major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
Ophelia had been training hard for the past few days. Both she and her pokemon were exhausted and absolutely ready for a decent night's sleep. The woman had to admit, she had been training everyone hard. Ever since her mystery promotion, the woman had been going hard. Without any direction as to the why of the promotion, she could only conclude that her recent activity with training had been the cause. Not one to disappoint, she had continued in the same fashion.
Which brought her to Route 202. Earlier in the day she had trekked out past Sandgem Town and had trained her pokemon in the grassy fields that ran past the town. Although she had every intention to return home to Jubilife City, she simply had lost the energy and willpower to do so as the sun began to make it's slow descent from the sky.
Earlier in the day, before she had headed out, the woman had the foresight to grab her sleeping roll and toss it into her pack along with a few small provisions. Though she wasn't fond of camping, she was even less fond of being caught outside without the proper equipment.
After a bit of wandering, she had found herself a large tree on a relatively flat area. Unrolling her sleeping bag underneath the tree, the woman had set her three pokemon to gathering wood for a small fire. As they did so, she cleared a small area for a campfire. If she was forced to spend her night outside, she sure as hell wanted to have a warm meal.
Lighting the fire took some time. Her lighter wasn't exactly meant to catch kindling and would flicker out after a few moments. Her cursing could be heard echoing on across the flat plain. When it finally lit, the woman let out a relived sigh.
She sat down by her small campfire, lazily pulling her pack to her and fishing out the three cans of food she had brought. Using her knife she cut open the tops of the three and pushed them towards the side of the fire, hoping she would manage to warm to the food without setting it on fire.
Her pokemon had all settled around the campfire as well. Sableye sat next to his trainer, mocking every movement silently, his large ghostly grin never leaving his face. Meowth had taken up post across from her trainer, sprawled out and allowing the fire to warm her tan fur. Cubchoo had already made claim on Ophelia's sleeping bag, burying herself under the soft folds.
Ophelia sighed contently, the sun now sliding lower and lower into the sky. She was ready for bed, that much was sure.

It was still very surreal, being on his own for this long. It had been about a week now, and while he was enjoying it he couldn't help but feel like he was missing something. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but alas, he didn't want to think on it for too much longer. He needed to get through the route before the sun completely set and while his pokemon rested in their pokeballs from the training they had gone through, Artemis was by himself. "Still...it's beautiful out tonight. It's hard to believe that I never spent more time out here." It really wasn't, though. Artemis was more prissy than he would like to admit but even more than that, he was hard headed. Egotistical and he refused to be told no. That was his parents fault, of course. Never letting him fail...or paying someone off so he hadn't. He wasn't sure...but he didn't want or need their help.
Though his thoughts kept him occupied on his own, he smelled the tiny embers burning through wood some ways off. He realized that he wasn't going to make it, and this would be a good chance for him to perhaps meet someone else out on their journey and make a friend. So he sped up his movement. Still, all of his life couldn't have prepared him for the rush he was about to feel. This was what he had been missing. A wide, almost serpent like grin had spread across his features. It was hard to make out all of her features, but in his mind it was clear as day. Long black hair, large inviting eyes. How could he have possibly thought about making it back to town when there was such a beautiful specimen out here...if he had, his mother would be ashamed. "Don't wanna disappoint mother now...would I?"
He noticed that there were three pokemon out with her. All in different positions and each watching for anything that would harm their trainer, of course. They couldn't be that bad, right? Without giving much thought to his current predicament, or any ramifications without preparing, he started to stroll toward her. His grin had fallen to a small, but sincere smile and as he got closer, he raised one hand. "Hello. My names Artemis. He started, lowering his hand as he got within ten feet of the woman and her pokemon. "I'm traveling, and was hoping I could stay with you until morning. You never know what could be lurking out there." He suggested, taking another step forward, ever weary of the pokemon laying in wait around their trainer. Waiting for the woman's reply...She was something else entirely up close. It felt as if her piercing green eyes could see right into his soul. Still, he didn't waver, his smile etched firmly onto his face.

i'm here to tell ya honey, that i'm bad to the bone.
@Artemis Thedas Finally back from vacation. Kinda just re-read my intro post and realized I used the word "hard" like fifteen times. I promise this one will be better. >3> Also, no worries on matching lenght. I haven't written anything in like ... two weeks and my brain sorta just went wild.
Ophelia briefly drifted between a world of sleep and wakefullness as she watched the small fire. Her green eyes would close occasionally, nodding off only to flutter open moments later. The woman shook her head, black strands of hair getting forcefully rustled and sticking out at odd angles. From an outsider's perspective it was clear she was tired. Dark circles under her eyes only adding to the overall frazzled look.
Using a nearby twig she gently poked at the cans before her, turning them ever so slightly to help avoid uneven heating and the inevitable burning. She heard a rustling around her, something her sleepy mind would pass off as a curious pokemon if not for her Meowth now standing at alert. Her whole body now taught and postured, small beige ears alert as her eyes surveyed pass the campfire's light.
A low mewling came from her throat just as the stranger stepped into their field of view. Ophelia immediately jumped, the stick she had been using to poke the cans now managing to knock one over. The contents spilled into the heart of the fire, hissing and spitting as they burned. "Fuck." The woman said under her breathe, ignoring her Sableye's laughter. "That was your food too, you idiot." She said angrily, realizing that striking the ghost type would lead to absolutely nothing as he phased into an untouchable state. She had been there before.
Now she turned her attention towards the man who had entered her campground. She regarded him coolly, weighing her words. Her first reaction was to invite the man to the fire, he was good looking. It had been awhile since she had any physical release, and god... She would sink her teeth into his tasty flesh.
But then the paranoia began to creep into the back of her mind. Not long ago she had been rather mysteriously released from jail, her rather weighty charges dropped without word. Despite her desperate attempt to find the Galactic Recruiter who had done so, she had not found anyone to give her answers to the burning question in her head; why?
The way the man held himself screamed confidence and arrogance, much like the few rangers she had met in her travels. Was he one of them? Why else would he find her, in the middle of a forest as night fell. There was only one logical reason; this ranger was here to turn her in. To her fatigue heavy mind, this was the only clear reasoning.
Sableye could sense his trainer's fear and rose, flanking his trainer as Meowth moved to her side, all three sets of eyes staring through the man. Again the woman weighed her reply, "Sorry ranger.." She hissed, her words laced with undo venom, "There's no room for you. Feel free to make your leave whenever."
Meowth nodded her head in agreement, flashing a grin that showed entirely too much teeth. Ophelia returned to the fire, gingerly using the stick to remove the now empty can from the fire and tossing it to the side. Hopefully the man would get the hint.

Would it have been too ego boosting for Artemis to read into the way she glanced his way. The subtle silence that had fallen over the campfire she had carefully weaved together. Artemis wouldn't have been himself if he hadn't but he was normally good at these sorts of things. Reading a woman, and reacting carefully to her words and actions. Picking up on the environment, and then attacking. Figuratively of course. He knew from the way she scanned over him, she was at the very least admiring what she saw. All of them did.
And yet, like any other day there was always one or two that wanted to play hard to get; the ones like that were always the best. This one in particular was feisty and Artemis could tell that given the right motivation, she could be one that showed Artemis a better time than any girl back in Hearthome. Besides, Artemis loved a challenge. Though something stuck out to him; She had called him a ranger. He arched a brow and leaned down so he was eye level with the woman in front of him.
"Please, Just call me Art." He said before reaching out a hand toward the fire. "I couldn't possibly leave now, I made you spill one of your cans. I have food of my own, and I feel like I should pay you back in some way," He said the last two words coolly, then grinning while tilting his head as he scanned the two pokemon that had sat on either side of their trainer.
He needed to weigh his next action as carefully as the words he carefully plucked from his mind. He was never one to quit, and he had no intention of quitting; Even still, he took but a moment and locked their eyes together. He needed to ignore her pokemon. He needed to make sure that, even if she knew her pokemon were there, that she felt like they were alone and even as his eyes drifted from hers different parts of her figure, they always found their way back to their initial position. "How about it?" He said, reaching his arm behind him and into the top most portion of his bag, pulling out a can of food. "Let me pay you back?" He said, holding the can toward the woman with a larger than life smile heading her way.

@Artemis Thedas Not as wordy as the last, I'm a wee tired. "orz
Warning bells began to ring in her head as the man stepped forward, hand out stretched. The more he stood there with his devilish grin and good looks, the more Ophelia was convinced her initial assessment was correct. This man was a ranger, and he was coming for her. Ophelia's eyes glanced past Artemis, looking into the darkness to see if anyone was with him. It appeared he had come alone, the stupid ranger.
Despite her paranoia, the woman couldn't help herself. She reached out, her fingers just inches from his before pulling away and flashing her own grin, "Well Art, you can pay me back by turning right the fuck around and leaving." Her smile gradually ebbed away as she finished what she was saying.
When it became apparent that no didn't mean no, Ophelia stood up. Her eyes warily watched as he reached into her bag. Instinctively her hand went to her waist where an old leather belt that held the pokeballs would normally sit, had she not removed in when she set up camp.
Her mind went over what she had in terms of weapons on her, noting that a knife and small stick wouldn't do much in terms of defense should he pull a gun or taser. When Art pulled the can from his bag, an audible sigh of relief escaped Ophelia's lips.
Still, his wicked grin spelled trouble. Ophelia was convinced he was just trying to disarm her. She took a few steps back, putting the fire between herself and the man. She looked at Meowth and Sableye, both who had stood up themselves and scooted towards their trainer. Cubchoo meanwhile was sound asleep, the sound of her snore rivaled the crackling of the fire.
"Leave now, or I'll make you leave, ranger..." She spit, her mind already going over fight or flight plans in a desperate attempt to rationalize the situation at hand.

Something felt...off. He wasn't quite sure what words would properly describe this feeling he had in his gut but nothing he was doing was working. There was a part of him that wanted to respect her wishes, because he wasn't going to get anywhere this way. And yet, despite that, he just kept going back to that itch. Something felt wrong and he needed to figure it out. Without thinking much on it, his grin fell off and simply returned too a softer, smaller smile.
"I'm not sure what I've done to offend you so quickly, but I'd like to start over. I never like to leave on bad terms." His eyes had fallen off to the side as he watched the pokemon gather around their trainer. They were quick to find their way, almost as if they had been trained to be on their guard. Most pokemon would do anything to protect their trainers but this was different. Although, everything seemed to come to a head when Artemis noticed the fire had been put between the two of them and then there was something else.
"Ranger?" He asked, his brow visibly arching. "That's the second time you've called me a ranger." He thought about it, went over everything that had transpired. Normally he'd play along with it but...no. She wasn't comfortable around Rangers and he wasn't sure what they had to do with this. If he were going to get anywhere, he was going to have to dispel this rumor that she seemingly constructed on his behalf.
"I'm not sure who you think I am," He started, kneeling slightly. "But I'm no ranger. If I were, and for whatever reason you dislike them so much. Why wouldn't I have at least come with my pokemon already out?" Logic and reasoning. Perhaps the woman was too tired but Artemis wasn't. He had spent much of his younger days out on the night life. "I'm just your attractive civilian." He joked before standing and once more out stretching his hand. Palm up, body open and one more big smile etched firmly on his features. "You can trust I'd have nothing to do with that group."
