Johnny finds himself on, what he considers, the first major step of his career as a hero, and on the receiving end of a speech that many a trainer before him has likely heard. He chuckles and delivers an amused ”Fabulous.” in response to Roark’s spiel. ”I’m ready when you are.” adds Johnny, and with that, Roark sends out a geodude. Johnny can’t stop grinning, the anticipation of battle filling him with a giddy thrill before it even starts. ”Let’s rock, baby!” he shouts, tossing a pokeball high into the air, releasing his budew. STEALTH ROCK is what Geodude uses. A problem for later, but for now MEGA DRAIN is what Johnny commands Budew to use. Not so much still on its feet so much as still levitating ever so slightly, the geodude survives attack. A ROCK THROW is sent Budew’s way, and it’s pelted by pebbles, but its type advantage allows it to easily brush off the assault. ABSORB is the move Johnny tells it to use next, and this time, the life is completely sucked out Geodude’s being. Not wasting a second, Roark recalls his downed pokemon, and sends out an Onix to take its place. In preparation, Johnny tells Budew to buff itself by using GROWTH. A purposely obnoxious sound escapes the Onix, however, as Roark commands it to use SCREECH. Immediately after that, more natural projectiles are headed Budew’s way as Onix uses the move ROCK THROW. Another pelting, but the Budew still barely stands. MEGA DRAIN once more, this time on Onix, of course, and the rock snake is totally exhausted. The decision to use GROWTH just moments earlier proves itself a good one. While Johnny could continue using Budew, he recalls the pokemon stating ”Fabulous, Jaimie, you’ve done enough for now.” He decides to send out his riolu, McCloud, for the last round. The effect of STEALTH ROCK, used earlier, pains Riolu slightly, but the humanoid pokemon is still ready to fight. Cranidos is Roark’s last pokemon, while Johnny still has half a team left. A win seems as clear as day to him. Roark commands Cranidos to use LEER, and in return, Johnny commands Riolu to use SCREECH, leveling the metaphorical playing field. Roark’s Cranidos, being told to use HEADBUTT, charges at Riolu with reckless abandon. Johnny shouts, telling his Riolu to dodge the attack and use REVERSAL. Riolu does as much, and sidesteps Cranidos before tripping it, causing it to fall on it’s face. Sensing the end, FORCE PALM is what Johnny tells Riolu to end the fight. Cranidos faints, and Roark sighs as he recalls his fainted pokemon. Johnny and McCloud celebrate their victory with a high-five, and the former looks to Roark expectantly, the smile on his face powered by the anticipation of receiving a badge. |
