Upon her arrival in Veilstone, Lena becomes completely ignorant of any information she may have been given. The excitement of being somewhere new, somewhere away.. the mountain scene brings her peace, the rustic nature of the city calming, in a way. She feels home, despite being far away. She's still a ranger-- she's gotten a new pistol, the other buried under the rubble on route 210. She sighs, almost paranoid that she's going to be seen. Lena hasnt reported to HQ since her equipment has been broken-- she's a rogue right now, still on call for the investigation of the assault on adrien arkwright .
In other words, she's a runner.
She ignores this, and ignores the probable want out for the her investigation. Instead, the gym calls to her. You goal is to get two more badges. She wanted all eight. Three pokeballs selected for this battle, she makes her way into the fighting gym, greeted with the sound of fists beating into bags, the smell of chalk and sweat filling the air. She suddenly feels very out of place. Regardless of her attire, she's invited to the ring. Lena offers a curt nod and obeys, suddenly faced with the rough-looking, pink-haired gym leader.
Let's go! Whenever you're ready!.
All right, easy enough. A meditite falls from the rungs above the ring, landing on the mats without a sound. Impressive. Her first pokemon is anything but-- the slowpoke is ordered to fight, and while it may not look it, the thing retains the experience from its previous battles. It yawns. Maylene isn't sure what to think, but a battle is a battle. Lena doesn't hesitate to begin. "Earthquake". Woah, woah, let's not be hasty!-- Maylene's protests fall of deaf ears as the slowpoke stomps on the ground, psychic power assisting its body weight in exerting a force powerful enough to nearly knock out the blue fighting pokemon. The meditite isn't harmed-- Lena sees the protective barrier fall, and she frowns. Maylene laughs- that's not the first one we've seen!. Lena flashes her teeth in what can be taken as a smile. "Combo." Dull eyes glow blue as the confusion takes hold over the meditite's body, leaving it useless as the slowpoke unleashes another earthquake on the thing. Through the rubble in the aftermath the opponent comes flying through with a drain punch, eager to redeem itself despite its critically low health. The psychic-fighting would be met with a nasty water pulse, drowning before it can reach the pink pokemon. Maylene huffs, recalling the pokemon. Lena does the same-- a lot of energy will be going into this next opponent.
Her cranidos takes the field, severely inexperienced, and curious about the new-age world around it. Lena has to point it in the right direction as it's released-- the fossil pokemon is obviously willing to fight, it just doesn't know what. Not until the Machoke is released. The humanoid pokemon towers over the cranidos, but it only excites the little pokemon more. A glare turns into a scary face-- the Machoke's speeds drops significantly. Lena notices. "Keep doing that." The cranidos looks back, commands are foreign. She throws it a snack instead, as positive reinforcement- it gets that. Maylene looks puzzed, but commences the next leg of the battle. The Machoke has leered at the fossil pokemon, and the angry cranidos responds with an earthquake and another scary face. The hit doesn't hurt the humanoid pokemon much-- Maylene realizes how low-leveled it must be. Let's take it easy... Lena scoffs to herself- as if. She capitalizes on the foresight of the Machoke, ordering another earthquake. "Whittle it down, Infant." Another snack. Cranidos is starting to understand. The Machoke seems to be moving it slow motion as Maylene summons it forward to perform a brick break attack-- Infant easy jumps out of the way, firing off a third earthquake on the fighting-type. Maylene is getting frustrated. Rock tomb!
In seconds, the Cranidos is buried. Lena feels herself holding her breath. The Machoke is already in a victorious mindset, smiling at his master as the rubble that buries the fossil pokemon shifts. Maylene shouts for the Machoke to watch out, but it's too late. The headbutt pokemon is charging with just that- a finishing headbutt. A running leap propels the prehistoric pokemon into the Machoke's muscley-gut-- it falls. Cranidos is perched on top of it, scratching at its stomach-- it falls to the ground as the Machoke is recalled with a thud. Lena smiles, recalling the obviously weakened pokemon.
"Last one, huh?"
Lancer. He's been waiting for this battle since they left Eterna, and Lena has left the gym leader's rumored strongest pokemon for last. The Lucario is impressive at best, and Lancer spreads his wings as he glares down the aura pokemon. "Fly." Bone rush! Both move at lightning speed- but Lancer is in the air before the bone shank in the Lucario's paws can batter it. One dive bomb and fierce talons dig into the aura pokemon's flesh with vigor-- the fly does the damage it is intended to do. Lena is pleased, but the thing still stands. "Barrier up!" she barks, watching as the Lucario rushes forward with its aura sphere, only to be denied by the protect. Lancer breaks through his own field, ending the battle abruptly and with aerial ace.
Victory goes to the challenger! A referee from the sidelines confirms the end of the battle. Lena recalls her pokemon, gathers her winnings, thanks Maylene for the battle, and leaves.
