"Thank you... " A dry, bitter thanks was tossed at the nurse as Adrien was shifted to a new room. It was larger and still faced the windows, although now included a hovering Dusknoir. Ever since the attack, the silverette had hit the limit of paranoia and had the cyclops pokemon patrol his ward day and night. Despite requests from staff, there was nary a chance he was going to recall it. Not until he was out.
A new hospital ward didn't make him feel any better; still lingered the smell of spirit and the sore sight of invasive nurses barging in every five minutes. And to add to that mix, a police officer now frequented his room for questioning.
No one believed that three assaults in a span of two weeks could be a mere coincidence.
Three assault and hopefully not counting. There was only so much a man could take before he snapped. Adrien, despite regrets over the last 'visit', was already dangerously close to breaking mentally --having nearly given up on living on a few occasions in these three weeks that were wasted in the hospital. It didn't help that his close companion was now held in custody.
It wouldn't be long before the door creaked open once more. Now drowsy due to medicines, the silverette wouldn't even turn to the door - expecting another nurse or just that persuading officer. "Ye... ?" A murmur as he laid flat on his bed, an arm over his eyes as he attempted to get some sleep.
Meanwhile the visitor would be greeted by a Dusknoir, it's sole eye illuminated a brilliant red as it scanned the woman.
in what seems like a very far away land, the sun is shining.
a silverhaired boy stood on top of a rock, recounting the same old story he'd changed so many times out of whim that it wasn't close to the original, something so fictious and yet utterly entertaining that even the green haired girl in the shade, the one that had heared this story a million times over, had to keep one eye on the pages of her book and one eye on the boy out of sheer curiosity.
in what seems like a very far away land, xio is giggling excitedly. and the sun is always shining.
the door creaks open, all she can see the lump on the bed, and a head full of silver hair. xio walks in noiselessly, sliding through the door without opening it all the way, and letting out a quiet whisper. "adrien." it's softly said, but affirming.
and then the dusknoir practically jump-scares her-- forcing her eyes wide open and her to suck in a breath, before she pauses, rationalizes, catches herself and lets the breath go. count on someone who's been tortured to keep a dusknoir as a guard, what had she been expecting? "you still keep the strangest company."
she winces internally. that's a hell of a way to start explaining a disappearance from over five years ago. they both have explaining to do. it feels too surreal that, one way or another, they both ended up here. hopefully firt he'll turn around. it's been too long since she hasn't seen his dorky face.

In between the countless 'Mr. Arkwright's' he had been subjected to came a woman's voice who spoke his first name in a tone as if acquainted. His arm slide up his face as he curious turned to the source. "Yes, do I know..." He paused as eyes set themselves upon a certain greenette. Brows knitted together as he froze, slowly siting up despite the pain.
"... X-Xio?" His voice cracked a little, his visage catering astonishment aplenty. That was Xiomara, wasn't it? It couldn't be... Could it?!
She'd direct his attention to the Dusknoir which left him blank a moment before, "Hades. Down," The Dusknoir would slowly back away, its sole eye still staring down at the woman. The silverette would turn back to the odd-eyed woman, still far from completely digesting the fact that this indeed was Xiomara Green.
"What're you-Why? Aliv-I mean... Where? And wh-" With a hundred and one questions popping in his mind, Adrien had to stop himself before settling for a single worded response, his lips pulling into a small smile. A sole...
"adrien!" she's breathless now, because of all the oxygen she's sucked in as he turned in his rest, the pessimist inside telling her that he probably didn't care any more; but then he says her name, and so she has to say his again.
the dusknoir backs away, glaring at her still, at which xiomara gives the pokemon and coyly triumphant smile, likely earning a worse glare. that's alright. ghosts don't scare her-- and if she has to pick one, she was almost more afraid to confronting adrien than the dusknoir. but she couldn't pace around veilstone and not stop by, not after what liam had told her.
years ago, they'd been thicker than thieves, maybe more. she'd never been sure. but then the flickers of fate forced her sister's life to burn, and then she'd never talked to him again because things had changed too much. now, she feels a little short from stupid and not to far from silly.
he seems flustered, flabbergasted, and each little stumble makes her smile and inch more genuine. "nice to see you haven't changed your dorkish ways." xio gives adrien a smile, but it weakens as he smiles at her, and she waves awkwardly.
"hi."
are you okay, are you hurt? did liam do this? how have you been? why are you in galactic?

His 'Hi' was just reciprocated by greenette, a friendly waved that followed. His smile widened. It was reallt her. The atmosphere between them was just silly, awkward and just plain... juvenile. "Heh.." And most of all, it was amusing. The man would suddenly break the quiet tension between them with a genuine laugh, a hand brought to shield his eyes as he grinned uncontrollably. What was this feeling...
"So awkward, heh. " An honest comment spoken in jest as he shook his head, eyes still hidden behind his hand. Rasing his head, Adrien would turn to the greenette having finally affirmed that this was his... Xio. "How've you been? I've missed you, y'know... " He'd grin, his manner of speech loosening up almost immediately. They were once so close... Now he knew not. Either way, he was genuinely glad to see her.
Gesturing towards the chair near his bedside, he'd beckon for the woman to take a seat. "And dorky? Oh please, I'm not that brat you knew five years ago..." He'd run a smug hand through his hair. "You on the other hand, well - - can't say you haven't grown," A wink as he murmured, hoping to push back his prior fumble. He was back to his normal, flirtatious self despite the circumstances of their reunion.
There were a million questions that came to mind, but elation drowned them all out for now.
it was like two two places had merged into one-- the paradise with the shining sun, and this hospital room with a scent of spirit and anesthesia. they were kids again, and adrien's giggle refreshed her and made her breath out a helpless sigh as she smiled too, a little chuckle as he commented awkwardly about the awkwardness of the situation. "i've been okay," she lied. "i know, you've really done it without me there to look after you," she says, looking down his battered legs-- almost the exact same thing as what liam looked like. but then she looks back at him, green and blue eyes locking quickly with his. her eyes blinked away, watching the dusknoir now. "i'd ask how you've been, but i think i've heard enough about that."
she opens her mouth to ask a question, a hard question, one that will shatter the imagine of the shining sun inside her head, but adrien speaks, and she thinks it's better if they can continue on like this, lighthearted idiots. "no?" she asks, her serious expression splitting into a grin. "i bet you'll go off into rambling in a few seconds." she smiles coyly, eyes rising again to meet his.
"what do you mean? i don't think i'm much taller...maybe an inch or two..." she played coy easily, blinking in apparent confusion before smirking. "you, on the other hand, will forever be stuck at the mental age of fifteen." she smirks, ignoring the seat next to his bed and opting to st on the bed itself instead, relaxing in the cozy mattress, sitting gingerly as not to touch adrien's legs.

Heard enough. The silverette quirked a brow curious as to what this 'enough' was, a little worry as to what she had heard seeping in as well. But for the moment all questions were put aside, her presence sufficient in brightening up another dour day. "Oh?" He'd smirk, mimicking her apprently coyness as he leaned forward and pretended to scan her. "Ah, my bad. Likewise actually, at least when it comes to certain girths," A sly jab and implication.
Adrien would recline on his bed comfortably as she sat by his bedside, nary an objection about it from his side. If he wasn't so bandaged up, he would've wanted to wrap an arm around her, a sort of 'welcome back,'.
Speaking of which --
"Haaaah. So... How'd you find me? I didn't think we'd meet again, that too at a hospital," He'd ask, genuinely curious as his eyes fixed themselves on her. Still as beautiful as he remembered her, if not ten folds more alluring now.
It was odd. His teenager self had fallen for her, but now - - he was just plain confused. She was a friend. A close one and mayhaps nothing more.

she watched him lean forward, his face very close, but she never wavered in her smile or took his eyes off him-- she was coy but she was adamant, and when he did speak she laughed. "i know right, it's hard to keep my waist is so thin, thank you for noticing," she remarks without missing a single beat, eye still locked on to his.
he leans back, though and she relaxes, posture reclining if only by a few millimeters. she doesn't know what to think of adrien. he's always been their for her, and he was definitely one of her greatest friends, at the very least, a friend she trusted completely, devoid of all her present day cynicism and criticism. he's a treasure for a life time ago, and she's like a sphinx, and wants to keep it safe.
"it's impossible to avoid your name in galactic..." she mutters, idly looking out the window while casually dropping the fact that she joined galactic.
she did a lot of crazy things in that five year gap.
"and well, the hospital is your fault." she smiles. "personally, i'd have preferred reuniting back in celestic town. "
half of her wants to just collapse on the bed. she ran from solaceon to veilstone in less than two days, as soon as she had heard, and the exhaustion rushes into her, making her eyelids swoop down and open up in a slow motion blink, but then immediately after her blue eye is on adrien again, giving him a sidelong glance to see what he'd have to say.

"E-Eh..." For a moment there the man was caught off guard before smirking again, Xio apparently having either missed that or skillfully retorted to leave him without a comback. And then, ever so casually the greenette reveals a rather... Disturbing fact.
He'd raise his head. "Galactic? How did you... Oh, oh no, no..." Realization struck and Adrien would shake his head disapprovingly. In an unforseen turn of events, Xiomara Green had joined Galactic. How? When? So many more questions, not enough time.
"You reappear after half a decade to tell me you've joined Galactic?" There was an undertone of helplessness and concern in his voice. Of all the people, he didn't want to lose her. Not again. "Why? I mean, look at where it's brought me," A hand would gesture towards himself as he sighed. Furthermore, of all the folk in Galactic Aster and himself were the most dangerous. Not just to others, but to themselves.
And to get Xiomara tangled up in such a mess? Never.
she smirks back and shakes her head, glad that neither of them have lost their touch with words, despite having lost touch with each other. apparently, anyway, because both of them are in the same crime syndicate without really having known, and that's a strange occurrence as any.
well, to be truthful, she's known for a while.
but she never knew how to approach it, because once she revealed herself everything would come to the light. her sister's death, her brother's conviction for murder, the alarming robbery of the greens' house only two days after they left for a vacation to kalos. xio, sneaking away from celestic town and playing with being a little mercenary programmer in veilstone, the sudden attempted murder...everything would unravel, and she didn't want it to.
"yep," she said finally, no longer looking him in the eye. anger flickers across her mismatched eyes before she blinks it away. "i could easily say the same for you."
she pulls up her hand, and then rests it on his knee. "i can't explain everything...i--," she says, feel a wave of guilt wash over her, because adrien look likes been through enough, too much to learn that his best friend had somehow turned into a criminal, one that's in galactic.
she grits her teeth, her grip on his knee becoming tight before she realizes and quickly lets go-- but her eyes don't let go of his as she says, "well, i'm not the one getting caught up in plots to overthrow cyrus, then getting myself tortured of liam summers of all people. where did you go wrong, adrien?"
she shakes her head. "where did we go wrong?" she mumbles.

Adrien's lips purse as he studied Xio's visage, the fleeting anger she expressed hadn't gone unnoticed although he refrained from commenting on it. He flinched ever so slightly as she gripped his knee, about to speak when she revealed more.
'Cyrus. Liam Summers.' The concern and guilt he expressed would vanish as shock and confusion took over. "How do you..." Eyes narrowed. "Who told you this?" The silverette's voice grew impulsively. The coup was out -- how? Who? Who did Xio know within Galactic well-enough to be informed of both the coup and that Liam Summers was the perpetrator.
Aster couldn't have told her. That only left Lena Ruddy and Liam Summers himself. "One of them told you didn't they? Stay away from Lena and Liam," The silverette woulf abruptly snap, her question ignored for now. Aster needed to be informed of these new developments. "They're nothing but trouble, " Eyes would refocus on his legs, recalling how both the couple had taken turns assaulting him.
A pause as anger unexplainably arose within him, he'd restlessly look around and a hand ran through his hair. "We didn't go wrong. I have no idea why you're in Galactic but I'm here for the greater good," His words were stiff and he refused to meet her gaze. "I don't care why you're in Galactic, but you need to leave. Please. Cyrus can't be trusted after what happened in Floarama..."
A deep inhale as Adrien closed his eyes painfully. Why was he getting so worked up? A hand slide into hers, his voice lowered considerably now.

NEXT TIME BEWARE THE NIGHT, FOR ALL CATS ARE BLACK IN THE DARK.
everything is blue
xio rolls her eyes, which is odd, because any other day someone stumbled around trying to figure out how she's found out something she'd be flashing them a grin. instead, she gives adrien a cold, vacant look. "how do you think i found out you were in the hospital?" if this was a location anyone could find out, adrien was doomed. especially if he was a member of the coup like liam said he was. xio knew she was in the safe zone for now, but adrien wasn't.
which was what annoyed her most about what he said next. her eye twitches in irritation: a tiny, microscopic flicker in her face as she eyes him, the flicker turning to a ripple. xio watches adrien, his hand going through his hair, a notion that could have taken her back several years to his nervous, angry habits, but the words that accompanied this flew over her head, because honestly? his stiff, distant words and indignant self righteousness...
"i've never heard anything more hypocritical in my life," she says simply, mismatched eyes holding disdain as she eyes adrien. "you're right. you don't know why i joined galactic. i'm glad your reason is noble, though." she gives him an impatient, sorrowed smile, refusing to say anything else. because it was okay when liam assumed she was doing whatever she wanted and could leave whenever she liked, because liam didn't know her. well. not saying he wasn't correct, but the assumption coming from adrien took her aback.
she had come here expecting answers-- no, she'd come here expecting a long over due talk with her best friend. but all she got were accusations and obligations, the two things that irked her the most. her hand pulled back, away from his, away from his warmth, as she slowly, elegantly, stood up.
"it wasn't your fault." the proclamation is weak at best, but her own resolve tightens. it won't happen again.
"goodbye."
she turns to walk out, feeling a rush of uncertainty, frustration and something else she can't explain.
Post by adrien arkwright on Jul 21, 2016 13:30:26 GMT
Crimson eyes narrowed at her comment, it seemed that Liam or Lena were, in the end, connected to her in one way or another - - an unexplained frustration perking up that Xio was potentially acquainted with the former.
The mood suddenly shifted when Xio spoke up again, Adrien could only look up at her with a discombobulated gaze; momentarily lost before swallowing down the lump in his throat. He didn't understand the implications he made at first, but realization hit like a freight train when she spoke - that his words were mayhaps wrongly phrased. "Xio, I meant... " His voices trailed off, as he helplessly watched her slip her hand out of his, teeth gritting together as anger swelled up inside of him.
"I don't know why you joined Galactic but I...Galactic isn't... I meant, tch." For once, Adrien Arkwright had no words. No lies. No excuses. Dumbfounded the spy remained as he himself was unsure of what had just had just happened. A hand ran through his hair again as the situation slipped out of his grasp. It didn't help that he couldn't get up, that he couldn't move or reach out to her.
"it wasn't your fault."
Eyes refocused on her. "Really?!? Is that why you left without a word? Ditched everyone... Ditched me and left?" He'd snap as he watched her move away, his anger getting the better of him. Her reasons may have justified, may have been crucial or life-changing but right now he couldn't think. He wanted to be selfish. Unrestrained. Childish. Just... "Goodbye"
Something shattered within him. Eyes lowered as he spoke, his voice nearly inaudible as guilt filled his intonation.
"Hah... Thanks. Thank you for letting me know, this time."
