major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
Athena never took legends seriously. Truth was always lost in them. It was something she could easily dismiss in her line of work. By definition, Athena could never rely on something so uncertain. And yet, there were far more people who acknowledged these fictitious reports than supported evidence from meticulous studies.
So you might be wondering what was someone with such a strict distaste for children stories doing in a place where the the legends took place.
Well, apart from being a member of the notorious Team Galactic, Athena needed to find new test subjects. Ampere was normal, apart from it's hobby of shocking people as a sign of affection, but Mercury was rather unresponsive to her tests. For a psychic-type, Mercury proved to be rather dull. It was time she found new material.
The lake was a particular place to visit to catch new Pokemon, but if by any chance, she could encounter a Legendary Pokemon, Athena could skip ranks. While she did not fully support her organization's machinations, being a recruit only granted her little to no access to some of the more important, delicious files.
It was said that Mesprit, had made the bottom of the lake it's resting place but having no water Pokemon was vexing, so the galactic recruit stayed close to the lake shores just in case. Needless to say, Athena wasn't expecting for such a baseless being to just pop out of nowhere.
Athena stopped in her tracks as she heard a buzzing sound. It was faint, but audible, coming from the direction of the thick grass. So maybe capturing a Legendary Pokemon was a longshot, that is, if they even existed. This was the reason why she never put her faith on stories. That was not the scientific way of things.
The scientist closely followed the buzz until she reached a small clearing where she saw what would become her next subject. It was a Combee, minding it's own business while suckling on a pot of honey. Athena peered through the parted, tall grass. According to recent discovery, the Tiny Bee Pokémon was a symbiotic creature, composed of three parts. Two fliers on either side and the main body, which acted as brain to coordinate the other two. What was even more fascinating was it's ability to fly with it's proportionate. It was neither aerodynamic, nor did it possess psychic abilities to levitate.
This Combee needed to know it would become a subject for a greater purpose, and Athena would be the one to let it know that. It's wings... I need to touch it's wings Athena came closer and closer, as quiet as she could be through grass. Thankfully, the pot of honey made things easier. Athena quickly grabbed it's wings.
"~Com?" The hexagonal pokemon yelped."Combeee!!"
"Please bear with me! This.. is for the greater good of humanity"
Athena struggled to keep it still long enough to examine it. The combee became still for a minute and used Bug Buzz on her. "O-owww!! That hurts.."
With the Combee free, it flew and swerved to face it's attacker. No one messed with the future queen of the hive! Athena staggered, her balance off due to the attack. "Ngh! Please understand... resistance is futile!" The Galactic released Rotom from it's Pokeball. "Oh? So you're a female Combee..." This made Athena even more excited. "Perfect!"
"~Rotoooom!"
The Rotom zoomed here, there and back from excitement. Athena always thought of Ampere akin to an exposed nerve ending.
"Ampere! Discharge." Athena ordered, pointing at the bee pokemon.
The Rotom was always happy to let everyone know just how ecstatic it was. It quickly released a wave of gold lightning from it's body. Some of the tendrils managed to hit the Combee.
Athena smiled, satisfied with the results. Once the attack receded, the Combee was downed and twitching on the ground from paralysis.
The scientist walked up to it and let a Pokeball fall from her hand, capturing the Combee.
With a new acquired test subject, Athena placed the pokeball to her face and rubbed it very, very amicably. The Combee would eventually succumb to her will. Everyone else did. She also needed a name for it, but decided such matters could be resolved later. The hexagonal bee pokmeon would have to prove her worth to the scientist first.
Now that her goal had been made, Athena carefully exited the tall grass and begun walking across the lake shore once more. Not that she was still vying for the Legendary Pokemon. The scientist would not succumb and join the many fools who believed baseless information. But there was a caveat to her sentiments. What if she verified the existence of said being? Then it would no longer be baseless information.
Then she felt her chest was quite... heavy. Athena blinked a few times and found a blue circular object saddled in between her chest. She stared curiously. What was it? She felt it move a little bit, making an eyebrow rise in question. It moved, she thought. It was colored blue and it appeared to have bumps on the side. Was it a Pokemon?
Her questions would be confirmed when she felt it's head "rise" up.
"~Palpi-"
Athena immediately grabbed it by the head and smashed it on the soft ground. The palpitoad, with it's head buried underground, was still smiling from having come in contact with a female, never mind the differing species.
"Hmph."
It was still waving it's tail back and forth, a sign of happiness. This irritated Athena. She'd have to discipline this insolent test subject properly. "You shall get what you want then..." Athena smashed the pokeball on the Palpitoad's behind. The Pokeball hit the target square, before bouncing up. Palpitoad scream was muffled, causing a small tremor around them before it was captured.
Athena shivered as she picked up the pokeball containing the Palpitoad, and glared at it, turning around for inspection. Would it be too cruel a fate if she threw it at the bottom of the lake? It wouldn’t so bad since she’d be returning it to it’s natural habitat, where it belonged. The only difference was that the Palpitoad would die a painful agonizing death through starvation. It was tempting experiment, she had to admit.
For now though, the scientist placed the Pokeball inside her jacket. She’d deal with him later.
It wasn’t a moment too soon that another willing test subject would disturb her momentary state of solidarity. The Pokemon was fast, using Quick Attack to make itself unseen. True enough, Athena couldn’t see it clearly but nobody should ever underestimate her powers of observation.
“So it’s a Taillow, huh?” she said while looking up, arms crossed. It kept flying back and forth, from tree to tree. Was it trying to impress her? “I’m sorry, but I have no interest in you whatsoever…”
“Taillowww!!”
The Taillow must have understood this, because she would not let another trainer pass her by! She wanted a home and she would get it one way or another. The bird pokemon flew up and then made a nosedive for Peck that would knock out the ego out of this human. Athena just dodged in time by sidestepping. This Taillow was fast, she thought. But that was all there was to it.
Athena saw no imperfection or special ability that would make this Taillow a worthy specimen.
But what if…?
She nodded with a finger on her chin. The scientist often did that when thinking. And it was a good thought. She took out a Pokeball and let out Rotom from it’s confine. As always, it was thrilled to breath fresh air. Not that Rotom needed that. Did Ghost pokemon even need to breath?
She shelved the idea. It was good future experiment.
“Rotom! Use Charge!”
The Rotom glowed briefly, rising up as it shined brighter. Sparks of electricity filled it’s body. It was a move that made the next electronic attack stronger, while raising a Pokemon’s special defense. The Taillow swerved up and was overjoyed to see an opponent. Finally! A trainer took her seriously.
The Taillow dived down with open wings to perform a Wing Attack.
Athena smiled. “Like moth to a flame… Discharge!” As with the Combee previously, tendrils of gold lightning travelled towards the flying Pokemon. They were a little thick though, pumped up with Charge. The Taillow dodged some of the lightning, but couldn’t dodge them all.
The closer she got, the harder it was to dodge them, and finally, it was covered in gold energy from electrocution. While falling, Athena threw a Pokeball to catch it, and caught the Pokeball itself.
The scientist was more than satisfied, and so it was time to move on.
