Two more battles down, and Lena reeks of experience. The Eterna gym has been a big boss in the back of her mind throughout her fights in Eterna and Floaroma-- now that she was finally here she finds herself... lost? Neither anxious nor confident. She has full belief in her pokemon to succeed, yet cockiness has shown her its consequences before. Lena takes a breath to calm any nerves she may have had and pushes open the gym doors. The fragrance is the first thing that hits her- flowers, blooming and closing with the time of day all around her. For a moment Lena is in awe, admiring the gardens rather than mentally preparing herself for the task at hand. Gardenia awaits her at the end of the enchanted bath, basking in the sunlight as if she herself is a plant. Lena clears her through, offering a small smile as the gym leader makes small talk and takes up her offer.
"Thank you very much."
Lena takes her end of the field, Ivysaur fitting in here. Gardenia admires her starter pokemon, giving Toad the confidence boost he didn't need before this battle. "Yes, he is very handsome," Lena laughs as the Ivysaur looks back and gives her a goofy-dinosaur grin. Gardenia starts the battle before Lena has to ask-- a cherubi is their first opponent. "Sludge bomb." Toad already knew the drill, but Lena feels committed to formalities in a gym. She had to remain professional in front of those she wished to impress-- she could only hope word would get out. Her pokemon are her resume, her behavior is her interview. The cherbi doesn't expect the hard hit, and Gardenia's command of safeguard doesn't save the cherry pokemon from choking on the venomous sludge that Toad produces. Sure, the thing won't be poisoned but.. it has to be healthy to fight, and the cherubi was very much fainted.
Apparently Gardenia does not expect TMs. Lena was expecting something more exciting that this-- she isn't disappointed, but she isn't thrilled. She is very much in the middle.
A turtwig takes the cherubi's place on the field, sending a razor leaf at Lena's ivysaur. Toad takes the cuts without so much as one flinch-- the grass-type might as well have been sprayed with a toy water-gun. Lena keeps herself from scoffing- Toad doesn't wait for her command before dousing the turtle pokemon in another sludge bomb. The beautiful grass of the field has been muddled, poisoned, dying. Regret is not something Lena can afford to feel right now. The Turtwig falls, despite the withdraw it uses to get away. The sludge bomb makes its way into every crevice, every surface. With time, everything has touched it.
Gardenia seems concerned with Lena's apathy, but the blonde only shakes her head. "I am very focused. Let's continue." With hesitation the gym leader agrees, a nervous laugh coming from closed teeth. Gardenia's trump card clears the dying plants around the field with its natural cure. The grass is once more vibrantly green, and the smell of poison evaporates. Lena recalls her Ivysaur. Sludge bomb was not going to be effective on this roserade- Lancer, her staravia takes Toad's place. "Wing attack."
The staravia takes to the air. "Magical leaf!". Incoming. Leaves, shimmering from their sheen and sharp edges swirl around the staravia, battering it as it swoops down the knock its wings into the roserade. The magical leaf leaves visible scratches through his feathers, but Lancer is hardly down for the count. "Don't give it time to recover, quick attack."
The roserade's grass knot into Lancer's chest is its last ditch effort before talons dig into its skull. Lancer has no remorse for this pokemon; not with the growing weed on it. The grass knot dies and falls off as its user faints into the ground. Lena recalls the flying type, thanks Gardenia for the battle, collects her rewards, and exits.
There has to be something better than this.
