major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
Well, here he is, Snowpoint, his frozen hell. Truth be told he hates the cold with all of his hate, he'd rather be sitting pretty by the sea and soaking up the sunshine; but one thing or another led him here.
Aw well, might as well do what he can while he’s here, he’d build a snowman near the Pokémon center, his hands betting frozen to the bone in the process. Probably not the best idea, especially for the outcome, considering how tiny it was, I was barely at knee height. It was something at least, emphasis on was, considering his Eevee knocked it over. Shame really.
After going to the nearest shop and buying the cheapest jacket fit for the environment he could along with some gloves, Fawkes decided to walk about town for a bit, putting the Eevee within the chest area of the jacket, it’s head poking out of the arch the zipper made.
He walked about looking for something interesting to stick his frostbitten nose in.
You had to wonder what it was Xerys was doing up here in Snowpoint. It was utterly freezing and there was snow absolutely everywhere and he'd never dealt too well with snow. Truth be told, he didn't really like the majority of places outside of Veilstone, being the kind of guy who preferred home to anywhere else. Paris certainly wouldn't have liked it, but he'd been safely tucked away inside a Pokeball for the occasion - Ponytas were not well adapted to this sort of environment, that was for certain.
He'd dressed up for the new environment in which he found himself, in a thick black jacket to insulate against the snow and ice and a scarf wrapped around his neck. It was uncomfortable, really, but he didn't really have any choice in what else to wear at the moment unless he was planning to completely freeze to death or something similar. Xerys wasn't an idiot, though, and if he actually wanted to achieve anything - whatever that anything might be - he was going to have to be generally ready.
Right now, though, he wasn't that busy and had more taken to just wandering about, slightly aimlessly. There had to be something to do around here. Some purpose for being stuck out here in this cold.
After walking for a bit, he comes across a man that looked almost as pale as the snow. Fawkes thought this was interesting as he approached the man looking him over, circling him a bit looking at the features on his face.
“Hm… ‘re you from around here?” he looked curious. “You look like the snow completely covered you. Is your hair naturally like that or did ya die it?” He points up to his ‘do, “I dye mine from time ta time, mainly to stand out, yanno? But you look like you wanna stick to the background. That black jacket is the only thing keepin you from being unnoticed.” He said with a smile as snow slowly began to fall on his face.
Stopping for a bit he leans back blushing slightly, “Aw geez, It’s kinda rude’ve me ta be talkin’ about your pignemt and all. I need’ta think before I speak sometimes.” He clears his throat and rubs his hands together blowing into them. He extends a slightly warmer hand, “Let’s start over, right this time. The name’s Fawkes, and ironically enough, the last name’s Winter.” He smiles softly, an Eevee onlooking in the V of the jacket, “Oh, and this’s Gossamer.” he says talking about the Eevee.
The wandering about plan had almost proved to be entirely useless before someone had suddenly approached him to talk. Xerys hadn't entirely expected conversation out here, especially not from a stranger - where he was from it felt as though everyone was far colder than this fellow (pun unintended) - but he supposed he could accept it if it was going to give him something to do. Besides, he didn't appear to have any sort of ulterior motive outside of making conversation, so Xerys couldn't really argue with it.
"My hair is blonde, naturally, yes, although perhaps not as blonde as this," he replied, quietly agreeing that it was a little confusing how close to the colour of the snow it was. He really should have thought about that before coming here. At least it provided him with some degree of stealthiness if at any point he actually needed it. "But I am not from around here, no." The guy seemed friendly and bright, yes, but there was something about that which nearly unnerved Xerys, making him unsure as to whether or not that made him fully trustworthy. In his experience, people who asked too many questions weren't, and he felt it was best holding off the full life story until later, when he'd gotten a better picture of this guy.
Smiling slightly at this apology, Xerys shrugged it away, not too bothered by the commentary on his hair. He liked when people noticed things about him like that. It gave him a sense of confidence, and maybe boosted a little sense of vanity that he still had inside him somewhere or other. "Xerys Quinn," he replied, politely taking his hand to shake. Honestly, he really should have invested in some gloves up here. Once the obligatory handshake was over, Xerys returned his hands to the pockets of his jacket and nodded at the Eevee in greeting. He would have introduced Paris, but bringing him out in this weather really didn't seem a good idea. Instead, he opted for a general subject change.
"So, what brings you out here to the freezing cold?"

Fawkes would nod seeing as he didn’t offend the man. He would respond to the question with, Oh, me? I’m just sorta making my way around the region, no real goal in mind, just doin it cuz I feel like it. What about you? Got an business here or are you like me, travelin’’ for the hell’of it?” He shifted a bit, “This ain’t really the type of place you would go to for fun, huh? I mean, it’s constantly freezing and there doesn’t seem to be any sights to be seens other than the temple and the lake.” He pauses in thought, “OH, ‘re you a Trainer? Here to fight the gym and all that noise? That’d make a lot of sense if that’s what it is.”
Fawkes would bundle up in his jacket putting his hands in his pockets, suddenly feeling the gloves he had left in there. As he remembered he had them, he slipped them on, and put the newly gloved hands into his jacket’s pockets waiting for a response.
That was...an interesting reason, Xerys supposed. He would have said something about not getting why anyone would want to venture up here into the cold for no other reason other than 'they felt like it' but he wasn't really one to talk. Did he even have an objective here? He supposed he'd sort of been scouting things, but what for? Really, it served no purpose, and he probably wasn't going to retain any information about this particular location outside of 'freaking freezing, avoid forever', so he might as well have gone home at this point. Nonetheless, here he was, wandering about, for pretty much the same reason as Fawkes. He felt like it. That was one for the books.
"Not a trainer, no," he replied somewhat hurriedly, eager to get that idea out of his companion's head. Weren't most trainers just little kids, or was that just the way it seemed to Xerys now that he was older and more 'mature'? Besides, they weren't really on his side, if you wanted to think about it like that, and he was sure that there was some rule about trainers and Team Galactic that meant things wouldn't have ended well for him if he had been. "Maybe I will come back to fight the gym someday, but I'm not entirely prepared for that just yet. I'd need to hit the other ones first, you know?" There was an order to the whole thing, wasn't there? Xerys had never really known about these things. From what he was discovering lately, he felt as though he knew very little about things other people seemed to know a lot about. He supposed that was what came of growing up in general isolation - partially of your own free will. "Are you planning on challenging the gym?"

He listened seemingly intensely and nodded as he talking about fighting gyms. He would respond with "Of Course." quickly after he spoke.
After he asked his last question he would respond with, 'Eventually, yea, so far I've only fought about three of 'em. I don't have enough badges to fight this one yet, but when I do, I'll have to find a better way of coming up here, it feels like I'm gonna die each time I make the trek, yanno? The wind is rough, the air is freezing and it's uphill at that. It's a frozen hell." He pauses patting his pokeball clip, "It's a good thing I have a pokemon suited for the environment else I wouldn't be toa-," he stopped himself thinking for a moment, "a Popsicle? What would be the opposite of toast in this situation? Whatever that is, that's what I'd be.
He shook his head, "Oh, I'm a bit interested in knowing how you got here, did you make them climb yourself or did you have some sort of transportation? My Mamoswine got me here, I'd bring her out so you could meet her but I'm afraid that she'd be a bit too big for this city." He chuckled, trying to keep up conversation for a bit, learning what he can from the man.
Xerys nodded, thinking it was indeed pretty lucky that he had a Pokemon that was so well suited to the current weather. He, on the other hand, really wasn't so lucky, considering he'd brought his Ponyta, and he was in no way set to function easily here. His other Pokemon weren't entirely great in this sort of weather either, which was just a little inconvenient, but at least they didn't have to be out and about right now. At least they could remain happy and warm and free from the cold how they were.
"You're lucky then," he answered with a smile, feeling oddly amicable for whatever reason. Fawkes had proved to be a friendly guy so far, and he saw no reason to make general small talk. "My Pokemon are terrible for this place. My Ponyta would utterly hate it." Xerys couldn't imagine Paris trying to handle this sort of place. "Popsicle, yes. That's what I'd use."
The journey up here had been a nightmare. Xerys really wasn't sure how he'd actually managed to make it, considering he was in no way suited to the cold or just the general idea of sports. And this definitely counted as a sport. "Had to make the journey myself. Tedious, obviously, but worth it, I suppose. I tend to make my own way to most places. Bit of a lone ranger, I suppose you could say." That was just the way he'd always done things, he supposed.

Fawkes nodded, “Yea, I travel alone a lot, endin’ up wherever and not knowing where I’m going. It just sorta happens… a lot. But luckily, I’ve made a few acquaintances along the way.” He smiled, “Well, I bumped into a few people here and there. Haven’t had the pleasure of bumpin’ into em again, but still, I know if I did, we’d meet as friends.” He huddled up in his jacket a bit.
“But,” he added, “I’m never really alone, I got a team of pokemon that’re always there, they keep me from dyin’ of boredom or otherwise, yanno?” He looked down at the Eevee, petting it’s head with his chin goofily. “And because of what I do, I roam around constantly. Oh, that reminds me, what d’you do for a livin’?” He would ask keeping his hands in his pockets out of the cold.
Xerys could pretty much relate to that answer. He spent a large proportion of his spare time just milling about and finding himself in places he would never have really expected to be in, Snowpoint being a prime example of that right now. He had no idea what he was actually doing here. "I'm exactly the same way. I always start with a plan of sorts - I like having a plan when I travel around - but it never ends up the way I wanted it too, and I end up in the most random places." He hadn't really experienced the part where he ended up becoming friends with someone everywhere he went though. Xerys tended to be a bit of a loner at the best of times, and friendship just didn't occur to him half the time. "I take it from that you're a pretty social person, huh?" At least he could relate to the whole point about Pokemon, though. Xerys loved his guys, and they'd helped him get out of a few scraps pretty much unharmed in the past.
Why did this guy ask so many questions? Xerys supposed it didn't really do any harm at all because it wasn't like he was really going to tell the guy his proper and actual job. He wasn't really supposed to do that, and he liked to follow the rules of what he was and wasn't supposed to do. Rules gave things a proper structure, and he had always been one to enjoy things having an actual shape to them as opposed to being simple abstract concepts. Ironic, really, because the answer he tended to give when people asked about his job was sort of an abstract kind of thing. Open to general interpretation, he supposed. "Nothing particularly exciting. I suppose you could currently refer to me as a bit of a wanderer - that's what I've mostly been doing these past few days, anyway." It wasn't the most exciting response, but it managed to give away nothing that couldn't be given away, so it pretty much achieved its main goal. "I'm in between specifics at the moment."

Fawkes would nod with a slight smile, “Yea, I guess you could call me that.” He would shiver a bit in the cold. “I mean, I just talk to people that’ll talk to me at least.” He answered.
As he was speaking, Fawkes would think that he should probably back off with the questioning for a bit, don’t want to push him away like the first guy he met. He would nod, “I’m sorta in the business of helping people, I haven’t exactly had to help that many people but I’ve been doin’ my best. I mean, I like to help people, and if I can help it I’ll butt my head in and try to insert myself into a problem. Just to try to solve it I mean.” He would scratch the back of his head a bit, “Some people might find it annoying but hey, it’s almost second nature to me.” He looked down at the Eevee, “Hey, I got this little one from it after all. If I didn’t butt my head in this whole thing that went down at the lake then I wouldn’t have Gossamer.” He would snuggle the pokemon slightly.
After shivering once more and check his phone quickly, flipping it open , checking the time, and closing it. “Alright, I think I’ve wasted enough of your time. It was nice talking to you while I could but I gotta go and I’ve sure you do too.” He would give a warm smile, “D’you have a phone? If you do, d’ya mind givin’ me your number?”
"I would probably call you that, yes," Xerys repeated, returning the smile ever so slightly. He wasn't really the smiling type, but he knew when it was best to make an effort to do so. It might have been a sort of defence mechanisms, or maybe it was just a way of blending it, but he knew when it was best to smile and when it was best not to. "Sounds like an excellent piece of reasoning. If you talk, they're more likely to talk to you in return."
Xerys nodded his agreement, even though he couldn't really properly agree with this idea. Whilst Fawkes's job may have involved him helping people, his own was pretty much the exact opposite of that. Not that he really minded it too much, considering he'd chosen what he was doing with his own life himself, and he kind of did properly enjoy it. Plus, he had to suppose he'd gotten some of his own Pokemon from that as well. "I prefer to work things out myself, without the aid of others. I suppose, the way I live my life, that's much more beneficial than any other method I could attempt." He didn't ened people interfering with his work life or his private life, after all. It just seemed relatively inconvenient. "But, even if I prefer to work things out alone, I wouldn't say I'd find it annoying if someone especially wanted to help me." Most likely he would either try to politely get rid of them or grin and bear it if that was fully impossible.
"Uh, yeah, I have a phone." He frowned a moment or two, trying to fully recall the number, and then recited it to Fawkes. He didn't really see a problem with sharing his number with the boy, considering there wasn't much chance he could do anything remotely negative with it. Honestly, Xerys had to admit he trusted him enough at this point, if solely based on their past few minutes of conversation.

After keying in the numbers on the oldish phone, Fawkes would flip it closed and look up at the man with a soft smile.
“It was nice talking to you. Hope we cross eachothers paths again.” He would slip the phone into his pocket and shiver a bit, zipping the jacket a bit more, pushing the Eevee into to it, away from the cold. “I’ve gotta make the trek down, but I’ll keep in touch with you every so often. Thanks for keepin a conversation with me.” his smile would widen slightly as he talked and then return back to the relaxed state it was in before.
He would extend a gloved hand out towards the man once more, “It’s been nice talkin’ to you.” The red haired man would shiver slightly again and he sniffed his nose, it now turning a red that shone through the darkness of his skin.
Xerys nodded his agreement to this sentiment, ever so slightly distracted by this whole phone number situation. Being a bit of a loner as he was, he didn't often find himself giving his number out to people, but it didn't really hurt to have done so this time. Meeting people was fine, he supposed, making friends was important. It wasn't that he didn't want to meet people, after all, it was just that he always ended up not talking to them. This had been a welcome change.
"Yeah, nice to have met you too," he answered, grinning in return. And, honestly, Xerys kind of meant it. He sort of wanted to see Fawkes again, if just for the conversation. "I'm sure we'll meet again at some point. Life's funny that way." Always making you meet the people you were supposed to meet and always leading you the right way. Xerys had always been a firm believer in all that jazz.
Offering Fawkes a friendly salute, Xerys nodded once more, still smiling. He was getting good at this smiling thing by now. "Good to talk to you too. Good luck with your journey back. I mean, I've gotta take the hike soon too so, yeah. I guess I'll see you again some day." He gave him a bright look and then took a couple of steps back, starting to look around a moment, trying to figure out where he'd originally meant to be going.
