major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
It was a plead. What Athena was shouting was an order. The scientist never understood why they always ran away. Didn’t they know that their participation in her experiments would contribute to the greater good of humanity? Tanzsprache should’ve understood that. Athena had a specially long talk with her regarding the bee’s wonderfully adept mechanisms of flight without being aerodynamically proportioned. If she could just borrow her wings for a moment, there’d be no problem! She’d return them eventually.
However, the Combee had ran away before the surgery could be done.
Which was how she ended scouring the entire town of Sandgem in search for her Pokemon. Athena looked through every nook and corner of the small beach town with little to no success. Her energy reserves were dangerously low since she’d been at this since early morn. How could she, of all people, loose something as important as a test subject?
Asking the towns people hadn’t helped much. It was unbelievable, that no one had seen such an obvious item. It was yellow and black, and it freakin’ flew! It was afternoon, and the sun was still high so she decided to rest and retrieve her bearings. A bench in the town square was perfect for brooding over her failure. She took a sit on a bench underneath a tree and sighed deeply. If she had sat down up right, it hadn’t taken seconds before she was slouching down with a frown on her pretty face.
Maybe next time she needed better, stronger bindings?
Duty took her to the smallest, most out-of-the-way corners at times, and she had no say in things.
Call her biased, but Sandgem was all too quiet a place, good for nothing but tourist bait, or for the odd someone who was actually interested in visiting professor Rowan. Namely, not her.
Quiet, out of the place, no excitement. She didn't intend to stay for too long. It would have been nicer if she had someone to complain to, but you could hardly chat to the locals about how terrible their town was.
As she said, Hmph.
The town square was usually the center of activity in the small town, with more people bustling around, and with some semblance of a city. Something she was more used to, at least. By now, she knew certain locals well enough to nod to a few as she walked past them. Nice, but it couldn't and didn't replace real conversation.
It was with great surprise when her eyes rested on someone she did not recognise, projecting an air of gloom despite the relatively bright and cheerful day. That was interesting, to say the least. Would this pass her time? She could offer help, too, if it was needed, provided that it was within limits.
"Poor thing. Are we quite all right?" She asked, voice completely void of the emotions her words seemed to imply, instead sounding rather bland, as if they were neighbours, gossiping about innocent matters. Perhaps even slightly teasing.
That ought to bring some fun into this otherwise dull day.

It took some time before Athena realised someone had actually approached her. "Oh?" She sat upright, her gaze rising up to meet the person in question. "hmmm..." Long onyx hair, awfully unkempt, and quite the pale skin. Furthermore, red eyes caught most of her attention. Now, this was a specimen she wanted to pursue. Tanz could probably wait. Then Athena realised the person was actually speaking to her.
"Well..." She paused, as if deep in thought. " It's not that grave a situation as your hair. My Pokemon seems to be missing, and I can't find her anywhere." Then she stood up and attempted to place both hands on the woman's cheeks to get a better view of her rather interesting features, mainly her eyes.If she attempted to stop her, Athena would relent, having no physical strength whatsoever.
Regardless, the scientist would continue to speak, while examining the woman's eyes as close as possible. "I'm Athena Elder, by the way." She lowered her head to get a different angle of her eyes. " Aspiring scientist. Nice to meet you. Can you tell me if the pigmentation of your skin and eye color run in your family? Any inheriting diseases passed on? Please tell me."
A half grin began to spread across the woman's face, seemingly not insulted in the least by the other female's words. As she had expected, the woman had troubles of her own, just wasn't as worried about it as she had assumed.
"Hah, it's out of the way, and there's no point in doing it up-" her voice cut off, surprised at the advances of the stranger. Her head jerked back, but returned slowly to its normal position once she was certain the female meant no harm. Cautiously, she took a step back, hopefully now out of the other female's reach. She stayed silent for a few more moments.
"Kaileah- Kay Hemsworth." She replied finally, considering the female, more carefully this time. "Normally, I would suggest you go find a psychologist to examine your brain, but I'm assuming you've got a reason." The amusement was plain in her voice, accompanied by a note of disbelief.
As for the other questions... Hmm.
While she had never been too concerned about revealing her family history, she wasn't keen on blurting them out to a stranger. Why would she need to know, anyway?
"I wouldn't know if it was inherited." She answered truthfully with a small shrug. "I've never seen photos of my mother, and my father," she made a grimace before continuing, "we weren't that close. Hardly talked. And he's gone, too." Once more, she paused, a thoughtfully expression on her face.
"Though I'm pretty sure he looked similar to me."
She took a position next to the woman, perching lightly on the bench. It seemed like she might be here a while, she she didn't want to be tired out.
"So, oh great scientist, am I a test subject now?" She questioned in return, recovering from Athena's multitude of questions, half-smile returning to her face.
Athena couldn’t help but smile, along with the woman.
Even though she said that as a joke, no one had ever offered themselves as an experiment to her. Well, she wouldn’t pass on this opportunity. There were some parts of her story, that Athena found quite unnecessary. She really wasn’t interested in the sappy backstory of how they lost their parents, or had ran away from home, or how they planned to redeem themselves out of their guilt.
There were far more pressing matters that Athena though were very important.
“It’s very nice to meet you Kay Hemsworth.” She placed an emphasis on her nickname, as she clapped her hands together. The fact that she changed it… was she ashamed of the name her parents had given her? Athena pushed the comment of her brain aside. Clearly, the test subject had a lot more personality than she’d like, but seeing reactions and behaviour during trials was all part of science.
More importantly, there were a lot of holes in the way she recounted her past. Kay had never seen their picture, but it appeared as if she had made contact with her dad. Or at least some sort of communication was established. The most important thing about all of this was the fact that her disappearance was consequence free. Well, not completely free. This woman looked like she was employed, so they’d probably look for her, but Athena could arrange that. A few hacks into where ever she worked a Athena could fake a month holiday vacation.
“Well it is of no consequence whether you know where you come from or not.” Athena begun walking around Kay, inspecting every inch of her without really touching her. She crouched if needed checking her muscular infrastructure, and any signs of anomaly. "I can find out with just a sample of your DNA and cross reference your name with the Pokemon League’s database. With that said, I can see you have some built up physique! What kind of work do you do?”
She stopped inspecting, tapping her shoulder from her left side with a smile. “My last experiment decided to run away. I have no idea what my Combee was thinking.” Then tilted her head sideways, in a rather pensive manner. “ Everyone owes a responsibility to the world. I was studying how the Combee species flew without built in aerodynamics in their system. It is a paradox I wanted to uncover but I don't think they share the same sentiments”
Athena ended the sentence with a somewhat downcast face. It wasn’t quite obvious, but very visible to those with observant eyes.
The smile faded slowly as the woman, Athena, continued to speak.
She was uncertain as to whether the female before her required mental aid before. The woman's words didn't help stem the growing suspicion. A wary gaze followed the woman even as she walked out of Kay's direct line of vision, not bothering to be discreet about her caution.
She's never truly understood the so called 'mad scientist' until now.
A wry thought pointed out that she was not one to talk about oddities, when she herself was one. Caution pushed that thought down as fast as it emerged.
She had been joking about being a test subject, but she felt the woman took it more seriously than she had. She couldn't shake off the feeling that she was being analysed, and not in a friendly way either.
Lost in her thought as she was, it took a while before she realised the woman in front of her had asked questions that required her answer.
"Hmm? Oh, right." She muttered, jolting herself from her stupor. "I'm a ranger."
The combee incident made her more than wary of the female, however. She was aware that experiments were conducted on Pokemon, and approved of most of it. The fact that the woman spoke of it without any emotion was more odd, in her thoughts.
"Oh, that's bad." She murmured, unsure of what else to say. "Have you considered finding another one?" She didn't know much about experiments, but it seemed to her that most preferred to keep more than one at hand. Besides, she was always interested in bug-types.
"I won't be able to help much, unless you want me to find it."
Which was, now that she remembered, what she would have preferred to do in the first place, rather than get into a conversation she didn't quite understand.

There was that little voice in her head that told her to avoid further contact with this person. As a member of Team Galactic, socializing with the enemy was left to the higher-ups or at least someone capable. Then again, Athena was more than capable of handling one measly ranger. She’d have to play it cool though, and come back to the subject much later.
Instead she focused on other things. So Athena raised an eyebrow.
Ranger or not, it was rather insensitive of Kay to suggest such a thing. Replace her? Why didn’t she think of that? However. this particular Combee was rather… special. Plus, it’d give her an excuse to play the victim.. Of sorts. “No. I’m sorry, but finding a replacement would be near to impossible… unless you can find a hive of combee and catch me their queen, a Vespiquen?” At the thought of Tanz evolving, she couldn’t help but feel excited. “They keep their females very much guarded....”
Then again, she could very well make that possible. Finding the nest would be easy. Combee’s had an unusual ability to find honey, which was their source of nourishment. Never mind the fact that eating your own feces was quite revolting. It’s what they ate. She’d have to find some time to research on that.
At that moment, Athena straightened up, as if electrocuted. She just had a brilliant idea. “There are many ways you can try and help me find my dear Tanzsprache!” And then she settled down, with a confident smile on her face. Why not perform an experiment? There was another project she had shelved before, and the recent bumps with many rangers, had slowly brought the idea to fruition.
“As a Ranger though, how you start searching for lost Pokemon?” She pointed at Kay, as if demanding something from her. “ Also, I’d love to see your HQ sometime. Quite interested in how their members operate.”
The girl gave a small bow, as an answer, an odd gesture in a sitting figure. She wasn't too bothered about the considering glances that seemed to go with the title, though she has never been able to stop herself reacting.
"At your service, ma'am."
A hand tapped thoughtfully on the bench as Kay considered the woman's suggestion. She didn't know where there would be a combee nest, and fighting through all the Pokemon to get a chance at the queen was going to be a nuisance. On the other hand, a mother would solve the question of finding the nest, and her Pokemon were skilled enough to take on half a nest and the queen, if not the whole one. Distractions, then.
She put the idea aside for now. The current quest was to find the original, not to catch anymore. There were plenty of ways to find a lost Pokemon, though she did have to limit the solutions to what she could perform.
"Odor sleuth could track you combee, but I don't have access to a Pokemon that can use the move." She pointed out. "Unless you do, we can scrap that idea. If you know the speed of the combee, we can work out roughly how far it went. I also have two flying types and two pokemon that, ah, float, which is almost as good. They'd be able to perform an aerial search." She gave a brief pause, taking a breath while considering the other options.
"The only other idea I have is to spread some treats - honey, say. And wait for your combee to come back of its own accord."
She stood up as well, beside the dark-haired woman, a hand running through her hair. She had laid out several plans already, it was up to the other woman to choose what to do. She was eager to do something productive, for once in this sleepy town. "Sure you can visit, but you won't be able to go beyond the lobby. Regulations." She gave a helpless shrug, answering the question out of mere courtesy. Security was pretty tight around the building, and she wasn't about to bring a random stranger into the HQ, nor was she sure she was able to.
Athena ignored her courteous gesture, and continued talking.
“Oh? I didn’t know Ranger HQ was so … secretive, shall we say, about their place of operations. Don’t they have some facilities available to the public?” She paused thoughtfully, playing with the idea and glancing at how Kay would react. Athena really wanted to visit Ranger HQ, since she’d never been there before. But maybe headbutting the goal wasn’t the best option right now, so she attempted to switch the conversation.
“But we can talk about that later.” She waved her hands, as if shooing the subject away and sat down on the bench again, crossing her legs. “Well, let me see how these plans would work out in theory.” Athena leaned back and stared at how Kay would react to the following anti-thesis. “Not so sure how effective Odour Sleuth would be outside battle, considering it simply negates the evasion of it’s target, and neither of us have such a Pokemon. We could do an Aerial search, but considering it’s been gone for more than 12 hours, it’s probably headed back to it’s nest all the way in Lake Valor.” The scientist paused and then stood up to face Kay. “Last but not the least, honey. Combees aren’t the only species that love to eat honey. We’d risk attracting other wild Pokemon such Ursaring, Heracross and the like, causing further delay.”
Then, slumped down on her seat. For once, she expected something out of this person, but as it turns out, she was just a run-o-the mill Ranger with nothing special about her, apart from her weird pigmentation and iris.
It was rather disappointing, if anyone asked her. “Any other bright ideas?”
To the other woman's comments, Kay gave a small snort. "It's not that we're hiding secrets. It's the main base. Security is high. And I doubt the local one would let you in to sightsee either." The words said, she gave the woman a curious glance. What was it that was so interesting with the HQ? It was interesting, but the other woman seemed disinclined dot talk anymore on the ,after, and she let it drop.
"The move is supposed to enhance the nose." She insisted, "it literally means to sniff out a scent." True, she wasn't sure if it would actually work, given that the trail had been lying stale for twelve hours, but in theory, a good nose meant better chances of finding fact that the bee had been missing for a while made things far harder, and not just with scents, either. Although...
"Its nest is in Lake Valor? Should you search there first, then? It take time to travel there, but as a last resort, anyway."
If it came down to speed, it shouldn't be much of a trouble. She could do fast, and Lake Valor was along the road back to twinleaf. Not all that far.
The woman did have a point with the honey, though she originally thought that the range would be the problem. She could see the other's logic, although she wouldn't have minded picking a fight with a wild Pokemon herself.
"Oh, ideas? Plenty. Useable in the short-term? Not exactly." Imagination wasn't something she lacked, but it tended to run away with her.
Athena smiled, but it was the sort of smile that instigated trouble. She was half teasing/testing how capable the Rangers, sworn enemies of Galactic by nature, could be when faced in a situation. Although she couldn’t gouge how capable the entire organization was by just an individual, she could very well tell how efficient Ranger training was, and/or maintenance when it came to their skills. This one unfortunately did not know what to do with herself.
In reality, all options were viable should Kay wanted them to be, but the ranger’s personality disallowed each potential to manifest. Was she so weak willed that one word from a stranger was able to stopple her attempts to rescue a victim in need?
Truly, emotions were a waste of energy.
“Well, it’s true that if I were a Combee, I’d want to go back to my old nest. This is if we look at it from a human point of view.” Athena was still sitting down, observing Kay’s reaction very carefully. “More often than not, when a female Combee leaves its old nest, it doesn’t take long for her old colony to find a new queen regent, to take her place. As a result, the old female queen attracts other Combees with Honey and it creates a new hive. “
Athena then rested her chin on a hand and fixed a lock of hair behind her ear, clearly bored from having to explain such a simple thing. If Kay had to make the scientist repeat herself, the ranger would get an earful.

She was tempted to turn her nose up and walk away, just to see how the odd woman would react. And that would be an idea she would regret, of course. She was enjoying the little talk, and wasn't at all hurt busy the other's somewhat patronizing words, unlike someone more delicate.
She did, however, feel slightly miffed at the fact that the woman was rejecting her ideas, considering that the woman wasn't thinking about it herself.
"I had ideas, then you ripped them apart into shreds." She muttered half-heartedly, more as a joke than a serious complaint. "But, yeah, I can think of some." The pokeball retrieval system had a limited range, so there wasn't a way to exploit that. She was getting the hang of what the woman wanted/expected now.
"I still feel like we should conduct an aerial search first. It'll be silly if we search around, and then find it was under our noses the whole time." She pointed out, sitting down once more with a sigh. The best way to find a missing pokemon, in her opinion, was to never lose it in the first place. Or to form a close enough bond with it so it'll come back of its own accord.
"You wouldn't have bothered to microchip the combee, would you?" She said at last, with an air of desperation. There really wasn't much else they could do, unless the combee was attached to its master enough to come back of its own accord, which still could happen, she guessed. Most of the solutions required more resources than she had.
Which meant if she wanted to help out on such things in the future, she would have to work harder.
Damn.

Athena did not comment but simply smiled at Kay; it was smug, in a subtle way.
This was somewhat entertaining, which was better than doing nothing but wait until Tanz either miraculously returned or until she’d get the emotion of actually wanting to find her Pokemon. Right now, however, she was feeling somewhat lazy, and if not for this kind, and willing soul to help, she’d probably have left too.
But her experiments were precious. And yet, she wasn’t inclined to do such hard labour. This is why fools like the Ranger HQ existed, to be paid and risk their lives for menial task. If anything, they were worth more trouble than the actual problem at hand. The only reason Athena even bothered to entertain this ranger was for pure amusement.
So she would amuse herself. “Aerial search huh?” The scientist said blandly.
It was an idea at least, one that she sounded sure and not something she had to throw just because she asked her. For someone as meticulous as Athena, one good plan was better than many plans with little faith on them. The corner of her mouth raised a little bit. It appeared as if this ranger was shaping up, though teaching someone how to do their job was not something Athena did often. In fact, she condemned it. Those who didn’t know how to do their jobs properly, deserved no second chances.
The mention of a microchip did intrigue her, and bookmarked the idea, though there were still many finer details to polish should she decide to create one. “Microchips, huh? Now there’s an idea!” She said with mocking surprise, clapping her hands. “ Actually, best one so far.”
Athena stood up and dusted her ass from any dust that clung to her dress.“ But I think it might interfere with the Pokeball retrieval system. Some are known to hold items, but not all of them can be brought inside the ball’s protective space. Still, having eyes in the sky would be fun.”
The idea was mundane, but it was an opportunity to see what kind of Pokemon the ranger had. “ Can you show me the Pokemon you’re going to use?”
Pleased perhaps was an exaggeration of what the ranger felt st that moment. She was somewhat reconciled by the fact that her ideas were accepted, but her other ideas were rejected, which...
She was tempted to say some scathing things about a certain somebody breaking her self-confidence, but she doubted the woman would care. She was annoyed, but her pride wasn't all that dented.
"Best one so far." She muttered rebelliously. "In another's brains they'd all be pretty good."
She did perk up a bit, seeing as that something could be done. While throwing ideas around was necessary, she wasn't a planner, and she didn't need a sounding board.
"Sure." She shrugged, calming down somewhat. After a slight pause, she pulled out two pokeballs, releasing them one by one. "Ra," she pointed to the skarmory, "and Evans." the yanma.
Saying that, she gave Athena a small, considering glance.
"You have anything that could help? You've been sitting around for quite a bit now."
And of absolutely no help, she added silently.

Athena did not pay attention to the Ranger’s accusations. She’d done plenty of walking before they’d met, but to be honest, she wasn’t really putting an effort into this, since it was Combee who ran away, not the other way around. Why did she have to suffer for the mistake of others?
Needless to say, the bee pokemon di owe her an experiment, and for that she could at least try.
The scientist watched as Kay released the Pokemon that would become her eyes in the sky. A Skarmory named Ra, and a Yanma named Evans. The Bug-type Pokemon would be good for the aerial search specially if it had Compound Eyes. Speed Boost would definitely lessen their time in searching. The Skarmory, however, was much more intriguing to her as it fell right under the aerodynamic paradox that plagued her Combee.
It was made of steel, yet it could fly without propulsion or jets.
Athena stood up and released her Rotom. It zipped wildly before settling down just in front of Athena.
“Rootooomm!!”
“This is Ampere. It may not be a flying type, but it’s capable of doing so.” She went and approached Skarmory with gleaming eyes of interesting. “ A Skarmory, huh… your feathers are sooo pretty.” Whether the Skarmory (or the owner) allowed her so, Athena would attempt and caress the steel-types wings. Oh how she desired to pluck one out and bring it back to HQ. “ Say…. can I borrow him after we’re done?’
