning. What made the ranger so stubborn all of a sudden? "I guess you deserve an explanation," Shrugging his shoulders, Adrien would clear his throat. Explanation he said although that explanation would omit most of the details and leave the rest vague. Hopefully it should suffice.
"I've gotten myself mixed up with some bad deals. The wrong kind of people. I tested my luck... " Eyes sobered down. He wasn't lying - Galactic was the bad deal. Liam and Lena the wrong kind of people. And that luck. "... And I payed the price," Speaking those words stung and his grip on Jason's hand tightened as if subtly looking for some solace of his own. A frown enveloped his lips as eyes flickered back to Jason.
Jason takes the pillow with his hand, adjusting it so that his head laid on top (although a bit haphazardly) and closes his eyes. Adrien obviously takes the blame for it. There's guilt in his eyes, and Jason can't help but feel sympathy for him. He squeezes the hand in his grip. Adrien had reluctantly acquiesced. But his explanation doesn't make him feel any better, and Jason frowns in response. It's so vague that it's obvious that Adrien's hiding something.
"That's not an explanation." Jason says, anger leaking into his voice. He doesn't catch Adrien's subtle plea for comfort, too wrapped up in this subject to care. Adrien's grip tightens, but Jason's remains loose. He knows he's asking for a fight, but he can't help it. He needs to know.
He looks away and recalls what Liam had told him. It's murky in his mind, the pain had dulled many of his senses, but he'd said many things. About Adrien. And as much as Jason doesn't want to believe it, what he said made sense.
"Adrien. Answer me truthfully. Are you in Galactic?"

"That's not an explanation."
"Hah," An almost instantaneous (and exasperated) sigh escaped Adrien's lips as he'd look away and roll his eyes, well aware of where this was heading. Anger already bled into the ranger's words and it wouldn't be along before the man completely lost his cool. "I don't understand... What do you want then?" He'd shrug his shoulder and idly motion a hand in the air, genuinely stumped at what Jason was going on about. Wasn't this enough? Or was this bait for something mo-.
Galactic. Eyes instinctively turned back to meet Jason's face, his adamance suddenly made quite a bit of sense. Liam had told him about his affiliation with Galactic and apparently Jason believed the madman. "What?," Brows furrowed as the question lingered in the air for a while. Despite edging dangerously close to the truth however, Adrien would be quick to lie - well prepared for a such a situation. After all, it would be foolish not to seeing how he was dating a ranger.
"I'm not sure what you mean, Jason," There was adequate concern in his intonation as he bit down his digust. He hated lying, especially to Jason, alas had no choice. "Has he messed with your head, too?" He'd ask and hoped Jason doubted himself to drop the topic.
Adrien's exasperated sigh only seeks to make Jason even angrier. He's always been so contemptuous; especially during their fights. "You know what I mean." Jason says, slipping his hand out of Adrien's to fold them across his chest.
"Are you in Galactic?" Jason repeats, letting the question sink in. It's a big accusation to make, but why else would Adrien be so defensive? Why couldn't just tell him what's going on? He can't live in uncertainty anymore. He's a ranger, and he has to do what's right...even if he would like to ignore everything that's happened lately.
"You know exactly what I mean. I don't want to believe it but you haven't told me anything." Jason snaps, because at this point he's beginning to lose his patience. Because oh, has Adrien always been a good liar. Jason can never tell whether it's the truth or not, but he's unwilling to let this go. Not until he explains himself, at least. Galactic or not, he hasn't denied his potential affiliation with them.

The warmth between their hands dissipated once again, earning a scrowl that reciprocated Jason's own. Usually Adrien would have pullrd out his phone or attempt to diverge the course of the conversation but the current setting and situation made those options difficult. He was put on the spot, no games, no escapes. And Adrien had to resist the urge to snap back with a - 'Can I pretend I don't?'.
The Arkwright's own temper and calm was breaking, Jason of no help has he further probed into the matter. Part of him wanted to tell him. Tell him the truth and finish this off quickly, and less painfully. "I am..." Lips parted and those two words reluctantly escaped as eyes lowered to face the sheets. The truth it was but even then he immediately felt regret. He wanted to cling on. He loved Jason to the point that it scared himself. He just couldn't destroy it all here. And so...
"...Not," A third word would append itself just moments later. "I've told you... I just messed with the wrong people. Some Galactic, some not," Adrien's voice had unintentionally lost vigour and his grin had completely faded. The sinking pit in his gut couldn't be ignroed and at this point he felt sick. It felt like he had already lost.
Jason waits patiently, with baited breath. And it seems as if it's working. I am. Adrien says. For a moment, it seems as if the world had fallen apart. But he doesn't even have the time to process it before he suddenly says not. At this, Jason suddenly deflates, conflicted. He wants so badly to believe Adrien, but it's hard. Especially since he's being so vague and dodgy.
It's never pretty when they fight. Jason's stubborn to everyone but Adrien, and he's usually the first to give in despite his hot headed personality. He doesn't know what to believe, but he's not going to put in anymore effort into the argument. They're just going around in circles now.
"...No. I'm not satisfied." Jason admits. He leans back against the bed, pointedly not looking at Adrien, and sighs. Exhaustion suddenly catches up to him. He's too tired to be angry.
"But I'll let it go. Just. Give me a moment to calm down."
Post by adrien arkwright on Aug 31, 2016 7:31:27 GMT
Not satisfied. Apart from being snide the words stung despite Adrien being the liar here. Eyes flicker upward, irritation aplenty in Adrien's usually calm visage. He dodged the bullet and he was supposed to be glad about it but instead the Galactic admin was left feeling doubted, worried and at a loss. And that got on his nerves. "What is with you?" Words, uncensored for once, poured out when Jason turned away. There were times when Adrien gave in as well, and despite them being infrequent, he did flare up at the ranger from time to time. This was one of them.
"What do you want? A confession?!" The man's voice was raised adequately and was a stark contrast to the sober demeanour expressed just moments earlier. Jason's adamance to get an answer out of him just made him more suspicious. The blond wasn't looking for an answer, he was looking for a confession. Whatever Liam had told him seemed to have burrowed deep into his boyfriend's head. He'd stand up and rest his hands in his trouster pockets, eyes still locked on Jason. If the ranger wanted to throw a tantrum then so be it. He'd entertain it... Harshly.
"What did he tell you?" It was his turn to interrogate, brow furrowed as he was genuinely curious and concenred. "What did that fucker tell you, Jason?" Adrien would repeat more sternly. What was it that had Jason so hung up on this subject?
Jason looks away, because no matter how well intentioned his actions seemed to be, it had been undoubtedly passive aggressive. At least, it was knowing Adrien. Because it would've made him guilty. Adrien snaps at him, for once losing his patience.
But it only serves to add fire to the fight, and Jason's eyes light up in anger at such heated remarks. He throws up his arms in exasperation. "I just want answers! I don't know Adrien! I just don't want to idly wonder when you're going to land in another shitty hospital!"
He lingers in the silence, hands coming down to grip at the blanket. "He told me a lot of things, and I don't want to believe him, but you haven't given me a reason to think differently." Only seconds pass before his hold tightens, knuckles turning so white that it's only shades away from the very sheets that he's holding. He stares at it, how it wrinkles at his touch, and wonders where he'd gone wrong.
