major news alert!
witness reports from all over the region has been flooding in about strange happenings at the three lakes. what's more perplexing is that these occurrences seem to be happening spontaneously at the lakes. just moments ago, a burst of light erupted at the locations and residents in the vicinity have reported that the lake-side pokemon have turned aggressive and attack on sight.
However, there have been rumours and sightings of the legendary lake trio which has had trainers flocking in from all over the region.
When his home was Kanto he had heard rumors of organizations, gangs and self proclaimed messengers of change. Reporters were quick to name some in involvements of crimes, scandals; acts of terrorism varying in degree, but he had never seen it up close. Even in Johto Ame hadn’t seen much of anything remotely close to this. What once was a quaint town now turned to ash, long since subdued by the authorities who have passed to other troubles plaguing the region. Amidst broken lines of caution tape, burnt wood and collapsed structures he stands, careful footing inching himself deeper into the mess. He doesn’t do much but watch, staring at what is now left of Floaroma, taking in the sights as they are.
There is no feeling of sadness, just barely comprehensible hints of sympathy suppressed by a flood of nostalgia. To some degree Ame had always been prone to such a thing; a sense of need to be where he felt most comfortable. He ignored those feelings for some time, traveled away to see the world albeit knowing where he’d end up when the time came; but every so often he found things that reminded him of home. Strangely enough this was such a place. While not as grand as the notable landmark of his town Ame couldn’t help but chuckle at the thought that every region needed some sense of tragedy. Surely Sinnoh already had its share but now there was something else to be written in the books.
with the last message sent, emmett clicked his phone off and sighed. he couldn't wait to hear what they had to say when they saw his message. the lack of information and findings in floaroma was disappointing to say the least. he had nothing to give or show and he was going to hear a mouthful when he returned. it wasn't his fault. whatever residents that still lived here were long gone and looters had cleaned the place dry. anything that he could find was common news or already in a report.
"e, let's go." the swablu was currently nestled on a beam of a house, watching her trainer below. the pokemon had been helping him scout for anything that stood out and had also come back empty-handed. she cooed down at him before taking off into the air, emmett following closely behind. he was done with floaroma town. he didn't understand why anyone would come here after what happened to it. and it's not like the police were stopping them from coming. it was stupidly becoming a tourist attraction at this point with the way everyone was coming to see what galatic had done.
a song from above made him look up and see that his swablu had caught sight of something. with a sharp dive, the bird flew down before circling above the head of a man standing nearby. emmett knew before the swablu even moved what was about to happen. "e!" with a happy coo, the pokemon flew down and made herself home on the man's head. a groan escaped him as he stared at the pokemon flapping her cloud wings against the man's head. why, when they were about to leave, that she decided to do this?
he walked forward and glared at his pokemon who was currently very happy in her spot. "sorry." he wasn't. he didn't care. he did care to get out of this place. "i don't know what's wrong with her. i'm pretty sure she wants to eat your graduation cap tassel."
His arrival to Floaroma had been planned for some time now after reading an article vaguely detailing the investigations current state, and only when a week had passed did Ame finally make his way here. Now he was prolonging what he once thought would be a few minute stay, having assumed prior that there would be nothing left to keep his interested. He dared not enter whatever homes still stood, broken windows from what Ame could only assume was from the fire or visitors wishing to take more than the scenery. The last thing he needed would be to be caught in an unfavorable situation, red handed in an act he wasn’t trying to commit; thrown into some unwholesome cell in a region he had yet to even see for duration of his trip.
It’s the song Ame hears first, an odd contrast to the near silence he’d been surrounded with during the entirety of his visit. He doesn’t get a chance to turn around nor look above before he feels the soft pressure on his head. There’s a quick moment where he just barely jumps, having been warned of something by the song but not having taken the time to think whatever it was would land on him. It’s more funny than anything to think something would fly to him to perk than the thousands of other options around. “Why, hello there.” he starts, voice soft as he raises his hand towards the Swablu, keeping mind to the distance of his finger from the Pokemon to avoid scaring it away.
Oh. His initial thoughts to the voice leave as quickly as they come, forgotten the moment he turns enough to see the man walking towards him. His eyes narrow at the comment spoken at his expense but his lips turn into a small grin. Truth be told, he hadn’t worn one of those in years; but that bit of unneeded information was left in the back of his mind, hidden behind a soft laugh. “It’s a headband actually, but by the look on your face I don’t think you care either way.” he says, “I take it she’s yours than. Shame, I would have loved to take her home with me.”
“I have to say, it’s strange. I thought I was alone.” he begins, slowly returning his arm to his side. “You wouldn’t happen to be one of those looters the news have been talking about, would you? You seem pretty… suspicious.” He lets the final word run down his tongue, keeping eye contact as he smiles -- too innocent to be genuine with a tone that doesn’t fit the comments good-samaritan act -- because all Ame wants is to see if there’s a hint of hesitation in the boys answer.
the swablu was perfectly content sitting on the man's head. emmett could have rolled his eyes if he wasn't too busy staring at the man's accessory that the bird was ruffling with her feathers. the other was right. he could have cared less what it was. but he couldn't help but wonder where he had seen such a thing before. they looked strangely familiar but he couldn't think of where. it wasn't important either way. "you can if you want. she looks happy in your hair." emmett shrugged before holding out his arm for the bird to return. the flying type gave a soft coo towards the stranger before flying back to her trainer. with a flash of red light, the pokemon was recalled to her pokeball. most of his pokemon were way too affectionate for him and if the man wanted her, he was willing to give her to someone who wouldn't mind her perching on their head.
as the other slowly began to talk, emmett could only narrow his eyes at the suspicious tone. the smile on his face and the innocent question was fake as he tried to figure out what emmett was doing out here. he was already asking too many questions that clearly wasn't any of his business. but he couldn't blame him. if he were anyone else, he would find himself suspicious too. however, that didn't mean he wasn't slightly annoyed by it. "i could say the same for you." emmett began as he stared right back into the other's eyes, unafraid even if he could tell something was up. "you look just as suspicious as me. and if i was a looter, i wouldn't tell you." did he really think he would tell him that information? did he think that if he just asked anyone that, they would answer truthfully? idiot. "what are you, a cop?"
While Ame would have prefered the Swablu to be in his arms rather than his head, having to deal with strained movement to keep the bird comfortable was well worth it. In the short amount of time he had taken quite a liking to the Pokemon, and -- when the man makes the comment of allowing her to be his -- there’s a wave of disappointment that comes with watching him recall her back. He holds any comments back, listening to what the other has to say; and, only when Ame realizes the boy won’t avert his eyes, does his smile get softer. The accusations he had given towards the stranger was brought right back, amidst quick-witted answers and questions. Only when the others voice falls silent does his expression change. Eyes wider, dancing in sarcasm as he lets out a small, painfully obvious, fake gasp. “Me? Suspicious? The man with some ‘graduation cap tassel’? Why, that just doesn’t make sense at all.” he starts, doing his best to sound as obnoxiously appalled as he can muster without laughing at himself, “and here I thought that maybe instead of a looter you were some junior detective trying to solve the case of: who set this town on fire.”
He lets his expression return to normal, a small laugh towards what was probably such an idiotic display; and his shoulders drop, allowing the red flags to return with his still unquenched curiosity. “Denying things like that than asking a total stranger if he’s a cop… you’re making it seem like you’re hiding something.” None of this was his business; but sadly he was the type to push buttons and ask questions even when all else told him not to. “Should I be a cop? I guess, technically, I could always make a citizen's arrest. That sounds like it’d be fun.”
emmett could have killed his swablu for dragging him into this. it was moreso his fault for not calling her back the moment they were done here. she was still new to his team and had yet to learn what he expected of her to do. she was an affectionate pokemon to say the least. he didn't really mind her; it's just when she dragged him into situations with other people that he had to fight not to be annoyed.
the urge to roll his eyes was strong with the way this conversation was heading. the man's fake tone and mocking ways was starting to irk him. he was tempted to walk away at this point and leave him to make his own accusations and assumptions about why he was here. but observing the man's demeanor and attitude about him, he was almost certain that he would be followed if only to irritate him more. great. "why would i need to play detective here when the cops are clearly doing such a good job." he gestured to the lack of police patrolling the area and the police tape around the perimeter that anyone could pass. "yeah they're doing a great job catching galatic."
"and they still do citizen's arrests? you look too young to be a sixty year old man trying to stop kids from taking over his neighborhood." emmett crossed his arms over his chest and gave a hard look at the other. he didn't understand what the man wanted or why he was even bothered to know. everyone else here kept to their own business. of course the pokemon had to run into the one person in the town that couldn't stop asking questions. "i question your idea of fun if arresting people is your thing. got a fetish or something?"
As the man gestured to the surrounding area, completely void of law enforcement and warnings to keep people -- such as himself -- away, Ame kept his smile in place as he looked around to where the others hands lead his eyes. When he had first heard of what took place Ame had thought his little detour to see what was left would be nothing but blocked streets and cop cars. Men in uniform telling him to step back and avoid answering any questions he might dare to ask. But, he was wrong. He hadn’t thought he’d end up getting this close, let alone conversing with a stranger in the middle of the burned down remains. “Very true, Sinnoh is becoming quite the role model region. I’ll have to make sure to keep some of these things in mind. Maybe I can make Johto great again with some borrowed tips.” he states, “but who knows, you still could be a detective. Especially since you’ve made it so clear that you’re not a looter. Plus, you have that type of look… like, a poor newbie cop who's looking for a break. Or a coffee boy who's tired of delivering lunch to his co-workers.”
He keeps his expression soft, twisting the boys comment as a compliment before focusing on the sarcastic question that comes soon after. That was his secret to keep and, while he was sure the man didn’t want to hear any sort of truthful answer, Ame wasn’t going to let an opportunity pass to have some fun. “A little use of restraints never hurt anyone. I think it helps to set the mood, don’t you?” He takes a small step forward, tilts his head just barely to the side, and smiles. “Or is that type of foreplay not your thing? Because honestly, you seem like the type of person who could get into something like that.”
emmett almost laughed when he said he could be a newbie cop. it was quite the opposite in fact. he didn't have a problem with cops but that didn't mean he didn't like it. being on the wrong side of the law made one avoid them as much as possible. "that's funny since i was a looter three seconds ago." he was being honest; it was funny that the man even hinted that he looked like a cop. from what he's heard from others, he looked unapproachable most of the time.
he knew that the other was mocking him. it was obvious with the way he was smiling and teasing him with barely hidden insults and jabs. but he kept his expression flat and tried not to let the words get to him. it's not as if he was walking away from him to let the conversation end or wasn't returning the jabs. instead he was standing here next to him, going back and forth like he was still in school. maybe the graduation tassel was appropriate since they couldn't act their age.
while his expression had been flat for most of the encounter, it all changed when the man gave him a little too much information than he wanted. a look of disgust was flashed as the other stepped forward with a smile, hinting at something that he didn't want to be apart of. "i can't say that i am." he said slowly and narrowed his eyes, looking away to stare at anything else. "but thanks for the disturbing mental image. i'll be sure to remember it when i feel like killing myself." he would rather face anything else at this point.
as if someone had heard his wish, a movement caught his eyes from in the distance. "oh shit." was the only thing he mumbled as the figure of a cop came out from behind a building. emmett felt like someone was playing an elaborate joke on him with the way his luck was going so far. he walked forward and grabbed the man by his arm, glaring at him if he said any snide remark. "you're coming with me. shut up for a minute, will you?" with that he dragged the other to one of the abandoned buildings to hide.
His shoulders lift, shrugging at the others comment on how he was called a looter seconds ago. Maybe he was switching it up a little too much, but honestly the man before him was a total stranger, which meant Ame could view him however he wanted until told otherwise. So, with whoever this guy was (looter or otherwise) not having told him his name yet, Ame would have to fill in the blanks as he saw fit. As he watches the man's eyes narrow in his direction he laughs, a quick mocking chuckle at the reaction he receives. Honestly, he’s surprised the other hasn’t up and left by now.
He keeps his head tilted, trying to catch sight of the others gaze when it lowers to something else in the area. “Lost your confidence? You were holding your ground so well.” There’s a momentary urge to step closer; however before he does he restrains himself, keeping in mind he’s only just met the other a few minutes ago. “Don’t be so dramatic,” he starts, “you might even find yourself remembering that image and choosing to stay alive.” He’s about to talk again when the other walks forward, grabbing his arm and pulling him in the direction of one of the abandoned buildings. It takes him off guard, confused by the sudden turn of events; and, while Ame doesn’t try to resist, he’s not exactly sure if he’s a fan of what this might mean.
Once they enter the building he coughs, clearing his throat to signal the other to give him his attention, if only for a few seconds. “Uh, so … I’m getting a lot of mix signals from you.” he says, staring at the other, “I don’t know if you took what I was saying as an invitation that I’m down for anything anywhere but, you know... I’m sorta opposed to this. I don’t even know your name and this place seems sorta… disgusting. You’re cute, but...” His voice trails to silence, giving the other the benefit of the doubt that he’d be able to follow along without him having to hold his hand.
emmett had to fight down the temptation to release the man's arm and let him deal with the officer himself. if he was lucky, he could escape somewhere else while the man got caught and talked his way out of an arrest. maybe then that the other could deal with his fetish for handcuffs and leave him out of it. but instead here he was, dragging the other into an empty house to escape from sight. his luck was turning into shit each second he spent in this godforsaken town.
dust and ash flew into the air around them as he dragged them further into the front room before stopping. his arm rose to cover his nose and mouth as he walked back to peek and see if the cop had seen them. he heard what the other was saying and rolled his eyes in exasperation. instead of responding right away, he watched as the officer was speaking on his radio and looking in the direction in which they disappeared. emmett let out a curse.
"don't flatter yourself." he mumbled as he walked back to where the other was standing. if they were lucky, the police wouldn't investigate the house. but with the way his luck was going now... emmett crouched down on the floor behind a charred couch and motioned for the other to follow. if he was too slow, he would grab the other and drag him down to the floor. "i don't want any of what you're offering. the only reason i brought you with me is so you wouldn't run your mouth." he glanced to stare at the other with a barely concealed glare that clearly said to shut up. "obviously i was wrong."
His hands find the front of his shirt, dusting away the flakes of ash that float through the air before stopping completely after he realizes it’s doing more harm than good. Instead he keeps his attention on swiping away whatever might fall close his face, mouth shut after he speaks to avoid breathing in any more of the air than necessary. He watches the other move away from him, slightly interested in whats caught his attention outside; but he stays still where he was left, figuring one way or another he’ll find out the answer. When the boy returns Ame stares, raising a brow and gesturing to whatever may be going on; only to stare blankly as he’s motioned to crouch down beside the other.
It takes a second for him to comprehend what he’s told to do, another second to contemplate whether he wants to comply or not; and before he choose himself he feels himself tugged down without warning. His eyes narrow, glaring for a second as he steadies himself in his new position. “You know, for someone who isn’t doing anything wrong, you’re doing a lot of hiding.” he states, staring back to see the glare being given to him. For a moment he’s about to stand up, take his chances with whatever had them hiding knowing full well he did nothing wrong; than in another he’s about to tell the man to stop glaring at him.
But, by the end of it, Ame relaxes, expression softening despite the look that greeted him. If he was going to be stuck in some abandoned building full of ash than he was going to have some fun. “You could prove yourself right and make me shut up,” he starts, “the more I look at you the more I’m starting to rethink my previous statement. I’ll be gentle.” One of two things can happen, he thinks. One, being this man finally chooses to just punch him in the face. Or two: he’d get to see the man stand up and walk right out of the building to take whatever consequences faced him outside.
emmett was about ready to jump out of the house and face the cop himself, consequences be damned. even though he had told the other to be silent, the man still was making snide comments and doing a little too much talking for someone who was supposed to be hiding. his eyes narrowed as he peaked over the couch to see if the officer was nearby. seeing nothing at the moment, he crouched back down and turned to stare at the other, an eyebrow raised in response to his statement. “i told you i wasn’t a looter. that doesn’t mean i’m not hiding anything.”
he rested against the back of the couch causing dust to fly up around them. they were going to catch something in this godforsaken place if they stayed here any longer. there was too much dust and ash in the air for it to be healthy to stay here longer than needed. he didn’t even want to think about what he was breathing in. he was hoping the officer decided he saw nothing and moved on to another area. his eyes stared ahead at a small side table that had survived being burned into ash. on it was a frame with the picture destroyed inside. he wondered if the family had managed to get out of the house before the fire spread too much. knowing his luck, he could be breathing in their dead remains.
it was with the man’s next statement that emmett broke out of his morbid thoughts and glanced to the side at the other. it was fairly obvious that he was being hit on. while he would have normally done what he always did—ignored it and walked away, he didn’t have that luxury currently. and something about the other was pushing his buttons more and more. “i could punch you in your fucking mouth to make you shut up. would that work for you? i promise i won’t be gentle.” his hand tightened into a fist as he turned to glare at the other, his gaze fierce and ready to fight if the other said one more mocking comment.
it was then he heard a creak and a voice coming from outside. emmett paused and sat back, staring straight at the other in a gaze that clearly told him to be quiet. the officer was loud, talking on his radio about how he thought he saw something come nearby. he didn’t want to deal with a police officer right now and if it was a ranger, he was fucked. his movements were quiet as he leaned closer to the couch, still staring at the other if he attempted to do something dumb to give them away.
