major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
As the night's activities draw to an end, Jason finds himself leaning over the balcony, a wine swirling in his glass. He'd gotten seperated from everyone along the way, and finds himself in his own company. It's pleasant. There's few people, mostly enjoying the view and sometimes talking in hushed tones.
He decides to take out his phone, sending a quick message to Isabelle. The view's nice here. Find me, completely forgetting to put his coordinates. His liquor maybe have made his tongue more loose, something that he's sure to regret in the morning but can't put up the effort to do something about it.
He idly pets Kaede while he waits, fascinated with the yellow rings embedded in her fur. It's funny how alcohol can make everything more interesting.

isabelle receives her text, thinking about how odd it seems before realizing jason's obviously not all there. in fact, the thing she worries about more is how he manages to type coherently even while slowly slipping off into the comfy pool of intoxication. she thinks about it for a bit, shuddering while remembering what had allegedly happened when she had been in his place. she wondered if she could get more dirt on him.
when she opened the door to the balcony, she finds jason staring into kaede's fur like it has the universe's stars embedded on it and she realizes he's drunk. "yo," she calls idly, waving at him with a tired smile. the night was long, and full of so much things and she has too many questions, but she oddly feels like regardless of what the answers are, it won't really change her opinion of him. jason's reputation is, after all, far beyond repair.
"it is a nice view," she commented idly, patting kaede as well. the two combined give the umbreon far too much attention, mostly because the pokemon is like the odd halfway, the one thing they can both agree on. although that too, is always a cause for disagreement. she can't help it, jason spoils the girl too much.
isabelle seems strangely pensive, like she's wound up about something, but it's a wonder if drunk jason will be able to notice. a night breezes blows in, like he calm before a storm.
Jason has never been much of a wild drinker. He's had his fair share of fights and outbursts, but he's generally fun to hang out with. His text only comes out perfect because of muscle memory, his finger mechanically going to each letter and autocorrect fixing the rest.
Isabelle's voice snaps him out of his staring. She's...pretty. He'd never noticed before, but in his drunken state she's practically the belle of the ball. Jason smiles lazily at her, just happy to be in the air of her presence.
"Hi." He says, taking a hand from Kaede to wave. "It is." Jason responds. It's not particularly an awkward silence -- at least, in his opinion. He's content with giving Kaede attention with Isabelle beside him.
But when he looks at her face, she's not as relaxed. She looks like she wants to say something, and he isn't going to hold her back.
"You know, your face is cute like that but you're going to get wrinkles if you keep scowling."

it's selfish, but it's not like isabelle has ever done anything to show off evidence that supports the contrary opinion. she plays it around in her mind a bit- it must be another rebellious phase. well, it's more subtle aggression than the hair-dying levels of shit she'd gotten into back then, but having utterly frivolous jason around would probably get them to think twice about repeating last year's disaster.
meh, it's worth a shot. is isabelle really worried about a boy rejecting her? preposterous.
she's just arrived at her conclusion when jason speaks again, earning him an ironic scowl from isabelle. "you'll get a broken nose if you keep talking," she stated, the threat rolling off her tongue like butter, and this far in she didn't know whether there was any venom behind it. it had gone on for too long now. they were a lot more mature, and yet always the same.
she reaches into her purse and pulls out an invitation.
"ok. i'll be straight with you. there's another event like this, but this one's in hearthome. you managed to not screw this one up, so be my fake date again?"
she's not sure if that was the kindest way to put it, and despite being no stranger to men, never quite got her head around their sense of pride, although she had a grip on her own well enough, she gave jason an expected glance, perhaps not really being able to think of a reason he could refuse.
"S' worth it." He grins, knowing that the threat didn't particularly hold any water. Their relationship may have gotten better, but their banter has not. It wouldn't be the same without the empty threats.
He pauses when she reaches into her purse, pulling out a fancy invitation in engraved writing. Hearthome. His hometown. Where people knew him -- and Isabelle, for measure. And when they left, most people remember them being bitter enemies, not enchanted lovers.
He frowns. There are several implications here; the fact that they're coworkers, them going to their own hometown, not to mention the lingering feelings of attraction in his mind. He can't dig himself deeper into this hole. A part of him is tempted to take the offer, but he knows he can't. Jason knits his eyebrows together and rubs his face.
"Fake date again? W-why did you come to me for this?" He says. It comes out harsher than he intends, but liquor makes his lips loose. He leans back, arms folded across his chest in flat out refusal.
"I--no, I can't. Why don't you just pay someone to do it for you?"

besides, their banter was watered and nourished by the both of them, it's not like anything jason has will ever honestly hurt her, as much as he can poke, he won't get past skin. or so she thinks.
jason doesn't seem to be taking it well, but that's to be expected. the dolt actually takes being a ranger seriously, and isabelle supposes she does, too. but unlike jason, a ranger simply isn't all she is. it's a side thing. it's an added extra. its the result of the side of her that actually somewhat cares about playing fair and making sure people don't die.
she takes a breath and begins her pre planned explanation-- "because you're the--" she throws the rest of her breath out of her mouth and nose, the words lost along with reason. why don't you just pay someone to do it for you? isabelle sees red. she doesn't understand at the point, the statement cuts sharper than any threat fulfilled, but somewhere along a very thickly set line has been crossed and she's done.
she should've understood it better when isabella had explained it to her, in the hallway with cuddles in her arms. no one would ever really care to poke deeper than her money, so why did she even bother? her face twitches, trying to placate itself as she swallows her pride that keeps trying to make its way out of her mouth.
