major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
Under normal circumstances, Athena was a pretty responsible woman. The soul of scientist burned too much for her to suppress her feelings of curiosity, wanting to know what was behind the dark that was so… intimidating, for a lack of better vocabulary. The rain was unprecedented, but expected, and it helped to keep those pesky rotting elders off her back.
The scientist might be bound by the laws of nature, but never by human law. Why do you think she joined Team Galactic?
Today’s expedition had led her to travel all the way to the Forbidden Catacombs of Celestic Town. It was one of her nuances where she wanted to defy legends, uncover secrets, and reveal truths. History provided very little excuse or reason why the Forbidden Catacombs were deserted so… and much less information as to why they were forbidden. The town elders refused to escort her down the cave due to the bad weather conditions, but no amount water was going tostop her.
So she went against their word.
It was fortunate that her equipment was suitable to handle such a task. Her attire consisted of boots, pants and a thick jacket. Her satchel was waterproof and locked tight, with her Pokeballs inside.
So while the storm raged outside, Athena turned her lamp on and started down the ruins.
Considering the atmospheric conditions, it wasn’t strange that temperature in the catacombs were less than ideal. With every breath, Athena saw a small cloud of mist come and go. There had been a few times where she almost lost her footing, and even dropped the lamp once in awhile.
But definitely not scared.
There were some dangerous factors to consider here, and lack of lighting was number one. So she had to take care not to break the lamp. The second most important factor was her status. She was definitely not allowed to sprain her ankle or cause any unnecessary damage to her lower half, if possible.
All of these things almost came to play when she nearly tripped on a rather soft and round object. Athena steadied herself, raising one foot to prevent further slipping and used her free hand to cling to the wall. Once she knew danger of falling had passed, the scientist searched for the source of her imminent death.
“S-Solosis!!”
A green little ball was shivering just in front of her, a bruise on it’s head/body where Athena had placed her foot. While others might instantly fall in love with such a sight and welcome the pitiable creature, Athena only raised an eyebrow as it stared it down with curiosity.
“That was dangerous you know?!”
The Solosis jumped... or bounced. Athena reached out and grabbed it with a hand, raising it closer to the lam. It tried to squirm away, but Athena’s grip was firm. She could feel it shivering with fear.“I’ve always wondered how to differentiate your species’ gender...”
“S-Solosis?”
A thunderous noise rocketed the entire catacombs, causing some dust to fall from the ceiling. In an instant, the Solosis had darted from her hand to her face.
“Hmmph.” Athena was not amused, but remained calm, and ripped it off from clinging any further. “ So you’re scared of a little lightning, huh?” The Solosis was almost in tears, but managed to nod. Athena thought carefully. This Solosis was practically begging to be brought out of here. It’s eyes were doing all the talking.
“Fine…” she said in frustration and allowed it to touch the Pokeball, safely securing it from any danger.
“Maybe that was too nice…” She stood up and pressed on. "Gotta keep that image Athena. Thankfully no one saw that..."
Athena was starting to think the forbidden catacombs were holding back against her.
She’d been walking for countless of hours, turned so many corners and slid down far too many slopes that the scientist had actually lost track of time, only for a moment though. She time-checked every 2 hours, and since her last check, she’d been walking for at least 6, and considering the time of the day she started her expedition, it was probably dusk.
But with the setting sun, the temperature also begun to drop rapidly and while most people would rest, and maybe panic, Athena was simply amused. The deeper you went into caves, it was normal for the temperature to suddenly drop. But this was amazing. The temperatures were far below the norm.
The scientist felt this despite the insulated clothing, the cold seeping under her skin, but yet another phenomenon surprised her.
Since when did caverns smoke?
This could only mean that she wasn’t alone, and confirmed so as a bright light, akin to her lantern approached fast from the front. “Hmmm… who else could be as reckless as I am to be wandering this foresaken place at this time?”
“Torkoal!Torkoal!Torkoal!”
Like a steam locomotor, it happily hummed to itself while making it’s way through the catacombs. Athena raised an eyebrow but watched it as it strut by. As it did so, the scientist felt a wave of relief at the heat it’s shell produced though she could without the smoke, waving it away.
That Torkoal was hers.
“And where do you think you’re going…? She said with a threatening smile, It was a narrow path, so a small speedy Pokemon was probably the best choice. The Torkoal stopped and looked back at Athena.
“Ampere, it’s recruitment time.” She released her Rotom, who was more than excited to leave its confines. “Charge and Discharge, if you please.”
“Ro! Rotom!”
It absorbed light particles from the air and let out a powerful jolt of electricity. The Torkoal was struck by jolts of electricity from all side. How dare these duo interrupt his day! It let out a powerful stream of smoke, which was suddenly replaced by fire, and curled to perform a flame wheel. It struck Rotom, who was thrown backwards, but apart from sustaining damage, it was perfectly fine.
“One more time. That should be enough…” Athena got her Pokeball at the ready, watching Ampere gather light from the air, and then release it in a fury of sparks. The attack was on target, the Torkoal finally gave in.
“Nice work.”
Athena threw the Pokeball and caught Torkoal successfully.
Now that she had her own personal heater, things would probably go a little smoothly. But a little voice told her it was probably time to leave the cave. It was said that most people would get lost in here, and a turn for the worse, people would die or go missing, never to be found ever again. The evil spirits of the catacomb
Of course, Athena did not indulge such tales, but there was logic to these rumours.
The scientist had brought with her a device where she could record her steps and draw a digital map based on magnetic fields, and luckily for her, the magnetic fields were strong in this place. The device had been marking the way since the beginning, so all she had to do was retrace way back.
Her lamp was also running out of fuel, and surprisingly, she did not have any spares. Finding out why the catacombs were so forbidden would have to wait.
As she turned back, however, a small rodent stood in her way.
It was a Nidoran, and by the coloring, it was a male. Not so valuable as research material but she could use their poison for something else. But Athena had to raise an eyebrow the way it was poised for attack.
Usually, she had to do something before getting this much attention. She shrugged and released one of it’s newer captures, She released Solosis from it’s confines.
“Now, Solosis… wait, we can’t keep calling you that. Too generic.” She quickly rummaged through her rather rich vocabulary inside her brain. "Ah! I know… Eukaryot! That’s what I’ll call you.”
The Solosis wasn’t paying attention, and had returned to being a shaky scared little cell. Athena sighed. Did the little tyke not like the Forbidden Catacombs?
“Hey…” Athena strode and picked up the psychic-type, as if she was picking up trash and brought it close to her face, a glare surprising it. “ You better keep your wits about you or I’ll leave you here to rot…”
The Solosis, petrified more than ever, shook it’s entire body in response.
“Good. We have an understanding.” Athena dropped the pokemon to the ground and pointed at the Nidoran, who was glaring at Athena. “ End this with Psywave. One shot.”
The Nidoran charged with full intent and lept to use double kick on Solosis. The psychic pokemon wasn’t that keen on hurting anyone, but it feared being alone more than anything. So it released a magenta colored wave that traveled and hit the Nidoran at point blank.
Athena smiled in satisfaction, throwing her last Pokeball to capture it and recalled Eukaryot back to his pokeball.
