major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
"i think it's a bit too late for that." a smile and a chuckle, both seemed somewhat forced. but she was right, the boy was obsessed, constantly looking over his shoulder, worrying about things that might come. that had to stop. he'd try, but he wasn't so sure if he'd succeed.
his attention returned to the battle, violent as expected from two dinosaurs as they battled head on, the cranidos leading at the moment. he focused, head back in the game as he waited. whistle. a higher tone, indicating for the aerodactyl to turn its body and fly upwards, away from the dinosaur. and so it did, narrowly missing the thunder attack despite its lowered speed.
up into the air it went again, though liam knew he had to hurry. whistle. back down came the aerodactyl, body rotating to the side as it fell, straight down, pulling up at the last second just inches from the ground, its mouth wide again as it attempted the same move from before, fangs glowing white.
"today's only like another hour though. you sure you can't skip whatever it is you need to do?"
She shrugs, cringing as the Cranidos readies itself, only to get crunched by the Aerodactyl. The thing shrieks, almost as loudly as the thunder in the sky. A third column of lightning comes down as the pokemon expresses its rage, obviously fed up with the battle already. He was going to get reckless. Fuck this thunder, Infant was ready to use raw power, even if it wouldn't hurt the flying pokemon. The cranidos sprints around the field in a circle, over and over until it skids to a half upon finding to right rock at the right time. It doesn't care if its thunder has hit-- the pokemon rebounds off the side of a large rock with strong legs, sending its little body flying toward the aerodactyl, skull forward and ready to make contact with the fleshy side of the prehistoric bird.
Lena finds herself biting her lip in her indecision, swaying back and forth as she considers his offer. Only another hour... "I can't.." she mumbles, knowing that she's running out of time to get there even now. Lena can't start this new path as notoriously unreliable, not after she already missed about three calls to spend the day with Liam. "I'm at three strikes.."
cranidos - 23 - 25% hit by ice fang! used thunder! used pursuit!
the aerodactyl though powerful could not escape the wrath of the lightning that reigned down, striking a wing causing it to give out. with one wing not functioning the dinosaur could not keep itself up in the air, body leaning to one side before falling down, hitting the floor with a thud but not before taking another attack from the cranidos, a roar of pain before fainting.
a shot of red emerged from a pokeball and back the dinosaur went, safe and sound in the capsule. once that was done he approached the girl, keeping an eye on the cranidos just in case it decided to attack.
"three strikes? what does that mean?" the spy wasn't even sure if galactic used such a system. "what happens when you get another?" the spy had reached where she was standing, a concerned look on his face.
Little Boy takes his victory perch atop the fallen aerodactyl, clawing at scratching at the fainted pokemon's flesh until it's recalled. The cranidos hits the ground with a thud and a huff, obviously upset with this outcome. it makes a crying noise, soon shakes it off, and trots back to Lena, standing behind her, eyeing the approaching Liam with curiosity and suspicion. Deep clicks come from its throat as he stands in front of her. "Relax," she grumbles to the pokemon, nudging him with her foot. The things jumps at the touch, but calms down and sits.
She turns back to Liam with a sigh and a shaking head. "No, no, I'm sure it's nothing like that. I just don't want to inconvenience anyone." She reaches out to him, cold but soft palm coming to rest on his cheek. "I used the wrong words, sorry," she offers a smile for him, but even behind that she gets more anxious by the second. Time is running out, and this is going to be a long goodbye.
dinosaurs were interesting creatures; once extinct now brought back to life with the help of research and technology. it shows to prove just how violent and wild they were, the cranidos a prime example as it continued to pound away at the fallen aerodactyl. even as the boy walked over it was eyeing him like he was predator.
or prey.
"i guess i do. but i can't help it," he responded. her smile was reciprocated with one of his own, a hand reaching up to cup hers on his cheek before intertwining, hands falling. "how long do we have left?" he asked, wanting to make the most out of it.
even though they spent last night and most of today together it just wasn't enough, he wondered if anything would ever be enough. he kept her distracted for a while but it was all about to end, about to revert back to normal.
"About 30 minutes.." she's mumbling it, almost afraid of his reaction if she says it too loudly. She falls against him with a thunk, resting her body weight on him as they stand. Eyes close, she relishes in the comfort he provides. She lazily recalls the cranidos, who was about to run after some bird pokemon. "I can't do that." He should know that by now; it's only been the general theme of the past 20-something hours.
"The world isn't going to stop for two people, not unless that's your new goal with Dialga," she laughs, albeit halfheartedly. "And even then, I'd tell you not to be so selfish." Lena can't help but have their time limit stuck in her head. It makes her anxious, even if she is lounging on him. "You could do much better things with power like that."
disappointed, but he expected just as much so her answer didn't upset him. he shrugged his shoulders, arms wrapping around the girl as she leaned forward. he laughed, not sure if his original intentions with the legends remained the same.
a world without violence sounded good, but after his numerous encounters with the man he can't help but feel like violence was sometimes needed, sometimes required. he was never really a violent person before joining galactic, which was ironic seeing as that was why he joined; to abolish violence.
"and what plans do you have? what is lena ruddy going to do with power?" curious, seeing as he still doesn't know why.
thirty minutes. not long enough, but it would have to do. "you still have my number? if you're ever in trouble..." voice lowering at the end.
Lena grunts as she feels him embrace her, arms previously dangling down coming to wrap around his waist. she doesn't have an immediate answer to his question, and it bothers her. her silence seems to drag on for forever. "whatever is needed." it makes her nervous. what plans do you have?
whatever Aster tells her, honestly. but she can't say that to liam, not under the circumstances. lena is forced to think about whether what she's doing is right or wrong, and who wants to do that? "too many rangers want me gone, especially after the floaroma incident. nobody knows where i am. there's nothing left for me there, and i never did anything great." she reasons with herself out loud, voice tired and defeated as she thinks back on it. "my absence is probably welcome."
she doesn't dare move, not if she doesn't have to. she could stay like this for eternity, or so it feels.
"of course i still have it, why wouldn't i?" truth be told she had memorized it, but she wasn't about to tell him that. "please, i can take care of myself. i just beat you, didn't i?"
"i just think you're safer off with the rangers than with him," he replied, careful with his choice of words. he could hear how tired she was, and if being with the rangers did that to her then she was probably better off with galactic, as much as he hated to admit. "your absence would be their loss."
he laughed, hearing her next response. "you did." if he wasn't so distracted maybe he could have put up a better fight. "unfair tactics though; using cuteness to your advantage."
thirty become twenty, twenty become ten, time quickly ticking away. he hadn't noticed how fast time went, still embracing, still talking. but eventually, no matter how hard he hoped it didn't, the clock hit zero.
"i can make my way back from here," he said. he had no intentions of going back to veilstone, not the day after the incident, not when there was still an active crime scene. he just hoped she'd fly straight past it without noticing.
"call me soon." he was unsure when they'd meet again, but with a genuine smile, happy on his face, he hoped for the best.
The sun is below the mountains now, rosy pinks and oranges caressing the clouds as dusk is upon them. The noises of their environment change, become more wild. "Try telling them that," she's stalling now, taking her time to respond to him so she doesn't have to leave so quickly. She'll be late, but at least she'll show up. She smiles at his comment, worming herself closer, if possible. "If that's what it takes, then I'll have to train them to work to your weaknesses."
Lena doesn't realize how tight her grip has gotten on him until it's time to let go. "Nooo.." she's whining, even though she knows that it's her fault they have to separate. As her arms unlock she feels cold, lacking the body heat Liam had previously been providing. There's a childish frown on her face- she almost crosses her arms. The farewell is upon them. "I will. Let me know when you make it home safe, okay? Promise. You don't have a choice, you have to promise." She holds out a pinky, smiling as it intertwines with his. She closes the gap again, only briefly, to kiss him one last time. After all, this could be goodbye for a very, very long time.
Lancer waits for her to board, and she slumps onto the bird's back without making the effort to look professional. Blue eyes linger on him as she's lifted into the sky.
