major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
he shifted in the couch as the girl crawled on top of him, resting her head against his chest. he shut his eyes once more. he slowly breathed in and out, pausing at every instance of her voice. "it's a good kind of exhausted," he laughed. he gave a sigh of bliss, it was the best morning he's had in a while.
but it wouldn't last for long. "hmm?" he voiced. soon he felt metal wrapping around his wrist followed by a strong click and then another. his eyes opened to see cuffs around his wrist and the shelf. but he thought all of this was a playful joke.
when the girl sat up he still had a smile on his face, chuckling softly at whatever this was. "please," he spoke. he tugged at his wrist, causing metal to clash with metal. it was somewhere in the middle of her speech where he finally sat up, grabbing a nearby pillow to cover up.
"very funny, please uncuff me," he laughed. but as she finished her speech and sat down on a chair opposite of him his expression started to morph. what was the once blissful liam was now a confused one, and one that felt a bit hurt.
"you can't be serious." his voice no longer playful; instead, shaky. he tossed the phone aside, realizing that even if this was true he had literally zero people he could call.
hearing that sorry made his stomach toss and turn. "are you really going to arrest me?" he asked, eyes staring at hers. her outfit was similar to that of a ranger. "w-why? is this about what happened to pumpkin?" he asked more, cringing at the mention of the name.
She can only stare, eyes unfeeling as he struggles. There's a frown on her face, but not much more. She's steeling herself for the worst of, staring straight out of that dusty window that she's paid so much attention to. Her body heaves with a sigh as she pushes herself up, ignoring the sinking feeling in her stomach. "It's not about Pumpkin. That has nothing to do with you." Her voice is monotype, more machine than human. Numb is the only way she could actually go through with this.
"I told you why."Galactic.
She has to. She's saving her own ass, but she doesn't mention that to him. Instead she plucks his clothes off the ground. "You're going to get dressed, and you're not going to run." A pokeball reassures her message, wooden floor creaking under the weight of the released Staraptor. It was better he only knew one of her pokemon. It would save her later. She unclips the cuffs and nears the stair entrance, sliding around the Staraptor that guards it. "He'll be watching over you while I run downstairs. If you're thinking about running, look at his talons and reconsider." Another sigh and she descends the creaking stairs, mind set on getting something to drink and eating any decent food that still remained.
Unfortunately for her, that plan wouldn't go as smoothly as she hoped.
Following the events of Floaroma his mission was one he was almost entirely ambivalent about. perhaps there was some lingering interest in the black haired boy, mostly concerning his reasons and goals for joining the organization, other than that Aster recognized the man as a decent battler and little else.
The mission was to track Liam Summers. The spy has gotten a bit lax of late and for one reason or another and there was fear of betrayal in the eyes of the higher ups. Thus he’d been following the boy since mid-afternoon yesterday tracking via Eleven, his Gengar. The ghost pokemon’s ability to move through shadows made it easy to follow the man as he met up with a certain Lena Ruddy. According to reports over the last few months the two had gotten rather close she, however, wasn’t allied with the organization, and was a blank slate as far as anyone knew.
The two as the sun sets make their way to an abandoned cabin of sorts, he doesn’t need Gengar to see where this was going. He waits about an hour before entering the dwelling himself quietly waiting downstairs. Gengar slips through the bedroomsof the room placing a small microphone in one of its hidden nooks. If Liam were to reveal any kind of secret concerning their organization the pokemon was authorized to subdue the trainers, though by the sounds of it they’d subdue each other soon enough.
The pokemon and his trainer by extension get everything but information... It’s only when morning comes that circumstances change exponentially. Aster now very much intrigued by the current situation calls a second pokemon out. He sits at the kitchen table waiting for the woman to come down the stairs, and as she reaches the ground floor does A scizor carefully moves behind her its pincers open hovering around her neck. Judging by the pokemon’s sharpness it’s obvious it’d already boosted its attack exponentially.
“Ms. Ruddy.” His voice is both kind and incredulous., “You’ve had quite the evening I know, but could you place your pokemon on the floor and remove all of your ranger gear. I’d like to have a conversation.” He’d notion the woman to wooden chair at the opposite end of the table/. The man would then pull a cellphone out calling the man of the hour. “Take down the guard, and come down stairs. You have some explaining to do.” The line drops dead.
the change of tone in her voice leaves him with an uneasy feeling. "galactic?" he questioned, almost daring her to say it. but before he could say anything else more orders come and a flash of white; the bird now taking up most of the room. his hand now uncuffed rubbed against his wrist. that wasn't the first time he's been in handcuffs, but it was the one that hurt the most.
nothing else was said between the two as she slipped downstairs. he stared at the bird, sizing it up as he put on his clothes. his pokeballs were still there in his pockets, which meant he could easily send out the excadrill. he was about to, hand at the ready, but then his phone rang.
he answered. no words were spoken from the boy, but the order was clear. with his hand still around the pokeball he simply pulled it out and pressed the button, calling out the excadrill. the mole filled the already tiny room. "keep it distracted," he spoke briefly as he slipped around the bird and headed downstairs.
quite abruptly he walked down the stairs to see two people who hurt him, sitting across each other at the table. eyes shifted between the man and the girl, unsure whose side he should take.
he ignored both of them for now, instead watching curiously as he stood by the staircase, the sound of pokemon battling upstairs audible.
The sudden regret of not having a pokemon on guard makes her sick to her stomach, and Lena realizes the gravity of the situation. Still, she stands proud despite her precarious position. She realizes she's been holding her breath the second blue eyes fell on the stranger. Familiar, but she fails to remember from where. The scizor may hold her very life in its claws, yet she refuses to cower; shoulder stand tall, chip up, indignant. She's scowling, eyes darting as far to the right as they can as she hears the chaos erupt upstairs, followed by Liam's descent. She doesn't look at him. She can't, not now.
The first thing to hit the ground is a holstered gun, hidden at her thigh, under her jacket. The next to fall is her belt in its entirety. Pokeballs hit the floor, but remain sealed. She frowns. No luck. Lena has nothing to say-- he's got her in a check mate, and she has no option but to comply. The moves carefully as the jacket falls off of her shoulders, revealing an array of gear. "You might want to disable those." she scoffs, her rough voice near cracking.
Shit.
All of the signs should make sense. She tries to remember anything behind her, any hidden noises, but comes to realizes her bubbly emotions dulled her senses. Her focus on getting out with Liam made her incompetent, and now she's paying the price. There's a thud upstairs- she can feel every beat of her heart. Please, please- Heavy footsteps. That's not Lancer.
She feels her racing heart drop to her stomach. Lena Ruddy is out of options. She forces a smile.
All is going well. Yellow eyes scan the floor peering through a number of items. “It seems you’re not one for traveling light.” Eleven would appear from the floor boards collecting each of the items placing giving the more important ones to the galactic spy himself to turn off. He’d empty the bullets from the gun muting the supplies in the jacket, he doesn’t turn everything off as seeing a person blip off a map entirely would most likely raise some form of alarm. As he does this Liam appears in the doorway. “Come on. You’re an introvert, but you’ve never been this shy, you weren’t last night.” He stifles a laugh motioning for the boy to take a seat at the table between Lena and himself. As the upstairs rumbles Aster only sighs, “For a spy you’re not very discreet.”
“Five, standby.” The pokemon would remain close by but no longer was Lena’s life in any immediate danger. ”“Before we begin..” the man bows his head. “I apologize for the rough treatment. Truly my goal isn’t to harm you or your pokemon and at the end of this meeting you’ll be free to go, unharmed alongside your pokemon.” His eyes meet hers they’re not malicious by any means it wouldn’t even be much of stretch to say that Aster was genuine if only this once.
The man takes a short breath preparing himself now. “Lena, what’s galactic’s goal?”
After her answer regardless of it’s legitimacy he wouldn’t argue instead he’d turn to Liam, “Why did you join galactic Liam, be honest.”
shit. the man had been listening in on them for quite some time, he assumed; he just wasn't sure how much he heard. everything liam said in the cabin was fine, but before that; he basically divulged galactic's entire plan to the girl, who was revealed to be a ranger.
"i never said i was good at it," he shot back, but joined them at the table. he walked past the scizor, being cautious about it. he knew it was strong, much stronger than the mole who was busy upstairs.
so there he sat at the table, unsure what this meeting was. had the man not shown up he would most likely have been arrested and in jail soon, but he wasn't sure if he preferred him here at all, after seeing the state lena was in.
it was like they she was a hostage, at the mercy of the scizor, ready to strike at any time. and even though she had betrayed him, he wanted no harm to come to her, especially not from the hands of the other spy.
there was a brief pause that the man took and so liam used that pause to sneak in a sentence, looking over at the girl for a brief moment.
"lancer's fine, zu's just keeping him occupied," he said, though he suspected that the girl had other worries on her mind.
and so it begun, first question going to the girl then the next to him. he waited until it was his turn to speak.
"to recreate the world to rid it of violence." he knew not to mess around with the man. his answer his short and clean, and it was the truth. but there was more to it; that would have to come at a later time.
Shoulders relax as the scizor steps away, though fists remain clenched. Despite her pride, she feels herself flush at the mention of the previous night. Had he been here the whole time? Lena wants to turn into some primal beast and just tear the stranger apart-- instead, she takes the invitation to shit in stride, hands holding over her lap. Lancer can wait-- she can only hope the mole doesn't tear into his fainted body. Lena clears her throat upon the question, dignity oh-so-desperately trying to remain. She stares the man down as he speaks, the question only adding to the jumbled thoughts. Her emotions get the better of her- she can't stop her eyes from darting to Liam, and back at Aster. The movement happens in less then a second, but it's there. Lips purse.
"To secure the legendary pokemon, Palkia and Dialga, as a source for new energy in the world."
That wasn't all Liam's fault-- his information only confirmed that the search was true. The rangers had enough hints to have some idea of what exactly Galactic was planning; even Lena isn't sure if she knows the whole story. The line of questioning shifts, and she's left to hear Liam's answer. Lena's inexperience shows as she searches for the words to say, the actions to do; her life is in no immediate danger, but the thread from earlier stands. She shoots a glare at the Scizor before blue eyes flicker to her belt on the ground.
“I have no intentions of regaling you with sob stories, I’m sure you both have your fair share. I also don’t believe everything we do as an organization is right, but I can promise our end goal, the goal of people like Liam, and Adrien while inept have they proven to be bad people?” He waits for a moment allowing the woman to mull it over.
“Even I, while no means perfect was authorized to use lethal force to protect our secrets, yet you both still breathe.” An eyebrow raises, “Unless you both think I didn’t have a number of opportunities to ‘do the deed’.” He lets the double entendre fly still nonchalant about the situation.
“Nonetheless my point is, we aren’t bad people we stand for a cause we believe in. Many of us believe we’re saving the world with every step we take we hope to get closer to our goal, when in truth we’ve been stagnant for months our higher ups ordering grunts to steal pokemon and for what? Time that could be spent researching is being used to steal bidoofs and buneary from trainers who don’t know how to use them. It’s pointless.” Irritation can be heard as he continues on about the inadequacies in the organization it’s apparent the man is passionate.
“And so I propose this, a change in management.” The man’s voice is serene once again laying his hands on the table, “However for this change we’d need a leader. A new fresh face if you will. As much as you hate us I think you understand our plight Lena, and so I on behalf of all of us who truly wish to change ths world ask...
the man, as much as liam disliked him, made points that he could not ignore. was he fed up with the higher-ups? yes, he has been since the day he joined. did he think a new leader should be appointed? yes. did he think the new leader should be lena?
no. absolutely not.
"what?" blue eyes shifted from the table to look at the man, obviously worked up after the speech. "are you insane? her?" the boy shifted in his seat, arms crossed now as he spoke.
"a minute ago she was trying to arrest me and now you're asking her to go against everything she stands for. people like her are taught to hate galactic, there's no changing that, believe me."
he stopped to take a breath. what he wanted to say was if he couldn't change her thoughts and feelings about galactic then he doubted the other spy or anyone could. was it jealousy that was speaking? was he jealous that she was asked and not him? yes.
"don't do this. don't fall for his tricks or his sweet talk. galactic might not be as bad as you think it is but we're still criminals. most of us are bad for the sake of being bad, there are only a few exceptions."
he stared across at the girl, his voice a bit more calming than before. jealousy aside he was worried about her, about what she might be forced to become. so he pleaded for as long as he could.
“Liam this isn’t a fucking game!” The Aster slams a hand on the table. Scizor and Gengar are both on edge now ready to strike down the boy regardless of their trainer’s orders. “This isn’t about you, or me anymore! When I look at her I see an opportunity a chance to truly put us on the right path again. When we first met and you asked if I stole Tyrunt, do you remember how ambivalent you were, to even the idea that I stole it, even when I hadn’t you were so used to living ‘that’ life it didn’t matter to you.”
We can change that idea, that perception, I won't say everything we do will be by the books, but this is our chance to truly accomplish our goals.” Asters eyes are furious as he glares at Liam. “ I don’t just see a pretty face when I look at here I see someone who will bring us as a team to the next level, and you’re gonna ruin it over what? Your feelings?”
Two would then stand passing the boy, “Eleven, Five restrain him” the man’s movements are brisk as he makes his way to the girl. “Forgive me.” And with that Two fiercely kisses the girl himself.
He knows he’s gone too far, but he must prove his point. With this done the man falls to a knee head down.
“I ask again, please do this for the good of humanity, My power and Liam’s as well is yours.”
Aster's offer is the last thing she expected. Her blank stare contorts as the surprise shows on her face, in her eyes. She's suspicious, but with the energy behind his speech, she has a hard time believing that this is fake. Then again, she doesn't completely trust it to be that easy to become the leader of a major crime organization.
Liam interjects before she has a chance to respond, before she even has a chance to think about responding. She feels her blood begin to boil, all of the accusations of her inadequacies suddenly eating her alive from the inside out. She's vulnerable, and pissed. Aster snaps right back at the younger Galactic, leaving the blond to watch with an admiration-- that doesn't change the fact that she's absolutely livid. Lena plays to be putty in Aster's hands, but not before she forces herself to stand after slamming a white-knuckled first on the table.
"People like her?" she snaps, whipping around the face the raven-haired Galactic. "Are you fucking kidding me? I joined last fucking week, and you're accusing my entire mind set of being changed. Do I look fucking brainwashed to you, Liam? Is that the impression you're getting?" body heaves with her shoulders as she catches her breath- her face is hot, not from embarrassment, but from the fire that comes with constantly being berated and undermined. "If I hated Galactic, you would have been in a cell the second I ran in to you yesterday. But I decided to take the smallest fucking break in the world so I could enjoy myself, but this damn moral fucking obligation to serve my fucking region is a little bit hard to ignore, especially when you throw it in my face." another breath. "The rangers don't fucking want me-- they want someone who they've seen work up from the bottom. And being a trainer certainly doesn't have its rewards, when you realize your fucking pokemon can die if they don't make the cut. Do you know what the feels like? Can you even comprehend how incompetent I've felt for the past month? All I do is push for the top, and land at the fucking bottom, every time. And here you are," she turns to exasperated laughter, hand falling on her hip, "just another jackass" she speaks between gritted teeth, "reminded me that I'm a piece of shit--"
Aster catches her on the tail wind of her rant- forgive me- wha-
Lips lock again, though she's not sure why or how, all she feels are rough hands on her face, another stranger's kiss mingling with her own. To say she's dazed at the end of it is an understatement, and she can only stare at the Spy as he pulls away. Anything else he could have said after that would be ignored. The opportunity to be wanted somewhere was much more promising than to fall back into the dumpster she crawled out of and, despite her previous resolutions to disregard her emotions in major decisions, Lena already has her mind made up. Still catching her breath, she turns away from the Galactic and back to Aster, anger still very prominent on her face. She doesn't care that this face remains nameless. It doesn't matter anymore. None of it does. Fierce blue eyes glance at Liam before returning the the stranger bowing before her.
to liam, the girl was still the same girl he met on that gloomy morning in oreburgh. even though there was an apparent change, his thoughts and feelings about her stayed the same. she was pure, clean from the bad things in the world, and now she was being dragged in; and it was all his fault.
the scizor and the gengar close in. liam shifted in his seat, a bit more tense than before, letting his arms fall to his side. then came the assault, the girl's words cutting deep. there was nothing he could say or do to change her mind, it seems, and even if there was there was the looming problem of being murdered by the scizor or gengar.
then came the kiss.
what was once his best morning turned into one of his worst. he sat there, powerless, helpless, unable to do anything to stop this, to stop him. instead he looked away, shutting his eyes as he waited, waited for all of this to be over.
absolutely.
it was then that he realised none of this would have happened if it wasn't for the man. he was the one convincing her, he was the one offering, and he was the one kissing her. suddenly the boy had a different agenda on his mind; no longer was he focused on the girl, but instead, the man.
a hand quietly reached into his pocket, fiddling around until he found a pokeball. he wasn't sure if it was the one he wanted, but anything was a gamble at this point.
"lena--" he spoke, blue eyes looking at what could have been. he feigned a smile. "leave."
he only had a brief moment of opportunity to do this. a hand swiftly came out of his pocket and pushed the middle of the pokeball. a flash of white and suddenly the what was empty cabin was now full: a steelix.
She says yes and for a moment all is good. There's nothing that can ruin this moment for Aster this is truly the start, before he can begin talking further about his plans however Liam turns over his anger peaking now. Aster isn't as much horrified by the turn of events as he is annoyed with himself. He should have expected the man to react this way. The trainer was a loose cannon at heart.
They agree in that Lena has to go. His eyes don't move from the black haired boy. "Lena, find Adrien in Veilstone, Tell him Aster sent you. I know it doesn't make sense, but your goal is to collect at least two more badges." He'd explain everything she needed to know there. "I'll protect Staraptor in the meantime take this."The man passes Seven's pokeball to the girl, "Safe travels Director Lena, I promise I wont fail."
Yellow and blue clash for the umpteenth time as their tie break battle begins. "So it's come to this."
The building shakes as Liam drops a pokeball releasing the massive steel type. The pokemon expands through the ceiling rocking the foundations of the already old cabin. The ceiling already collapses causing two pokemon to fall one being Excadrill the second being Staraptor the latter unconscious. It's apparent the building wont last anymore than five minutes, meaning he had five minutes to win, save staraptor and get out. "Brick break aim for the Excadrill and don't let up." Scizor dashes forward the double swords dance boosted steel type would dash forward in an attempt to slam it's claw against the opposing steel type for super effective damage. He then give a secondary order to Eleven, "Get staraptor out of here."
"It doesn't have to be like this Liam." He calls to the trainer as dust and pillars begin to collapse around them.
"You're so close to your goal don't half ass it now."
This is.. all too overwhelming. Lena is forced to watch the consequences of her actions play out, and despite the slow-motion effect behind words exchanged, Lena feels like she's moving at breakneck pace. Leave? The moment of silence carries a tension she fully understands, but Aster's commands fall on deaf ears. She may be livid with the Galactic, but that didn't mean she stopped caring for him. She scoffs, pulling her hair back into a loose ponytail, taking the opportunity of their distraction to grab only her belt from the pile. She's handed a pokeball- useless, really. Lena doesn't care for hand outs. She smiles and slips it in her pocket with no intention to release whatever lurked inside.
They don't notice that she's only at the door. It doesn't matter. The building erupts and wood splinters-- her first reaction is to recall the Staraptor that falls limp to what remains of the floor-- there's a delay as the beam struggled to suck up every piece of the bird. Still, relief comes when the process is complete. She's been given her orders, and while she may have intention to follow them, she finds a bit of distaste it being commanded. Not that Aster would hear her protests now, not when the dusty cabin has exploded.
Wood should have punctured her skull by now. She should be lying down, bleeding out. She feels warmth, a genuine smile spreading on her lips as Camerupt enters the game, protective barrier fading as the building structure settles around the steel behemoth.
"Boys are so irrational, Gibraltar," she pouts, ignoring the fact that she had her own outburst moments ago. She can't blame Liam-- she would have done the same if things were reversed. It becomes quite clear that this wouldn't be a peaceful outcome. Lena takes her time, allowing the two to have their spat-- a slowpoke perches on top of the Camerupt, eyes wide and lips curled up in a dopey grin.
This was going to hurt. "Do it." The slowpoke is competent enough to read her wishes and relay them to the lava pokemon underneath it. One stomp and the Camerupt shakes the terrain with EARTHQUAKE, birds chattering, frantic, as they fly away in the distance. Slowpoke's mouth opens wide-- it yawns. Now-sleepy eyes begin to fade to blue as the CONFUSION takes hold of the field. It's screaming. The slowpoke aims to screech into the minds of what lies ahead, the powerful psychic attack failing to discriminate between pokemon and human.
Man, that really would have made a bad-ass battle, too.
