so here’s the thing about...

Dreams. Dreams are a great way to start off life, with ambitions and dreams and a thirsty desire to take on the world. They had all that, all those nice little things that meant life would go by rather easily for them in the long run. They had a family in Laverre town consisting of a set of grandparents and an aunt, but no mother and father. That was fine for them, that never really interrupted their dreams. Hunter always wanted to be a ranger - someone who would protect pokemon. Pokemon to them were more important than anything in the world, and they could certainly prove it in their own way. [break][break]

Of course not everything could move so smoothly in the long run. A fire took their house, and their family. Set by a local rambunctious pokemon Hunter found they had nothing now. No family. No grandma and grandpa and no auntie. Laverre seemed like a distant memory suddenly. Snowbelle was far colder than they had anticipated, and the people there sure were lovely, but they weren’t family. No matter what adoption papers said, it didn’t matter. [break][break]

so here’s the thing about…

Family. Family was, always has been, and always will be a touchy subject for Hunter. Hunter’s never really had a family and isn’t sure why, can’t remember a time when they didn’t constantly feel unstable, can’t remember a time where they didn’t take pills. Hunter can’t even remember a time when they referred to themself anything other than “they” and it makes the creatures that live in their house - their supposed “parents” - angry. They yell at Hunter, they don’t hit but they don’t need to. They feel bad when Hunter flinches away from raised arms and raised voices, and they try to apologize with things. Things won’t make the pain go away, and neither will the pills. [break][break]

At least the pills are colorful. The Parents tell Hunter that the pills help the night terrors, the sleep paralysis, the sleepwalking and bedwetting that kept happening after the “incident.” The Parents never tell them what the incident was or why they were sleepwalking in the first place, or why they can’t remember ever having those problems before. But there’s still a shred of hope that lives on in Hunter, that dream that comes back every so often sweetly crooning about saving pokemon and arresting bad guys for their improper use of the sweet creatures that lived among them. Being so close to the Pokemon Village, left in secret but found by wandering eyes, was a godsend. [break][break]

so here’s the thing about…

Pokemon. Pokemon don’t tend to judge small genderfluid children with confused frowns, red eyes, and runny noses. Pokemon tend to flock toward small children with kind hearts and gentle fingers. They don’t judge, they don’t yell, they don’t threaten. They do what they can to protect themselves but otherwise pokemon are perfectly capable of making decisions about people based on their auras. Hunter believes this, and believes this is why they got to find the pokemon village so close to Snowbelle. Hunter, with nothing to lose, expresses this to The Parents. The Parents don’t take kindly to this nonsense, and move them away from Snowbelle all the way to Couriway. Hunter is upset, but is also numb due to more pills, ever more pills. [break][break]

Hunter knows they don’t want what’s best for them, so when they turn 18 Hunter runs away and never looks back. Hunter takes the time to revert to a name that they remember vaguely (Honey-something or other they know that much) and they make it up as they go along. They never write home, they never do much of anything really except keep trying to find the main Ranger offices. They got lost a couple of times but eventually made it, and well….[break][break]

so here’s the thing about…

Rangers. Rangers are wonderful people, and Hunter really felt at home with them. However, they made a decision and discussed it and hey, their decision was totally worked through. The first official “scout” of the Rangers, Hunter ran around and reported back goings on that she found suspicious or pokemon that really needed help before actually doing anything themself. Through this method they found and rescued plenty of pokemon, and even heard rumors about the Sinnoh region and an up and coming Galactic team. Taking their own team of pokemon they wet to this region they’d never been in before, and started a new adventure.
