major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
Knock out. Lena winces, in pain to see her poor pokemon manipulated so, but it had to happen eventually. She recalls the limp stunky from Mawile's arms. "Go ahead Toad, leech it." The bulbasaur run-hops onto the field, two small seeds emerging from its bulb and ingraining themselves into the dirt. The ground glows-- roots shoot up and aim to entangle the Mawile. Attack, she mumble/sighs, standing back up. An upward glances catches the other trainer (?)'s eyes on her-- she simply frowns.
Toad makes his lunge before waiting to see the fruits of his leech seed. With a head on tackle, he has the full intention to use Pumpkin's screeches, even after she has fainted.
stunky - 10 - 0% fainted +1 lvl
bulbasaur - 11 - 100% used leech seed! used tackle! @sidney
the seeds clung messily to mawile's skin, but at least at the start they did nothing but prove an inconvenience and discomfort. like a constant pinching. what caused much more of discomfort was the attack that followed from the bulbasaur. with the screeches having weakened her defenses, the tackle hit her with much more oomph than she'd expected. it almost buckled her, as she skidded across the grass and her knees trembled. at the same time it irritated her, she let out a groan of frustration as she straightened up and began an all out charge towards the bulbasaur.
sidney watched as she drew in close, head shining again, before whipping the jaw attached to her head around. another approach to iron head, using the extension as the contact point instead of her own forehead as she was so wont to do. and it was a hard wind up. sidney hoped it would end the battle, but he couldn't be sure when the seeds on the mawile's body opened up and began to glow. no doubt the "leech" part of "leech seed" in effect.
mawile | lv17 | hyper cutter | health: red iron head - play rough - vice grip - astonish - fake tears - taunt defense down -4 mawile was seeded! had her health leeched!
Seeing Toad's moves land so effectively is something to get her excited again. Lena's hands clasp together as she watched on, proud of her little grass frog. The mawile, obviously battered, is a more than welcome sign. "Watch out, it's still stronger," she cautions, and Toad listens. It quickly jumps away after its tackle, ears pinned, taking a breath as the other pokemon swings its jaws. "Propel yourself up with vine whip!" she orders, crossing her fingers as the bulbasaur's vines smack the ground, giving it enough leverage to teeter over the mawile, suspended in the air. All she wants is one hit... and for Toad not to be knocked out terribly.
"Use 'em!"
As he falls, the previous vines whip around him in an attempt to negate anything that could possibly charge. He feeds off the steel fairy's energy, despite his inexperience. Lena can only watch, nervous and proud and about to throw up all at the same time.
bulbasaur - 11 - 100% dodged! used vine whip! @sidney
the wide swing offered increased range, but also meant a longer arc. mawile's miss left it open to an attack, and sidney could only bite at his cheek as the bulbasaur took advantage. thankfully it used its attack defensively, swinging vines in a protective circle instead of actually lashing out at mawile. as far as sidney was concerned that was a mistake. even a reckless move was better than none at all. he trusted mawile not to fall into the same trap twice.
"be more careful, you can end this with one good hit!" while mawile's all out offense was a thing he appreciated, he didn't need her falling into a trap because of it. if she ran in head first and wound up getting caught in an attack things would be bad. thankfully, it seeemed they were on the same page as the mawile stopped moving and just looked at the bulbasaur. and then, to his surprise, burst into tears. all at once the pokemon became a blubbering mess, crying and whining and rubbing at its eyes. it was a convincing display that had sidney worried for a moment, and then he remember just what pokemon he was dealing with.
"stop crying like that, just attack it!" sidney knew they were fake tears, but that didn't mean his opponents did. so why not play it up? if they fell for it, great, if not they'd approach in a different way. in either case the mawile's back jaw twitched, ready to catch the opponent with another iron head should they be so foolish as to come close.

Where as Lena felt immediate remorse for the crying pokemon, the bulbasaur was more wary than its stunky precursor. "Wait--" she spoke up, seeing the other trainer scold its pokemon. Toad ignores her. Little bulbasaur fangs beared and ears back, he crouches, stalking in a circle around the mawile. He's weary-- he has right to be. Seeing the end of last battle, seeing the pure brutality behind the mawile's moves, he doesn't trust it. "Toad, stop-" Lena steps forward, hand extended to reach for his pokeball. A vine whip knocks it from her hands, coming to circle back around with the full intention to smack into the Mawile with full force. Lena is too dumbfounded to call it off-- she just watches as her pokeman attacks the crying one.
Panic in her eyes, expecting to be scolded by the other trainer, Lena looks down and up between her pokemon's actions and the stranger.
the ploy didn't work, but that was okay. the upside of the trick was that mawile got to sit there and just watch. her eyes had been following the bulbasaur through her tears, and when the vine whip flicked out she watched that too. the sight of it stopped the waterworks instantly. instead she jumped into action. as soon as the vine flicked out she dived forward, avoiding the hit. still, she was running out of time. her body ached, and the draining seeds left her feeling exhausted. still, she had enough for this desperate attack.
"just finish it!" as far as sidney was concerned this battled had gone about three turns too long. mawile had the strength and the skill to knock some low level nothing out, why she wasn't was beyond him. regardless the order was enough. mawile ran in close, and once more went for an iron head. though this time the added range was ditched with the goal of a faster attack. instead of having to stop and swing she just kept up the dash and dived forward. a flying headbutt. not the most sophisticated thing, but fast and hard hitting. a final gambit as she felt her strength finally failing her.
strength that failed her on the way. whether or not the attack hit, and whether or not it even did damage, the budding seeds took the last bit of energy she had left.
mawile | lv17 | hyper cutter | health: 0 iron head - play rough - vice grip - astonish - fake tears - taunt defense down -4 mawile had her health leeched! mawile fainted!
Toad's time of prancing around the battlefield is over. He's too slow- the iron head hits him from the side, knocking him into the brush. Lena jumps to action, ignoring the battle, heart racing as she scours the ground for her fainted pokemon. She barely notices that the Mawile fainted the same time her attack hit-- she was too focused on search-and-rescue. Who fainted first? The more she thinks about it, the loss seems mutual. Regardless, Toad would come out stronger; fighting a pokemon that was obviously such a highler level was the best thing he could have possibly done. The stranger may be more cynical (he didn't seem the compassionate type, after all), but that was a big battle for the little grass type. Lena lets her pokeball find the bulbasaur, the red light absorbing her pokemon.
She returns to her previous place, forcing a smile. "Thanks anyway," she tries to chirp, despite her anguish. She never expected to win every battle, but to lose like this left a bad taste in her mouth, especially when they were so close. The 1 hit KO left no wiggle room for her to even heal Toad after his attack. She owed her entire team a good rest before the journey later tonight.
"Really strong pokemon, really makes me feel like a background character," she speaks through her teeth, body tense as she feigns contentedness. "Oh, I know! I'll hunt you down in a month or so, we can try this again~"
God knows that's the last thing she wants to do to herself, but she refuses to look like a sore loser.
sidney could feel his jaw tighten. his pokemon were pathetic, and he was sick of it. both of them barely got through two pokemon significantly weaker than them. and surely heracross would have been equally useless. it drove him up a wall. they were rare and strong pokemon. smart, if not that brutally strong, if not that enthusiastic enough to make up for it. and yet this stupid, bumbling trainer and her infantile pokemon proved a challenge. if she had two more pokemon he might have even lost to her. needless to say, while the girl ran to coddle her weed sidney hardly paid the mawile any mind. returned it and left it at that.
"thanks for what?" he barely kept the venom out of his words as he clicked mawile's pokeball into place. now he'd have to waste his time walking back to the pokemon center and healing them, which would mean another walk through the route when it's potentially not as quiet. perfect, exactly what he didn't want. and thanks to who? this stupid child in front of him who couldn't keep her pokemon to her fucking self. just seeing her face now made him boil.
"hunt me down again and you won't stand a chance," sidney couldn't help the angry words, "my pokemon are only going to get stronger, i don't know if i can say the same about yours." it was a baseless accusation. the battle had been ridiculously close all things considered, the fact that she got two of his pokemon had to say something about either her or her pokemon. not that sidney would recognize it. not that sidney would even stay to hear her out. he had his back to her as soon as he said what he wanted to, and with the pace he kept he was far enough away to ignore anything she had to say in response.
She can only smile and watch as he departs-- hell, she'll even step out of the way for him. "Mhm, okay, yeah, byyeee!" She doesn't bother going after him, she'd had her fill and right now she was in the middle of a route without any viable pokemon. Lena takes a deep breath, calms herself down, and admires the full pokeballs at her waist. Quite admirable work, for babies. She's proud of herself, even if that stranger failed to see anything other than his own failures.
She rolls out her shoulders, stretches her legs, and makes a straight sprint back to the Jubilife pokemon center. Fuck this route. Sidney's face is etched into her memory now, either as someone she has to watch out for, or as someone to content down the road. The idea of having an even more intense battle gives her goosebumps-- she hadn't even scratched the surface of her potential. More motivated than ever, Lena feels her heart beat fast as adrenaline fuels her back to town.
