Parker was honestly kind of done with the whole gym thing. Then again he had some pretty big plans, ones that required badges and a boy he wanted to keep safe, so he had to get stronger. He took a deep breath and sauntered, a bit cockily, into the gym. It was a grass type gym and a city that he actually liked a bit more than Jubilife, and he was pretty sure this was a shoe in for him.
"hi! i'm gardenia! i'm sinnoh's second gym leader, a grass-type master! you have a winning aura about you. so, anyway, this will be fun. let's have our battle."
Parker took a deep breath and simply nodded, smiling to himself and pulling out his pokeballs. He'd limited himself to two pokemon and let the first ball go, Cream Cheese more than happy to do battle. Gardenia seemed to pale and already sighed in defeat, but kept up her smile nonetheless.
First pokemon up was Cherubi, something Parker balked at and suddenly wanted for himself. God damnit. He sighed and shook his head, motioning to Cream Cheese. He was a little bit fucked if he was honest, for being a fire type Cream Cheese only knew one fire move.
"Alright Cream Cheese, let's go."
"...Did you just say 'Cream Cheese'?"
Parker scowled for a moment, staring down Gardenia until she seemed to catch herself and bowed her head while trying not to laugh. Cream Cheese snorted and pawed at the ground, launching forward at the Cherubi and using Flare Blitz. The Cherubi shrieked for a moment before falling back and writhing on the ground. She had quite the nasty burn now, singing the edges of her leaves.
(ROLL 1-100 FOR BURN. ROLLED A 5, TARGET IS BURNED)
Gardenia looked pained, but directed her pokemon anyway after she got her bearings. The Cherubi used leech seed in an attempt to stay alive, which alarmed Cream Cheese to some degree. Still, she snorted and with a nod from Parker, used her attack again and fainted the grass type. Gardenia recalled her pokemon with a deep breath and called out her second, Turtwig.
Cream cheese was feeling pretty good at this point, and snorted to make her point. She had about one more attack left in her before the recoil got to her, but she was willing to make that sacrifice for the sake of the badge. She and Parker shared a nervous moment where they agreed on the plan, and Cream Cheese rushed forward to use a poison jab.
(ROLLING 1-100 FOR POISON. ROLLED 62, TARGET NOT POISONED.)
The Turtwig, recognizing the fire type, was startled and jumped back, taking the hit but luckily not getting poisoned. The Turtwig responded with a razor leaf in a desperate attempt at an attack, and Cream Cheese took the hit. She looked at Parker, it was time. Rushing forward she used another Flare Blitz, and promptly fainted after attacking.
(ROLLING 1-100 FOR BURN. ROLLED 49, TARGET NOT BURNED.)
Parker recalled his poor fainted pokemon and pressed his second pokeball to his cheek for good luck.
"Go Cracker!"
Gardenia outright laughed this time at the name, and Parker flushed with embarrassment. So he wasn't good at naming things, so what!? Cracker barked at her though, shutting her up immediately. His intimidate ability caused both trainer and pokemon to shudder with slight fear, and he paced around for a moment, sizing the Turtwig up. Cream Cheese had done a number on him and Cracker took an experimental swipe, and was surprised at what happened.
Turtwig's health dropped just low enough for Overgrow to activate, and she lit up with color as her grass type moves were powered up. Cracker growled and attacked with Fire Fang, nearly setting the whole gym aflame.
(ROLLING 1-100 FOR BURN AND FLINCH. ROLLED 99 AND 78. NO BURN OR FLINCH.)
Gardenia shouted but it was drowned out by Cracker's victorious howl, even as Turtwig used withdraw as a last resort. Cracker dodged forward and snapped his jaws in another Fire Fang, fainting the Turtwig. Gardenia clenched her jaw and returned the fallen pokemon, taking in the now smug trainer and his even smugger pokemon.
Her last resort was Roserade, who took one look at the scene and the scorched gym floor, and wanted back in her pokeball. Gardenia gave her an apologetic and slightly pained look, and Roserade sighed. Cracker on the other hand, paced back and forth, and even decided to let her go first in a show of good faith. Roserade started off with a Poison Sting, hoping to slow down her target. Unfortunately, while it did sting, it didn't land properly.
(ROLLING 1-100 FOR POISON, ROLLED 89, TARGET NOT POISONED.)
Cracker shook off the attack and used Flame Burst, setting the bleachers ablaze in the process. Gardenia yelled out, and Parker swore under his breath, but the flames were quickly sorted out and the battle continued. Roserade used Stun Spore in her frustration, and Cracker cringed as the spores left him in a sluggish state.
(ROLLING FOR PARALYZE. ROLLED 58, TARGET ABLE TO ATTACK)
Luckily Cracker was able to attack, and used another Fire Fang on Roserade, who had enough. Using Magical Leaf, she attacked Cracker with a fury that left Parker wincing in sympathy. Cracker was in pretty bad shape but they were so close to victory!
(ROLLING 1-100 FOR PARALYZE. ROLLED 35, TARGET ABLE TO ATTACK)
With one final huzzah, Cracker attack with another Flame Burst, focusing the entire attack on Roserade and howling in victory when she fainted. Parker released a breath he didn't realize he was holding, and dropped to his knees, hugging Cracker.
PARKER WON!!!
