major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
Back to square one-- as much as she had wanted to go straight into Route 211, mother was oh so insistent on Lena getting the start that most trainers of Sinnoh do-- in Twinleaf. Sure, it wasn't hours away, but the whole "no no, it's worth it for the experience!" bull shit her mom made her put up with was enough to put her in a grumpy mood. Toad didn't seem to mind much; the bulbasaur was just happy to be in the sun.
"Besides, the walk will be good for you!"
Whatever. Blowing a chunk of hair away from her face, the aspiring trainer is left to shoulder her bag and adjust the straps before heading out into the grass. Oh the goddamn trouble it took to get here. Avoiding "tall grass", being wary of strange men (and women, for that matter) as she crossed through hick country; honestly, leaving from Eterna would have been a dream. Regardless, her goodbyes had been said. Lena was half convinced that the whole reason her mom booted her to Twinleaf was so she'd have an excuse to visit; she would have to pass through Eterna again, eventually. Parents.
Being noon, it was no surprise to Lena that she wasn't alone. Kids played around the grass, some daring to even shuffle through; angry and scared parents called for them from the background, while some just went on with their sunny day. Not a cloud in sight; sunburn was inevitable. Shading her eyes with her hand, she steps through the grass, as uncomfortable as it is. Pokemon are great hiders, and she can barely make out Toad by the shape of his bulb, despite the fact that he doesn't stray from her heels. It's at her waist now-- away from the playing kids and camaraderie of families enjoying their weekend, Lena suddenly feels like she's in the lonely open ocean. Her stomach sinks, her skin pricks with the first signs of sweat; she's itchy.
On the line between expecting a 'jump-scare' and still being completely and utterly anxious, Lena's nervous smile twisted into a frown as the bag-bug pokemon stared her down, right ahead. It couldn't have just been a weird bush, nooo, the thing had to have mustard-yellow eyes and the stare of a killer. Looking ahead, it must have fallen from a nearby tree; that must have been the thud that got Toad all riled up. With a grimace, she contemplates her choices. It's not like the thing looks like it could hurt, or even follow her. Did those little orange legs even work?
"Let's go--" She's cut off by her growling parter; Toad is crouched down (as much as a bulbasaur can be, at least), bulb poised forward, little ears pinned back. She sighs. "Fine bud, leech seed". It's a half hearted command, but Toad is happy to oblige. The grass-type spawns three seeds from its bulb and launches them toward the burmy. the bug protected itself, but not fast enough- two levels may not be much, but it was enough for Toad to get the edge on the wild pokemon and get in a tackle and vine whip. Leech seed was enough to finish the bag bug off-- Lena picked up the fainted pokemon and placed it against the tree she assumed it fell from. While she didn't need that as a member of her team, she did appreciate the experience for Toad.
Nearing Lake Verity (a detour, admittedly), Lena realized the error she made in her directions. Honestly, without a decent map how is she ever supposed to navigate her way out of those goddamn area? The dense trees ahead make her nervous-- no way she can get through, not with one level 11 bulbasaur. She takes a breath, goes to turn on her heel, and is met with a marill. "Oh!" It startles her; she takes a step back, while Toad takes a step forward. Much more promising that the burmy before it, this wild pokemon holds something of value. After all, a water type would take care of any fire-types that take her bulbasaur out. Already alarmed, the water type used water sport, dousing the pair. It would have felt nice on a hot day like this, had it not come from the inside of a pokemon.
God knows if that's actually sterile. Sterile Merill? Probably not.
Toad is quick on his feet; one vine whip and the water-type is already hurting. Unfortunately for Toad, the water type gets out a water gun before Lena can act. A pokeball is thrown, and the aqua mouse is too weak to fight back. Lena waits, gathers her prize, and released her new partner, treating it with a potion. Might as well keep all pokemon healthy, just in case.
With a proud hup and a pat on the head for Toad, she makes haste back to her original path.
bulbasaur - level 11 - at 80% used vinewhip - critical! used a pokeball! marill has 23% health! used a potion! marill at full health!
Sandgem is in the distance now, but there's still a long walk ahead of her. Still, the silhouette of the city in the distance is enough to make her pick up the pace-- until a starly interjects. The flying type is in a foul mood, screeching at her from above, swooping to attack. Lena ducks, grimacing. Fucking birds. They know. They know her hate. Her first move is to recall Toad to safety-- she refused to let the bulbasaur be taken down by some disgusting feathery POS.
Her newly claimed Marill will have to do the trick. The starly hovers in front of them now, hardly waiting for Lena to gather her bearing as. She feels her heart rate rocket as the pokemon dives in with a quick attack against her water-type; Zuzu squeals as the two collide. "Bring its defenses down, tail whip!" she finally breathes, mind racing as she has to recall what moves this new pokemon could possibly have. Nobody prepared her on what the hell these new pokemon knew! Too panicked to reach for her pokedex, Lena was going off memory. Fortunately, the aqua mouse was quick to act, wiggling the plump end of its tail at the starly, distracting it enough that the angry cawing became deafening. "Tackle!" Everything knew tackle, right? The flying type gets another quick attack in; an unwelcome sight. Zuzu takes advantage of the close space, body slamming the bird against the ground. "Quick, water gun while it's down!"
She's finally fumbled her pokedex open; the styles in her teeth as she waits for the damn thing to load. Why the hell wouldn't there be reception on a beginner route? Zuzu is much more composed, as it lets loose a sharp stream of water from its mouth. For a moment, Lena thinks she's in the safe zone.
Wrong.
The starly shakes it off as if it was nothing-- honestly? Another quick attack brings Zuzu to near-defeat. "One more tackle!" Lena pipes, hand on a pokeball. The two come into contact once more, and Lena throws the pokeball the second Zuzu falls back. She quickly recalls her Marill, and breathes a sigh of relief as the click of the pokeball diffuses the situation.
"Fucking birds."
bulbasaur - level 11 - at 80% bulbasaur recalled!
marill - level 09 - 100% hit by quick attack! marill used tail whip x2! hit by quick attack! marill used tackle! marill used water gun! hit by quick attack! marill used tackle! marill is at 10%! used a pokeball! marill recalled! starly is at 5%!
Sandgem right at her toes now, all Lena has to face is that awful smell trailing from behind her. What the hell? Having treated her new starly with a potion (she hates the thing, but she eventually admitted how useful it was to her), the little bird now happily rests on her shoulder. This thing better not shit on me. She turns shoulders her bag off, thinking that her lunch had soured. Nope, nothing there. Grass shuffles to her right. Nose scrunched, she dares lean to see what the hell could be in there-- only to regret it immediately.
Stunky.
She had only heard horror stories. Knowing the source made the smell all too familiar; her mother had gotten sprayed years ago. With an "eeeeuch!" and a lunge backward, Lena's best attempt to propel herself away from the thing fails. Instead, the pokemon takes curiosity in her, like a tame puppy. Stink-ass tail wagging, the stunky approaches, obviously tame. Lena is too panicked to understand its kindness. "W-Wing attack, what are you waiting for?!" she sends Lancer away from her, the startled flying type jumping to aid. He's fast, thank god. The stunky cries out and releases a poison gas in response. Covered her nose with her sleeve and feeling her irritated eyes start to water, Lena barely has time to treat Lancer with a full heal before she starts coughing.
The starly takes up the rest of the battle from there. Another wing attack and the stunky faints; the air starts to clear. Catching her breath and recalled her pokemon, Lena throws a half hearted pokeball at the skunk. Wouldn't be a bad resource against any creeps along the way, after all.
One more. Really? All she wanted to do was get on with her life. Train her new team-- and this pink thing streaks toward her. More exhausted than anxious at this point, Lena releases her Marill, despite its low health. The pokemon seems strong enough to stand on two feet, and it doesn't complain, so why not? "Zuzu, just roll it out of the way, please." she sighs, almost tempted to sit and watch the battle. Despite the Spritzee's sweet attempts at defending itself, its lack of defensive move is its undoing. Zuzu has the thing down in almost no time, roll out's increasing power granting to the final blow to the pokemon. Lena throws a pokeball and takes the fairy type with her.
Some much needed rest and relaxtion will be needed once she reaches town.
