GG was confident in her abilities sure, maybe even a little cocky about it. What she wasn’t so sure about was Kitty being able to beat a rock type gym. She was admittedly a little worried about it as she walked in, hands on her hips and gaze sliding around the place. The gym leader cheerfully greeted her, seeming to enjoy the sudden company.
"welcome! this is the oreburgh pokémon gym! i'm roark, the first gym leader in sinnoh! i'm but one trainer who decided to walk proudly with rock-type pokémon! as the gym leader, i need to see your potential as a trainer. and, i'll need to see the toughness of the pokémon that battle with you!"
It was kind of lame, and GG mostly ignored him if she was honest. He seemed a little crestfallen that his speech was ignored, but he powered on and sent out his first pokemon. GG reached for her pokeball, but jolted in surprise when Duckie forced himself out of his pokeball, hands on his head with a confused “psssyyyy?”
“NO NU UH GET BACK IN YOUR POKEBALL!”
Duckie looked around, the psyduck seeming to realize what was going on, and waddled forward happily eager to show it’s trainer that he could do this! He could win this badge for her! GG nearly screamed in frustration but figured the best way to get this done was to let the little guy faint so she could get her real pokemon out. She sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose but let him do his thing, noting that Roark seemed to be waiting for her to make the first move. Geodude was a rock type, and this was a rock type gym, and Roark suddenly seemed a little nervous….the pieces were a bit slow to click in GG’s head, but Duckie was a water type. Her heart thrummed in her chest as she realized what that meant, and eagerly pointed to the Geodude.
“Aqua tail!”
Duckie turned and waggled his tail cutely, which did nothing for a moment. GG was going red in the face, about to start yelling, until a huge wave of water crashed over the other pokemon. Roark went red in the face from embarrassment, and GG grinned behind her bandana. The Geodude used stealth rock, but GG countered and fainted the pokemon with another aqua tail. It was a little cheap she knew as the Geodude was replaced with Onix, to spam aqua tail, but as she used the move again she couldn’t help but feel the thrill of victory on the horizon. Onix used screech and GG covered her ears with a whine, tearing up slightly at the loud noise. Roark had an apology on his tongue seeing the pain she was in, but once his Onix was fainted with another aqua tail it died in his throat.
Cranidos was a little more difficult. It used headbutt on Duckie, who took a bit more damage due to the screech, but aqua tail was still super effective. Duckie nearly fainted on another headbutt, but barely managed to pull through when GG used a potion on him. With another headbutt he was down to low health again, but with another aqua tail the Cranidos was down.
GG had won, much to her happiness.
“Wow I guess you aren’t entirely useless Duckie!”
