How did we get here?

Amity was born the second child to Wesley and Phyllis Knight, two years apart from her older brother Charlie. Living in a town where a Pokemon Professor studied meant she spent a lot of time around Pokemon, and this was reinforced by the fact that her father worked as one of Rowan’s aids. Though Wesley’s job meant that he spent a lot less time around his family, especially when he was to go out into the field. When he was at work Charlie and Amity would spend their time playing down at the beach, and when he was home all Wesley seemed to talk about was his work. Though Charlie and Amity both loved hearing about it, their mother didn’t, and over time Wesley’s workaholic nature began taking a toll on their marriage.[break][break]

Over time this only deteriorated further, until finally Phyllis had enough of Wesley, and Wesley felt the same way about her. However, both parents wanted the children and Charlie and Amity went through months of a nasty custody battle. During this time the children, ages 10 and 12 remained with their mother. Amity was more fond of her father however, and during this time she became more withdrawn, with increased irritability and a snappy temper. Charlie referred to her as a time bomb many times during this period. Finally, things cleared and legal settlements were made the family was split into two. Charlie remained with their mother while Amity returned to Sandgem Town to live with her father.[break][break]

Without Charlie around Amity felt more lonely around this time, but she did have the company of her father’s Bibarel, who was constantly attempting to keep her from doing stupid things like climbing trees or swimming with no supervision. Amity retained the quick temper she had developed during her parent’s separation and became a little more rough around the edges. Though still social, she covered old emotional wounds with humor and sarcasm, a quick wit to keep people from digging too deep into her head. She didn’t like people trying to pry deeper into her emotions then they needed to be, and her sarcastic nature was used to convince them that she felt okay.[break][break]

In time, she continued to retain these things but she found she was okay, and had come to terms with her parents’ divorce. Though she discovered a braver Amity coming out of what was a hard ordeal for a child, and a closer kinship with Pokemon following the absence of her brother (Though she saw him a few times since the divorce it was hard for her to want to visit her mother when her father still had to take her there, since there was a fight every time they were in the same vicinity.)[break][break]

And that kinship with Pokemon caused her to want to protect them, and when she was old enough Amity told her father that she wanted to become not just a trainer, but a Pokemon Ranger. Though Wesley was a bit nervous about the danger and responsibility that came with that title, he supported Amity’s dreams regardless and eventually, she obtained her ranger license.[break][break]
