major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
Veilstone was Xerys's birthplace and where he'd grown up. He'd always had quite the affinity for it, and perhaps that was the reason why he still spent so much time here after all this time. That and, obviously, it was pretty close to most of the places he needed to be close to. From his point of view, there was little about it that couldn't be considered close to perfect.
Admittedly, he'd been spending a lot of time around there lately, feeling an odd sense of nostalgia for being close to home. It helped that Xerys hadn't been particularly busy as of late, obviously, and that had enabled him to take the time to make a quick stop back home. He'd spent a few days in the city itself, enjoying the sense of being back in his hometown for a while, even taking some time to visit his home itself at one point, but the coldness of all the stone was getting to him slightly, and he needed a moment to stretch his legs, taking a walk in the direction of the lake.
The weather was surprisingly good today, and Xerys was enjoying the feeling of the wind running through his hair. He'd certainly needed this break, that was for certain.
Xerys's state of general calmness was suddenly burst by the appearance of a Pokemon. He knew there were a couple out here - of course there were - but he hadn't expected to see one so shortly after coming out here. Back in his childhood, wandering about these same places, it had all felt so different, but he supposed back then he also hadn't been anywhere near as concerned with catching Pokemon. Back then he'd just been sitting about and looking at the view and stuff. It hadn't been overly exciting, to tell the truth.
"Paris..." he muttered thoughtfully, eying the Excadrill in his path and then turning to his Ponyta, trotting beside him as ever, properly as he stepped aside a moment. It was generally best not to stand too close, he'd learned that. "Shall we try a little flame wheel?"
The Ponyta emitted some sort of noise - Xerys had never really figured out what to call its cry - and flames engulfed its body as it reared up slightly and then charge right at the Excadrill. It had to be a terrifying sight, honestly, especially if you were the one being charged at. Thank goodness Paris was on his side, he supposed, although he couldn't go too hard right now. They just needed to weaken the other Pokemon a little. Just enough for an efficient capture, you know? He knew what he was doing.
As soon as the other Pokemon had been hit, he frowned slightly in thought. "Okay. Follow it up with a quick ember. Then we can try for the capture." Paris followed this instruction up, aiming towards the other as a burst of flames flew out and towards it. Usually, that was quite effective. Now he could move on with his real goal of actually capturing it.
That had actually gone quite a bit better than expected. Xerys grinned, quite pleased with his success and shooting another grin in the direction of his Ponyta. He liked to think the two of them were a pretty good team, and they were proving to be so far. He'd take him down to the Veilstone Pokemon Centre later on and get him all fixed up. But, before he could do that, of course, another Pokemon suddenly popped up in his path. Unexpected but, of course, at the same time it was utterly logical because that was sort of just what wild Pokemon did.
He didn't want to tire Paris too much, even if he hadn't done too much just yet, but one more shot was unlikely to do too much, so he nodded at the Ponyta again, this time not really needing to tell him where to go with this attack. He was a pretty smart Pokemon. "Let's stomp, then," he nodded at him. That seemed a good starting point. Then he could switch him out for his Snivy and try something there. Maybe not the absolute best choice, but Paris couldn't take on all of the work himself, obviously. Splitting it up should be the best choice.
Paris huffed a little - Xerys would have too, really, if he was doing what he was - moving towards the Graveler with some intensity and bringing his hooves down hard on the other. Xerys would have hoped this would make the other flinch, thus making things infinitely easier for him as a result, but 'twas not to be, because, instead, it seemed quite alright with the situation. That sort of did make sense, admittedly. He wasn't fully sure why he'd chosen that move over all others against a Graveler, it certainly wasn't the right choice for a ground or rock type, but things were done now, and at least it had done a little, if not much.
It looked like the Graveler was planning to retaliate because it heaved itself up and then brought itself down again, hitting the ground with enough force for it to shake a little. Xerys squared himself to maintain his balance more easily, frowning at the opposing Pokemon's use of bulldoze and then turned to check on Paris. He seemed somewhat dazed from this move but not overly harmed, which was excellent. He might have had it in him to try another move before he was switched out although...none of his moves were going to be particularly effective against this Graveler. Alright.
"Paris, switch out for Athica," Xerys decided, bringing out his Snivy instead. This should work much more easily.
Almost as soon as the new Pokemon was out and ready, he gestured in the direction of the Graveler again. "Leaf tornado and then vine whip and I think he'll be done, yeah?" That sounded like a good combination to him. Hopefully, the Pokemon agreed, because a miniature sort of hurricane of leaves started up, surrounding the Graveler and, as it struggled to get out of that, the Snivy quickly followed it up by sending out a couple of vines which easily hit their current opponent amidst his scrambling about. It seemed to be work because, despite its attempts, the Graveler seemed unable to find a way out of its restraints and it was only a few moments before quite successfully, it appeared to have fainted. Xerys would have probably attempted to high five Athica if that hadn't seemed like such a terrible idea.
Confidence had definitely risen by this point, and Xerys, admittedly, was grinning from ear to ear. Bouts of success like this were always desired. For the generally quite calm and stoic outer image that Xerys put effort into maintaining, he couldn't resist a little smile whenever he did well in any sort of battle. But, it only lasted a moment as he came to the realization that he had things he was meant to be doing right now - after all, he had come to Veilstone for an actual purpose - and he really did need to be moving on.
Glancing down at Athica, Xerys made a slight gesture with his head for her to come clamber up onto his shoulder. She was oddly small for a Snivy, only something like 35cm tall, and she weighed nearly half what most seemed to, but Xerys had been carrying her on his shoulder for years, right since he'd first got her, and she'd seemed to have stopped growing by this point. He was used to it, and she seemed to like it.
He was well on his way again when yet another Pokemon popped up unexpectedly. Xerys eyed it for a moment and then began to apply the generally quite successful 'sneak past the Pokemon before it spots you' method, but this apparently wasn't going to be a successful idea because, the moment he took a step forwards, the Phanpy that had just appeared slammed its tail down before him in a particularly decisive manner. Clearly, it wasn't planning to let him go anytime soon.
With a very slight sigh - he really did have places to be getting to - Xerys let Athica jump down from his shoulder once more. She looked somewhat determined, which was more or less similar to the way Xerys currently felt himself. "Alright, darling, let's get this over with. Shoot out another leaf tornado at this little guy..."
Athica seemed happy to oblige, the look of determination still evident in her eyes as she looked intently at the opposing Phanpy for a moment and then summoned up the same gale of leaves that she had before. Xerys glanced between the two Pokemon as she did, noting some tiredness in his own's moves. Evidently repeating the same thing over and over was getting to her, and he knew well enough that repetition led to boredom and boredom led to a lack of productivity, and that no doubt this rule applied to Pokemon just as much as it did to humans. He couldn't have that.
Waiting for the Phanpy to at least partially recover from the sudden attack on it, he called Athica back, returning her to a Pokeball and then pulling out the one containing the Excadrill he'd captured earlier on, bringing him into the fight instead, just as Phanpy moved forwards with rollout. Sure, the Excadrill was nowhere near as strong as it had been towards the start of their battle earlier on, but it was much easier to simply use it against any rock type moves its opponent might have used. As supposed, the Excadrill seemed relatively less put out by the fact that a Phanpy was rolling into it repeatedly than any of Xerys's other Pokemon might have been, somehow managing to shake it off after a few moments and pulling itself back up from where it'd been knocked to the floor.
"Final slash," he decided after a brief moment of thought, giving the Pokemon some time to pick itself up again and getting a Pokeball ready as the Excadrill moved towards the other and slashed his claws at it. That had been easier than expected, really. Watching as the Phanpy struggled slightly to steady itself again, Xerys waited until nearly the last moment before tossing the Pokeball at it, watching it with some impatience as he waited for the Phanpy to be captured.
At last. Okay. Xerys breathed a slight sigh of relief as he noted there didn't appear to be any other Pokemon in the near vicinity just now, which hopefully meant he was going to be able to get on with what he'd meant to be doing that day at last. That, and he needed to get his babies to a Pokemon centre, really. So, returning the Pokeball containing Phanpy to his bag and returning the Excadrill as well, he smiled slightly and then went on his way.
