major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
This wasn’t right, Dakota could tell that much from a distance. A frown painted the strawberry blonde’s lips as his light blue eyes scanned some of the wreckage on the outskirts of Floaroma Town, a quiet sigh escaping him as he reached out to run his fingers down the scorched remains of a pillar next to him. The journalist had heard of the horrors that occurred here, but it was far worse in person. For a moment he gripped his camera tight, almost feeling like it would be wrong to document the remains. But he had been assigned to write a piece on the aftermath of Floaroma’s fall, so he had little choice. Hesitantly he brought the camera up, his gut twisting uncomfortably as he snapped a shot of what looked like had once been a house just down the street from where he stood.
It was so quiet here that it gave the journalist the chills, the snap of his camera sounding piercing. It seemed as if Pokemon hadn’t really even moved back into the wreckage much, from what he could tell. For a moment he dwelled on the reports he had read previously, on the death tolls and damage done to people and Pokemon alike. Despite some time having passed after the incident with Team Galactic, he could still feel this heavy weight just by being there. Crouching down, he again paused for a moment before taking another picture, this one of the remnants of a child’s room, the toys all but destroyed by the fires. With a deep breath he tried to keep himself calm, quickly deciding it was time for a break.
Dakota didn’t hesitate to retreat to the outskirts of the town, to where it met the forest and he could hear the faint sounds of the leaves rustling and Pokemon in the background. Right then in was almost surreal as he took a seat and stared towards Floaroma Town, up on a hill so he had a good vantage point of most of the debris. After a moment he took another picture, wanting to capture an overview as well. Already he had plenty ideas for what he’d write for the article, but he couldn’t help but dread putting what he saw into words. Yet it was his job, and this further fueled the desire he felt to expose everything he could about Team Galactic to the masses.

Jensen didn't know what he was doing outside. Sure he escaped his home in order to get away from constantly being in the house, but he'd forgotten just how much he actually didn't like nature. Not that he could remember much about himself anyway, but he figured that would be at the top of the list of things they should have reminded him of.
Whatever. He was determined to prove he could do this on his own.
Now if only he weren't so out of breath and in pain. He was breathing heavy, having exerted himself too much climbing a small hill. He bent over double with his hands on his knees and sucked in lungfuls of air, hand over his chest and willing his heart to just calm the fuck down already.
Callisto was overhead, and drifted toward a stranger with rather fetching hair, landing atop them and settling down. She chirped happily, twirling her leaves, and smiled wide.
Having been deep in thought, Dakota damn near jumped out of his skin when he felt a sudden weight on him. While he did jolt and gasp, he quickly resisted the urge to shove the thing touching him away when he saw that it was a cute, little hoppip. “Hey, there,” the journalist chuckled softly, mostly at himself for having been frightened from the cheery pokemon. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted someone else not too far away on the hill as well.
It took the journalist a moment to realize that the guy was doubled over and having trouble breathing, but once he did he immediately got up and made his way over. “Ya alright?” Dakota called out as he made his way down the hill, a bit worried that something more could be wrong with what he assumed to be a man. He didn’t even think that the hoppip could belong to the other.
This was a welcome distraction from his work, really, his concerns about Floaroma Town at the back of his mind for the time being. Upon closer inspection, he relaxed a little when the other didn’t seem to have any serious injuries.

Callisto chirped and clung tight to Dakota's hair, more than enjoying the ride as he got up. The cottonweed pokemon continued to chirp as though having a conversation with Dakota, that was entirely one sided, until she saw Jensen doubled over. The hoppip floated off of the stranger's head and landed on Jensen's back, who hummed and rolled his eyes.
"Callisto you can't just run off on me."
Jensen, who had hardly heard the stranger, glanced up at Dakota and grinned shyly.
"I'm fine just, a bit winded is all."
Jensen straightened out and glanced Dakota up and down subtly. Granted he wasn't one who was best at subtly. Callisto settled on Jensen's head while Bootes trailed behind Jensen, the little rattata chittering to Callisto.
"Did Callisto bother you? She tends to fly off without me..."
A soft smile tugged at the corners of Dakota’s lips as he saw how the hoppip landed on the man’s back, easily drawn to the adorable actions of equally adorable pokemon. His own two were in their pokeballs in his backpack, as he didn’t want them seeing this place. “Callisto, huh? Fitting,” he paused for a moment, trying to keep from smirking after he noticed the way the other looked him over.
“She didn’t bother me none, no. She’s cute,” the strawberry blonde complimented without hesitation, not wanting the other to feel guilty for Callisto wandering off. “I’m Dakota, by the way,” he introduced himself as he extended his hand to shake the other’s, before he glanced back behind him for a brief moment, towards the wreckage of the town.
“Kinda curious, though. What’re ya doin’ all the way out ‘ere? I’m workin’, myself,” the journalist asked as he withdrew his hand, regardless of whether or not the other accepted his offer to shake. Dakota didn’t hesitate to answer his own question before he expected an answer from the other as well, figuring it was only fair.

Jensen allowed a smile to tug at his lips as Callisto chirped to him happily. Admittedly, he was a little embarrassed by her name, at least the reason behind it. It was so important to him, the only thing he could remember, but it may seem silly to others. He huffed out a laugh and rubbed the back of his neck.
"Yeah and this is Bootes."
He motioned to the rattata. Bootes sat on his haunches and waved to the other trainer, chittering in greeting.
"They're named after constellations. I uh, have a thing for the sky. Stars are pretty amazing. Oh! I'm uh, Jensen."
He grinned and took Dakota's hand, shaking it before taking his hand back and scratching at Callisto's head while Bootes scrambled up his pant leg and clung to his hip. Jensen seemed confused for a moment, looking around him and making a small noise in his throat.
"Isn't this the road to Jubilife? I thought I took a shortcut but now I'm kinda lost honestly...."
“Nice to meet ya, Jensen, Bootes, an’ Callisto,” the strawberry blonde chuckled softly, shrugging off his backpack to retrieve two of his own pokeballs. It was only fair, he figured, if he introduced his own pokemon as well. “Meet Knuckles ‘n Tails, I named ‘em after a show I used to watch when I was a kid,” he introduced them as they came out of their pokeballs, the Treecko first and Ponyta second.
Knuckles merely nodded at them, blatantly sizing them up for a potential threat before turning away, taking in his surroundings as well. Meanwhile Tails whinnied and scratched at the ground for a moment with her hooves, seemingly unable to take her eyes off Callisto. The little ball was fascinating to her.
“Ya, ah, took a wrong turn somewhere. From ‘ere, it’d be south on Route two-oh-four,” he said as he looked up for a moment, spotting the sun in the sky and pausing for a moment before pointing south. “Thatta way, somewhere. This is, uhm,” Dakota paused for a moment as he shifted his weight uncomfortably, glancing towards the destroyed town that was thankfully blocked by the hill at the moment. “This is where Floaroma Town used to be,” he finished reluctantly, scratching his neck as he glanced to the side briefly.

Holy shit the guy named his pokemon after sonic?
"Dude you named your pokemon after sonic?"
It left him without warning, and he winced slightly at the tone of his voice. Joking, but perhaps a bit too joking. He didn't want to offend what was possibly his first friend on his adventure.
"Whoa sorry dude, didn't mean to offend. I watched the show kinda recently, it's on netflix."
He grinned easily, shoving his hands in his pockets. Callisto floated around Tails head, taking in the fire and flames and chirping a greeting before planting herself on the fire pokemon's back, twirling her leaves slowly. Bootes on the other hand, chittered at Knuckles blatant sizing, and skittered forward to paw at the Treecko.
The smile faded from Jensen's face and he looked puzzled for a moment, having not heard much news from his city. He glanced behind Dakota, toward the hill, and furrowed his brow.
"What do you mean used to be? What happened? I've been kinda...living under a rock let's say.."
“I did, yeah, an’ no offense taken,” Dakota chuckled softly, not minding the blunt question at all. He was glad that Jensen got the reference, if nothing else.
For a moment he watched Callisto worriedly, afraid the hoppip would get burnt on the fire mane, but he relaxed as Callisto settled on Tails’ back. Tails didn’t seem to mind at all either, craning her neck for a moment to see the hoppip before deciding to go on a gentle trot back and forth, not venturing too far away. She was careful, not wanting to make Callisto lose her grip by accident.
Meanwhile, Knuckles rolled his eyes at Bootes and swatted the Rattata’s paw away with a quick little slap. “Play nice,” the blonde grumbled soon as he saw that, nudging the Treecko softly with his shoe. Knuckles crossed his arms over his chest and glanced away for a moment, before chewing on the small stick in his mouth and looking back towards Bootes. Reluctantly, he reached out to pat the rat pokemon awkwardly on the head a couple of times, as if that was some sort of truce.
Quickly Dakota was distracted by the other man, and he visibly tensed as Jensen inquired about the town. “It… It was destroyed by Team Galactic,” he answered bluntly, feeling obligated to tell the truth as usual. He had always been a terrible liar. “There ain’t hardly anythin’ left, now,” the journalist added on hesitantly, once more glancing towards the obstructing hill.

Jensen grinned easily then, more than happy he hadn't offended his new friend. His smile soon dropped however, when he heard the news. He felt his stomach churn as he heard that name again. Galactic. He hadn't heard much about them but so far what he did hear, he hated.
He cleared his throat, trying to figure out what to say.
"They uh....did what now?"
Bootes perked up as Jensen moved forward, aiming for the hill. His heart was racing, which wasn't good with his condition, but he couldn't help it. He approached the hill and took it slowly, Bootes chittering in alarm and tugging on Dakota's pants. Even Callisto, though enjoying her ride, chirped suddenly with alarm. She floated into the air, following her trainer quickly.
Jensen wheezed and grabbed at his chest as he managed to reach the top of the hill overlooking the town, bending over double for a moment as his heart painfully throbbed in his chest. He looked up though, seeing the town and it's horrible state, and his jaw fell open.
The distraction from the devastated town was suddenly gone, and his gut twisted uncomfortably as Jesnsen started going up the hill. It was easy to tell just from watching that there was something wrong with the older man, and he immediately followed to help after Bootes tugged on his pants.
“Take it easy,” he muttered softly, glancing at the destroyed town for a moment before turning towards Jensen. He forgot about wanting to keep his pokemon from seeing the wreckage, and both Knuckles and Tails followed curiously to see what all the fuss was about.
Knuckles merely stared with wide eyes, frozen in place, while Tails huffed and backed off a few steps, turning away from the burnt remains. Neither of them had seen anything like this before.
“It happened not too long ago… I’m a journalist, and I’m s’posed to cover the aftermath,” Dakota explained quietly, looking over Jensen with concern. “Here, take a seat or something, you look like you could use some rest,” the blonde offered hesitantly, knowing they were quite a ways from medical attention, if Jensen needed it.

Jensen flopped rather ungracefully on the ground, rubbing his chest with his gaze downcast. He'd heard so much about that town, how beautiful it was and how peaceful the people were. What had happened? What had Galactic done!?
"I uhm....wasn't e-expecting this when I started my journey. Jesus I've been left in the dark by my damn....it doesn't matter. This is all that's left? This is..."
He didn't have words. He was horrified that was for sure. He looked over at Callisto, who didn't seem to understand judging by the smile on her face, and down to Bootes, who seemed solemn. He figured he should also explain himself, not to worry poor Dakota even more. He'd been exerting himself all day.
"I uh...kinda have a heart condition. Nothing too serious, just aches when I move too much."
For a short while, Dakota remained silent. He gave Jensen a little time to process what he was seeing, hardly able to imagine what a shock it would be to someone who hadn’t even known about the attack. He took a seat next to the other on the hill, hardly noticing how he hugged his knees loosely to his chest as a small source of comfort.
“How far have you come, to get here? And I wouldn’t mind helping you get back to Jubilife, it’s where I live anyway. You can even ride Tails, so you don’t stress your heart too much,” the blonde rambled a little, still preferring not to focus on the remains of the town below even though that was the reason he came here in the first place.
With a quiet sigh, the journalist ran a hand through his hair as he looked back at the charred wreckage below. “Honestly, I… I never thought Team Galactic would go this far,” he admitted quietly, no trace of his usual smile left. “I heard about this right after it happened, but seeing it in person… It feels like it can’t be real.”
Reaching over, he scratched the back of Knuckles' head softly, and the Treecko snapped out of his daze and swatted his hand away before wandering off just a few steps. In silence, he merely joined Tails and hopped up onto the Ponyta's back.

"I'm uh, from Solaceon actually. So not too too far. This is all new to me though. I kind of have amnesia so my parents I guess just tried to keep everything from me so I wouldn't stress out."
He stretched out his legs in front of him, suddenly feeling the itch to leave. It felt like he was trespassing on some mourning ground. He wondered how many people had passed, how many homes were burned to the ground. How many people were homeless and scared now.
"That uh, actually sounds great, thanks for the help. I'm not really used to being so useless you know? ......we should go. I'm starting to get the creeps."
The town was sure to be haunted right? He stood up, leaning forward on his feet for one more look before offering a hand to Dakota.
"Let's go, you got your story yet? If not I can wait."
Dakota couldn’t help but feel sorry for the other, hearing that the guy came all the way from Solaceon with such a condition. And it only got worse when he heard that Jensen suffered from amnesia as well, which surprised him since he had never met with anyone suffering from it before. “Oh, wow- how far back can ya remember?” The journalist couldn’t help but ask curiously, that being the first thing that popped into his mind. “An' I’m sorry, it must be hard, dealin’ with somethin’ like that.”
When Jensen suggested leaving, he nodded his head and readily offered the other’s help to get back up on his feet. “Yeah, I should be good. I can always come back later, if I need more,” the blonde shrugged, not seeming too concerned with his story. Truthfully, he was all too willing to jump on an excuse to get out of there early.
“Knuckles, scoot over. And Tails, ya alright with ‘im catchin’ a lift?” Tails nodded and hooved at the ground anxiously, the Ponyta also wanting to get out of there as soon as possible. “Good girl. Hey Jensen, need help getting’ up? An’ have ya ridden a Ponyta before?” Dakota asked as he turned away from Floaroma Town, with one last lingering look.
“What brings ya all the way out ‘ere, anyway?” The journalist was again curious, as usual not afraid to ask whatever question popped into his mind. Plus he just wanted something else to think about, wanting a distraction from the charred remains.
