major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
fidel trotted along the route, surprisingly, without a pokemon in tow. she'd picked up the habit of bringing her pokemon along for the ride and letting them smell fresh air after she'd seen people from johto do it when they docked in canalave. the idea just made sense to her, at the time. however, today wasn't really one of those days. no, instead, fidel wanted to test something. if she brought her pokemon out, would there be more or less wild pokemon? so she'd experiment.
common sense, given the last route, she'd caught a whole two pokemon, but nearly had her scyther knocked out by the latter pokemon. she'd like to avoid that, definitely. so she didn't have anyone out. 'though, it would have been nice to see knife with his new metal coat...' she huffed contently at the memory. damn, the professor was nice as shit. gave her a free metal coat to put on her scyther! not that she knew if it learnt steel-type moves, but extra armor is always good.
suddenly, fidel found herself looking at a head of blonde hair and a face of holyshitpretty-- fidel immediately broke out a cold sweat. ohhh, dear god, she was already gay as fuck for this lady. not to say she wasn't the biggest homosexual this side of canalave already, but hot damn, she wanted to sing sweet 90s R&B to her. 'must not stare at sexy. must not stare at sexy. mustnotstare-- STARE, SHE ISN'T LOOKING-- NOW STOP--'
(fidel didn't notice the trade going through in her pokenav due to her having all the common sense of a dog in heat at the moment.)
bruh, if this was the club, she'd need like three homies holding her back, she was about to buy this girl the whole fucking bar, she was looking this way, "afternoon!" fidel smiled amiably, despite her hormones making her go mentally bonkers. she was controlled like that. alright, bitch, pull yourself together! you've talked to grill-- girls-- before! you are a girl! now, this lady was probably nice and cool and do not start grinding the floor--
suddenly, there was a rustle in the grass, and fidel cooled her hormones just enough so that she had the mind to whip out a pokeball. the one carrying scyther, which was the one at the front of her lineup. man, she hoped this lady was a trainer like her. if she was going through the route, she probably was. "hope you got pokemon, man." the younger girl quipped, ready to throw her pokeball at any minute.
Between the drama, she feels the desire to relive the nostalgia of her own upbringing. The torrential downpour on route 215 had re-awakened what seemed like childhood glee, and almost immediately as she left the Veilstone Gym the blond was flying back the route that served as the precursor to her new life. The route that made her meet him. The route that, ultimately, put her in the precarious position as Ranger Elite and Galactic leader. She relives that night, Marill on her belt in place of her Cranidos- it's not Pumpkin, but the Marill is still a relic of the first leg of her adventure.
The path was relatively empty, aside from bobbing brunette hair in the near distance. A new trainer? The thought is enough to make her smile-- and not just a small one, a teeth-flashing, genuine grin; one she wears as she approaches the stranger. Lena doesn't take notice to the internal conflict, how could she? She's just being friendly, and she's too distracted to notice the click of the neglected pokenav she still carries. "Beautiful day, isn't it?" Unusually chipper for her current self, Lena finds herself open to conversation, even to the extend where she's slowed her trek forward. A rustle of grass to the side, and a comment from the girl.
"Oh, yeah, absolutely!" Maybe the other didn't? Maybe not a trainer after all? It didn't matter. She was still a ranger on paper, this was still technically her job. Nimble fingers find themselves on Zuzu's pokeball, releasing the pokemon to fight whatever dares to come out.
Except this wasn't Zuzu. The bright light from the release doesn't form a plump, round water-type on the ground. Instead a shining red pokemon appears, about as tall as she is. Eyes narrow as she immediately recognizes the Scizor as the same species that had threatened her life not even a week ago. That beautiful smile quickly turns into a frown- she's defensive now. Did Aster plant a pokemon on her? Her mind races as she panics, frantically looking through her remaining pokeballs for any signs of the Marill.
"Um- I, ahh.. ahhh," She's at a lost for words, feeling incredibly stupid and incredibly exposed. "This isn't my- umm."
suddenly, there's a big old red bug in the way, released by the other woman. the scizor leaps into action, automatically raising it's face-like arms to intimidate... it's trainer? it seems to be breathing quickly, as if it had just gone through a life-changing experience, but it's claws are shaky, apprehensive. fearful yet furious, and acting off of fight-or-flight instinct. fidel's concerned, and she drops her own pokeball in case the bug tried anything.
a... marill? the tiny pokemon gives a concerned cry, looking confusedly at both fidel and lena. "...what? where's my--" but-- that was-- where the fuck was her scyther? that woman... any previous whimsies in fidel's mind disappeared when she realized her pokemon was missing. associating the woman with the loss of her scyther, she went from friendly to irate in less than a second, her protectiveness and street-borne paranoia kicking in. she loved her pokemon. all of them. she'd fuck up whoever took them away, no questions asked. fidel whirled to make eye contact with lena, her face screwed into a hateful sneer. "oy, lady, you better explain why i've got a marill instead of a scyther, or i'll help your scizor bash your skull in!" the girl snarled and balled up her fists, rolling up her sleeves to reveal toned muscles fit for a scrapper.
suddenly, the scizor turned to fidel and pushed her back with a claw, like a friend who would stop two people from brawling each other. fidel was far too familiar with that sensation than she should have been, the relapse in feeling causing her to hesitate from beating into the scizor herself. pokemon and trainer held eye contact for what felt like an eternity before the scizor slowly raised a claw to gesture at fidel's pokeball, then at itself. fidel's eyes widened, and she inhaled sharply. the wind blew by as the moments passed, the brunette piecing together what happened.
"wait..." the girl whipped out her pokenav and found it on the trade application, with a 'completed' screen on it. "fuck."
"..." fidel grew silent, as if accepting her folly, but it was very apparent that there was a growing self-hatred within her. "...name's fidel bolivar, if you want to press charges. i only deserve it. and your new scizor is knife." fidel muttered that last part bitterly. alright, prerogative was getting knife back. she was still up for beating up the lady and, worst case scenario, beating up the lady's pokemon, too. she'd run from the police once. she could do it again.
The short-lived awkward silence of her confusion is interrupted by the other girl's anger. Lena's expression drops, hands raise in defense as she shakes her head. "I didn't-- this is a misunderstanding, I promise-" still, she's cut off by the feisty stranger, until the scizor itself intervenes. "I don't have a scizor..." she grumbles, but the pokemon has already started doing the talking for her. Lena's Marill has come to hug the blonde's leg in the meantime, staring up at the brunette, defiant. As if it would fight for anyone but the person who caught it. The pokenav. right. Lena forgot she owned the thing, but upon fishing it out of the bottom of her bag, she finds the same screen.
"Oh.." She didn't even know that was possible. Was it malware, or a dysfunction? Regardless it had gotten her into a situation the wished to remove herself from immediately. Tense shoulders relax as the anger subsides, face turns sympathetic, a weak smile is offered to the stranger. "Lena Ruddy and no, you're fine, it's okay," she laughs, fiddling around with the pokenav until the trade screen appears again. She flashes it at the brunette- "it's not my pokemon, it's yours. It obviously cares enough to let you know that," that, and she wanted that Marill back. She keeps her composure about it, but the relic from her early days is something she can't bear to see walk away with another trainer so easily.
"Request up" she chimes, looking up from the tech. "Congratulations on your evolution."
fidel eyed the woman with a drop of suspicion. she seemed... really, really nonchalant about this. maybe it was because she was totally confident that both their pokemon wouldn't agree with the trade. the marill seemed adverse to fidel enough, and knife was about to mow somebody down before it noticed fidel getting angry herself. or, maybe it was because the woman was just that type of person. or maybe it was a conspiracy! ...nah.
fidel guessed she just... didn't trust people enough. how could she, when half the guys in her neighborhood had beef with her? so when she got out her pokenav, she got it out very slowly, and only accepted the re-trade after reading the fine print. never know if somebody might scam you for some other scizor they didn't want, or if they planted something on knife, or... there were too many options. bad trades were fairly common, and fidel wanted none of it.
a ping, and it was done. fidel had her pokemon back. "...never would have figured out what scizor evolved from," she started with a pause. honestly, she didn't. she knew that it was a trade and item evolution, but not what pokemon it originated from. "thought came from kricketune or ledian or something." the girl gave a small chuckle, slowly recovering from her wariness.
"thanks for working with me. i come from the projects in canalave, so i half expected you to run away with my pokemon, man." the girl joked, but there was more of a bitter tone in it than she wanted. people got kneecaps busted for less. she'd seen it. "anything your marill had on it that it's missing before i accidentally run off with an amulet coin or something?"
She laughs, just a little, as the girl explains herself. "It's a Scyther with a metal coat. Watched it happen about 3 years ago, pretty cool stuff. Not really sure why it only happens during trade, though.." she ponders the question, eyeing the red bug. "Maybe a stress response?"
In any case, Zuzu is happy to be re-affiliated with her original trainer. "Missing?" Lena lifts up the round pokemon, smiling as the water pokemon giggles. She turns it on its side, upsidedown, rightside up-- it's all fun for the Marill, similar to a child. Lena tucks the squeaking pokemon under her arm, beaming at Fidel. "Nope, not a thing. Thanks for thinking about it though, I would have been pretty upset if there had been. Sorry again for the mix up!"
She's about set to carry on her way, unless the girl has any final proclamations. Maybe a touch of politeness wouldn't hurt. "Are you on your way to Oreburg?"
fidel nodded, now about as friendly as she had been before. "yup! headed to the gym. though, i'll probably detour over to floroama. i hear there's a festival going on, and i want in." festivals were always fun for fidel. normally cheap admission, enough games to fill an arcade, and she had once broke into... ahem. not the point! in any case, fidel had very fond memories of festivals, and now that she was really eighteen, she might be able to have a little more fun. like vote! at the festival. totally. "either way, jubilife's my next location, so." the girl shrugged before her eyes trailed to look at her new scizor. man, knife suddenly got sleek. before, the bug-type was fairly rough, and looked average for a bug-type, bar the size. an organic carapace, some naturally-patterned wings, and ridges befitting of an insect. now, her pokemon was about as shiny, metal, and aerodynamic as the nearest sports car. "you?"

Oh, right, Floaroma. She frowns a bit at the mention. "Ah, yeah. I was there earlier. Should be fun for you!" she's smiling at the end of it, voice high and happy, even if forced. Lena has to remind herself that most people there would have a wonderful experience-- just because she fucked up didn't mean everyone else would. "They have a rare pokemon catching garden, you should hit that first." Infant's place of origin, and probably the highlight of her time in Floaroma.
"Jubilife is nice too, but I haven't been there that much. Nice to pass through," what a normal way to live-- and she used to be the same way. This was the entire reason she returned to this route: nostalgia's sake. "Oh.. I'm not really going anywhere," she laughs lightly. "Just exploring old stops. I should probably head back to Veilstone soon, to be honest. Good luck on your journey though."
yo, this lady seemed kinda fake at the mention of floroama. fidel had a tendency to see those things easily. back in canalave, girls had all sorts of beef with each other, but pretended to like each other just to get into parties and avoid drama until it exploded at the last second. seeing someone hold back their discontentment was fairly second-nature to fidel, though not totally instinctual. "yeah, i'll be sure to check it out! i haven't gotten six pokemon, y'know, so i'll try and get a few more."
"yo, i went to jubilife before heading to the professor's place. it's really, really clean. wish canalave was like that." then again, she'd never grown up in jubilife. maybe it wasn't so different from the streets of canalave? ...nah, it was less isolated. they'd probably get infected from all the good vibes from sandgem and floroama. "and thanks! i'm just cruising around sinnoh."
"well, i guess i'll see your around." the scizor next to fidel pinned lena down with one last glare of annoyance before retreating into it's pokeball. that was probably the signal that they'd part ways. overall, a very productive encounter... if not a fairly heart-attack-inducing one. "try not to steal any other pokemon, man!" fidel added on before she went on one direction and lena went in another direction. her tone was lighthearted, clearly a joke...
...but if you looked at an angle with a certain lighting, fidel looked like she meant it.
