Parker was starting to feel good about all this. He was at the next gym in Veilstone, convenient considering he’d just got another mission from the base. He’d heard about this gym leader and her aggressive nature, how she took no prisoners. And he was curious, sue him. So he wandered in with Cracker in tow, glancing around the rather spacious location. He crossed his arms and frowned seeing the critical look the gym leader gave him. He sighed and puffed his cheeks out, motioning for Cracker to go ahead. He had a bit of an ace in the hole here, having done his research. Pickle would come out to play as soon as Cracker was done, and he suddenly felt a little lucky he chose Cracker as Cassidy said nothing, but pulled out a Venasaur. He released a breath and thanked Arceus that he was so lucky.
He motioned to Cracker, who immediately went to work. He dodged forward with a vicious Fire Fang, which was super effective against the grass type. The venasaur didn’t seem to be very happy with that and huffed, stomping her feet.
(ROLLING 1-100 FOR BURN AND FLINCH. 71 AND 75, NO BURN OR FLINCH)
The venasaur decided to take a safe approach by using protect as their next move, rendering the next move entirely useless. Cracker attacked anyway, much more hesitantly than before, and ran right into the protective barrier covering the opposing team. Parker sighed knowing this would be a long battle, but the venasaur seemed to have a few tricks up her sleeve. She used venoshock, drenching Cracker in poison and choking him. He managed to shake the worst of it from his fur, still feeling the slight buzz but otherwise fine. He raced forward with a decently bursting Flame Burst, singing the venasaur’s flower and fainting her in one swift move. Cracker shook his coat again, howling slightly at the feeling of the poison in his fur.
Parker didn’t want to get his hopes up too much as he saw the nidoqueen on the field. Both pokemon seemed to size each other up, neither wanting to make the first move. Finally Cracker darted forward in a rather impressive Takedown, shaking off the recoil.
(ROLLING 1-100 FOR POISON. ROLLED 58, NO POISON.)
Circling each other on the battlefield the Nidoqueen leaped forward with a Roar, forcing Cracker back into his pokeball. Parker cursed as his pokeballs shook in tandem, wondering who would pop out. He was relieved to see Pickle pop out, the little Baltoy shaking as it faced down the large nidoqueen. Cassidy’s breath hitched from across the field and Parker’s lips twitched into a smile. Pickle seemed confused for a moment as everyone held their breaths, before seeming to realize what was going on. Pickle suddenly perked up and used Earth Power, shattering the defenses of the nidoqueen in question. The nidoqueen tried to shake off the move and retaliated with Ice Beam.
(ROLLING 1-100 FOR FREEZE. ROLLED 99, NO FREEZE.)
Parker cheered as Pickle used another Earth Power, fainting the nidoqueen. Luckily this seemed to be turning in his favor, even if the majority of the moves that Pickle knew were psychic. Cassidy ground her teeth and sent out her final pokemon, a Gengar. Immediately the gengar took stock of the situation, and used Hypnosis.
(ROLLING 1-100 FOR SLEEP. ROLLED 3, TARGET FELL ASLEEP.)
Unfortunately the hit landed and Pickle was left asleep, making Parker’s face turn red. He knew no matter how much shouting he’d do it wouldn’t matter, Pickle was in deep. The gengar cackled with it’s big dumb face as Pickle remained asleep for the duration of the turn.
(ROLLING 1-3 FOR SLEEP. ROLLED 1. PICKLE IS ASLEEP!)
With Pickle incapacitated the gengar used hex, which caused a severe amount of damage to Pickle. Luckily for the little baltoy, it was just what it needed to wake up.
(ROLLING 1-3 FOR SLEEP. ROLLED 3. PICKLE WOKE UP!)
Pickle immediately attacked with an Extrasensory, dealing significant damage to the gengar. Luckily Pickle recognized the others ability as it’s own and reacted accordingly. Though still sluggish, Pickle managed one final move, another Extrasensory in order to faint the gengar, and Parker was once again left victor.
PARKER WON!
